Thanks, ya'll! Squirt wasn't feeling quite herself yesterday so she didn't get her egg like she usually does on her BD. So she got it for an early afternoon snack today and cleaned the plate to a shine!
Then Mom trimmed her nails. She's been miffed ever since. She'll come look in the room where I am, snort and go back to the closet to pout. :p
Tomorrow we wash her nasty face! ;)

Well, well, well....the docs office just called with the latest test results. I have MONO! I'm on the tale end of it but that is what has been wrong with me all this time! I started feeling bad in late Spring 3013 so it has been almost a year. He said there is nothing to do but treat the symptoms and if they get worse, to give him a call. My word....that never entered my mind!

I am sorry to hear that you have mono. A friend of mine had that and every once and a while it comes back. She is easily tired out and not feeling well most of the time. I hope this is not the case with you as you have babies to care for. Hoping your weather is better than ours. Blessings

Squirt stinks. She must have a bath. But I'm not quite sure how to pull this off. I don't her want to get stressed and hurt herself. I lay here last nite and tried to figure out a way to get her cleaned up and think I'm gonna fill my bathtub, which is quite large, with warm water and let her swim in it for a minute. Then, I may put the laundry basket in the tub of water, upside down, so there is a platform for her to stand on. With the basket surrounded by water, she may stand still so I can lather and rinse.
She is slower this week than she has been, seeming to tire more easily. She's also been laying in front of the heater in the mornings when I turn it on in the bathroom which is not at all like her - she's hot-natured like her mom, was even before the Cushing's showed up. :D I noticed yesterday that she was doing a whole lot of squatting outside with very little output...just a drop or two most of the time. I didn't know if it is her mind telling her she needs to pee when she doesn't or if something else was happening now. I left her inside yesterday afternoon and evening so I could get a better idea and she peed BIG on the carpet. It was a nice yellow color so I feel better about that.
We are on a month's sabbatical from the Novifit and I am watching her closely for strengthening of the CCD signs. She's a bit more restless at night but not overly so. And thankfully no signs of those awful terrors.
We are pet-sitting for 3 pups for a week starting this evening, too. I've had two of them before but one is new. That will make NINE dogs in my house! I may end up snagging some of Squirt's Valium before this is over with! :p
Trixie
03-21-2014, 12:19 PM
Wow...nine dogs, you will have quite a crowd. Hope the bath goes well and maybe it will end up being pleasant for Squirt once she gets in the warm water. I heat the towels in the dryer when I bathe Trixie...4 star service just like a fine hotel! :D She doesn't like the bath but will tolerate it. I think she actually enjoys the feeling of the warm towel at the end though...she kind of purrs when I'm drying her with it.
Glad Squirt had a nice puddle and yellow too, even though on the rug...funny what can make Cushings parents happy! Happy to hear she has not been having terrors at night anymore.

Well, just because an idea seems viable in the cold dark hours don't necessarily mean it will translate well into fact in the bright light. :p
She's bathed, the bathroom and I are as wet as she is and the laundry basket was a joke as was the tote (it actually floated! duh). Like it or not, next time she needs a bath she goes somewhere to have it done! She and I both will be down in a few hours from the fight.

Always interesting when it comes to bath time. Molly Hates the process of bathing, seems to like being dried though (I'll have to try the dryer warming with the towels) and then runs around like a crazy thing when it's all over with.
Make sure we get potty break in before bath starts and then she has a nap later when it's all over with.
Lordy 9!!! You brave soul. I'd be stepping on dogs at that rate. hahaha
Good luck, stay strong!

So stopping by to tell you the surgeon said that I am experiencing a tight shoulder capsule which he felt was normal from my fracture and that I need to keep working hard to losen things up ( translate more PT )
So I looked it up and apparently the shoulder capsul can be come tight (borderline frozen shoulder) and it will affect the muscles, tendons and nerves surrounding the shoulder joint.
So if some of the exercises you are doing hurt that may be why. I cannot reach behind my back without severe pain, certaiin joint rotations hurt like heck because of the tight capsul. Some of the stretches hurt in the beginning so now I do them very slowly and it is better.
I hope you recover from Squirt's bath. I was going to mail you a bottle of waterless shampoo I never used.:D:D:D:D:D
Squirt's Mom
03-21-2014, 03:07 PM
Yeah! That's what it feels like for me too! At first I could reach almost to my shoulder blades and now can't reach my waist! I have slowed down on the exercises and doing only the ones that don't hurt right now. If it's not better next week, I'll be back at the docs.

