Hi Patti and Iris! I was gone yesterday....most of it anyway. Went to lunch in Bowling Green with my daughter, and shopping. Got some new dog food for Eli...Freshpet. It's in the refrigerated dept of the dog store. I was actually looking at the raw frozen dog food for him. Boy, it that expensive! I've always let Eli troll and eat when he wanted...since he always ate hard food. He never seemed to like canned food before. With Betsy, she only ate canned food, and would starve before she ate the hard food. So, since Eli has to eat before taking his pill, I've been giving him chicken mixed with the Blue kibble. Tuna sucks anymore...so I'm not giving him anymore of that. So, I was going for the raw food. He loved the burger. But, boy is that expensive! It's 5 star.but costs something $46. for 5 pounds. So, I backed down and checked and checkout out the Freshpet...also a little pricey.but he loved it this morning...I mixed a little with kibble and chicken. He gobbled it all down! :D It looks like a winner! ...Day 12 of pills....and he's still doing OK...but I can see he'll have to be boosted up to a higher dose. The only changes are less peeing and drinking...and some eating. He's always been a beggar...but he's not eating he comes in contact with....or nappping by his food bowls anymore.

Still storming in PA? Yikes! That's awful!! Poor Tipper! I talked to one of my girlfriend in California and she's on odd/even rationing for water now. If your address is an even number, you water on Mon, Wed, and Saturday....and so on. :( .....Maybe you could send some over to them? Or Iris? .....It rained some here yesterday....It least it dropped the temps from 93 to 84 at the speed of light! :D We sure needed that!!

They're still trying to find a relative to bury the neighbor. I guess they're keeping him in a morgue at the hospital. Sad.....his dad and sister didn't want him. :( He wasn't married to the woman he lived with and she can't do anything. ...Things never get boring around here.....that's for sure!

Hi JoAnn:
I often wondered about that Fresh Pet. What kind of meat is it made out of? When Tipper gained weight and I was looking to find a different diet for her I wondered about that, but wasn't sure if it was high calorie food or not. That is good that he likes it right off. We had a lite rain, and another storm is expected tonite. I am not medicating Tipper yet until I am sure. I worked inside today, and made a big pot of soup. I gave some to my elderly neighbor who loves soup. It will be easy with a grilled cheese. You always have some excitement in that building of yours! That poor man, his family does not want him? What is wrong with people? I will take my friend Delora some soup to the nursing home, she hates their food. Blessings

In my experience, I haven't found a dog yet that doesn't love Freshpet. Unfortunately, it is pretty high in fat so it was never an option for my cushdogs nor my two Maltese boys who are predisposed to pancreatitis.

Hi Patti, Yea, Eli does love it. It is higher in fat than the Blue Buffalo. Here's the food content from dog food advisor. I got the mixed one, with beef, chicken, salmon and eggs. .....although, the nutrient content isn't from the one that I got. It's a five star dog food..high protein.but also kind of high in fat, as Gynda pointed out.

http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/freshpet-select-slice-serve

Darn, Gynda....I thought I found a winner. :( Looks like I'm back to the drawing board.

I already use one of these...the Blue Buffalo Healthy Weight Adult....now to find a soft something....I'm hoping for a raw (or something like Fresh Pet with a lower fat content) to give him to mix with his hard food in the morning. I may email the IMS tomorrow and she whats she suggests something. I've tried giving Eli canned before and he turned his nose up to it...but he loves raw beef. :)

Here's a list of suggested low-fat foods from Dog Food Advisor. http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/best-dog-foods/suggested-low-fat-dog-food/

hi jo ann, my dogs and cat are on raw food since they were puppies/kitten.
as long as eli is not suffering from pancreatitis and is doing well on this food, i would give it to him.
in the beginning you can mix it with his other food and later on you can feed only this.
but since he has to lose weight, you can give him less than the amount advised on the package.
as long as it is a complete mix. [you can read it on the package]
he loved the raw ground beef you fed him too i remember, and that went ok didn't it?
in my country lots of people feed raw food to their pets.
you can even buy it [much cheaper] in the supermarket.
i did not change anything food wise since i found out about the cushing's with flynn or ian.
but they never showed any sign of pancreatitis.

Hi JoAnn:
I guess it's back to the drawing board for you. I just feed Tipper Fromm Senior Reduced diet with some white meat chicken breast. There are a lot of choices out there to make things even more confusing!! We are starting into yet another storm!! Blessings

Hi Patti and Iris! We just had a storm pass through here too! Eli still had to pee, so he didn't mind it a bit...it rained on both our heads. Then when I took him out awhile ago, the fireworks started...so that was out! :(

Eli loved the raw beef...and I still give him some. I planned to keep him on the Blue Buffalo during the day ....it's out for him if he wants to eat....which now he usually doesn't eat much at all. I give him breakfast though with his pill and mix in chicken breast, with a little broth so he'll eat the hard food as well. But, lately, he's picking out the chicken and leaving the dog food now. ...So, today I mixed in the some chicken, a little Freshpet, and BB and he ate it all. So, I'll need something again in low fat. I like the raw. I've read up on it....and it's really good for them....and also comes in low fat versions. Iris..Some grocery stores here have it...only those stores where I live are 35 miles away. But, that shouldn't be too big a problem.....since I do go to Bowling Green once a month anyway. <sigh> So, yes, it's back to the drawing board again. LOL Like you said Patti.....so many to choose from. Not too many though in the raw frozen versions.if I can find a cheaper price besides the pet shop. Eli does really well on the raw...and loves veggies and fruit anyway. When he was sick...it was raw beef that he really gobbled down and he did fine. At least with the raw dog food already prepared you don't have to add the extra vitamins and minerals. :D I have to go when I'm alone too....so I can take my time and look. I usually read that dog food advisor and try to research some on them.

I hope those storms aren't too bad, Patti. We're expecting them all week here too!

No, Eli, so far doesn't have Pancreatitis....but, I know a high fat diet can cause it, especially in cushpups. :(

In case it helps I just started using chewy.com for Henry's food - if the order is over $50 they deliver for free, and under $50 is a flat $4.95. I think it took around 4 days for the first order and I'm currently waiting to hear about the second one (I ordered Sunday night).

I saw them recommended on another pet site and their prices are comparable to the store I was using previously, but which was sometimes a bit low on stock.

I've used chewy.com the last couple of months, too, and they've been very prompt and with better prices than my local stores. I kinda hate to take the business away from the locals, but I was encountering stocking issues, too. Plus, every dollar saved is a help when it comes to feeding my two big girls!

Hi JoAnn:
Good Eli is at least eating his food though after what her went thru. Have you looked on Amazon? Sometimes you can get free shipping. I never looked to see if they sold raw, but I am sure they do, if it is on their autoship you can save even more and free shipping. We got the storm last nite with a vengeance!. Today just rain so I am not taking Tipper for blood pressure as it will be a waste of time. Blessings

MC, What food are you ordering? Marianne...too...what are you getting? Are you both feeding raw too? Inquiring minds need to know? :D

Patti...Eli is getting so rotten now with his wonderful "breakfast" ...that at night, he's now waiting for another meal, "dinner"...while lying on his kibble...that he no longer seems to notice. ..<sigh>

At least it's in the high 80's here this week. Still trying to rain. It's a nice break for a change. One of my son's works on a zip line...I have no clue how he stand this heat all day!

I got a catalog today in the mail and they had freeze dried all natural food that makes a lot. Maybe you could go on the website and see if it is what you want. the site is Onlynaturalpet.com and the food is Only Natural Pet Easy Raw. Hope it helps somehow. Wow your son must be roasting. It finally stopped raining here! Blessings

I have been feeding my dogs My Perfect Pet for the last four or five years. I've yet to see any dog not chow down on it. It's lightly cooked, all organic, antibiotic free, restaurant grade ingredients. It's highly digestible so I started buying this in California for my chronically ill dogs and rescues. Their only distributors are in California and Arizona but you can buy through their boutique, www.5thavenuedog.com I live in the mountain in AZ and the closest retailer who carries this food is over 100 miles away so I order online and I receive it within 24 hours. They do a great job of packing and it arrives frozen solid. They put the frozen food in a cardboard box. That box then goes into a styrofoam chest which goes into another cardboard box.

