Hello, and welcome to you and your dog. I saw that you had posted a reply on the thread of a currently inactive member, so I've taken the liberty of moving your post in order to create a thread that is your very own. Welcome to you, and we're really glad you've joined us!

It will help us a great deal if you can share some more specifics about your dog's overall health history, the symptoms that led to Cushing's testing, and those actual test results. Once we know more about him, we can give you better feedback as to what you may expect with treatment. In the meantime, here's a link to a publication issued by Vetoryl's manufacturer that is loaded with helpful info about the medication.

Welcome, I can't give you the advice the other members can but I can give you my personal experience with Vetoryl. The dosage sounds correct for weight , my baby weighted 30lbs and was started on 60mg Vetoryl, he couldn't walk, pooped on himself and was really out of it. I found this forum and was informed that was an overdose. Just watch for anything that is not usual. When the dose was adjusted I did see changes for the good.

Thank you so much for your advice. 6 years ago Vet took test but results were not clear. He has always had weight issue and was put on thyroid pills. In Sept he had blood in urine. Bladder infection. This week again blood and Vet found marble size stones. Operated and removed stones Tues. Took Cushing test again ALKP 1797 U/L. Should be 23-212. Pu him on 30 mg of Vetoryl.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Did the vet do the cushing test (ACTH) right after the surgery? Because that could yield false high results due to the trauma of a surgery. Do you have a copy of the results of the acth test?

30mg would be an appropriate starting dose for a 30lb dog. You want to watch for any vomiting, diarrhea, refusing food/water, excessive lethargy, not able to walk, stand. These could be signs of over suppression.

You might want to consider a liver support supplement like sam-e, milk thistle.
Where any other ranges high or low on his blood work?
