Hello and welcome to the forum. I am so sorry your baby is having troubles. If she does have Cushing's you have come to the best place for help and support.
Please give us a little background on your dog including age and weight. What are the symptoms your dog is presenting with? Has your dog been tested for diabetes, or thyroid problems? Are there any other issues going on with your dog? If so were they present when your dog was tested for Cushing's?Please get
copies of the diagnostic testing used to confirm CCushing's. Please post all the abnormals along with the scale given by the lab that shows normal readings as all labs are different. Cushing's is a hard disease to diagnose, and has similar
symptoms to other diseases. There is no need to rush into treatment as Cushing's progresses slowly. As far as you dogs life having 2 years left, all I can say is many on this forum are proof that is not true. With a vigilant owner who manages this disease well you dog could live out it's natural life. We are here to help educate and support you so others will be on to welcome you. Please get your dogs testing numbers posted so we can better see what is going on. Blessings

Hello and welcome to you and your baby.

Patti asked some good questions to get you started. Lab results are important to help us good accurate feed back to you.

The most important thing with cushings is learning all you can about it and having a knowledgeable vet that you can work as a team with for your baby.

Treatment if cushings is the confirmed diagnosis is important and proper protocols for medicating and testing must be followed to get the best results possible.

We are happy to answer any questions you might have.

What sort of treatment has your vet suggested to you?

Hi and welcome to you and your baby girl! :)

We were told 2 wks ago our girl has Cushing's and with her type she has. 2 yes left. Were devastated

Honey, ya'll just toss this out the window right now and forget you ever heard such a thing. This is the biggest myth in canine Cushing's....and a possible sign that your vet is not well-versed in this disease nor it's treatments so be open-minded to changing vets in the future. ;) You do not want a vet who has a poor success rate treating this disease nor one with a negative attitude going in. We have pups here who have lived LONG past that 2-year crap and most of our babies do not pass from Cushing's but rather from conditions / events totally unrelated to Cushing's. One pup lived 12 years after diagnosis! So you just forget about this, ok?

Did the vet tell you what type your girl has? The pituitary based form (PDH) is the most common, 85% of pups have this type. ADH, the adrenal based form, makes up most of the remaining 15%. ADH can be completely cured via surgery if the pup is a candidate. Both can be controlled with medication and allow the pup to live out a normal life span - and beyond in many cases.

BTW, we will ask a whole LOT of questions but we aren't being nosy. The more we know about your sweet girl the more meaningful feedback we can offer. So be prepared to play 20 Questions! :)

Now, I know you are not able to comprehend a great deal right now; your emotions are too raw. How well I remember! I first heard the word "Cushing's" in late 2007 and as I read about it, the remainder of my world crumbled into tiny shards. I thought my Sweet Bebe was dying and there was nothing I could do to help her - I felt helpless, scared, angry, guilty, frustrated, confused. To make matters worse, the first groups I reached out to for help increased those emotions 10 times over. By the time I found this group I was a real mess. A dear friend here later told me that when I first appeared on the site she saw a woman with her hair standing on end as if she had her finger in a light socket! :o:D She kindly left out the parts about the bulging eyes and flying slobber! :p

But these kind folks gently took my hand and led me along until I could breath again. Then they began to teach me what I needed to know to be an advocate for my baby, to learn this disease and the treatments for it so I could made the best decisions possible. I am still learning today but I am no longer afraid nor lost. I not only have hope, I have faith. And we have not taken one single step alone - our family here has been by our side the whole way. My Squirt was 16 last month. We are now your family, too. You are never alone - we will walk every step of your journey with you. We may not always have the answers but we will always have ears to listen and shoulders to lean on. So you take some time today and just breath, some good deep breaths. Try to relax and enjoy some time with your sweet girl having fun. You are all in good hands now, in the best family you could find.

Hugs,