I have a friend who is in the pet food business in CA and he never carried any food until he checked out the facilities. He visited My Perfect Pet and was very impressed. I found a video (url below) that shows their facility, some of their processes and the quality of their ingredients is amazing. It's not inexpensive, especially when you are feeding four or five dogs. They carry special blends for dog who are diabetic, prone to pancreatitis and dogs prone to bladder stones. They can also make a special blend for you upon request.

I thaw the food in the reefer and let it sit out just a few minutes to take the chill off, break it up in a bowl and it's gone in 30 seconds.
No, I'm not a shill for My Perfect Pet. I'm just very, very happy with their food and was thrilled to discover they ship overnight nationwide.

Hi JoAnn:
I hope you found a dog food. The Perfect Pet must be yummy as Glynda said they lap it up quick. Thank goodness no storm last nite so I am glad I did not pill Tipper. It is cooler this morning with some fog. The dogs have walked and the cooler temps agree with Tipper. I hope you and Eli have a good day. He is quite a little stinker eating the chicken out of the dog food and leaving the kibble! He knows how to work things! Just happy he is well. He probably will need his medicine tweaked as you said. Blessings

Yikes! Sorry, everyone! I haven't been reading the board for awhile. I've had company and some things to get done. Oh! And, a new great-grandson! :D So, we've just been busy.

Eli's doing fine....except scared to death of everything. :( A lady had to move downstairs to a nursing home and her kids left some boxes in the hall next to the elevator and I had to drag him out of it....to take take him out. He is scared of anything different in the hallway. Ugh! Fireworks are going on..so I can't take him out after 7...he's terrified. But, he will hold it until morning. That's good anyway. ....

Otherwise....all is well on the southwestern (?) front! LOL

Thanks for the dog food links. I haven't had a chance to check them out yet. I appreciate the help! Looking for the right food sure is challenging!!!

Take care to day as we are to have tornado weather here. Glad Eli is ok. He acts identical to Tipper she has become frightened of everything different and any type of noise. She is on alert here as the weather is looking bad outside. It is so hot and humid she does not even want to go out to potty. Congratulations on the new grandson. Blessings

Glynda, So, you get 42 bars total. How much is the shipping? .....Actually, if I'm mixing it with some kibble, I could stretch it some. Luckily, Eli only weights 30 lbs. That Freshpet was like $12 for a 2lb roll. I mix that with Chicken breast or ground beef and kibble. ....

those prices are ridiculous 12 dollars for only 2 pounds????
there must be a cheaper brand of raw food rolls i think.
over here you can buy 3 rolls for that price.
i am sorry that eli is scared of everything.
so he can hold it from 7 pm till the next morning, i know i can not..............ha, ha!
have you met your great grandson already?
or is he living far away?
congratulations!

Iris, you wouldn't believe the prices for the 5 star dog food here! It's higher than Filet Mignon! No lie! The one Glynda is talking about is ...$6.42 a lb. if I figured it right. (My math is questionable) Hamburger here is over 5 dollars a pound...a chicken is $5.00. I think I need to start playing the lottery or maybe find a husband.....probably the lottery is my best bet! Haha! :D:D:D

Thank you! I haven't seen the new baby yet, except for pictures. My granddaughter can't stay home long enough! Kids these days....I don't get them at all! They just bundle up the new born and life goes on...and then wonder why the kid gets sick later. I guess maybe I can catch her at the 1st b/d party! She actually doesn't live too far down the road..a couple of miles, perhaps. I only have one (prodigal) son that lives about 50 miles from me, out of the 4.

Patti, Eli, plays me like a fine violin! Two nights already with the fireworks....he wouldn't go out for me...but would go out for the neighbor. (Not the one though who STILL thinks he's contagious and will kill her ugly, old cat if she touches him!) But, another one who knows better. :D I still have to drag him off the elevator at night. :( This morning he woke me up at 5....then thought he was going to refuse to go past the car to the grass to pee......but I made him anyway.....he FINALLY gave him. <sigh> I think he needs another 10mg of Vetoryl! :D

Glynda, that dog food sounds AWESOME!! I'm going to try some out as soon as I can. Meaning.....I'm going to pay my bills and see what I have left. I'm still paying on my Vet bill. I can stretch it mixing it with the Blue Buffalo and some chicken. (I've actually spent half that some months on treats back in day at the pet food store....buying in bulk the baked treats.) :( I am looking at the "Hunter's Blend" http://www.5thavenuedog.com/store/hunters-blend.html How much was the shipping for you?

Isn't it horrid the price of food these days, especially meat. I am definitely trying to buy local as much as possible. If I can get things from within the province (state) then they don't have to figure in as much for shipping and if you can find a producer that doesn't use, steroids in their herds or contaminants on their crop fields then that is even better.

My vets office carries Natures Choice I think it is raw food and treats. Price is pretty high there though.

That Eli, he has some definite thoughts of his own about what might be lurking around corners doesn't he. He must have a vivid doggie imagination. I notice that even when molly is having a fear of something or other, that if she sees other people out or other dogs, then she is more liable to set her fears aside of go for it than if she is on her own with just me.

hugs,

Hi Sharlene! I see you had a good trip!! That's great!! :D I almost feel like I can't go anywhere and leave Eli since he won't eat and gets all depressed. I guess I spoiled him too much? I've only left him with one of my granddaughter's and now she's working, and then that was over a year ago. My one neighbor who's in the wheelchair would take care of him if she could, but she has a REALLY bad heart (thus the wheel chair) and can't walk him....and he won't stay with the other kids. :(

Everything has just shot up so high! I would like to be able to buy here if I could, but the option is just not here. Living in this small town has nothing to offer. Outside of cheaper Vet bills then in the city, and zero traffic jams....there's not even a large grocery chain, outside of WalMart. There are plenty of things that they don't carry that another does, but it's 35 miles from here. I just drove 40 miles to buy a good bra. That's not an exaggeration either. I drive 100 miles to my doctors in Nashville. I don't trust them here at all! I'd have better luck with the Vet! ...

Even the jobs aren't good here. My son's work out of state or out of town. One drives 400 miles to get to work who drives truck. He comes home on the weekend. The other owns his own truck, but still drives out of southern Illinois. My youngest son works out of town, but is home every night. ...The girls also work out of town. So, this isn't the most convient place. <sigh> How they ended up here....I have no clue anymore! LOL I, unfortunately, followed them from California! LOL :o

Eli didn't used to be scared of anything. Now, since he's been sick....he's scared of everything! New people, more than a few people in the hall, new sights......things out of place outside our apartment.....you name it..he's freaked out! :( If he hears or sees something or someone before he gets off the elevator, he refuses to get out of it. I have to coax him and finally have to hold his front end and drag him out. Then he can see it's OK....and he relaxes again. <sigh> ...I'm thinking once he's on a higher dose of Vetoryl,.....which I can tell he's going to need anyway, he'll be OK again. Hopefully.

P.S. Yikes! I forgot! We don't have any stores that carry the good cold dog or raw dog food. The good stuff I have to order online. Same as I do anything else I buy good.....even for myself! Shoes, purses, clothes, etc. Unless, I happen to be in Nashville or Louisville with a friend on a spree (which isn't often) for that purpose or if I happen to be visiting my Brother in Huntsville, Alabama. :( I only wish I could have the money back that I've spent on shipping back and forth! :( Double yikes!!

I know I went to the grocery on the way home from seeing Delora and the beef prices are astronomical!! I was in shock. How can the normal person afford this? I feel for you as I am no longer working either and it makes things real rough. Maybe look at that dehydrated one I mentioned to you as it makes really a huge amount and may be cheaper and it is all made for you. Eli and Tipper are like two peas in a pod, scared to death of everything now. It's a shame how this happens to them. Tipper is really pitiful when I think of how strong she used to be. I thank my lucky stars every day for her. We just came from the vets and she got her Adequan. Hope it is not too hot and muggy there as it is here. Blessings

Gee, here we are talking about the price of meat and I had to stop by the store to pick up some hamburger and sure enough, it had gone up in the past week even more!!! I was ready to have heart failure, like 7.49 for 500grams. That is about a pound and just over a bit.