I am glad then bath is over and you both survived. Funny how you think up something, but it just does not pan out how you thought. It is a struggle keeping up with all the trickery etc that has to be used on these babies for a wide variety of reasons. Tipper always loved a bath. Now that her skin is so thin, and she is grouchy about where you touch her it is hard to do as she dislikes it now. Thank God I have a pretty high laundry tub in the laundry room which I'm really warm, and a sprayer hooked up to squirt her off. I put rubber matting on the bottom where she stands, they sell it for shelf liner. It really grips and she sticks to it without slipping. I am trying to wait until it is warmer out one day as she will not tolerate the dryer and I am afraid of her being damp and getting sick some how. Nine dogs? You are one dog wrangler!! Hope Squirty smells good now and you both get rest now. Blessings

As of now, everyone but Squirt is up and has been outside to potty in the rain....well except for Pearl, one of the babies I am sitting. She got up, pottied in the floor then went out and rolled in the mud!:p She was recently adopted from a shelter and we don't know much about her other than she LOVES being outside. She's cute as a bug, too. Prince and Lexi have been here before but not Pearl.
Squirt is still trying to sleep. It was obvious yesterday that she was hurting from the bath so I managed to get a small piece of Tramadol down her before bedtime. She needed help via the sling again yesterday when outside. :( Made me feel like a huge heel for giving her a bath but she smelled like urine. She still leaks and even tho I clean her with a wet cloth each time, she had reached the point she needed a deeper cleaning. For a rickety old broad she sure can put a fight when she's of a mind to!
Wow, Leslie! 9 dogs??!! You are a VERY brave (or crazy) woman! :D When I was reading your bath scheme, it SEEMED like a good idea to me as well. So, what do I know? Sorry it didn't work out as well as you hoped...at least she is now clean! I hope you are starting to feel better, but, you are going to be exhausted by all this pet sitting!
Don't forget to take care of YOURSELF!

Hope Grace is doing well. When does she get the staples out? Do you think she ate some? I think it is wonderful that she got rid of those tumors. When are the results going to be back? How is Squirt doing after the bath? It is snowing as I type this. Blessings

Grace is doing alright tho she has had diarrhea again this week - I bragged that she hadn't had any in a bit so she showed me! :D No she didn't eat any staples - Doc left the place where the ruptured tumor was removed open so it can drain so no staples missing. They will come out early this week.
I have been kicking myself in the rear for giving Squirt that bath. She could barely walk yesterday and last night. She's required the sling since the bath to go outside and potty - she sinking down in it again. :( So I've got to find another way to get the urine off her skin when she needs a more thorough cleaning than a wash cloth or someone to drive us to a groomer - tho that scares the crap outta me. I fear they wouldn't understand how fragile she is in spite of her ability to fight what she does not want.
This tooth is abscessing again so we will be lazy today for sure. I got to go eat lunch with some friends yesterday for the first time in a year I think and really, really, really needed that even tho I didn't get that steak I've been craving! I stuck with soft foods I could eat better but the food was the least of it. I told my friends it was so nice - not once did either one of them bark, whine, or growl at me demanding one thing or the other NOR did I have to clean the floor behind them! :p

Unfortunately I have to watch with the sound muted because Henry is asleep.... just using my imagination from the other comments here.
I use pet wipes to clean the road salt of Henry's legs and find them quite effective, although they're not that much different to a wash cloth. Is there any chance she would tolerate water from a small watering can (the indoor plant sort of thing) - I used one once or twice on Hamish when he got stuff on his fur and it was far less traumatic (for both of us!) than a bath.

re: cleaning, wipes are good. there are also some sprays you can use...spray bath, waterless shampoo and similar names. A few squirts (on Squirt) then wipe lightly with a soft towel. An old trick is a dusting of corn starch, then brush it out.

