View Full Version : Perdue University Study on Dog Longevity
This is a long you tube presentation, but if you want to skip to the 11:40 minute it gets good. Cancer is the biggest cause of deaths in dogs. Pie chart before the 11:40 minute gives you the break-down of the leading causes of death, and diabetes is huge too.

Pretty interesting and really makes you think about what your feeding to your furbaby. Thanks for sharing it with us.
My nephew and his girlfriend put ground up vegs and chicken into their dog's food, 2 pugs, one black in color (Champ) the other fawn (Milo). They used to be overweight but after adding the vegs/chicken they have slimmed down and their coats do look a lot shinier.
2 years ago Champ developed cancer in one of his front legs, surgery took care of it and it was after that the vegs/chicken were introduced...so far the cancer hasn't come back...knock on wood.

I've learn a lot with this video. Thank you for sharing this helpful video.
When Keesh was young he swallowed a rock. He postured in the play stance and out of curiosity I asked the vet what that meant, and he said pain. In right away for an xray and sure enough, a rock lodged between his stomach and bowel. They said that is the worst place to have a problem and they wouldn't guarantee anything. Terrified I was, but he came through it like a champ. So vet says absolutely no dog food for 2 weeks, strictly chicken and rice or hamburger and rice until he healed.
Right there and then I thought what does that tell you about dog food. So my little bugger after that episode would refuse dog food completely and would go for days without eating to the point of dry heaves if there wasn't human food in his dish. Happy to say he lived to be over 15-not bad for a golden/collie mix and never went a day without his people food- LOL- another quirk of his I so badly miss. Think I cooked more for him then the humans in the family.....:)