Hi everyone! The fireworks got nasty last night for Eli. :( He quit going out about 5:15 (although there were fireworks all day) we happened to hit it about the right time in between shots. :D As soon as they would start again, it was kind of like hit and run! Poor guy! He held it until 7:30 this morning! ...I'm sure they'll be more today. :(

Thanks Glynda! I did figure it right then. I think it said each bar was 1/2 a pound. So, that would be 21 pounds of food? Correct? Not too bad if mixed with kibble and other meat. Although, Eli is starting to pick out the good stuff and not really eating the kibble that much anymore. Which blend do you suggest?

Patti, How is Tipper doing? It's been rather cool here. Eli loves it, but I'm not especially fond of it myself. I also looked at the dehydrated and found some pretty good stuff also a 5 star....and also expensive. :( You can order samples bags of the different kids for a $1...and they also have a base....where you can add the meat. That's not bad...but also expensive....but a thought. It costs for a 10 pound box, which it said would last 6 weeks for a 30 pound dog....$99.99. Wow! Still high! But, shipping was free. ....You better believe these cushpups are expensive to say the least! Wow! I'm just getting Eli's Vet bill caught up for another go-round soon. He's almost finished with a month of pills already! Even though my ACTH Stim's are cheap....and the meds are about average......and this time I'm sure he'll be taking more..I'll have to order the 10mg and then whatever they up it to. ....I see another few hundred dollars at the Vet's in our future. Not that I begrudge Eli at all! I would spend it all over again on him if I had too! But, the money is really hard to come by when on a fixed income and it's only me. Yikes!

Iris! I wish they thought that way here about the raw food. They really take advantage of people when they think they can.......and do. :( I'm glad you and the babies are doing well. It's been cool here for this week anyway.

Sharlene, I know!! The price of meat here is awful as well! I really don't get it since there's beef running around all over the place. It really doesn't make much sense to me anyway! I think just plain old ground beef is 4.99 a pound anymore. I remember, it doesn't seem so long ago, that it was 1.99 a pound. I guess those days are long gone! :(

I do know there a Dollar Tree I can get Eli bags of Salmon for $1 a piece. That may be good for now anyway. Beef does pretty far too...browned and all mixed together with his kibble. When he's really hungry he might not pick out the good stuff. LOL He's so bad.

still pretty hot and sticky.

I buy Boomers Blend and Hunters Blend. My mom's dog has had two bad bouts of pancreatitis so she buys the Snuggles Blend. You don't have a choice of buying a variety pack but you can send them an email and tell them that you will be purchasing and would like an assortment. I buy half Boomers and half Hunters. My dogs also love the Roxy's blend but lamb seems to be a bit too rich for my old girl, Sophie.

Hi Sharlene! Yes, it's been awful since before the 4th! But, as soon as the 4th came and went, you wouldn't know it was over here.....these idiots around here kept on blasting away. The 5th sounded as bad as the 4th! I finally put Eli on the couch with me where he seemed a little more relaxed, but jumped every time a bottle rocket blasted off! For 2 days I could get him outside to pee after 5PM. :( He's hold it until morning. Finally last night I literally had to drag him out the door and down into the yard about 11:15PM, because he was so terrified at night. Luckily, nothing went off to his surprise and all went well! :D

Yikes! I'll have to get offline right now! :( Severe thrunderstorm warnings. A storm is moving in right now. Got to go..

Iris...I'll answer your message shortly or in the morning.

Hope the storms pass soon and don't leave any damage behind.
Also hope that the fireworks are exhausted soon. We only had one display on July 1 and Henry hated them - I tried to ignore them as I don't want him to be scared but he barked and barked so I had no choice but to try distracting him, etc.

We had Hurricane Arthur over the weekend - fortunately we only lost one tree and had no loss of power but a lot of others have been less fortunate and they are saying they may not get power until Wednesday  Unfortunately it only reduced the silly heat by a few degrees (was 36C feeling like 40C, now 28C feeling like 35C) so I am counting down to Winter.

glad, that eli is enjoying his raw food.
and for not eating his kibble anymore....smart dog!
he sure knows what is best for him!
are the fireworks over and does eli wants to walk again?
i hope so.

Hi Iris! I haven't bought it yet, but I do give him raw burger still and finishing the Freshpet..but then lately I started noticing his kibble (Blue Buffalo) all around his bowl...then one day I actually watched him get a bunch of food in his mouth, lay it down on the rug, and actually pick out what he wanted and left the kibble behind. He's spoiled rotten anymore......then after he eats his breakfast..he actually waits for his "dessert", which is his pill in cheese with pineapple. ...He doesn't have a clue. LOL I'm going to try The Perfect Pet dog food that Glynda is talking about. It's expensive, but here in the US anything that's good is going to be expensive. Good thing Eli is fairly small at 30 pounds. He still needs to lose about 8 pounds of that! ...

Eli did take a walk yesterday for awhile. The fireworks have pretty much stopped. But, I noticed they are still selling them. :( Last night was a really bad storm, so we couldn't go out either. Even Eli whose not really afraid of storms, probably thought it was the mother of all fireworks......resorted to the bathroom. Poor guy! Today, we're expecting another at some point!

I hope Ian and Enya are doing OK. I'll try and send some storms your way. It actually got cooler here.....in the high 70's. Nice! :)

If it isn't storms it is firecrackers. Really they are still selling them??! good grief.

Eli has some definite opinions on what he likes and doesn't like for food I guess. Molly has been known to pick her kibble out for a bit. Then later I will make a game of throwing the kibble at her to attack. Eventually she'll eat a piece, then another, then go to her bowl when i walk away and eat the rest of it.

we had a cooler day with drizzle today [we loved it!] and tomorrow too, but after that.....hot again!
oeps, 8 pounds to lose, fitness and a diet it is for poor eli.....
hope you can have some good, longer walks while the temp. are down a bit.

Hi MC! :) FINALLY the fireworks have come to an end! YAY!! Eli is terrified, but he doesn't bark at all........ever for that matter. He used to bark occasionally at odd sounds in the hall, but I haven't even heard him bark for that.

Yikes! I forgot about Hurricane Arthur and you all being in that line! I've been so absorbed with these stupid fireworks. I hope you are all OK.....storms are all still up your way too?

It's actually been much cooler here. In the high 80's, but cooler in the mornings. I try to get taken care of early and hibernate in the afternoons. LOL Today though, they're having a bar-b-que outside for some reason or another. I usually don't like to go....but, what the heck!

Eli goes for his 30 day ACTH Stim tomorrow. I imagine he'll have dosage upped some. We're ready this time. I think even 20 mg would be OK....but we'll have to wait and see what his numbers are and what the IMS suggests. We've been doing 10 mgs.

I hope you are all doing OK and staying dry, cool and safe!

So pleased to hear that the fireworks have finally ended. It's still windy here at times but it's also very hot again so we're limiting Henry's time outdoors. We were so fortunate because we didn't lose power - I feel so sorry for the people who are still without power even now.
I hope all goes well for Eli with the test tomorrow.

Hi everyone! We're doing OK. Eli wasn't able to get his test until Friday. His Vet called in sick and we had to cancel Thursday. So, I won't get the results until tomorrow or Tuesday. <sigh> I have to imagine that they are still kind of on the higher side....as Eli still the majority of the symptoms. :( I made a list and gave it to the Vet this time, since I always forget something and probably even did with a list. LOL Something new to deal with is Eli is now getting some eraser sized marks on both sides of his back. The Vet said it's a fungus. <sigh> Of course, caused by that gift that just keeps on giving....Cushing's! Now, I have an anti-fungal to put on that. Right when it was time for his grooming date. So, that's out! I did order some of the frozen raw The Perfect Pet dog food for him. We'll see if he likes that.

