My Labrador is nearly 10 years old. We took him to the vet with severe sickness and diohrrea. The vet looked at his belly and seen it was abnormal in size like a pot belly... the vet drew a needle and drawn blood from his abdomen.
The next day he was in for an urgent ultra sound scan which revealed no cancer but an enlarged liver. The vet then kept an eye on him for a number of days and done numerous blood tests which revealed it could be atypical cushens disease.
The vet has been jabbing my dog with needles and anti sickness drugs for over a month and as a working family who have to pay co insurance it's killing us finically.
The vet says he wants to do one more blood test to confirm its atypical cushens disease. However my dog is having major bouts of sickness and explosive diohrrea... he is drinking allot of water and his appetite is on and off. When he lies on his belly he also growns...
After throwing nearly £2.000 at his diagnosis the vet said if it's not atypical cushens the. He doesn't know what it is?
We love our dog but as a working family in the uk you get no discount unless you're on state benefit.
I wanted to ask if the sickness and diahorrea is normal for atypical cushens? How would we treat it? Should the vet have done all these tests first? Is the vet being honest?
We're at a stage were the family are tired, upset and frustrated that our Lovely lab is suffering so much...
What would you advise next?
Your guidance and support is greatly appreciated.
