My dog is showing symptoms of voracious appetite, drinking over 600 ml per day, urinating frequently.:o

Tests started.
Water deprivation test next.:(

Reading the stories is treatment/ management the best decision?

I just want her to be happy and have quality of life.

Hello I have manually approved your post so that members may start responding to you.

Welcome to the forum.

What test has been performed for cushings? Usually an ACTH and/or LDDS is done to determine cushings.

Was there any abnormal values on blood and urine tests? If so do you know what values where off and what they are?

Was a UTI, thyroid, diabetes all ruled out? Those are a couple that can have the same symptoms as cushings.

Treatment depends on many things, such as what results come back on the cushings tests and what symptoms are like. Treatment can give a better quality of life for her and for you.
The good thing is that cushings is a disease that gives you time normally to make sure of the diagnosis and research treatment options.

We look forward to hearing more about your furbaby

Thanks for letting me join.
I am interested in everyone's personal experiences with their dogs and the disease.

Have found some info about lab rats deprived of linoleic acid (omega 6) who drank lots of water. When this was added to their diet the stopped drinking so much.

My main question I guess is Would you treat your dog with the drugs and have constant testing or just try to maintain quality of life?
Thanks

Welcome,

Please post any test results (LDDS, ACTH, Ultrasound / Imaging) and abnormal blood / urine results including the normal ranges.

Water deprivation test next

A dog with Cushings doesn't pee more because they drink more. They drink more because they pee more. I would want to rule out Cushings before I withheld water.

I would treat my dog with drugs and have the required tests to maintain quality of life.

Good Luck - I hope you get a diagnosis soon.

Hi and welcome to you and your pup! I am curious why your vet would be recommending a water deprivation test. This test has been used to diagnose diabetes insipidus but the majority of experts no longer recommend this test as it causes a great deal of stress for the dog.