His last ACTH Stim post was 12.4. I'm also interested in knowing what it is this time. I imagine theyll up the dose maybe as much as 10 mg. Maybe we'll do 10 in the morning and 10 at night. Depends on what the IMS says. We'll see.

The fireworks have stopped...finally! But....Eli is still nervous about going out at night. I've been able to coax him out though the last 2 nights to pee. YAY!

This week it is supposed to be much cooler in the low 80's! :D Last week it was in the 90's, but Eli got me out early to walk around the football field behind the apartments. He did better than I did. I have to buy us a water bottle for that anymore!

Today is dentist day again.

I hope Ian, Enya, Molly, Tipper, Henry, Chloe, Lemmy and all the rest of the babies are doing OK today.....and their Mommies and Daddy's!

I might add...the day after the ACTH Stim, Eli's head tremor got worse...and it had a jerk to it, off and on. He's had that before, but only has been intermittent...one or two days only. I'm still thinking, like Iris' Flynn......it's a rare side effect of the Cushing's disease.....and NOT of the Vetoryl. Just my thought. I saw an old post by Addy about her Angel Zoe, who also had a head tremor. He still only chews on one side...and I try only giving him soft treats these days.

Then by Sunday, the jerking stopped. IMO.....the raise in the cortisol from the test caused the jerking.

jxeno13
07-14-2014, 09:59 AM
Question; Does it make a difference to dose all in the morning...or split morning and night? ..Perhaps all in the morning would make the coritsol go down better.......and dosing day and night to maintain a number better? I'm just guessing here?

Remember...Eli is 30 pounds on 10 mg of Vetoryl to date.

Many dogs respond better to a split dose. Cortisol naturally waxes and wanes too.

It does sound like the head jerking in Eli's case might be caused by the cortisol dump. Not all dogs have it but some do.
Fungus!! Fiddle sticks. Always something. Hopefully that will go away soon with the med you have for it.

Hope the dentist went okay today. Molly and I are doing a-okay! :)

he was chewing his food on just one side too because of his facial paralysis.
glad that it is not so hot anymore.
hope that he gets better with some more vetoryl.

Hi Iris, Sharlene!! :D

Oh yea! San Jose! And, boy, I am sorry I ever left there! :( I lived in northern Calif. for over 30 years. ..although, my brother and I were born and raised in Chicago. I only miss the food there. My youngest son was born in San Jose and the kids were raised in CA. I've only lived here this time for about 11 yrs. I had to quit moving back and forth since about 1992 when my Mom passed away. I finished college here in KY. (the misteake of my life lives not far from here).....thus how we got stuck here. The older kids driving truck could get jobs easier here....since at the time they were under 25 and the insurance in Cali wouldn't cover them. They have an uncle in this town and they moved one by one....and each got the other a job. ..So, in my case, it was kind of like...."if you can't beat'um...join'um!" Now, I'm just too old to keep moving and now all the kids, grands and now great-grands are here....except for one granddaughter took a hike and moved to Fort Worth. <sigh>

Watsonville....the artichoke capitol of the world! Luscious, huge artichokes! The send the rejects here to KY. They are little, bitty here. I rarely ever buy them here. Small world..yes, it is! The boys used to dirt bike in Watsonville as well. :)

One day I met a lady on Facebook who lived in Florida now, that actually worked with my Dad at a Greek restaurant in San Jose. :D

Eli actually had the head tremor before the Vetoryl....but it did get worse when he did get the dump after the test. The hard jerk....he's done before a couple of weeks ago as well. He softer tremor and mouth thing...he's had for awhile. Iris' Angel Flynn had it too. :( ....That fungus now makes me sick! His once beautiful coat.....has little spots all over it. They seem to be popping up all over now. I hope I can keep up with them. The Vet gave me Miconazole an antifungal (actually for athletes feet and yes, jock itch!) I hope that'll work.

I didn't hear from the Vet today, I'll call him tomorrow. I had a ton of other doggie business to tend to today anyway. I did get to order some of The Perfect Petdog food today.....it'll be here tomorrow! YAY! It's frozen and cooked very lightly and still considered raw. I can't wait for Eli to try it!! I actually par cooked him a little concoction today of ground round, hashbrowns, an egg, threw a little cheese on top and some blueberries....along with some BB kibble. He actually ate the kibble as well! He's still waits for his "dessert" of cream cheese and pineapple with the Vetoryl. LOL What a dog! :D:D

It's raining now with a little thunder......so much for going out. I tried. He would have no part of it. The rest of the week is supposed to be barely hitting 80 degrees. Works for me!

Glad you are all doing well! I can't wait now to get his Stim back. I had to buy a 10 mg package...because I would have run out..so I don't know what will happen for the dosage increase yet. I'll just have to wait and see. Like my Mother used to say; " Hurry up and wait!"

Have a good rest of the night all! I hope all the pups and you all are doing well.

Eli's numbers are in today.....I'll pick it up the hard copy and post it tomorrow. But the Post was 7.28ug ......the IMS said she wanted to keep it around 5. So, they won't be increasing Eli's Vetoryl....and he'll have to go back again for another ACTH Stim in about 3-4 weeks and see where he is then.

The Dog food came in today! I can't wait for Eli to try it! I guess I should run to the store and get some more GR and kind mix it in slow with his usual. I'm excited to see what he thinks about it! :D:D:D

"That isn't bad, it the post can be up to 9.0ug with control of symptoms, down around 5 with no control, so that doesn't sound too bad."

We're still out of control (imo) at 7.29 post..his last was at 12.4 post and he was doing the drinking and peeing. The only symptoms relieved have been the peeing and drinking and vacuum eating. He still has rest of them, the pot belly, terror of everything, weak back legs, can't jump, the panting, looking for cold spots on floor, head tremor/ trembling, etc., I can't remember the rest of the list. Except for now that yucky fungus. I noticed too that his eyes stay watery. ..Maybe, all that will clear up if it his cortisol level continues to drop and perhaps levels off?? I hope it knows when to level off!

Yep, new food! I'm watching the clock so I can get to fed him dinner! :D:D

I got him some of Glynda's "My Perfect Pet". Half Boomer's Blend and half Hunter's Blend. :)

BTW - Sharlene, My youngest son's Uncle, now his cousin, owns a landscape service in Santa Cruz. We've spent lots of time in Santa Cruz and Monterey. Always loved it there! My kids practically lived at the beach.

Thanks! ;)

Hi Marianne! Oh yikes! I have it posted in an album. I'll have to take a look again and check his records. I don't think I remember them doing a ACTH Stim in the beginning...only the LDDS. That's when he got over dosed on the 60 mgs.

I'll have to look.

He was only on the 60 mg for 13 days when he crashed back in April around the 22rd. (Pg 2. post #364) An ACTH Stim was scheduled, but cancelled when he got sick...My Vet was out and Eli was down for the count) As I remember.....and hospitalized. Taken off the Vetoryl until 30 days ago, when symptoms started back....drinking and peeing....and the post 12.4ug showed up with the first stim test. Put back on Vetoryl per his IMS. 10 mgs...34 or so days ago.

His first Stim was 5/29/14 Pre was 2.68ug post was 12.4ug
He started his Vetoryl 10 mg on 6/12/14 ....
Next Stim after 30 days was 7/11/14 Post is 7.28ug

...The Vet is keeping Eli on 10 mg for now, another Stim in 3-4 weeks.

JoAnn, I think the vet is being very cautious with Eli and waiting to see what his cortisol does long term on the 10mg. After the crash, he might be worried that Eli is sensitive over a longer period of time with the vertoyl.

That's why he didn't want to up it even 5mg. He's afraid Eli's might drop too low again. It's almost where the IMS wanted it at 5 post, so he's being very cautious as you said, that it might drop too fast again. He said it could go back up, down more, or even stay steady.....we're just going to wait and see with the next stim test.

