Hello,
Back in 2009 I first wondered in to this awesome forum for support as my little beagle Sadie began her battle with an adrenal tumor. Now I am returning as my 11 year old beagle Toby has begun his fight with cushings. As much as I hated to hear the diagnosis, I am actually relieved that it is pituitary this time.
Toby is on his fourth day of Vetoryl and so far, no negative side effects. I will be interested in others' experiences with this medication.
Thanks

Wow, welcome back, Dave -- although I'm guessing this was a return that you were not planning on making! :o
We have a couple of other folks, too, who have returned to us fairly recently with newly diagnosed dogs. On one hand it seems surprising to see lightning strike the same household twice. But on the other hand, I think that owners who are already experienced with the disease are more likely to recognize the symptoms earlier on and proceed with testing.
Regardless, we are here to help you and Toby any way we can! As you will see, many more members are using trilostane now than was the case back in 2009. So you will have no difficulty finding threads and experiences to review. We still go through the same old drill with a bunch of questions of our own, though ;). So can you tell us a bit more about Toby's symptoms and diagnostic testing? Also, how much does he weigh and what dose of Vetoryl is he taking?
Thanks so much for the info!

DAVE! Welcome to you and Toby! :)
Nice to hear from you again even tho this isn't the way we would have wanted to hear from you - another cush pup! They just know. I'm telling you they just know. "It's A-OK to have Cushing's with this guy! He knows the ropes!" :D
Sounds like ya'll are off to a good start. Stay in touch and let us know how things are progressing. You know what signs to look for that would indicate the cortisol has gone too low - loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, loose stools, diarrhea, loss of energy/lethargy. You know to stop the med and call the vet ASAP if you see any of these things. Do you have pred on hand just in case? And you know we are just a keystroke away. ;)
Hugs,

Hi, Dave! I am also a two-time Cush pup Mom and ... both beagles! My first beagle, Maggie, was difficult to diagnose -- finally diagnosed with atypical Cushing's and then later on developed "regular" Cushing's. By that time she had advanced liver disease and the last two years of her life were pretty rough. Now I have Abbie who I adopted when she was 7 years old and is now 11 1/2 and, like you, was so relieved that she has pituitary based Cushing's and we were able to diagnose very early in the disease process. I am treating her with Lysodren -- she is on week 4 of maintenance and is tolerating treatment quite well. Hugs to Toby and I hope he continues to do well on his trilostane treatment!
