Hi there my name is Aaron. Just found the site today. Great info. I have a question about medication for my dog Lilly. Diagnosed last summer and responded well to Vetoryl 120 mg. They re-tested her a month or so later and found that her dose was high. Long story short, she went down to 30mg and became symptomatic again. I have her back on 60mg but is still symptomatic. Any ideas if she is still symptomatic on the lower dose? She weighs 98 pounds or so.

Hi Aaron and welcome to you and Lilly! :)
What prompted the testing for Cushing's in the first place? What signs were you seeing at that time? Could you tell us what test(s) were done to diagnose the Cushing's in your baby? And please post the actual test results from those tests - including the little letters and normal ranges, along with any notes. This info will help us provide more meaningful feedback.
Please post all ACTHs she has had since starting the Vetoryl, too, please. We would like to see the progression...that can often tell a story of it's own.
The recommended starting dose for a dog Lilly's size would be around 98mg (1mg per lb)...so 120 was too much and 30, as well as 60, is too low. So the return of signs is not surprising on that dose. Since Vetoryl, the brand name, does not come in a dose that size (98mg) you could use 3 30mg capsules to achieve 90mg. OR you can have the 98mg compounded if you live in the US. A great compounding pharmacy is Diamondback Drugs out of Arizona. Many us here use them, including me...but we are a Lysodren house, not Vetoryl. ;)
I'm glad you found us and look forward to learning more as time passes.

Hello and welcome from me too. Glad you found us.
Leslie is spot on with what she said about where to start for dosage, 1mg/1lb.
Do you have the results of the ACTH test? So you know what her results where?
