I have recently got my maltese regulated on 15 mg vetoryl twice daily. She's doing well. She is also diabetic and takes insulin twice daily. I just ordered trilostane from diamond back and am about to start that compounded medicine soon. Was curious to hear from others on this site that have experience with using Compounded trilostane vs vetoryl. I'm a little nervous switching but the cost is enormous. I have to give it a try. Would love to hear from anyone about your thoughts ???? Randy

Hello and welcome to the forum. We also have a sister site for diabetes, www.k9diabetes.com/forum.

That is excellent that she is regulated for both her cushings and her diabetest. That is no easy task!

We have several members who use Diamondback and as far as I have ever heard their compounded trilostane works very well and they have a good reputation. I use compounded trilostane, but not Diamondback, as I'm in Canada. If I was in the US though, they would be one of my first choices for a compounding pharmacy.

Hi Randy. I use trilostane and it has been just as effective as the 7 months she was on the named brand Vetoryl. The most important thing is to use a reputable Compounding pharmacy such as the one Molly Muffin suggested. I am in Australia so it is a bit different here, we can get the same doses that Dechra make (so 30mg, 60mg etc). I think most other countries can only compound in doses that don't conflict with Dechra's (Vetoryl) own. But since your dog is diabetic then I am assuming she has her 15mg split twice a day (it is important that a diabetic dog gets the split dose as twice a day helps to regulate both the Cushings and diabetes :) ).

Hi Randy,

Since she has been doing well on vetoryl and her diabetes is controlled, you shouldn't have any problems switching to a compound. If you do see problems or symptoms returning you will at least know what it is a result of. Like Sharlene mentioned, Diamondback pharmacy is very trusted within this online community of pet owners. I can absolutely relate to the cost being so high. I am about to make the switch as well. Good luck,

~Kat

Thanks, I am using Diamondback and started her on compounded 15mg twice daily. They were quick and medicine looks good. Capsules don't have much in them. (squeezing them) Seem almost empty. Probably don't have the fillers that name brand has. Just straight medicine. It was nice giving her one capsule vs. two this morning. I will watch her symptoms closely for the next few weeks and pray all goes well. I really need the savings. Tests, medicine, Vet bills.... I could have bought a nice car. Randy

We can all relate to the toll high vet medicines and testing can take. I'm sure several of us are financing college and lifestyles for the vets kids. :) :)

Hopefully the new compounded trilostane will work perfectly for you.