Leslie,
Toward the end, Buddy had serious neurological issues as well as rear leg weakness. He could no longer balance to lift his leg to pee, but he still tried. He often ended up peeing on himself, which distressed him greatly. This coming from a dog who never had an accident in the house. He always managed to get outside in time. Anyway, I used unscented baby wipes with a small amount of waterless unscented dog shampoo to keep him clean. It worked well and did not bother his allergies. If you wipe them down right afterwards, the urine washes off quite easily. xxxxx

Squirty gets wiped with a sopping wet cloth any time I know she has wet herself. The problems come in when she leaks during the night while we are asleep. Then she lays in it because she doesn't know it happened and it soaks through all three coats of her hair to the skin. Her hair is getting thinner and thinner so the urine gets to her skin faster. By the time we are up for the day, it has dried. I have used the hose on her outside when it was warm and I have a large plastic cup I use to pour water over her inside but after a while, she needs a soaping, or something, to get it all off. I'm gonna look for some dry shampoos and see if they will help. What you have to understand is the Queen does NOT like grooming in any shape form or fashion!:D Wiping her with a cloth is a battle; a full bath is all out war! :p
That Prince is hilarious! He keeps me in stitches when he's here talking to me. He will actually say "Mama". The first time he was here I was in bed and the dogs were in their crates in the LR. It was dark and late when I heard, "Mama. Mama!" FREAKED me out!:p His buddy, that he lives with, is Lexi and she is very timid....she gets depressed when her mom leaves her here and it usually takes a day or so for her to come out and join everyone. Pearl is the other guest; she is young and FULL of mischief! :D But Pearl has been playing with Trink, which ain't easy to do!
My family is on one of the cruise ships that got trapped in Galveston first due to fog then due to another oil spill in the Gulf but they finally got to board the boat yesterday and it did move across the Gulf. Still don't know if they actually get to leave the Gulf or not yet, tho. I told them they were nuts to get on one of those ships anyway and told them to be sure to pack extra buckets.:D:D:p But never dreamed something like this would happen and hope they get to at least see part of what they had planned.

I can sympathise as I had a cairn who hated bath time....
Is there any chance at all she would tolerate a belly band - I don't have any experience with them but I was just reading another post where someone mentioned they helped wick any moisture away from the skin.

Squirt started back on the Novifit for another 60 days today and I'm glad. She was showing more and more CCD signs - standing staring at the walls, getting stuck in corners, more restless at night. It's a bit ahead of time to restart but I hope this helps her like it as so far.
I have also started giving her some Metacam, as much as I hate to. Doc makes a compounded form that is mixed with a liquid beef flavored vitamin and mineral base that he calls Meta-Tinic. The vitamin/mineral base is Lixotinic. She cannot be still for long and it is so obvious she is in pain any time she moves - I couldn't bear to watch it any longer. I have to choose my battles and her pain level is what I am fighting, trying my best to not think of what this will do to her liver. Time with her feels paramount but her comfort is the thing, the only thing, that really matters today.
AND it is time for another nail trim, bless her heart. So sometime today or tomorrow we will have that fight! :p

While there is no question Squirt has cognitive impairment her intelligence is still present. I have been watching her this week as she chose a spot to pee. Several times I have carried her out further so she wouldn't have to hobble around and she would turn and go back to this one certain area. At first I thought it just smelled like HER pee so that is where she thought she should go. This evening I finally understand what she is doing. That area has some raised roots and little dirt mounds. She is using those roots and mounds to put her front legs on so she doesn't have to squat so far to pee. She looks a bit like she is trying to see over the other side of the proverbial mountain! :p

Daisy does something similar. She has arthritis in one back leg so the less she has to squat, the better.

Where I used to live in Pittsburgh there was a slope to my yard. In order for Tipper to pee and it not run on her feet form the slope she learned to do a mini hand stand on her front legs when she pees. She still does it to this day and everyone that sees it laughs and comments on her hand stand. Hope all is well, I am on break from picking Toby up after his dental. I went and saw Delora- lets just say it is pathetic what she has been reduced to in there. WE have weather in the 50's and Tipper has had three walks. I am hoping Squirt is still doing well and Grace is doing better after the tumor removal? How was she at getting the staples out?? Blessings

Molly never raises her leg with the bad joint, she always turns to the other side to lift the other one to pee. Sometimes she'll squat but not often, she thinks she is as alpha as can be. LOL

Back from the doc. Ever had a drunk arm?! :p Weird sensation! He is leaning toward a rotator cuff tear but because the motions I can do and some of the locations for the pain, he is confused. Xray of neck is good and shoulder's is ok - arthritis of course but nothing broken that he can see. So today he gave me a shot in the shoulder that is making it feel very weird; if this takes care of all the pain, then he will send me to the orthopedist. If it doesn't, then something is up with the nerves and we will look further. I am to stop all exercises that engage the muscles of that shoulder and use it as little as possible. He showed me some non-resistant exercises with a broom handle to do to keep them moving yet don't engage them. He will see me again in a month unless this shot doesn't help or things get worse - then I come on in.
As for Squirt, some days she is really tired; today is one of them. We also have some bad weather moving in today so that is having an effect as well. I did get the front nails done but haven't bothered her for the back yet. I planned to today but with her as tired as she is, it can wait plus I don't want to stress her and then she has to face the storms, too. ;)

Leslie, I hope resting your arm combined with the shot you got helps the pain. Those storms can really effect the pets...they sure have a 6th sense when it comes to weather. If they could talk they would be super stars of forecasting!! I hope Squirt is not distressed if any noisy storms roll in.