About that "My Perfect Pet" food......Eli ate a little bit at first......and then tried covering it up...(perhaps he wasn't hungry yet?) ..UNTIL..I got the dish, got a fork, sat down on the couch and pretended to eat it myself...then he was all gungho on that idea!! He begged for it! So, I pretended to eat some, and gave him some...yes, with a fork...and BAM, he gobbled it down..he even licked the dish clean! Freaky beggar that he is!! :D:D

Yea, he still has a lot of symptoms yet. That's my only worry. I REALLY hate that fungus and head tremor worries me the most! We'll just have to wait and see if his cortisol will continue to go down more. It could. It's just taking it's time. Back to low and slow.

Oh dear - the things we do for our pups ;)
Hopefully you won't have to do that every meal time otherwise you might accidentally eat it!!

I'm pleased to hear that the vet is being cautious, although the fungus isn't good at all. Hopefully the meds will take care of that.

We are expecting thunderstorms tomorrow, then a slight drop in temperatures but Henry and I are still counting down to Winter.

Hi MC! Crazy dog! This morning for breakfast...I tried the bowl...different flavor of food (same brand)....same no go. I warmed it a little to take off the chill, and sprinkled a tiny bit of cheese on it. (his favorite). So, back to the couch I went fork in hand..he ate about half of it..so I took it back in the kitchen......and made little balls with the food...and casually walked over to him (since he was watching me) and offered him one at a time, in between doing other things, and he gobbled them down one by one. He's such a silly dog! Or, maybe I'm the silly one!  But, all in all...I'd have to say he really likes MY food! :D It smells great! I actually did taste a bit of the Boomer's Blend (just a tad, enough to taste), it's chicken and beef.....and it's not bad at all! Actually for the price, I may be eating it myself soon. :o But, I'd have to say...it is healthy! :D

I'm happy too that the Vet is staying cautious with the Vetoryl. I will say Eli actually jumped up on the bench outside today! He hasn't been able to that for ages, it seems. So, YAY for Eli!! :D Maybe, we're getting somewhere...I guess we'll just have to be more patient. The fungus is another story...it popped up about a week ago.....and seems to be spreading. There is a pill...but the Vet said something about it compromising the Cushing's. (I think is what he said.) So, I'm going to stick with the messy cream for now. But, also said we have to resort to that at some point, but we'll see. I wish I had gotten his grooming in before this happened. But, who knew? <sigh>

It's 72 degrees here today! YAY! :D:D:D We're happy!! And, only in the 80's the rest of the week! No storms that I heard yet!

I hope you and Henry are doing OK! :)

Hi Iris! It was a high of 76 here today! YAY! ..I warmed his food up in the microwave.and even threw a bit of cheese on it for him. For dinner we did the Boomer's Blend from last night....he ate a little bit....then walked away. So, I got the bowl again, back to the couch...and found out he now prefers to be HAND FED!!   :(

Luckily, my whole front yard is a big court..all grass. Then behind us....is an old football field, that they made into a parking lot.....but all around it is a walking trail.....with lots of trees, a place to sit down, and exercise if you want along the way. In the mornings Eli has taking me for walks around the football field. I believe it's a half mile around. Then we have what I call the "north forty".....which is another big open field. He likes to walk out there sometimes too...depending how I feel those days.

The apartments where I live were an old high school and grammar school built in 1934 and the one I'm in was the old grammar school and was built in 1927. They've been restored into apartments by the cities Historical Society..then a private party business bought them from the city. This also used to be the old college campus when I started back to college to finish my degree...however I did finish in a neighboring city on the main campus. The apartment I'm in, I took a religion class in. :) Moving here seemed lived a cool idea..at the time. LOL They're fixed up really pretty, just too small for me anyway......and way to close to some people...that I don't need to be living that close to! Ha!

I hope it doesn't get too awfully hot for you and the babies! We're having wonderful weather for the week...then it's supposed to get hot again. ...I can breathe so much better in the warm air.....I dread the cold! :( Then I have to get the manager to walk Eli for me. It's supposed to be 82 tomorrow here. YAY!

His fungus seems to be spreading. I'm trying to keep in under control. I'm hoping I can. I'm giving it a few more days. <sigh> It's horrible! He had such a pretty coat. :( Of course, my "you'll catch it neighbor", REALLY freaked when she saw it! I did kind of enjoy the look on her face. :)

Oh dear, did they do a skin scraping to determine exactly what it is? What kind of fungus? Definitely fungus, not yeast? etc

Are they talking about giving him a steroid or what? If we know we can research what it is and any problems with the cushings to watch for. I know you are a very good researcher!!!

Poor baby, his coat should come back once this is cleared up, just have to get it cleared.

Oh wow, awesome jump Eli! are you giving him glucosomine and chondroitin joint supplements? That can help alot too with the hind leg weakness, as it helps at least to try and keep the joints good.

Ahhh......well......errrr...that would be a...no. I think he just said a skin fungus caused by the Cushing's (he said definitely, fungus, not yeast).....and gave me that anti-fungal cream. We didn't discuss pills at the time. That was when I took Eli to get hi stim, and Eli's always in big hurry to get out the door..and they were closing. So, I didn't ask many questions.....except he said to put it on 2X a day. No, I'm not giving him any joint supplements for now. He was always a good jumper, until this Cushing's thing.....and when he was OK for awhile...he was back to jumping again. ..When he crashed..he was back to no jumping.....now the last couple of days, he's back to jumping again a bit. He always loved to run and jump until until he got sick. Maybe, I'll see how he does for a week or two....and try some glucosomine if he needs it. :D I may be taking him back in though anyway.....for that fungus again by tomorrow. :( It kind of looks to be drying up some. It still looks ugly. The Vet didn't say what kind of pill he'd have to put him on...or what kind of fungus it was.

Ahhh......well......errrr...that would be a...no. I think he just said a skin fungus caused by the Cushing's.....and gave me that anti-fungal cream.

Note: The fungus doesn't even seem to bother Eli. He's not itching at it or anything. He acts like he doesn't even know it's there.

Hi Joann. Dogs with cushing's, especially those with uncontrolled cortisol, are at high risk of developing demodectic mange due to compromised immune system. If not treated, resulting yeast infections are common. Yeast is a fungus so an anti-fungal drug would be appropriate. You should ask your vet if he has ruled out demodex, which can only be ruled out by doing a skin scraping.

I think the vet should do a skin scrapping, but drying up is likely a good sign I'd think. It takes time to clear up skin issues though. So hang in there!

I hope he continues to run and jump. I think joint support is always a good option once they reach senior level and there is natural joint issues that can crop up.

I took Eli back this morning to the Vet (without calling first) for a recheck and see if he had done a skin scraping, and to do one, in case he hadn't already done one,....but, his Vet has been off most of the week. He'll be back in on Monday. I got another tube of the Miconazole which seems to be working. (I put it on him 2X a day). I don't really know what kind of fungus Eli has, although I do know it's not crusty, red, itchy..or seemingly bothersome to him. It's popping up as a dark, blackish spot. And, it here and there on his sides, towards his back in his fur.

Sharlene, I'm thinking of starting him on some Glucosamine. http://www.chewy.com/cat/naturvet-glucosamine-ds-msm/dp/36777?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=hg&utm_content=&utm_term=&gclid=Cj0KEQjwrqieBRCln82Rgufz7I0BEiQAPNjAI1vi9KME 2kB89zzTaFmlcoNayfZDUkOSg0VYAwZ5x_UaArEN8P8HAQ

I don't know anything else new. It's actually been chilly here the last 2 days. It was only a high 65 yesterday.....already cool and rainyish today at 64. Monday, it's supposed to be 90.

So glad the cream is working. That is good if it is clearing it up. It can take some time to get rid of anything skin related.

That joint support looks to have what you need in it. That's good. I think I would start him, just knowing what I know now about joints and cartilage as they get older and that cushings affects these things.

We've been kind of cool this week too. Molly loves it of course. I assume it will get warmer again though in the coming weeks. Rare for July though, and one day this week we had the coldest day in 47 years for that date. I wonder what that will mean for winter. It has just been one of those cooler summers so far though.

