Thanks for accepting me into this group. I am taking my 10 year old male Labrador Retriever for an ultra-sound today. He has had Valley Fever (common fungal disease in Arizona) for approx 2 years. Because of this condition he has been on fluconazole (300 ml x2) every day for that same 2 years. He is actually showing signs of improvement fighting the Valley Fever. But now, we have noticed an increase in his water drinking and he acts like he's starving all the time. He also exhibits spindly stiff hind legs..and limps a little. His last Vet visit was about 2 weeks ago, and his blood tests for his Valley Fever showed improvement, but liver enzymes were off. They did some X-rays and his liver and spleen are enlarged. I was just wondering if anyone knows a connection of fluconazole and Cushing's. Ben has done well as far as the fluconazole to fight the Valley Fever, but if he is diagnosed with Cushing's should I try to probe the Vet for a different form of med for Valley Fever? Ben's Valley Fever is in his nervous system, and fluconazole is the best ani-fungal to fight the condition when it's present in the nervous system. I do trust my Vet, don't get me wrong..but I am desperate to talk to people who have gone through this. Again, he hasn't been officially diagnosed yet...but all signs point to Cushing's. Any suggestions or input would be great. We need to keep fighting the Valley Fever as it is deadly if not treated, but I can't trade one disease for another...Thanks so much

Hi and welcome to you and your boy!

Sorry, I have only a moment to post, but wanted to let you know that your membership is manually approved so just ignore the email notification from us.

Cushing's is a slow progressing disease and a dog can have it for years before it is diagnosed. If this were me, for right now, I would put the Cushing's on the back burner and just concentrate on treating the Valley Fever.

Will be back later and I am sure others will stop by to share their knowledge and advice.

Hugs, Lori

I agree. Focus in the Valley Fever because health issues can skew test results for Cushings and it progresses slowly so it is best to address Cushings last.