Why did they have to make a GIANT weta? Couldn't they have just made a tiny one? :-( Beyond gross.
I hope that the exercises help.

AAARRRGGGGHHHHHH!!! Giant Wetas defend themselves?!:eek::eek: Honestly, I hope the "little" boogers thrive on their new island...and STAY on their new island! :p
Squirt is feeling better this morning....until I put her in the truck to go to the groomers to finish her nail trim! :D She was a nervous wreck the whole ride, shaking like mad and repeatedly telling me I was violating her Bucket List. But it's like a10 minute ride to the groomers VS 30+ to the vet so it was over soon and she was on her way back home much calmer. When we got home, she actually pranced, well what is "prancing" for her these days anyway! ;) And she's able to walk with a bit more ease now.
I'm not sure the doc understood exactly what he was telling me when he said not to engage the muscles in this shoulder - unless I TIE it down, they are going to engage! But I am trying to remember not to use it unless I have to....and I forget but the knife pains remind me! ;):D The injection was not uncomfortable at all; he deadened my shoulder with a topical and spray. The needle was HUGE so I was glad for the deadening! Around 8pm last nite the anesthesia in the shot wore off and the injection site was a bit sore. The steroid should kick in sometime late today or tomorrow...and I can't wait to see if it works. I want to be rid of this pain, no question, but don't relish the idea of it being the cuff that is damaged. My doc knows how I am about things and is treating me very conservatively....and will continue to for as long as possible, he promised.
Time to get the tea ready since our storms are to start soon. I bought a NOAA radio yesterday, came home and put batteries in it, then plugged it in and dialed in my station for this area. As I was lying in bed last nite, I started hearing this hissing sound and thought something was wrong with one of the sinks in the bathroom....but it was the batteries in that radio! They were melting and putting off a liquid! I took the batteries out and unplugged the radio then cleaned it up. I don't know if there is something wrong with the radio or the batteries...or if you're not supposed to use both battery and electric sources at the same time, but something was bad wrong! So I'm gonna try to find out if it was my mistake or if I need to exchange this radio.

Leslie:
I have a weather radio and the batteries are not to work at the same time as the electric. They are only for power outages so you can still hear your radio. Maybe the radio is bad and it was using the two power sources together. Did you check the date on the battery pack to see how old they were. Stuff leaking out makes me think defective batteries too? Glad you got Squirts nails done. What is it with these Cush dogs and their toenails?? Tipper growls if you even look at hers! Blessings

Why do we want Giant Weta's again? I mean, I read, 190 million years old, don't want them to die out, etc etc, but why? Do they eat other bugs and are a natural deterrent to spiders or something? Why, why why do we want giant wetas???
Okay rant over. LOL
Hope the shoulder steroid works a charm Leslie. That is so cute that Squirt pranced after creating the whole fuss of going to get her nails done. LOL Women! hahahaha
That really doesn't sound right Leslie, something um..leaking in the radio?! Take that sucker back!

Squirt is doing pretty well. :) She has been experiencing some pretty heavy panting at night but otherwise seems ok. We ran out of the Selegiline about a week ago and her refill hasn't come in yet so she is just on the Novifit now and seems to be the same as when on both. But I'm not sure how long it takes for the effects of the Selegiline to leave her system. The hardest thing for me to watch is her obvious pain. She will not accept any pain meds other than the Meta-Tinic (Metacam) which is hard on her liver. I pulse the Meta-Tinic - a few days on and a few days off - trying to spare the liver as much as possible and still provide a modicum of relief. But she "nips" my feet during meal times and still enjoys her food and outtings and lovings.
We had a bit of excitement around here the last few days. Night before last, I got out of the tub and heard a weird noise in the house. I tracked to the guest bathroom at the other end of the house - a hose had broken under the pedestal sink and water was shooting up the wall about 2 feet! The bathroom floor had about 2 inches of water on it that was pouring down the air vent; the carpet in the hallway and bedroom next to the bathroom was soaked about a foot or two out from the walls. This house has ONE shut off valve that shuts all the water off so we didn't have any water Sat night or most of Sun. Thankfully, I still had water in containers from a bit ago when we were supposed to lose water for a while due to a ruptured water main. I was up most of the nite Sat sopping up water with towels, putting them in the dryer, and sopping up more. A life long friend came over Sun and repaired it for me. What a blessing to be able to get up this morning and FLUSH THE COMMODE! :D The first thing I did when Jerry said it was fixed was run to my bathroom and FLUSH! :p I spent a lot of time Sat cooking and planned to wash all those dishes when I got out of the tub that nite. HA! You should see my kitchen now! It is piled high with things to wash. No hot water last nite so I will be washing dishes and doing laundry all day today. :D Guess I better get busy, huh?

