My dog Pedro has just started his new medication for cushings disease.I was wondering if anyone else has had bad seizures as a symptom. He has had some very bad ones and then milder ones. They also seemed to come a few at a time.Another symptom that i did not see listed is he cries when i touch him or lift him up like he has pain. He seems to draw in his paws and wants no one to touch him.He has only had 2 pills so far but has seemed to have lost his appetite'What a Worry!

STOP the medication. No more til we can chat a bit, 'k?

You say he just started treatment? Which drug - Vetoryl (Trilostane) or Lysodren (Mitotane)?

How much does Pedro weigh?

What size dose of the drug is he taking and how often does he get it?

Is he eating?

Drinking?

Any vomiting or diarrhea? (If the answer to this is yes, get him into his vet or an ER facility ASAP! Do NOT wait!)

Is he walking sorta hunched up, like he is sucking his belly in?

Hope to hear from you soon! And welcome!
Hugs,
Leslie and the gang

Oh dear, no, this is not right at all. Pedro should not be showing signs of pain and seizures. As Leslie said STOP, no more medication till we get this straight.

If any of what Leslie mentioned is going on, head to the ER and say you want electrolytes and ACTH pronto.

Do you have copies of the test done to diagnose Pedro? If so can you post any of the abnormal values with ranges please.

Lets get started with answering some questions, (if you aren't at the ER already) and take it from there.

How is Pedro now? Whenever you start medication it is important to watch your dog closely for signs that something is wrong. It could be as simple as not eating and being really tired.

Please let us know how he is doing and post the tests results, how old Pedro is, and what he weighs here. Many people on this forum are experts at reading this stuff.

Pedro has been having seizures off and on for about 3 weeks before taking the medicine. He also was crying when lifted at certain times and now that you mention it kinda wealking a little curled up.Remember this was all before the medicine. He is on Vetoryl 10 mg,1xdaily. He weighs about 14 lbs.Today was just day 2 of medicine.Pedro is 10 years old and had until now good health. After he had a couple seizures the vet started him on Phenabarb 5 mg 1 every 12 hours. He has stopped as he has not had a seizure since last Wednesday and i was scared it might affect his liver.I do not know if he could have a tumor or not as we did not do mri or a scan.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I am very concerned about your little one and I do hope you discontinue dosing. A dog can overdose on just one capsule so just because Pedro has only had two doses, means nothing, especially if he is not eating. Please discontinue dosing and contact your vet right away.

With so little information, I am naturally concerned about the accuracy of the diagnosis as seizures and pain are not symptoms of cushing's. Does Pedro pee and drink a lot? Does he have an increased appetite? Panting? Coat and/or skin problems? These are commonly associated with cushing's. Can you please get copies of the tests that were done and share them with us? Your vet should have done a blood chemistry, complete blood count (cbc) and a urinalysis, including a urine culture. That would really help us try to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

I'll be looking forward to hearing a lot more about your precious Pedro.

This started before beginning medicine? That's not right at all.
Stop the meds and the vet has to find out what is going on because these are not symptoms of Cushings. Something else is very wrong.

Cushings is a slowly progressing disease so there is no rush to treat it, especially if there is another health issue going on. This must be resolved before you begin meds again please.