Hi everyone! Sorry for the long delay. First my new monitor blew out. Then I had to wait 11 days with no computer to settle that one. Wow! Luckily, I had a warranty on it....and it was only 2 mos old at that! .......As soon that got back up and running I got sick. Starting I thought with a summer cold or sinus infection, that ended up going into my already defunct lungs. So, I've been trying to pull myself out of that now. Shew! No rest for the wicked. :(

Eli is going fine though. His fungus is ALL gone.....neary a bald spot anywhere! YAY! I managed to drag him to the groomer yesterday.....and got him a "no-patterned" haircut, so I could keep an eye on that problem. His skin is kind of dry and itchy though, so I got him a bottle of the Keto Chlor at the Vet for the groomer to put on him. (I think that's what Addy also suggested). He feels so much better! Then today was Stim test day....another day of fun for us. He had the full work up.....ACTH Stim, a full chem panel done, and CBC. ....His numbers were great, except for a little elevation in enzymes and ALP, but nothing to worry about. I need to get copies yet...but they were busy, and the end of the day....and I could no longer breathe by this time. I ordered his Vetoryl 10 mg again......which seems to working well for him, Dasuquin soft chewables, his heart guard and a new 3 month flea and tick pill called Bravecto. I'm not licking Frontline so much anymore, and really didn't to anymore weird chemicals on his skin. So, I'm trying this new pill..a little expensive, but it lasts for 3 months....which makes up the difference if it works. We'll see. So, he's good to go! I also started him on some new dog food about 2 weeks ago.....I switched him to Darwin's Frozen Raw, which is a little more affordable for me. They have chicken, turkey, beef, duck, buffalo....and he seems to have come to like all the flavors IF....I hand feed him! :o I think he believes he has me wrapped! I also had the Vet check ot the package ingredients, etc.....and also read the Dog Food Advisor reports and agreed it was OK for him to eat. YAY! Sounds like a winner! .....His tremors have slowed down immensely, he's started back jumping up on the chair and benches outside. But still won't sleep with me on the couch. Humm..I guess he still gets too hot.....and prefers sleeping next to the couch on the floor on a towel. (Of course he also has his own bed and another pillow close by, but rarely sleeps there, if ever.) ...But, all in all.....it's looking good for Eli!

Oops! Forgot.......except for when that period before he got back on his Vetoryl while he was ravaging food like a horse......he gained 3.5 pounds! My little porker now weights 33.6 pounds. He should weigh about 25.:eek::eek: Diet time for poor Eli! :(

I hope you all are doing OK! I've missed you! I hope Tipper, Molly, Ian, Enya, Henry, Lemmy, Chole and all the other babies are doing OK as well!

JoAnn! Holy cow you have been through a lot lately. Glad the monitor arrived, but bummer that you ended up bad sick and settling in your lungs :( :( That is no good. You have to take care of yourself.

Awesome that Eli is doing so good. Hand feeding! He's been chatting up Ginger it sounds like. Song has to hand feed her too.

Molly is doing better with her joints since we started dasuquin too. Wendy had told me that was what her vet was recommending over cosequin now, so I switched.

Molly is getting so many pills now that she thinks when she hears any bottle rattle it means she is getting a treat. (I wrap the pills in wet dog food, with as little as possible that she will take) She is loving it. I think I need a spreadsheet of what she gets when, just to keep it all straight. LOL

So glad to see you back online. You've been missed. As you can probably tell from the messages left for you. :) LOLOLOL

Hi Sharlene! :D:D I really did miss you all too! I'm still trying to get my health back, so I can keep up with Eli. He's doing better than I am. The apartment manager has been taking him on poop walks for me. I can't breathe to walk far. I hope this doesn't linger much longer. The end of last year and into the first of this year, I had this, and thought it would last FOREVER! I seriously thought I was going to die.....or be dead by the end of this year. I had to get aggressive with my doctors...and try to make them understand them that they needed to get more aggressive with my treatment. <sigh> Sometimes, they just don't listen. And, they think I'm nuts!:mad: I have an appointment tomorrow, but can't get down to my lung doctor in Nashville until the 28th. They actually did give me some good antibiotics and Predisone..but I always feel I should be a little better by ow.....this started last Friday.....and only progressed to worse by Monday...and I went to Urgent Care......for injections and scripts...Three days later..I am on my feet anyway. Although, I think I should be breathing better. I did have a great lung doctor here..but this small town politics drove her off.....and she moved to Arkansas. She was AWESOME! Although, the hospital here sucks big time. .....Anyway....I'm too anwry to get rid of yet! LOL

My Vet said the Dasuquin was also better than the Cosequin ....I'm getting the soft chews because of Eli's having trouble with chewing hard stuff....on the bad side of his mouth. ..Oh! BTW! He's not drooling anymore either! YAY! From what I've read you give them 2 a day for 6 wks....then 1 every other day for maintenance. According to little fat weight self at 33.6 pounds. ....

Like you I've started a calender and writing when to give him what pill when...........and when I started. He hears a bag or crinkle as well......and thinks it's treat time too! LOL ......I had no clue Eli was on the page when I was sick!! He's been secretly chatting with Ginger!! THAT'S where he got this idea from.....Now, that makes it...her fault! :D:D:D:D

It's great to hear from you! Glad Molly is doing OK! Hopefully, for now.....our pill list will short! I pocketbook is already way too short from all this! :o

Yikes! Which reminds me...to go take my own pills!!

molly muffin
08-08-2014, 01:11 AM
I'm giving molly the soft chews too, but even then I tear it into 4 pieces for her. :)

Yes, go take your pills. That sucks that your good lung doctor left. :( Small town politics can be very tricky, very closed off to others too and just a royal pain.

I should have them by Monday. I'm hoping Eli does well on them too. Since he now has to cut down on treats....maybe these will suffice. :D I can only hope. Four little treats, works better than one. Eight better than 2. ;) LOL

Yea, the small town politics here has ran many off quite a few good doctors here. Although, perhaps it's just as well (except for my lung doctor, I really miss her)....but, the hospital sucks so bad. I had a Lung CT Scan done here...once to give my new lung doctor at Vanderbilt.....found out, after he wouldn't except it, and had it redone, that the one done here......didn't show 2 spots on my right lung...the one a Vandy did. It turned out one of those spots was cancer. I had lung cancer surgery in Sept., 2012. Had my original lung doctor stayed here.....they would probably have never found that cancer in time. Luckily, it was found in stage 1A and I didn't even have to have chemo or radiation. ..:D I go now to Vandy for pretty much everything. I've been going there now for over 20 years.....I even flew back and forth when I lived in Calif..for my Botox treatments for my dystonia and to have surgery for my vocal cords..my neurologist was also there at Vandy. I also have Essential Tremor, Cervical Dystonia, and had surgery for Spasmodic Dysphonia. ...Vanderbilt has been the greatest for me anyway. :D I go here for a band-aid fix...I know pretty much what I need in medication so I always email my lung dr at Vandy and let him know what's going on......and tell him what I think. He also needs a good talking to occasionally. LOL The nerd! :p

Oh I hope you are feeling better! As another with COPD, I understand. I am just coming out of pneumonia, can breath better, still coughing up crap, recovering from the pred effects, and no stamina but I am better. The cold just kept getting worse and worse until WHAM! you are sick, old lady! :p

I've had two pulmomologist since coming back to ARK - the first one was the highest recommended in the area and was HORRID! Her patients were called back to the exam room by numbers, not names! They would not talk to you nor listen - the tests were all they were interested in. I never felt so insignificant in a doctor's office before or since! The doc I see now is amazing. She is a great doc and human being to boot. It's tough when your docs either don't really seem care about you or won't listen. WE know our bodies, not them...and that first doc would not listen and did not care. Dr. Rector is a champ - even calling me at home at night a week ago to check on me. ;) I'm really sorry your town lost a good doc. Local politics can make your head spin! :p If you've ever heard of The Mena Connection or the Boys on the Track...that is MY home town. :o

I'm really glad your manager will help you and Eli...that is so nice of them. I'm even happier that your sweet boy is doing well! That is the best medicine of all, huh? ;)

"Oh I hope you are feeling better! As another with COPD, I understand. I am just coming out of pneumonia, can breath better, still coughing up crap, recovering from the pred effects, and no stamina but I am better. The cold just kept getting worse and worse until WHAM! you are sick, old lady! " ...... Tell me about it!! Yikes! I can't believe the level of stupidity here!! .....They've run off all the good doctors! Even a few that were actually born and raised here have left. My last lung doctor was too smart for them anyway..I guess. She was Indian, and VERY smart. She was the best! Great person as well! She was in the book for Top 100 Woman Professionals in their field one year. She liked small town living though...how she ended up in KY, I have no clue! She ended up leaving here and moved to Hot Springs, Ark. I wish I could get her on Doctor on Demand or something....I'd go for it in a heartbeat! :D ......