I think we could all write a book about all the mishaps we have all had since starting this journey, and pay for our outrageous vet bills!! We are to be getting rain and thunder any time now. Tipper had her Melatonin and collar on and she was huffing and puffing when the heavy rain started, so I do not see this collar calming her when the thunder starts. Just don't know I am going to do about this, it is very stressful for us both. Hoping Squirt is well and can't hear any thunder if you are having this too. Blessings

Squirt scared me yesterday morning. I woke up to the sounds of her gagging and she vomited that yellow foamy stuff again. Not that this is new for her, it's not and when it happens it is usually in the mornings before she eats, but how she acted after was. I offered a treat like I usually do when she does this just to put something on her tummy and she didn't want it Instead of starting to ask for breakfast like she usually has, she went into her closet and went to sleep. When I started fixing breakfast and the Barkfest started, she didn't come to the kitchen. The bowls were ready to serve and I was just fixin' to go get her when I heard her coming down the hall.
She ate her breakfast and enjoyed it and seemed ok the rest of the day. By lunch, she was nipping my feet again. :p

Glad Squirt's tummy is better, beagles are known for the empty stomach barf, so I am pretty familiar with it. Brando especially. Sometimes I have to coax him when that happens with something better than his usual treat, like a piece of banana or little slice of roast beef or low fat cheese, just to get his appetite going again.
What I do to try and avoid this is to make sure they get a good sized treat right before bed time so they don't go to bed on an empty stomach, it works most of the time.
Hugs! for Squirt :)

Yeah, around 7pm every nite a little crowd starts to gather by the bed, faces anxiously raised, eyes sparkling with anticipation, some with drool hanging, tails held in readiness for the first sign the treats are out and soon in their mouth! :p Squirt just sometimes has this yellow vomit and I think it's from the "empty tummy syndrome", too.

Pleased to hear Squirt is doing well.
As he got older Hamish suffered from the yellow vomit in the mornings if he didn't have a bedtime snack, so I wonder if it's something that cairns are prone to. He often went back to sleep after it happened so I would just wait for him to wake up in his own time then he would happily eat his breakfast. I found giving him a small snack around 10pm helped a lot.

04-26-2014, 02:23 PM
yellow liquid vomit is bile I believe because their stomachs are empty. I give mine their snack at 10-11 pm now. Their breakfast is at 8AM. But still now and then Branny wakes up queasy. I started giving them probiotics prescribed by the integrated medical vet, so maybe that will help with that as well.

Well, this is her week to scare me! She was finishing up her lunch and I looked to be sure she ate it all and saw the bowl with BLOOD in it! I picked her up and there was bright red blood all over her mouth! The fight ensued to look in her mouth and could find nothing at all. Another fight to wash her face off and I haven't seen any more sign of the blood. With her mouth use so weird since the seizure, I wonder if she bit her tongue a good one. I tell ya, this promise of no more vet visits is getting harder and harder to keep. :(
Yeah, Patti, it's supposed to get really bad here later today, tonight and in the morning hours. I have been clearing out a bedroom closet and have two crates stacked in there for Sophie and Fox. The hall closet is emptied for Squirt, Trink and I. I don't have a "safe" place large enough for us all to stay together. :( Now I have to get Trink's food made and the meds, etc. gathered. We can go to my brother's who lives in a house but he is in the middle of tornado alley and his area has been hit more often than mine. So I'm not sure if we will stay here in the mobile home and tough it out or go to Mark's later today. It's such an ORDEAL to pack everything and everyone up!

