Hi,
My boxer Aurora was diagnosed with cushings last year. She has been on Trilostane medication with slight increases in dosage over this years time. She continues to gain weight at a steady rate. In the last 2 yrs she has gained close to 20 pounds. She also continues to have bladder issues but only during the night hours. She has a doggie door and uses it w/o issues during the day. My vet is thinking she may have some thyroid issues now as well with the continued weight gain. Anyone else out there with a boxer or any other doggie with these issues?

Hi and welcome to you and Aurora! :)

To get us started it would really really help if you could get copies of the latest ACTH Aurora has had done and post those number here. On the ACTH there will be 2, or maybe 3 if you live in Canada, number we need to see - a pre and post. Also, how much does Aurora weigh now? What is the dose of Trilo she is taking and is it once or twice a day?

I would also want some lab work done that shows the function of the organs - thyroid and pancreas in particular. If those seem to be ok AND things are correct with her treatment, then the next thing I would look at would be diabetes insipidus. It is a rare form of diabetes that has nothing to do with blood sugar but rather with how the body processes water. Excess peeing and drinking are hallmark signs of DI as well as Cushing's, diabetes (regular), thyroid problem, and some other conditions. But it seems that when one part of the endocrine system gets out of whack other in that system like to follow suit! So it is always wise to check them all out when things are out of balance...like the peeing with Aurora. ;)

So if you can get those numbers from the ACTH for us and tell us about her weight and treatment with Trilo that will get us off to a good start!

I'm glad you found us and look forward to learning more as time passes. You deserve a huge pat on the back for dealing with this on your own for so long...and so well.:cool::cool:

Hugs,

Welcome to you and Aurora from me, too! Have you had thyroid testing done yet, or is that what your vet is suggesting? I look forward to seeing those ACTH test results, as well as any additional information you can provide.
