hello all. my Keno is my furrst ever furr baby and i have spoiled her quite a bit. she has always been a huge cuddle bug and happy girl.
personality change and weight loss is what brought us to the vet. she has a history of mast cell tumors 3 yrs ago so i was afraid cancer was back. bloodwork and a marked increase in thirst and urination and hunger led to an ATCH test and they diagnosed cushings. she has no signs of bloated belly or skin/ furr changes. she is on 10mg of Veyoryl 2 x a day and hunger and thirst and urination are back to normal, 3 repeated ATCH tests came back with good results but she is just not happy. shes very anxious and skittish, not as cuddly... ive had two vets check her for arthritis / pain to see if thats what brought on the personality changes and both did not think she is in pain. but it breaks my heart to see her so sad. even two complete strangers have said to me "that dog looks sad"

anyone else have experiences with this? and solutions?

Welcome to you and Keno. I don't know what to make of her anxiety, if her cortisol levels are good and she's not in pain. I'm curious though if you happen to have the results of the bloodwork and ACTH tests - the actual numbers are helpful sometimes. For bloodwork, only the numbers that are marked out of range are necessary, along with what the normal range is for the lab. Maybe something in those numbers may give someone here a suggestion.

Welcome! I'm new here too so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. :) But have you checked her thyroid levels?

Getting those ACTH stimulation test results and posting them here would really help us in providing you with better feedback. The therapeutic ranges for Vetoryl are 1.5 ug/dl - 5.4 ug/dl and that post number can go as high as 9.1 ug/dl if clinical signs are controlled. Now, what works for one dog may not for another, and even though the vet says her ACTH results are good it may just be that Keno needs her cortisol numbers to run a bit higher.

Hello,

I agree with Lori, some dogs do better being just a tad higher and that might be the case with your furbaby but it rather depends on what the actual numbers are.

Also, what was her thyroid results if those were included on the bloodwork as that too can cause some personality changes.
