Hello: My Peanut was just diagnosed with Cushion's. I started her first pill today on Vetoryl. I am a bit reluctant to put her on the meds, because of side effects and costs. I found an alternative that the testimonials have been amazing: It's called Adrenal Harmony Gold Natural Remedy. It's a liquid drop. The testimonials indicated that there dog did not receive any assistance with Vetoryl and once started taking Adrenal Harmony, improvements where way better. - I am thinking I should take this route. Anyone out there tired this or heard of this? It's on the Pet Wellbeing website at petwellbeing.com

would love to hear anything. Thank you, Tracey

Hello and welcome to you and Peanut! I have only a moment to write this morning, but I do want to strongly caution you about accepting the miraculous claims of the Adrenal Harmony sellers. This is just the most recent version of a miracle cure that, insofar as we know, has never received any genuine testing or validation whatsoever. Here's a pretty scathing note that one of our Administrators posted about the product last December:

It is true that Vetoryl (and Lysodren, the other chief Rx med used to treat Cushing's) are powerful drugs. But if Adrenal Harmony Gold was genuinely effective in lowering cortisol, it would have to be a powerful chemical, too. These folks try to lure frightened owners into buying something that is "gentle" for their dogs. Unfortunately, "gentle" is typically the same thing as saying "doesn't really do anything," or at least nothing that has been objectively tested or measured. :o

Rave customer testimonials aside, if Peanut truly has Cushing's, Vetoryl is a treament that has been genuinely researched and is known to have the capability of lowering cortisol. Can you tell us more, though, about Peanut's health history and the Cushing's diagnostics? What symptoms led to the testing, and what tests were done? Also, how much does she weigh, and how much Vetoryl is she taking?

Sorry for so many questions, but your answers will be a great help to us going forward!

Hi to you and Peanut and welcome to the forum.

How much does peanut weigh and what dosage of vetroyl was she started on? How is she doing?

You generally want to start at 1mg/1lb so as to limit any risks of overdosing.

I've hard that adrenal harmony and cushex etc can address symptoms for awhile. It doesn't address the high cortisol that causes the symptoms though so that is what the vetroyl does. Eventually as the cortisol lowers, symptoms should also get better or go away. So that is the good thing and that you have got her started, so hopefully things will be looking up soon.
