It is so wonderful to find this huge community of loving people living with dogs with Cushing syndrome.

My dog Nalita, was diagnosed about 8 months ago with Cushing, she currently takes Vetoryl 30mg daily... We live in Mexico City and our supplier (as well as many others) haven't been able to import from the States the medicine. I took the risk of lowering the dose to 1 pill every other day, but I can start noticing changes in her. Does any of you know how to get Vetoryl from the U.S. to Mexico? I do have her original prescriptions! I just don't know if those would be valid in the U.S. If so, I would appreciate your comments on this.

Thanks a million form Nalita and Myself (Itzel) :)

Welcome Itzel and Nalita! I am sorry you are having such a difficult time ordering Nalita's Vetoryl. Did you originally get her medication there in Mexico City, or did it come from somewhere else? How about the prescriptions?

One suggestion I have is that you contact a compounding pharmacy located in Arizona here in the U.S. Here is their website: www.diamondbackdrugs.com. They do not sell brandname Vetoryl, but they do sell a compounded version of the drug that contains the very same effective ingredient. I believe they are able to ship medication internationally, and since they are located in Arizona, they may be familiar with Mexico's importation policies. Even if you decide you prefer to find an internet pharmacy that can ship brandname Vetoryl, the people at Diamondback may be able to tell you what you need to do to make that happen.

Had Nalita been doing well when taking that dose daily? Can you tell us what symptoms and testing led to the Cushing's diagnosis in the first place?

Once again, welcome!
Marianne

Hi Marianne! Thank You so much for your reply.

The Vetoryl Nalita takes we used to get it here in Mexico, the first 2 months were a nightmare, the only Vetoryl we found was 10mg caps and she had to take 3 a day! So when we found the 30mg caps we started to buy 3 to 4 boxes to stay stocked, and since last couple of weeks when we where down to 1 box I started looking for it and found that there had been some issues importing the meds. I do have her prescription :)

I will definitely call the compounding pharmacy to see what we can do. Thanks a million for that.

So, Nalita was diagnosed in a VetHospital that is inside a university campus, there are specialized vets and also students that get to learn from every animal that comes in. If you feel curious here is the link (I believe it's only in Spanish, sorry about that) http://www.universidaduvm.mx/hospital-veterinario

We started noticing changes since we move from a big house to an apartment, she started gaining weigh and we thought it was because the lack of physical activity (she used to run a lot in the garden) and then she was thirsty all the time, she could not see a plate of water because she had to finish it all thus she she was peeing all over the place, and she was desperately hungry. Her belly began to grow, and it was very stiff almost hard, she could not stand in two legs. AWe thought it was diabetis (thisty, hungry, peeing a lot) and we took it to run some test. At the end diabetis was discarded her sugar levels were just fine. So the vets decided to run suppression test to see the cortisone level in her blood. The test lasted almost a day, they made several tests changing doses and time in between doses until they found that she had Cushing deseas and it is treatable with Verotyl.

Since week one she stopped drinking that much water and peeing that much. She was still hungry but not desperately hungry. She was running again (we move to a new house with garden) and to our surprise she was back to jump in two legs as soon as we get home.
She is a happy dog :) and a very loved one.

I will let you know how it went with the pharmacy you suggested.

Much love from Nala and me
Itzel:)
