I have a bichon with cushings for over a year. Lately she is coughi ng then gagging. Does cushings have anything to do with dog coughing? She is 15 years old.

Hi and welcome to our site.
Coughing and gagging can be caused by various conditions and not too common in treated Cushing's.
Have you had a chance to talk to your vet on this? It could be allergies, stomach issues, heart problems, conditions causing excess fluid in the lungs, trachea problems or something is stuck in his throat.
Is your boy taking any medication for the Cushing's? If yes, what kind and what is the dose.
Sorry for all the questions, but the more we know the better we can help you find an answer.

Just having gone thru a week of being scared out of my mind after a diagnosis of CHF I strongly advise you to have your baby seen by an IMS who can look in depth at the heart and lungs. It turned out my baby does not have CHF but something similar to COPD. But without the input and tests the IMS could do that the GP could not, we would have been treating for the wrong thing.

My dog is named Harley and he was diagnosis with cushings Sept 2013. He is on trilostane 15mg. I have always thought his coughing was seasonal with allergies, but recently I'm not so sure.
He had a rabies shot and heart worm check yesterday and vet said to uses a harness instead of a collar due to possible tracheal collapse. He doesn't cough all the time. He also continues to lose weight from the cushings. I know he's an old dog. He can't hear anymore and vision is decreasing. He is also peeing whenever he feels like it which is a problem. But everyday he still acts like a puppy and wants to play ball. It's sure rough getting old.

CHF stands for "congestive heart failure." This is a situation in which the heart is not pumping as efficiently as it should be, and fluid can accumulate in the chest area in which the heart and lungs are located. This can lead to coughing and respiratory distress.

I'm sorry- CHF is Congestive Heart Failure.
Tracheal problems that cause a cough usually have a honking sound. Using a harness will help a lot with that since collars put pressure right on the trachea. If it is a collapsing trachea, which is common in small breeds and older dogs, Adequan injections may help.
