I have a thread going that I'd like to keep active but wanted to post this outside the thread to see if anyone can give me guidance on this.

With Athena's increase in dosage from 60mgs to 90mgs, as you know there are no 90mgs capsules. We have to give her a 60 and a 30. Well when I went to dose her I noticed the 60 and 30 mgs capsules are identical in color, size, and markings. Called my Vet. She actually came to the phone and checked the meds because she didn't know it was like that.

She confirmed in fact it was and was going to call the company. I guess to find out why they are not a different color or something else. I know the boxes say 60 and 30 and the foil on the back does but those pills are identical.

As with human meds. Increasing or decreasing a dose can change the color/shape of a tablet or capsule so that concerned me

Anyone else on this type of dosage and have the identical capsules in both boxes?

Hope this makes sense. Very tired..and didn't have a good vet appt

Thanks for your help

They're all the same look, regardless of dosage.

This is a such a good question to have asked. As you'll see, I've edited your thread title a little bit in order to make the topic clearer. We usually do "merge" members' multiple threads all together, but this is an informative question that bears being left all on its own. ;)

It surely does seem unusual that all the dosage strengths are marked identically, so thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention.

Thought this would help. The only difference is the writing on the pill that says the dosage.

I quickly made the above picture to show the 3 common doses. Ill snap a pic of the 120s tonight.

So even though the size and coloring are the same, at least the capsules are individually marked with the correct dosage amount.

Thanks so much, Penny's Dad!!

No problem, the 120mg is larger though.

Ill take a comparison shot of the 60 and 120 tonight.

It would be nice if they would make each dosage a different color. I try my best to never touch the pills, but if I had different dosages and had to check each pill for that small type, I would end up touching them for sure.

Vetoryl (Trilostane) is a powerful drug and should not come in contact with human skin. Wear gloves when you handle them. If that's not possible, wash your hands very well after touching them. I used to pick them up with a paper towel or napkin and carefully wrapped them in a pill pocket for dosing, never touching them directly. The dog I have now is not as easy with pills. I have to use a pill shooter and it's nearly impossible not to touch the pills, particularly when she spits them out Three or four times. She is not taking pills with warnings, but if she was, I would wear gloves. ;)
