Hi! I have some questions that I can not get any answers to and was hoping I could here?
My baby had her test done on Fri. Vet is pretty sure when he gets the results back on Tues, they will be positive.
She has had symptoms for months. He diagnosed her with diabetes. She has been controlled since Nov. All of a sudden for no. Reason, her glucose raised for no reason, and we can not get it to come back Down, even with upping her insulin doses.
So after her cushings test, She has been lethargic, throwing up bile (and even a blood clot), weak and even stumbled a couple times, she won't eat but still drinks to the point of throwing up. She lays outside in the snow until I panic and bring her in.
She has been blind for over a year, and has lost all her hair about 5 months ago. The hair grew back after we got her on the insulin.
I guess my question is, (until I can get her back to the vet in the morning) Are these normal symptoms? Am I losing my fur daughter? Has my vet missed symptoms???(I have had her to the vets 2 times a week for the last 5 months) Are these side effects from the initial cushings test she had on Friday? I am not ready to lose my girl. Any feedback will help. Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

The first thing I want to do is to let you know about our sister site for diabetes. Please join there as they know a lot about diabetes.

This sounds alot like uncontrolled diabetes, but I'm not sure why and as I have only had a moment I hope that some of the others will pop in soon.

Thank You for the added diabetes site.
From what I am learning, diabetes can become uncontrolled if cushings is involved. (Not saying that is the case, as I am waiting for the results of the tests), but her diabetes went out of control and nothing has changed in her diet or daily activities. I am just scared to death with all these symptoms she is having directly after her long day of the 8 hour test on Fri.
I have never even heard of this disease until the dr brought it up to me in Sept. But he wanted to treat her diabetes first and get it under control before tackling this. I am also slowly losing faith in my vet, but am worried about switching her until I get the results back and know what is going on for sure.

Hi and welcome to you and Lilo

One quick question, was she checked for ketones?

I am not sure... I will bring it up tomorrow morning when I call. It seems, every time I question what is going on, this vet really gets irritated with me. Basically all he has really done is test her glucose, and adjust her insulin. Until I demanded the test for cushings be done (to at least rule it out)
She had hair loss (to the point where she was bald)
over eating
Excessive drinking
Urinating too frequently
Gaining excessive weight
Panting for no reason
Now shortness in breath/ strained breathing
She is blind
Skin. Infections
Black heads on belly
Lethargic

The only thing that stumps me is the pot belly appearance. She gets like that, but it actually comes and goes.

I. Googled KETONES....... OMG!!! I will definately bring this up, THANK YOU

Lilo's symptoms sound like a dog in a diabetic ketoacidosis crisis. I am not well versed in diabetes but am pretty sure that when ketones are found in the urine (ketoacidosis) it can become life threatening and needs to be addressed immediately.

You can check for ketones with a store bought kit, one name brand is Keto-Diastix.
