Bronx is my rescue manchester terrier he is 9-11 years old ( told he was 5 ) it isn't an exact science ;). After blood work creating cortisol and the dem blood work and a ultrasound Bronx has pituitary dependent cushings so he has enlarged adrenals but vet who is an internist and specializes in this believes their is a tumor on the pituitary. The ultrasound also showed a spot on his spleen.
Started veterocyl 30 am and 30 pm this is day four he seems much shakier today didn't want to eat his dinner and way more shakes.
His creating/ cortisol was 57. His dem test was 157/ 156 was the marker but all three together coupled with his unbelievable thirst and desire to eat enlarged abdomen. Well you all know the saying walks like aduck acts like a duck. The worst part for me is he has become agrresive. Any thoughts advice

Hello and welcome to the forum.
How much does Bronx weigh? The formula for staring out on vetroyl is at 1mg/1lb. He might be on too high of a dose, because he shouldn't be shaky after just four days on the medication.
If you notice diarrhea, vomiting, refusing to eat, lethargy, can't stand, stop medication immediately and have an ACTH done.
The aggression could be because he isn't feeling so well and his cortisol has dropped too fast.

Hi and welcome to you and Bronx!

I have manually approved your membership so now all your posts will be seen right away. Also please just disregard the validation email that was sent to you from k9cushings.

If you would tell us more about dear Bronx we would be able to provide you with better feedback, ok? So here's my set of questions  How much does Bronx weigh? Could you get copies of all the test/s that were done on Bronx and post those values that are abnormal with the reference ranges and unit of measurement....ALT 150 U/L (5-50)...thanks! Is Bronx taking any other herbs/supplements/medications? We are especially interested in the results from all diagnostic tests that were done on Bronx.

If Bronx is not eating than the Vetoryl needs to be stopped, is he displaying any other adverse effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy? If so, than Bronx would require medical attention and then the Vetoryl would have to be stopped. Has the vet prescribed prednsione for you to keep on hand? Perednisone is given when a dog's cortisol has dropped tool low, which may have happened to Bronx.

As for the Vetoryl, is it being administered with food which is needed for proper absorption? Has an ACTH stimulation test been scheduled 10-14 day after the Vetoryl was started?

Since enlargement of both adrenals were visualized on the ultrasound this is indicative for the pituitary type of Cushing's. Regarding the spleen, what exactly did the ultrasound show and is the vet going to look further into this?

From your post it sounds like an Low Dose Dexamethasone Suppression test (LDDS) was performed, is this correct? Although this is the gold standard test to use to diagnose Cushing's false positive results can be created when a dog has an underlying health issue, which is why I am asking about that mark on his spleen.

For right now, if this were me, I would not give Bronx anymore Vetoryl, at least until his appetite has returned.

Please know we are here for you and Bronx and if you have any questions do not hesitate to ask them. ;)

Hugs, Lori

like molly muffin said ;The formula for starting out on vetroyl is at 1mg/1lb.
what does a manchester terrier weigh? about 20 pounds /10 kg i guess. then 60 mg is way too much for him and that is why he isn't feeling well!
i should stop the vetoryl till he is feeling better and restart at a much lower dosage.
