View Full Version : What's on your dog's bucket list?

A year or two ago, while walking my dog in the park, I met a lady who was walking her German Shepherd. She apologized for keeping him at a distance and explained he was very ill with pancreatic cancer and expected to live just a few weeks. When I offered her condolences, she smiled and said "We're working on his bucket list". I loved that she was able to find something positive to focus on.
Shortly after that, I took Pansy to the beach for the first time. She doesn't enjoy the company of other dogs, and people tend to let their dogs off-leash at the beach regardless of rules, so we'd never been. With the help of a friend to run interference at a protected cove, we went to the beach. I can't say she loved it (she hates water) but there was some stinky stuff to sniff, and I think that's a pretty good time for a dog.
What's on *your* dog's bucket list?
I think Pansy's would start with:
1. Get a kitten
2. Eat all the chicken
3. Show that annoying Bella 2 doors down who's boss

I have 2 cats and one dog, an 8 y/o pom whose name is Sampson. Sampson is a total mama's baby and any time that I am petting the cats he gets jealous, so I imagine his bucket list would probably include:
NO Cats!
Remember NO cats or other animals of any kind!
Chicken for all meals

Butters list is very short
Go back to the beach once again.
I use to take her to Fort Funstone ALL the time and we would walk and play and hick up and down the cliff sides. I would call her my sand junkie for she never seemed to get enough, she would run out into the ocean till the waves crashed against her body and she would come running/leeping over and threw the ocean waves with a big ole smile on her face asking me if she could go back in and all I had to do was point and say to go on go play and off she would go. We would do that for the longest time. Watched uncountable number of sunrises and sunsets together at the beach. So I would have to say , she would say walking on the beach with momma and feeling the water and sand under my paws.
OH and sleep in bed with both momma and DADDY, thats it the beach and sleep in bed with mom AND dad.

Rosie's bucket list would include things like climbing mountains, jumping hurdles, a 2 hour belly rub, fetching and counting toys for hours, going anywhere and sleeping all night on my bed. :)

Me too, because that's exactly what I did with Buddy. I told him to go get the lizards as I watched the light leave his eyes. I am still haunted by that day.:o

Pansy would like it noted that despite this thread, she STILL DOES NOT HAVE A KITTEN.

St Francis Angels, a wonderful rescue with a facebook page recently took in a poor dog who's body was covered with aggressive tumors.
Their main caregiver made up a bucket list for Barney and he got cheeseburgers, ice cream, pizza, a warm bed, a spot by a fire and an evening out looking at the stars trying to howl.
they tried to cram a lifetime of good memories into this poor abandoned dog's final couple of weeks.
It was gut wrenching but she said his tail would wag.

On the way home from UC Davis earlier this week, I bought Pansy her first McDonald's cheeseburger. It was a long day, she was a total champ about her tests, and I wanted her to have a treat. We won't be making a habit of it, but she loved it.

Beautiful written. Thank you, It helps ease my pain, because the last one pertains to our cushing babies. I did go on that difficult journey with my Angel Apollo. And weeks before he died,we took him out to dinner and he had salmon. Only the best for my boy. Love, kindness and laughter is what they give us. On their bucket list.
Give me treats
Hug me
Comfort me.
Take me on new adventures.
Ps. Don't give me a bath(not on your life)
Shelter me,etc.
Hugs Sonja and Angel Apollo

Well, Pansy never did get that kitten she wanted, but her last meal the night before the end was a whole can of delicious Weruva Wok The Dog food, followed by half an In-n-Out cheeseburger. And I'm so glad I lifted her up onto the hotel bed so we could hang out up there together for a while like we used to do when she could jump up there herself.
