Hi there,

Sasha is a 10 years old mini schnauzer. She's been diagnosed with Cushing's and put on 10 mg of Vetoryl a day plus one pill of Denamarin a day. We are running out of Denamarin so I bought a liquid milk thistle to try and substitute Denamarin with it as it is getting to be too expensive for me with all the ATCH tests etc. She had 2 tests done so far and only one 5 days after starting Vetoryl. Her next test is scheduled for January 13, 2015.

My question is how much milk thistle should I give her instead of Denamarin. This one that I bought contains 870mg of Milk Thistle per 15 ml. Sasha weighs 7kg.

Also wanted to ask. She still keeps on licking herself and her breath is just horrible. Is that something that happens with Cushing's dogs or is it something that I should do something about it? I am still learning and don't know much about it.

I also have a diabetic male mini schnauzers so between the two of them I am super busy and also it's getting to be so expensive :( :(

Dosing for Milk Thistle tincture -

1.0-2.0 ml per 10mg (20 lbs), divided equally into am and pm doses, diluted or combined with other herbs

This will work for either alcohol or glycerite tinctures, but those made with glycerine are better for our pups and they are apt to take it a bit better, too. ;)

The ACTH needs to be done 2 weeks after starting, not before unless there has been a problem. How much does your baby weigh? Can you tell us more about your baby - what signs you were seeing, what prompted the vet to test for Cushing's in the first place, any other health issues?