Thanks, ya'll. It is heartbreaking here in my state and now in Mississippi and Alabama. I haven't heard about Tennessee yet but my friends in the NW portions of TN are ok. The death toll in AR started at 16 then was backed up to 14 as two bodies were counted twice. The last I heard last night the count was back up to 15. Responders are still calling this a rescue effort as they dig further into these towns hit so very hard. I hope the count stops at 15. Several are dead in MS and AL but I don't know how many. We are getting spotty info from those states due to the heavy coverage of ARK.
In case you missed my post on Grace's thread - a friend has donated dog food to the ARK tornado dogs in Grace's name.

Hope this is all past you now. Wonder what's up with Squirt throwing up?? I have put Tipper's thundershirts on her for over a month when there was no threat of bad weather. She wore them just fine as she is used to wearing clothes, and coats etc. The just did nothing when the storm came. After researching this for a loooong time I kept seeing Ltryptophan and Valerian. Do you know how much and what type would be used. This is the only thing I have not tried. The vet does not want to give Tipper Valium. I can't say I blame him as he knows how allergic she is to stuff, and said they are not good for dogs which I already knew. Same old argument, different week. I am going to post the information on my thread that I got during the research. God Bless Dear Grace.

Don't know about tryptophan but be careful with Valerian root. It is classed as a nervine but it is a nervine that has BOTH sedative and stimulant actions. It works as a stimulant in me and in the only dog I have tried it with. I used it to help him calm down in general as he was uber hyper and he went BONKERS for hours instead. So that is one herb I have put out of my apothecary and rarely consider using. ;)
I use Passionflower and Skullcap with success in all my babies who need it along with melatonin. They get the melatonin in cheese balls and the herbs in a tea over their food. Research carefully to be sure whatever you try won't interfere or interact negatively with any of her meds.

Odd you should ask as I was just coming to share what I saw this morning. Squirt was laying on the floor asleep where I could see her out of the corner of my eye. She suddenly started having what I first thought was convulsions - her abdomen was coming up off the floor in rapid repetitions. I shoved the computer back and yelled her name - and she raised her head and gagged as if she was going to vomit again, but didn't. Her feet were moving as if dreaming but the belly action was much more evident than in her usual dreams when she makes sounds during them like little yelps, barks, etc. She's awake and hasn't acted as if anything is bothering her. I wonder if she felt nauseous and was heaving in her sleep - which scares the crap outta me. If she vomits in her sleep she may aspirate on it.
She got treats last nite and will again very shortly, then breakfast. I may start feeding her a lite meal later in the nite to see if that helps. There is no telling what's behind this, tho - liver, a tumor or cancer, gall bladder, tummy....and it worries me no end. But I won't put her through a bunch of tests and certainly not surgery so I will just have to remain curious and worried. And trust her to tell me when enough is enough.
She IS going to the groomer this morning for the nail battle, tho. :D The whole gang is going. I will wait on her and Brick to get trimmed and bring them back home with me - I won't leave them but the others will be there to work on through the day. Trink is getting a summer cut, and I am sure she will be much happier with their results than with the usual cut she gets from Mom with scissors. :p

Poor little Squirt - I hope it's nothing serious.
I'm not sure if what you're describing is similar to something I saw from Hamish a few times when he was asleep - he would be fast asleep on his side and would yelp, feet would move, etc. then his chest would heave very violently quite a few times followed by yelps / barks. We used to leave him and he would be fine afterwards.

Wow, that would have been a tad terrifying to see. Hopefully she wouldn't have vomited in her sleep. Do dogs normally vomit in their sleep? I'd think that gag reflex would wake them up?
Maybe she was just having an upset stomach, which they say can happen from acid build up over night and then the best thing to do is to do just what you plan. Give a bit of food at night before they go to sleep!
Bet they all come home looking nice and spiffy with the new "do".

Yeah, they all did quite well! Sophie was the only brat, taking two to hold her for a simple trim!:D Trinket looks SO CUTE with her cut (pics in her album ;)) and I can plainly see the Pom in her now. Don't know why I couldn't before but there you have it! :p Brick was MUCH calmer than he is when the vet does it so he will be going back for sure for his next trim. Fox has the sweetest little face and stole everyone's heart right away to a chorus of "awwws". :D Since I was the "400th" customer, the male groomer kindly "gave" me the owner's Poodle, who absolutely HATES him. I asked what he did wrong and he said, "Breath." LOLOL :p:p:p
I decided to back up their lunch and supper time by one hour starting today. Then if she is still having tummy issues more often than I would like, I'll back supper up another hour. Bedtime treats will come later, too.

