Hi
my 9 year old yorkie (Roxy) was diagnosed with cushings on 1st July after numerous tests and started Vetoryl 10mg the next day. had bloods test again 13 july results were good. had retest 3rd august again results were good. went back to vets 12 for test again as i wasnt happy as roxy is just not herself. still drinking 600ml/800ml, getting up weeing, results again came back saying the cushings is under control. Vet changed to morning and evening doses of 5mg. that was 24th aug. Her drinking is down to 400/500ml as a day, has the odd accident but shes so lifeless. theres no tail wagging so depressed in herself. she also seems to go in a trance staring at the water bowl and sumtimes appears drunk wobbly. im back at the vets tomorrow for the ACTH cushings test again but im worried they will just tell me the cushings is under control. any advice would be appreciated thank you.

Hi and welcome to you and Roxy!
I'm sure sorry for the reasons that brought you here but glad that you found us.
We love details, so if you would tell us more about Roxy Cushing's journey it really help us to provide you with better feedback, so that means we will be asking a lot of questions, and here are some of mine.
Could you get copies of the results of all diagnostic and monitoring tests (ACTH stimulating) that were performed on Roxy for the Cushing's and post them here with their timelines and the Vetoryl dose she was taking? How much does Roxy weigh? Were a blood chemistry & complete blood count (CBC) test done? If so, could you post the high and low values along with their normal reference ranges and reporting units? Does your girl have any other underlying diseases, and if so, what are they and what meds is she taking for it?
Ok, I believe I have asked enough questions, and will be looking forward in hearing more about sweet Roxy. Please know we will help in any way we can, and do not hesitate to ask all the questions you want.
Hugs, Lori

hi lori,
thanks for reply. ive not got the first results which diagnosed the cushings. the next test was pre 32.0 post 58.2 and roxy was having 10mg in the morning. urine still a problem at night blood chemistry and biochemistry seem to be ok according to the vet. have the results but dont really understand them. :)
next acth pre 62.9 post 127.0
no signs of infection, urine isosthenuric then last test biochem within normal limits acth pre 212.0 post 579.0.
Unfortunately Roxy just seems so depressed and not herself. is on 5mg trilostane twice daily. back to the vets tonight for another overnight stay. acth testing. Roxy has no oter illness or meds for anything else but has had a couple of urine infections, skin has improved on trilostane, her weight is 4kg.
thanks again Roxys Mum

Hi, welcome to the forum.
Scratching my head here.
Can you please write the dates of the each ACTH test next to the each results for us again? I want to make sure if the results you gave us were not backwards as each time her numbers went up instead of going down since the start of trilostane.
The symptoms you described in your first post that she's having right now are more in line with an overdose.
Thank you for doing that for us in advance. Song.

I am having a VERY hard time understanding what you are writing but I will try - at 4kg your baby should be on no more than 8mg of this drug. Your vet is overdosing your dog IF I AM READING YOUR POSTS CORRECTLY.
Regardless, STOP giving the Vetoryl.
Please get copies of all the ACTHs given so far and post those results here.
Please get copies of all the tests done to diagnose the Cushing's in the first place and post those results here. The actual results, not the invoice, and NOT the vet saying "controlled" - we want to see those numbers asap.
If your baby vomits or has diarrhea, get Roxy to an ER immediately.

sorry im new and confused. easly done.
1st acth test 29/6 no result of vet but diagnosed and started 10mg vetoryl one daily.
13/7 acth result pre 32.0 post 58.2
next test 3/8 pre 62.9 post 127.0
I had another test done 13/8 as I was concerned the tablets were wearing off the results were pre 212.0 post 579.0
vet then recommended 5mg trilostane twice daily. im still concerned and Roxy is booked in tonight for retests, her behaviour is odd and im bothered the medication doesnt suit her. when she has a drink she gets wobbly and sometimes appears drunk. hopefully ive given you right details.

We need to know the reporting units for those ACTH numbers that you gave us, are they in nmol/L or ug/dl?

Please, see if I got things right.
Roxy, 9 yrs old yorkie weighs 4kg/8.8lbs
6/29 : A diagnostic ACTH test was done which you don't have the results on hand. Started on 10mg trilostane.
Assuming the numbers are in nmol,
7/13: ACTH pre 32.0 (1.16 ug/dl), post 58.2 (2.11)
8/3: ACTH pre 62.9(2.28), post 127(4.60)
8/13: ACTH pre 212(7.68), post 579(20.99)
9/23, tonight another ACTH test is scheduled
I'm still not convinced that if the dates you gave us are not backward.
Nonetheless, to me it sounds like she's suffering from trilostane overdose but the ACTH test from tonight will tell you more definite picture whether she's or not.
I know it's hard but try to hang in there and update us please.
Hugs, Song.

hi Song ive put the results as given to me as I asked for a print out two weeks ago as im not happy with the way Roxy is . Ive not given her second tablet though she is now due one . Im going to ask vets some questions before shes admitted , in my reports the original first ACTH test is missing the actual one that diagnosed Cushings. The 23/9 test was done 12 hours after 10mg tablet to see how long it was effective for thats when Roxys dosage was changed to twice daily 5mg.Thanks for listening .Roxys mum
