I hope this is okay to ask.... One of my volunteer activities is blogging for a local animal welfare group. I'm running a series on senior pets. As our senior dog struggled with Cushings, I hoped to include a post about it. Has anyone here written on the topic and would information that I could reprint with permission?

I think that your best bet would be to comb the resource section on cushings, diagnosing, types of cushings (pituitary, adrenal, atypical), the cause, the medications options, the testings and the monitoring tests.

Those would be the topics that you could cover point by point.

I don't know that we have ever specifically written a specific topic post like that, but yet we right ever day about those very topics. (if that makes sense)

I think if you follow those topics, you could easily put together something.

This is a poster type sheet I made to put up at local pet stores or hand out and I posed to facebook. Anyone can use it that wants to and you can substitute in your own pictures also.

I'm with Sharlene. I don't think anyone here has written about the topic. You could always set up interviews by sending personal messages to members. I know people here would be very grateful to help. Or you can ask any question you would want answered on a new thread or this one. I for one love giving information about this disease and want to help as many pet owners as I possibly can.

Can you post a link to your blog? Maybe I can get an idea of the type of information you are looking for.

You can also paste a link to our forum, one does not need to be a member to gain access to our Resource forum, which has an abundant of information that includes articles written by some of the most renown veterinarians that specialize in endocrinology such as David Bruyette, Mark Peterson, and Edward Feldman. ;)

Thanks for the responses!

The blog I write for contains a lot of varied topics. Here's the link:
https://lincolnanimalambassadors.wordpress.com/

I've been trying to find a representative post. The best I could find is one about dogs and food: https://lincolnanimalambassadors.wordpress.com/2015/11/04/what-should-you-feed-dogs/

A reason I hesitate to write the post exclusively on my own is that I had such limited experience with Cushings. We had our dog for only three years before losing him to a host of issues including Cushings. I like your idea of posting questions and will try to come up with ones over the weekend.

Actually, I'm also going to be writing about senior cats and about CKD. While I feel comfortable with my knowledge about it, there is a user group for owners of cats with kidney disease and I might pose questions there too, so I can get a more personal and rounded article.

Hi Allison,

I will definitely take a look at your blog. I'm going to give you a couple links to the websites that helped me learn the most about Cushing's. Dr. David Bruyette and Dr. David Peterson are two very well known Veterinarians that have much knowledge with this disease. Dr.B being the first doc to preform a hypophysectomy on a dog in the united states. That's a fancy medical word for the removal of a pituitary gland tumor.

A lot of us know just how overwhelming it is to a beginner looking to learn about Cushing's. If you decide to post a thread with questions (which I think is a great idea) make sure to request that you would like sources to any feedback or responses.

Hi Allison,

Please feel free to repost the info found on the Tipper and Squirt Care for Cushing's Fund website if it is what you are looking for - as long as the fund is noted. ;) Here is the link to our write-up, "About Cushing's", which features 8 yr old Rover :p -

Sharlene, hi.

Do you have a link to your poster at Facebook? Could I include the poster at my group's blog, if I credit you?

The info on the Tipper and Squirt Care website would be perfect! If you're okay with my reprinting it, I'd definitely give credit. Do you have any biographical info that you'd like me to include? How about photos?

Katherine and all,

Thanks everyone for the discussion! I've looked at the various links everyone listed and taken notes. Even now, I admit to still feeling overwhelmed, but I also want to share this topic and so....

What I think would work best is if I write a short introduction that explains what Cushings is and then include responses from ones here to various questions. This would allow for a personal touch; those type of articles seem to have most appeal at my group's blog.

Allison, any of the info on the site you are more than welcome to use. Like I said, just please credit the fund's website. ;) As for bios - Patti and I aren't the focus - our baby girls and those we are able to aid are. The info on the Home page tells how the fund came to be and each pup who has received a grant so far has a pic in the Happy Tails section. The owners are aware their babies may be used as promotions so if those pics help, please use them, crediting the fund and those baby's names as listed. Under the Resource tab, Helpful Links, you will find links to Long Beach Animal Hospital and Mar Vista Animal Medical Center - both good sources of information.

This seems to be a good thing you are doing and we wish you the very best of luck!

Thank you for your generosity! My husband and I loved our Gizmo. Although Gizmo died of more than just Cushings, this is what he had when we first adopted Gizmo, and posting about it will be one way to help honor him.

Just to let everyone know.... I posted questions under a separate discussion entitled: Your Experience with Cushings

I'm following your blog and hope to read about Gizmo soon. I just read through his history here but it wasn't as long as I had hoped. I'm so very sorry. As difficult as it will be to write about him, you will find great strength in sharing his story.

Kathryn, hi.

Thanks for checking out LAA Pet Talk, the blog I write for! I don't know if I've really written about Gizmo before them.

Here are a few items I wrote about him on my own personal review blog, probably far more than you wanted to read. :-)

I've just finished writing two articles about Gizmo for LAA Pet Talk, both of which made me cry. I'll post links next week once they're up.

Gizmo was such a character. I cried all over again, reading the tributes.
