I am new to this group. Thank you for the add.
My beagle, Maxx (age 9), has cushings gone on now 2 years diagnosed, probably 3-4 overall. We have been on vetoryl but the price was such a hindrance. I have been looking for cheaper options to control his symptoms. My biggest challenge are the growth that have happened, he had grown so many and some are quite big and bother him. Even when we were on the vetoryl his growths continued to grow in size and number. Just looking for some information so I can try to make us both more comfortable.

Hi BeagleMaxxMomm :) I am not sure where you are located but you can get trilostane (which is the main ingredient in Vetoryl), at compounding pharmacies and it is so much cheaper than Vetoryl. I buy 100 trilostane capsules at a time so I get an even better deal since I buy so many. I am in Australia so we generally have to use a vet recommended pharmacy but if you are in the US then Diamondback has a great reputation and fantastic prices, and you can just ring or email them for a quote.

Hello, and welcome to both you and Maxx! You'll see that I've moved your post to create a thread that's your very own -- this way, it'll be easier for our members to reply to you directly.
I'm so glad that Laura has had the chance to respond and to give you the info about compounded trilostane. In addition, we'd like to be able to offer more thoughts and suggestions, but it'll help us if we can learn more about Maxx. Can you tell us about his overall health history, the symptoms and testing that led to the Cushing's diagnosis, and also more about his growths?
Thanks so much, in advance, for any and all additional info. And once again, welcome!

Hi and welcome to you and Max! :)
You might look into Lysodren. It is less expensive to use 1) because the dog takes fewer pills and 2) typically less testing is required with Lyso VS Vetoryl. Other options are some Chinese herbal formulas that some holistic vets use. If this is something you are interested in, contact a holistic vet - don't try to do it on your own because herbs are drugs in their own right and have side effects, etc. So always use them with the same respect you would pharmaceutical drugs. :) Look for a vet with training in TCM, Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Older dogs often get what are lipomas, or fatty tumors/growths. Most of the time they aren't an issue and don't require any treatment but sometimes they pop up in areas that can interfere with gait, etc. Here is a link that shows a pic of a lipoma. My Squirt had then all over and they never posed a problem for her that I recall.

Glad you found us and look forward to learning more about Max!
