Hello
All!

I wanted to know if anyone else has had problems with back leg weakness in their dogs?
My poor 3-legged dog got up yesterday she could barely walk and when she did she looked like a drunk stumbling around.
She only has 1 front leg, so she really needs the back 2 legs for good support.
Is back leg weakness in Cushing's dogs common?
My poor 3-legged girl is still having problems today.
Her last ACTH test was 4/27/16.
Does she need another ACTH done to see if her meds need adjusted again? I hate to have her tested and they tell me her numbers are fine and a change in meds won't help her back leg weakness.

I am at a loss as what to do. My girl is 12.5 yrs old and also suffers from congestive heart failure, which is helped with meds also.
The vet advised me her heart will be her downfall but I hate to think this is the end, just because she can't walk. She is still alert, wanting to growl at the mailman for fun, snuggle and kiss, eating her food and still begging for a bite of what I eat :)

Hi and welcome to you and your girl!

OMGoodness I am sorry your sweet girl is going through so much :( Unfortunately rear leg weakness is very common in dogs with Cushing's. How long has she been on treatment? Is she being treated with Vetoryl/Trilostane, and if so, what is her dose?

Since her last ACTH stim test was done in April she most definitely needs to have her cortisol checked along with her electrolytes. If her cortisol has dropped too low this may cause them to have the trouble your girl is experiencing. Is she vomiting and/or does she have diarrhea? Is her appetite and drinking normal?

I'm sorry this post is so short (I'm at work ) but I'm sure the others will be by to welcome you too.

Hugs, Lori

Hello and welcome to the forum.

As Lori mentioned hind leg weakness is common with cushings.
You could also look into joint supplements. Perhaps some pain is also causing the problem, as when their cortisol comes down, then other things like pain in joints can be uncovered. Adequan shots might be an option, or another type of pain medication.
Speak with your vet as to what might be appropriate for your furbaby.

Did they tell you what her current ACTH numbers are? or what they were on the last test I should say?

Hi Again, (We met in a Facebook group) :)

As mentioned, until a new ACTH test is run you're not going to find out what the next step should be. Until then answering the questions above
could help (Weight, Medication, Dosage, Last ACTH Results until you get new ones, etc.). You've come to the right place for advice.

Keep us posted,
