I am new today to this forum and am very grateful there is one out there. Our 9 year old Chihuahua, Izzy, has been on Trilostane for the past 4 months and is now having either loose stools or diarrhea along with skin dryness and more hair loss. She has been on various antibiotics for the loose stools and skin bacterial infections. Is there a good dog food she should be on to help control this? Our vet just switched her to Hills Science Diet for Sensitive Stomach and Skin (dry). She hates it but will eat it eventually if we "coat" it with canned food. She was on Blue Buffalo high protein, no grains (dry and wet) because she was not eating and needed some calories in her. Because of her stool issue, our vet switched her. I've been researching the "raw" diets and am interested in your thoughts to the freeze dried raw food (or any other kind of food). I trust my vet, but my gut is telling me our little girl needs a different food. Any suggestions would be grately appreciated. Oh, she also has elevated liver enzymes (use to be on Science Diet I/D Low Fat before switched to Blue Buffalo). I'm not sure what other info you need from me, so I will wait to hear back from you. Thank you SO much for any suggestions!

Hi and welcome to you and Izzy!

How long ago was the last ACTH and what were the results? That is the first thing we need to know before addressing diet since diarrhea is one of the signs of the coritsol dropping too low. How is her appetite now....was the change in the appetite after the change to the Hills or had it started before the change? Any nausea or vomiting? How is her energy level - any changes there?

Until the diarrhea is cleared up, I would stop the Vetoryl if Izzy were my baby. That is one of the good things about this drug - it can be stopped and restarted easily.

I'm glad you found us and look forward to hearing more very soon!
Hugs,
Leslie and the gang

I agree with Leslie, the Trilostane should be withheld until the diarrhea stops.

Getting those ACTH results along with any abnormal findings from the CBC/chemistry blood panel and posting them here (with the normal ranges) would help us a lot.

Sorry for the circumstances that brought you here but sure glad you found us and we will help in any way we can.

Hugs, Lori
