Hi, Everyone.
I have been off the list for awhile. My beloved Icy died a year ago. She had atypical Cushings. Her picture is above. My beautiful girl!
Last Friday, Jamison, my eight year old rough collie, was knocked over by a deer. His right front and back legs were hurt. We went to the vet who examed him, took X-rays, did bloodwork, and prescribed meds.
Just got the bloodwork and panicked. His ALP is 182 (5-160); his ALT is 210 (18-121); his AST is 55 (16-55) and CREATIN KINASE is 256 (10-200). All other results are normal. Could this indicate Cushings? He drinks and urinates normally, has a full beautiful coat, has a slender waist. He does pant some.
The vet is supposed to call and interprets the results. I thought you could help. You all always did.
Thanks.

Hi Wrighton and welcome back.

I don't believe you have anything to be concerned about and suspect your vet will tell you the same thing. The liver enzyme elevations are quite mild and the CK is likely elevated due to muscle injury caused by the deer. It could also be that the specimen was hemolized. Can you look at your paperwork and see if there is any mention of hemolysis? Honestly, I don't think your vet is going to be overly concerned nor do I believe s/he will suspect cushing's. I'm not a vet but for what it's worth, in the absence of any symptoms typically associated with cushing's, these lab abnormalities certainly do not raise red flags for cushing's. I do hope you will update us after your discussion with your vet.

Thanks so much for the encouraging word. After we lost our Icy, Jamison became very depressed. My daughter's Yorkie came while she was traveling for work. It sure helped Jamison until she went home, so for Christmas we got him a senior Yorkie named Spenser. A week later, Spenser was having bladder surgery. He did well. In March we found quite by accident another senior Yorkie named Max, a week later, Max had double luxating patella surgery. Then Audrey returned! Jamison loves them, but it has been a lot. Then the deer episode, then the raised liver....... I just sat and cried.

The newest vet in the practice hasn't called about the results. Will let you know when. (If?) she does. I'm not impressed so far.

Thanks again.

Hi Gail, I just wanted to post to express my condolences for your loss of Icy and thank you!! for adopting not one but TWO senior pups. You've already been through so much with them, your concern and emotions are understandable. I hope your vet gets back to you soon and alleviates your concerns.

Many hugs,
Shana

Hi Gail!

Good to hear from you again but sorry it is with such worries for Jamison. I trust Glynda's assessments so take a deep breath and try to relax. I'm willing to bet her comments are spot on! ;)

I do remember your sweet Icy and how much she taught us all about Atypical Cushing's. :)

Hugs,
Leslie

Guess I just panicked too quickly. The vet said that the results were not significantly raised enough to warrant further testing. Jamison is still limping and on Tramadol twice a day.

After spending over $500 in two days ( Jami is worth any amount) and waiting all day for the new vet in the practice to call and explain the results, she had a vet tech deliver the above conclusion. I asked if Marin might help Jami...... she never heard of it. Icy was on it when her liver numbers first went off and I read everything I could find about it while I waited the seven hours yesterday, to see if Jami would benefit from it.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your kindness. Icy was a treasure and still is. She served 14 years as a therapy dog and 15 years as a beloved pet. We were blessed by her. Memories of her make her blessings to us continue.

Hi All.
You may remember my beloved Icy, a tri collie, who had atypical Cushing. Then we adopted a senior Yorkie last December. His blood work caused the vet to do a bile acid test, which showed very high values, too. She believed that the next would be testing for Cushings, but after years of practice decided that an ultrasound should be done. It was and showed nothing. She was sure it missed something and did X-rays. His bladder was full of bladder stones. She did emergency surgery because of their location. Well, he did well. Stones were sent to be analyzed. All other liver values came back to normal and have been fine since then

Seven weeks ago my collie, Jamison, a therapy dog and real love was t-boned by a deer. Six weeks ago he had an arthrodesis of his right foot because of an hyper extension of his right corpus. The blood work before surgery done by an orthopedic surgery was slightly off, especially some slightly high liver values. Four weeks post surgery he started freezing , sort of paralyzed on his right side for short periods. Of course, back to hospital where he had had cast and bandage changes every two weeks. The specialist ordered more blood work before proceeding and prescribing more meds. He became alarmed and consulted with the internal medicine specialist. That was a week ago. The Internist, the same one would took care of Icy till her death, said he wanted an ultrasound ASAP . He would not allow any meds to be given by surgeon until it was done. ThatÂ’s today. Cushings (Jami drinks a lot, ugh), bladder stones, etc. I so hope we are back down the Cushings road. Not sure why Cushings was top on his list. I am scared to death.

Thanks for listening.

Oh my gosh, what a horrible ordeal. What did the tests show?