Surprise! The "adventures" continue at our home! First this abscess is coming back for the 7th or 8th time - after a while the count just doesn't matter. ;):) So I'll be picking up more ABs today....if I can get there. :o During the bedtime treat session last nite, I almost stepped on Brick when I turned around and landed on the floor again but THANKFULLY missed him. That was my very first thought but he was the very first one in my face, kissing away. My sweet, sweet boy! Sophie thought it was a neat new game and jumped on my belly. :p Once again I can barely move but did not land on my right shoulder, thank goodness. I had a followup appt on it Wed and it is 89% improved...or was. Doc is pretty sure I have nerve damage in my neck and this morning I couldn't argue that if my life depended on it.
Squirt has not had any more of the tummy heaving that I have seen and I really think it was nausea in her sleep. She stopped the action when I hollered her name and I just don't think that would happen if it was another seizure. She was really determined last nite when 4 pm came and went with no supper, tho! I saw that Terrier trait very clearly again. :D I had no intention of trying to read her mind that hour we waited, nope, none at all! :p But she was quite pleased with the extra treats at bedtime so maybe I have been forgiven.

My God you are having a time getting hurt and all. I hope you are ok! Good to hear Squirt had no more episodes like you saw. It is so scary, as you never know what is going on with these babies on the inside. I know one thing, your love has kept Squirt with you thru thick and thin, and she is the luckiest baby to have you for a mom. All your babies are lucky. Blessings

Oh gosh Leslie, do be careful. These abscesses knock on you on your tush Literally!!! LOL Seriously, you have to not over do it when you have one of these things. Anyway they can take care of it so it doesn't come back?
Well, you delayed the Queens dinner for an hour. Wow, brave!! I might be shaking in my boots at the looks she must have been sending your way! hahahaha

Yes, the game plan is to have a root canal and save this tooth when I can. As long as the bone stays in good shape, that is possible and it is still good with this tooth. I hate missing Brianna's graduation today but I just can't go. It would be an 8-12 hour ordeal with the family events included - more than I can tackle today. :( I was not comfortable leaving the babies for that long even with someone coming over to watch out for them but had made plans to attend anyway. Bri understands as does Mark so I don't feel tooo guilty. ;)
Yeah, by 5pm yesterday the Queen actually BARKED at me! It's been so long since I've heard her bark, it startled me! LOL But boy did that put a fire under my butt and get me in the kitchen. :p She is very happy with the extra treats at night, tho, so maybe she won't have me beheaded!

God help us we have rolling thunder and as loud as can be. Tipper ran to the closet. I got a small fan out and aimed it in the closet so she is not hot. Oh my gosh, tooth problems and falling over!! Poor you, you need someone to come take care of you for a bit Leslie! Hope your feeling ok and not too sore. Glad you missed the babies and how cute is that Brick kissing it all better, sweet boy! Oh and Squirt has found her bark!! LOL funny when they do that when it is not expected. Yesterday at the vet the poor boy had to starve until after his scan. As soon as he came back to the waiting room I got his lunch ready for him, as soon as he saw it he gave one real loud WOOF!! Like hurry up already and it started me too, the other dogs waiting were all like what was that for ahhhh food, then one wanted his lunch and a little Scottish Terrier stole his blanket... never a dull moment! Feel better xx

Hope you are doing better. Have you ever used the extract from skullcap or passionflower? I just wondered if that is a good alternative to the powder and less waste? I didn't give any herbs yesterday, but that is a good point. I will keep an eye out for that, glad you told me. It seems like the Benadryl is making a bigger impact on this mucous from what I am hearing right now, but bedtime will be the real test, if she sounds better then I may switch products. I do know that Benadryl cash lower their blood pressure, but Tipper is in a good range now so I don't see that being an issue as it can't lower it that much. Blessings

Oh Leslie - hope you get the tooth sorted out, and have fully recovered from your fall. Please do take care of yourself.
Pleased to hear that Squirt is keeping you on your toes ;) That reminded me of Hamish as a few years ago I was booking a vacation rental and the owner asked if he barked a lot - No, I said, in fact I haven't heard him bark for at least a year. Certainly can't say the same for Henry :p

Well if you have to fall it's nice to have someone kiss it and make it better. :p Sweet Brick for being such a caring pup!
Hope the tooth will calm down until you can get it fixed with the root canal. ugh. Everyone always makes a big deal about getting them..I don't think they actually hurt so much except for in the wallet!! Not to mention they are time consuming!
How about that Squirt sounding off..seems like good news to me!!