I just got back from a sub-primary here.....and was actually impressed! That's a new one for me! I've never seen her before....a young woman....and seemed on top of the game. Hum...aggressive treatment! YAY for me! Maybe, I'll live through the year after all. :p Another injection of anti-biotics and steroids....and stronger anti-biotics.....and stronger steroids. .....Works for me! At least with the Pred, I feel like I should feel "normally". COPD really sucks. My Mother had it as well..and never smoked a day in her life. Bad lucgs run on her side of the family......and my daughter and a few grandkids are right behind me. :( Sucks. But, I sure know how you feel as well! Down for the count! ...Once it gets hold of you....it NEVER seems to go away! Last year it lingered for months. When they start talking hospital......I start talking infusions. LOL I told her I had a sick dog at home that I couldn't leave. Hospital is NOT an option. Oh well, ..I'll live.

Eli is doing so great. He could be better...but everyday he gets back to old self again. Maybe, he'll never get all the way to his "old self"....but he's hanging in good. He likes his food......his numbers are good for now. His fungus is all gone....you can't even tell he had one. He's still won't go out at night though....about quarter to 7 is his limit. And, he holds it until morning. <sigh> I guess he still has back back flashes from July 4th. even though it's stilll light out then...it's a "no-go'!

I hope you are doing well! We've all missed you so. I hope that you are feeling better soon too! :D

Lots of hugs!!

So pleased to hear from you Jo Ann, and also good to hear that Eli is improving, however not so good to hear that you're under the weather. I hope the new meds work and you start to feel better very soon.
It certainly sounds like Eli has you trained with the hand feeding. I need to keep Henry from reading the forum! Although I currently feed him bits of kibble to get him used to lying in his basket and he thinks I'm too slow ;)

Actually I'm glad you have someone that you like that you think will work for and with you. Good to hear that.

Hi! I like aggressive too! I told the new doctor yesterday that most doctors didn't seem to understand that I need to be treated aggressively. She wasn't surprised. It only surprised me with the fact that she was so young, and actually seemed to "get it"! Then when I researched her credentials and saw where she went to school....took little thinking on my part that an Appalachian medical school (), (who knew) ..she must have have had seen thousands of COPD cases in 4 yrs. ....from the coal mines, etc., kids at 4 probably smoking up at way. ...She was good for what I needed anyway.....for now. My other doctors (except for my older neurologist) I usually have to beg for anything I need. :(

MC, Sharlene's right! You'd better step it up a bit! These babies are quicker than we are. Their reading this stuff while we're napping. One hand fed kibble here, a pill there, a treat here.....and pretty soon the fine china isn't good enough!:eek::eek::p

Ugh! No manager here today...I have to walk Eli myself! :( That's NOT going to be a pretty sight! I could let him off his leash...but then occasionally he has been known to take advantage of that privilege.

Wish me luck! I hope all the babies are doing good today! I haven't been reading the board any. Mostly trying to keep up with myself and Eli for the last little while. <sigh> I apologize. I'll do better when I get back up to stuff again...soon, I hope! :D

Good morning! After a bad night, (couldn't breathe) <sigh> .....I guess I'll have to slow up some kind of pace. I didn't think I could get any slower than I already am. :o My oxygen level seems to keep dropping like a rock. I have oxygen here at home I sleep with at night......so, I'll have to try wearing it a little more during the day too, I guess. A couple more breathing treatments maybe. I'll have to do some "stepping-up" with something myself. I can't go to the hospital and leave Eli with anyone.....no one can take care of him but me. That would be a disaster!:eek:

I hope your babies are doing OK. The weather is mid-80's here, Iris. I'm glad you are FINALLY getting some relief for Ian and Enya! ..I hope Molly is doing OK too!

I found my problem with the oxygen thing....well not really mine, but with my concentrator...it was NOT working. So, what I did sleep last night, I slept without oxygen. My oldest handy-dandy granddaughter came over, found the problem, and fixed it for me. Luckily, she works in a nursing home. :D ....I did my nebulizer as prescribed and stepped that up.......and started my new anti-biotic today. I slept off and on all day. I did manage to take Eli out.....who decided probably I wasn't up to snuff....and went pretty quick and we made it back in without incident. I also wore a portable oxygen out..(which I NEVER do)..just in case. :o My daughter brought me some chicken soup.

Iris....hes eating the new Darwin's Frozen Raw that I got him. They had a trial test sale.....REALLY cheap! 10 pounds for $18.95! ...When I figure it out..it's cheaper than the others, including shipping. I have to hand feed him now, for some reason.....but he's eating great! Last night and today...I added a couple of tiny pieces of boiled chicken breast and some fresh green beans.from my dinner. He LOVES green beans! ....He hasen't realized yet..his food is getting cut down, daily. He gained 3.6 pounds after he crashed. ....He was 30 pounds..now he's 33.6#. He needs to lose some major weight. :( His treats are already almost gone.

Sharlene....Mary Jo will be back again tomorrow. <sigh> She loves Eli....and he won't go out with just anyone. I don't know what I'd do without her!

Back to bed........Night all! Hugs and wet kisses! Stay cool, Iris! It's going to be low 80's here next week. Maybe, I'll feel better tomorrow.

Scared me too, Valerie! Especially, when I finally realized that was my problem. Luckily, my Ashley figured out what it was. I have a portable too,..and used that until she got here to fix the bigger one. I also got on the stick and doing my nebs again..added an extra one, AtroVent to my Albuteral. (have the rescues, as well). I'm actually better in the summer, than the winter. I can't breathe in the winter at all! They also gave me another, different, anti-biotic to do. I had been doing really well up until now, and not sick since the first of the year. Hi Sharlene, I'm still not breathing yet. :( I've been in contact with my lung doctor at Vandy.(who's not that much help), but he did give me a longer script for more Pred. ....which helps some. I do have an appointment anyway on the 28th...for my follow-up CT Scan and see him...so I think I can make it until then. I just can't go to the hospital, and leave Eli with anyone. No one can take care of him.....and he's so stubbborn..I'd have to take him with me anyway. :D

I got the Dasuquin...and can't get him to eat them. I started it today. He's not going for it! I even chopped the second one up and put it in his food....and now he won't eat his dinner. So much for that....he'll go to bed hungry.:mad: He is so stubborn! Once he makes up to something, that's it! He's worse than dealing wsith my daughter at times. LOL

:(

Now that is just ridiculous. Molly is a finicky one too and she'll even eat those. I had to sort of coerce the first one, but once she got it down, then day two, after that it wasn't a problem, now she looks for them.

Well, this has just got to get better. What about your grand daughter, could she come stay for a couple days if they wanted to put you in for treatment? Or the manager maybe? Or, can he board at a kennel for a couple days? Like at the vets you go to? I take molly to board at her vets and to doggy day care there when I need to. Just thinking of any possible options for Eli to try and get you better. If I was there, I'd be over no problem but it's a bit far for me. :(

We're all cheering you on JoAnn!

