Trilostane and Apoquel?

Any one know of good or bad stories about combining these two?

Hamilton is a 10 year-old MN Boston Terrier with Atypical Cushing's (all the sex hormones EXCEPT his cortisol is elevated). His allergies have always been bad but with the Trilostane and his cortisol being on the very low end of normal, they are now out of control.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Okay, the very first thing I want to say is that you do NOT give trilostane for atypical cushings. Trilostane/vetroyl is used to solely lower cortisol levels. That is why he is so very low and this can be life threatening dangerous. Stop immediately please.

You use lignans and melatonine, this helps to bring down the sex hormones which is what you need to do with atypical.

As far as Apoquel, if you can get it, definitely do, it is as far as we have heard from others, a miracle drug for dogs with allergies and does not interact with the cushings treatments. So you can use with the lignans and melatonin.

As I said though the most important thing is to Not give any moe trilostane, if he doesn't have normal cushings with raised cortisol due to a pituitary or adrenal tumor, this should Not be given. It is even risky to give it.

Please stop the Trilo. That is to be used when the cortisol is elevated. The treatment for Atypical is as Sharlene said - lignans and melatonin only for the first 4months or so, then if needed Lysodren is added as a maintenance dose only. Trilostane has been proved to CAUSE elevations in the intermediates, the very hormones that are already elevated in an Atypical pup. So for 2 reasons, Trilo is not the drug for your baby. ;)

How has your baby been behaving? Any signs of over dose - vomiting/nausea, loose stools/diarrhea, loss of appetite, lethargic?
