Hi all, so glad to find this forum. Dottie has been treated for cushings for about 3 years now and was diagnosed with diabetes just before Christmas this year. She is on 30mg Vetoryl per day and 8 clicks? Of insulin twice a day, she has had a run if bad luck and we are in the vets every week! She's such a trooper but the latest thing that's making her miserable is an itchy vulva, she's constantly nibbling at it or scooting to try and scratch it, it looks red and dry but it's also gone black. She has had anti-biotics but no better, can anyone help so my poor little girlie can get some relief?

Oh poor little thing. Welcome to you and Dottie. Have they checked to see if she has a yeast infection? or a UTI or even a combination of both. They need to do some cultures to see what grows so they know the right antibiotic to try and get this cleared up. Some infections can be very resistant and not all antibiotics work one everything.

Welcome to the forum, I'm sure some of the others will be by to welcome you and give you some insight too.

Hi and welcome to you and your girl from me as well! I agree with Sharlene, your girl should be checked for a yeast infection and/or an UTI. I also wanted to provide you with a link to our sister site that deals with canine diabetes: http://www.k9diabetes.com/forum/

I am glad to hear that your girl is doing well on her treatment of Vetoryl, and was wondering if you would mind sharing some history about your girl and her Cushing's diagnosis? I see you posted that she is taking a Vetoryl dose of 30 mg, but what is the "8 clicks?" Also could you post her recent ACTH stimulation results for us? Is your girl taking any other herbs, supplements, or medications? Does she have any other health issues? Sorry about all of these questions but the more we know about your girl the better our feedback can be, ok?

We are here to help in any way we can so do not hesitate to ask all the questions you want.

Hugs, Lori

Hi, Dottie was diagnosed about 3 years ago with cushings, I think this was initially in the absence of being able to pin her symptoms on anything else! She was put on 60mg of Vetoryl and responded well. She stopped drinking so much and was a much more settled dog. She would go in for her 3 monthly ACTH tests which did show that her cortisol was raised and also her liver readings were high but she was kept on the same foes.new became unhappy with the vet and changed. They did the tests again, sent them off to the States and the results came back as definite cushings. Just before Christmas last year Dottie started drinking excessively, weeping in the kitchen during the night and when we were out and was pretty miserable. We took her to the vets and they diagnosed diabetes the same day. She started on insulin and then after Christmas they had her in again to check her cushings and glucose. The diabetes seemed to affect the cushings and so the Vetoryl was reduced. She has had constant infections since January, an abscess on her cheek which was nasty, uti's and this latest itching episode. She has been on antibiotics for different things for 2 months. She's had her anal glands emptied. But saying all that she is still a lively little thing. She has 8 mls insulin twice a day (I'm assuming it's ml's) she has a vet pen and we click it 8 times to deliver the correct dose.
