Piddle Pads or Belly Band

I have to go away for 2 weeks and leaving the dog with someone who just cannot let the dog out every 3-4 hours. What would you recommend is better for Keesh, a belly band or piddle pads? I'm a little concerned that if piddle pads are used, once I get home he's going to think he can pee on the floor where it once was. Thoughts?

If he isn't used to the pads, he may not use them. Some pups take to them pretty quickly, some never do if they weren't trained as puppies. You might ask the person who will be watching him which they would prefer to deal with, too. ;)

Either way, he'll think it's okay to pee in the house but hopefully two weeks won't convince him of that once he gets back home. Not all dogs know what piddle pads are for so if Keesh has never used them, he may not figure it out. If he knows how to use them religiously, then I think piddle pads are the way to go, especially if he's never had on a belly band. I don't like the normal belly bands because the urine is immediately in contact with the skin and can cause irritation. I'm not sure if you've ever tried one but the cheap ones that don't have a pocket get saturated with urine and becomes a nasty, smelly mess. I use baby diapers as they are absorbent, forms a pocket, keeps the urine away from the skin and are disposable. My dogs and most of my rescues have adapted to diapers quite readily. They are all small so the #3 or #4 baby diapers fit perfectly around their bellies. Not sure what size would fit Keesh.

Hi,
I use a belly band with a nappy (diaper) inside on my dog, Brin. He only needs them at night as he never barks to go out but leaks after not going out all night. It is not very often he has a full pee in it but it does stop the wet patch on his bed in the morning. He got used to them very quickly and they do keep his skin and fur dry. I purchased it from Amazon.

There is a lady not too far from here that makes them.

My dilemma is that he is going to have to wear it for about 8 hours a day for around 2 weeks. Are they any good at all for that length of time? Is that asking the poor guy too much?

He used to up until 3 years ago, go to the garage and pee on paper if we left the door open for him. It was great, especially if you had to work late. He hasn't done that in couple of years. so I'm wondering if I can get him used to the piddle pads near the patio door. I also worry that it will then become a habit for good. Ohhhh what to do !!

Well if you want to drop him off on your way out, I'll be glad to watch him. I'm home all day and can let him out any time. :p

I'd feel a whole lot better if I could do just that. Here I am going away to relax, and I can't cancel... but I'm afraid I'll be worse away then if I had stayed. The worry alone is going to kill me I'm sure.

While I'm at work I put down piddle pads for my boys and they do use them during that time. When I am at home they let me know anytime they need to go outside to potty.

I also use the washable pee pads.

I use washable pee pads too. Rosie uses them when no one is home to let her out. The rest of the time she goes outside. It is working very well. Xxxxxx

OH! There's another product that is artificial grass for indoor use. It's in a kind of box that drains the "grass" and you empty then wash and reuse. There are several places that sell them but here is one that will give you the idea -