Squirt is tired. She wouldn't eat her treats last nite nor breakfast this morning. She had a bit of loose stool last nite as well. She seems weaker this morning as well, having more difficulty moving around, which she isn't doing much of at all. She simply lays in the floor. I will give her today to feel better and start eating, then I will start syringing food and water again.
She said she would give me a clear sign when she was ready...but I don't know if this is it or not so we will see what the day brings.

Squirt lay on the bed beside me until around 2pm. She wanted up, got a drink of water on her own, went out to pee (with support), then lay in the kitchen floor. She ate a little supper around 3:30 and is asleep again. She is very tired and weak, unable to stand or walk on her own for long, and unable to hold her head up for long. But she is still with me and I remain her humble servant for as long as I am allowed to serve my Queen.

Guardian Angel of Pets
Hello. I've been expecting you for quite some time.
Here, come sit beside us for awhile .
and let me tell you about this old friend of mine.
She might look tattered or maybe old
But I won't say goodbye until you've been told.
She had the brightest eyes I had ever seen,
And wore a beautiful fur coat that would out shine a queen .
She was never prissy but walked with an aire ......
And oh so polite, you could take her most anywhere.
She could run like the wind and could catch anything she chased
But she protected and sat with me when I had problems to face.
You could not find a friend nearly so dear.
Because no matter the trouble she always stayed near...
She has never asked for much from me;
Just to love and respect her and I think you'll agree .
To give her a good meal plus a nice warm bed is not much to ask
When she has given me all her love and to her this was no task.
Now I understand you have a schedule to keep.
But I have a small favor before she nods off to sleep.
Please fold your wings around her and let her feel young while in no pain.
Dear Guardian Angel of Pets,
please keep her safe and happy until I see her again.
By Ginger Patton
Unless she leaves on her own before then, Doc will be coming to the house around 10am tomorrow to help Squirt cross.
My Queen and I thank you for all the years of your support and love. We would have never made it this far without you.
For you, Sweet Bebe -

Fly free our Queen Squirt and watch over your momma, she is going to need to feel your love surrounding her.
Leslie, my heart goes out to you. I am so sorry, but what a life she had eh. That girl she just had personality out the ying yang. All the best ones do you know. That is what makes their loss so huge! They leave a hole that seems to encompass the universe because their personalities were that big. They couldn't be contained and Squirt was certainly that. The way she would talk to you and nudge you to say, hey, hurry it up mom, I'm hungry. Or where have you been, it's been ages since you walked out the door. She said what was on her mind, that girl did. She made me laugh so many times with her antics and I loved to hear the stories of what she was up to and hated it so much when she felt down and had off days. It made your breath catch in your chest and then up she would rally and some new adventure in her life would happen. Today is the beginning of Squirts new adventure.

Leslie, this poem gives me a lot of comfort. I love the Rainbow Bridge Poem, But this poem Loss of a Heart is to remind us they never really left us: I hope you receive some comfort from it.
The Loss Of A Heart
I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep...
I could see that you were crying. You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear.
"It's me, I haven't left you. I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour your tea.
You were thinking of the many times, your hand reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to hold your parcels, I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your keys.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "it's me."
You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me, to be near you everyday.
To say with you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over.. I smile and watch you yawning...
and say "Goodnight, God Bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out... then come home with me.
Author unknown...
I am so very sorry, Leslie. My heart breaks with yours.

I am so very sorry for your loss - I wish you strength and peace during this tremendously difficult time.
Someone said to me recently that we always know we will outlive our dogs but it doesn't make it any easier when we do. It made me think about how remarkable it is that, despite knowing they will be with us for a relatively short period of time, we throw all our defenses aside and love them boundlessly - just the way they love us.

So sorry to hear of Squirt's passing Leslie. I just saw on an email. She had a great life. You were a great mother to her, and I'm sure you have lots of memories of her. She is with her Sissy and I'm betting my Lulu has greeted her too.

Yeah that's what I do too, just wonder around and scream a lot. Walk the dark streets at 2am. Looking at the sky wondering if she can see me. Is she out there? Knowing this is going to hurt for a very long time. Just looking, hoping for some sign or some answer. Maybe I see her in the distance way in front of me. Then I hear two clicks and a man goes by on a bike. Behind him are two dogs off the leash. Thier fur seems to light up in a bright gold color. Their eyes never stray from their master. Angel dogs. 8::::::::: LESLIE!
