Last week Maggie was finally diagnosed with Cushings. This is her 7th day on Trilostane. She is still a mess and so am I. Although her numbers aren't high, her symptoms are severe. She shakes for 20+ min at a time several times a day, pants, pees in the house and next to her food bowl. She's emotionally regressing. She is aggressive. She's had a hard life before this. Maggie lived in a cage along with 800 other small dogs for the first 5 years of her life. I hope the drug starts working soon. She sees her Vet next Thursday.

Oh my goodness! Poor little Maggie. I'm so thankful you rescued that sweet baby and I know Maggie is grateful for you!
I'm sorry she's feeling so bad right now. I'm fairly new to having a pup with Cushing's myself so I understand what a stressful and fearful time this is for you. You have found the right place to seek help and the experts here will be along shortly to help you, help Maggie. They will ask you many questions about her medical history so be prepared. With regard to an improvement in symptoms, that usually depends on her dosage and how her body metabolizes the trilostane. If she is on the correct dosage, you should start to see some improvement any time now. Hang in there! Hopefully Maggie will be feeling better very soon.

Oh my okay. So, first welcome to the forum.
Now, lets talk real fast about what dose of trilostane is she on and how much does she weigh? Important to start out conservatively with 1mg/1lb at most.
Next, does she have ravenous hunger, does she drink/pee more than normal, how is her skin and coat?
What tests were done to confirm cushings?
Do you have the test results and could you post them here including any high or low blood results with the range? like ALKP 350ug (50 - 150)
This helps us to get to know Maggie and her condition and answer your questions better.
Where thyroid, diabetes, kidney issues ruled out?
So, glad you rescued your sweet maggie.
Hang in there

Thank you for being willing to help.Maggie pees and drinks constantly. Her appetite is voracious. She weighs 11.4 and is taking 11.5 mg Trilostane. So far no good results. She sees the vet tomorrow. I will get copies of test results and pass them on here. She gets me up at 4:20 every morning to eat and pee. I'm exhausted. Hope this will improve.
Post the test results when you get them ok?

Bear in mind that some of this behavior may be learned from being in a cage for so long. Pups like that don't have any choice but to void where they lay, eat, sleep and breed. Even tho she may have learned quite a bit by now from your loving hand, when she feels bad she may revert to what she always knew instead of the new "tricks". She may know this is not "right" but cannot help herself right now due to the Cushing's and may become more confused behaviorally. So be very patient and consistent with her.
You are an angel to give her a real home where she can finally learn not all humans are scum....some of us actually love her just because she exists.
Hugs,
Leslie and the gang