Surely she would peek in on him, make sure he has food and water, and take him for walks. You have to take care of you first and foremost so you will be around for Eli in the long run....says the pot to the kettle. :o;)

Hi, I'm still hanging in. I have another doctor's appointment tomorrow here in town. Evidently none work on Wednesday.....and full on Thursday. I'm just doing breathing treatments, some pred, and oxygen at night. What I need is a big blast of steroids....to get kick started......and I'd be OK again...but I can't seem to get anyone to listen. :(

Eli is doing OK.....stubborn as usual and getting worse everyday. Iris, I'll send him to for a vacation for a couple of weeks and shape him up again. He's getting too lazy and spoiled around here. A vacation would do him good! :D I still can't get him to eat that Dasuquin. Surprisingly, I did get him to eat the new flea thing...and he actually loves the heart guard. ...I'm going to give it one more try. Luckily, I can probably take it back to the Vet and get a refund.

Eli won't stay with anyone. Whenever I have left him, I got one of my granddaughters to stay here with him. In a dire straight....I could probably get her to stay for a couple of days....if I need to. He won't eat without me here...but might for her. She works, but the manager could check in on Eli.

Thanks for the thoughts Sharlene..(if you could come really) ....I do have a girlfriend that has run to my rescue..(and even she has MS)...but her mil trumped me with a stroke and she stayed with her at the hospital......and then she just took off to NY for her birthday.

Anyway....everything I do is just exhausting....you're right, Pot! ;) I hope all your babies are doing OK. I'll kick this soon, I hope. Thinking of you all!

Today is also Tipper's 2 year anniversary on treatment for Cushing's. I absolutely HATE this disease! I know we ALL do! Please keep Patti and Tipper in our prayers. :(

It seems amazing that it has been 2 years for Tipper and Patti. In some ways time flies by and in others it just chugs along slowly. I know that Patti has done all she can, each and every day to give Tipper every chance possible to live a long life with this disease. I don't think anyone could do more.

Oh JoAnn, I am sorry that you are still battling this and haven't gotten the "kick" you need to really beat the heck out of this.

Glad to hear that Eli, the little prince is doing well. :) He is such a hoot.

Let us know what the doc says this time!

hugs

Hi Sharlene! Iris!

You're right. Patti has done everything she can possibly do keep Tipper comfortable and give her a good quality of life. That's for sure! I know she's done without for herself to take care of her babies and give Tipper everything she needs. She's a great CushMom! I guess we all do at some point. I know I'vve done the same with Eli. But, they've given us nothing but love and never asked for anything more.

I was at the doctor today.....another L O N G, L I N G E R I N G lung infection. :( I went through this the first of the year..and was hoping I'd never have to again. :o Last time I broke a rib coughing. The doctor did give me a steroid shot to hopefully get me kick started again....and back to another round of an anti-biotic. The one they really want to give me.....Leviquin is REALLY good........BUT, the insurance only pays for a generic of it called Avalox.....and I am HIGHLY allergic to that! I went into an anaflaxis last time I tried that one. So, we're running out of things to try to really kick this, I guess. <sigh> I'm trying another one tomorrow that I've only had once before...and when it hits you...it's usually the second time around. I do keep an Epi-Pen here...just in case.

Update: I won't be posting for another few days. I have Vertigo now. :( I'll send an update when I can. I'm still under doctor's care.and trying to keep my head clear. Eli is OK.

Oh Jo Ann I do worry about you. :( Will the insurance not pay for Leviquin since you've been proven to the allergic to the generic? I'd think that with a doctors note to the insurance company that they would do so. Well I'd hope anyhow.

hugs sweetie, you and Eli take care!

I don't know, Sharlene. I think they're now afraid to give me anything in that category of AB. My dil is taking me Friday to my lung doctor in Nashville at Vandy on Friday. I'm on another AB that I started on Sunday. My breathing is getting better though..now if I can get rid of this Vertigo thing. It's nuts! :o

Hi Iris! No...I'm taking care of myself. I have all my meds here...my son came over yesterday to make sure I ate. They'll be here again tomorrow..and on Friday, I go to my lung doc. The only thing is the carnage I've left behind in this tiny apartment is awful. :o But, I'll do like Scarlet in Gone With The Wind..."tomorrow's another day."

In other words...it can wait until I get to it, I guess.

It's been hot here...but I haven't really been outside. The manager has been walking Eli, along with another lady. Two of my neighbor's died this weekend...one on Sunday and another yesterday. Both suddenly...actually the remaining neighbors have already been really checking in on me off and on. One of the two that died was the lady that Eli adored so much....(even though she's the one that thought Cushing's was contagious) I know he's really going to miss her. :( I hope your Ian and Enya are doing OK. A lot going on here..to just sit home taking care of a sick doggie.

Oh no. That poor lady. Even though Eli scared her I remember he really liked her. I am very glad to hear that your neighbours are checking in on you. Good that the family is rallying around to your side too.

It is good that your breathing is better. Just don't get cocky now. Take it easy.

Another of our members gets vertigo too. Horrible and debilitating. Actually might be a couple people now I think about it more.

I only get it a bit when I look down from some heights. Makes me feel like I am going to throw up. That is easy to desk with though. You just back away and don't look down. Not easy at all when you have it in your every day life.

Take care!
Hugs

Yikes! Vertigo? I didn't have a clue what the heck it was! This all started Saturday night! I was trying to sleep.....when I got cramps really bad...finally fell asleep...then during the night....I woke up...sick..(sorry) throwing up sick.....when I tried to close my eyes...it was like a switch flipped in my head and room would start spinning....and I'd get sick again. Every time I closed my eyes the switch flipped..and spinning started.....so I had to sit up and hold on to the couch. When I walked..I was all kind of stumbling around..it lasted forever it seemed. That's when I got scared.....and finally called a neighbor....and she took out Eli and said if I call the ambulance, she would...I hated doing it...but....soooo.....while I was at the hospital....(pitiful as it is).....they did nothing really...only gave me something for my breathing.......which I was already doing...when I tried to explain the "other"....they just looked at me....I was talking then to my dil on the phone to come and get me.(after they finally gave me something for being dizzy....and my dil said VERTIGO...when I told the ER doc (nurse pract) that.......she just looked at me. DUH! Nothing out of her at all!! They only gave me something for being dizziness. Yesterday I called the primary doctor and got something else for nausea.....and still need more for dizziness. <sigh> (Probably all from an inner ear infection) my guess. :) I did start another AB, but AFTER this last Vertigo experience....it takes me until about 6PM to start getting over it.....and I'm still wobbly. Too weird...I've never had this before. Any suggestions and input are appreciated!!!

Yea. poor Alice will definitely be missed by all. Everyone here loved her...she was quite the character. Eli will also miss her as well..even though she had quit petting him awhile back..she still give him a treat occasionally. She always tried saying it upset her cat if she smelled Eli on her. Her cat (old and half dead) is to be euthanized Thursday and buried with her in her arms. (no comment)

My mom used to suffer with Vertigo often and it would strike out of no where - no warning, nothing. Suddenly she wouldn't be able to stand, walk, move her head, close her eyes without extreme vomiting and often falling. She had it for decades. I don't remember what meds they gave her but they would knock her out for hours on end and she was usually over it when she woke up. But my mom was uber sensitive to drugs - an aspirin would make her woozy!

I am so glad you have a support system close by! That is wonderful and a relief I'm sure. Tho I am so sorry to hear about your neighbors passings.

Take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing.
Hugs,

Hi Leslie! I hope this doesn't last for ions. :( I've never had it before. I'm hoping it's just an inner ear infection. ..something this new AB will clear up. I have high hopes, I guess. I have an unusually high tolerance for drugs. I think anyway. jmo I've had health problems for so long it seems, anymore....I'm probably getting immune to most things, that I'm not allergic to. Today, is better....but then I've been up most of the night and morning. So, much for drinking a coke at 1AM. :o

Thanks to you all too for checking on me. I do so appreciate it. Eli is doing good too..the manager and another neighbor have been great about taking him out for me. He's even picky about who takes him out. Such a dog.

I've just been catching up on your thread. I really hope that you can get the correct meds and start feeling much better very soon.

I'm so pleased to hear that Eli is doing well and it sounds like your manager and neighbours are rallying round which is nice.
