Hi! I’m new here. I have an 8 y/o 64 lb lab mix who was diagnosed with Cushings in May. He was started on 60mg trilostane as per the reccomended mg/lb dosage. The next month’s ACTH tests still came back high so he was prescribed 120mg. The following month (last week) he still tested extremely high and now he’s on 120 mg in the morning and 60 mg at night.

Has anyone else experienced such high dosage?? I’m just really concerned about it not working and what we will have to do from here. Obviously the costs are concerning as well. I’m hoping someone can console me because this has been the most stress I have ever experienced in life.

Hi and welcome to you and your boy!

180 mg does sound like an extremely high dose for your boy, is he getting his Trilostane with a meal so that is properly absorbed? And those ACTH stimulation monitoring tests, are they being performed 4-6 hours post Trilostane? It would help us a great deal if you would post his ACTH stimulation monitoring tests results, thank you!

Could you share more about your boy's health history such as the test/s that were used to diagnose his Cushing's? Also could you post all test results here for us and please include the reference ranges and reporting units, regarding a Chemistry/CBC blood panel you need to only post those values that are abnormal...thanks! What symptoms was your boy displaying that led you or the vet to test for Cushing's in the first place? Does your furbaby have any underlying health issues? Besides the Trilostane is he taking any other medications/supplements/herbs? Is his urine diluted and was an urinalysis and/or culture done? Gosh, I'm sorry for all those questions but the more we know about your sweet boy the better our feedback can be, ok?

Please know we will help in any way we can and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask them. Sending you some huge calming hugs ~ Lori
