Anyone know if that is a side effect of the meds or a symptom of cushings?? Vet has no idea why he lost all that weight. Thyroid fine w meds. Xrays clear. We went from 55 lbs to 34 since august 2013 :(

Hi and welcome to you and your boy,

Losing weight is not a common side effect. Did he have an ACTH stim test done recently? If so, could you post those results?

There is a disease known as Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) where losing weight is a symptom. Here's an excerpt from an article which describes EPI:
When the pancreatic cells responsible for production of these enzymes are damaged or lacking, the inadequate enzyme secretion results in malnutrition despite adequate food intake. Full article can be located here: Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) (http://www.acvim.org/PetOwners/AnimalEducation/FactSheets/SmallAnimalInternalMedicine/ExocrinePancreaticInsufficiency%28EPI%29.aspx)

Was wondering if you could tell us more about your boy, such as his weight and the dose of Trilostane he is taking? Also, are his ACTH stim test being done 4-6 hours after his dose of Trilostane? Is the Trilostane being feed with food for optimal absorption? What symptoms does he display? Does he have any other health issues? Has a chemistry/CBC blood panel been done? If so, could you post any abnormal levels?

I am sorry for all these questions but the more we know about your boy the better our feedback can be, ok?

Hugs, Lori

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Goodness. Was that over weight that could afford to be loss? We do see excess weight come off, but normally if there is an awful lot of unnatural weight loss, then you need to be doing full bloodwork and ultrasound if possible to rule out other things. How is the glucose? Diabetes can come on very sudden in cushings dogs. Also what is the current status on the ACTH test? In other words, when was the last test done and do you have the results available to post?

Welcome again,
