Hi, My Amie Doo has been diagnosed with Cushings and has been on Vetoryl for less than a week, While we are waiting to see how she responds (which I understand might take 2 weeks or so). How can I help her with her hunger...she is hungry 24/7 and has started chewing on papers and boxes that she can get ahold of. It seems that I cannot feed her enough. I have split her dog food up into 3 meals and she has a couple of snacks, but I don't want to overfeed her...what do you suggest. I was wondering if I could feed her diet dog food so she can have more bulk with fewer calories...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (BTW she has a younger brother who does not have Cushings and I am trying to help him not overeat as he has a tendency to do so)

Hi and welcome to you and Amie Doo, Ahh such cute name!!!!
I have manually approved your membership so now all your posts will be seen right away. Also, please just disregard the validation email that was sent to you from k9cushings.
Oh that insatiable appetite  A suggestion I have is to give her more fiber such as carrots and frozen green beans or any vegetable that she may eat, you can also try oatmeal or brown rice.
With our new members we ask a lot of questions, this is not because we are nosy, instead, it allows us to provide you with our best possible feedback. So here are some questions that I have
Could you get copies of all tests that were done on your girl and post any abnormalities that are listed? With respect to the blood chemistry and complete blood count (CBC), you need only post the highs and lows and please include the normal reference ranges. What test/s were done that diagnosed the Cushing's and could you post those results? What symptoms did your girl display that led to the testing for Cushing's? Was she diagnosed with the pituitary or adrenal form of Cushing's? How much does she weigh? And what dose of Vetoryl is she taking? Does Amie Doo have any underlying illness that she is taking medication for? And if so, what is it and what is the medication? Is she taking any supplements, medications or herbs?
Well that's enough questions from me ;) I am sorry for the circumstances that brought you here but sure glad you found us. Please know you are not alone of this journey as we are walking right beside you and will help in any way we can.

Hi! Welcome to you and sweet Amie Doo! :)
Lori has already got you off to a great start so I mainly just wanted to welcome you and your baby to K9C. I did want you to know that the hunger will usually reduce as the cortisol level is lowered. Some pups have us so well trained by that point, tho, they continue the "hunger game" in order to get those goodies! :p But most do lose that all-consuming drive to eat as the cortisol lowers. When you share those ACTH results with us we can help offer more meaningful feedback.
We are glad to have you and Amie Doo with us. You are no longer alone on this journey. Never hesitate to ask questions and we will do our best to help you along.
Hugs,

Hello and welcome from me too.
I agree with the others, veggies would be a good filler until her cortisol is under control.
What dose is she on of vetroyl and how much does she weigh? It should be 1mg/1lb to start with and go from there based on follow up ACTH test to see how she is reacting.

Hi--I join others in welcoming you. Curious what breed Amie Doo is as well as the history behind her name ... My Abbie's hunger did abate once we found the right dose to bring down her cortisol but every dog is different.

I read your post and wonder how Amie Doo is doing now? Has the hunger abated a bit? Have you found things she (?) will eat that are low calorie? Hope all is well and wondering about Amie and the details of her situation. Please let us know when you have a chance.
