I am new to this forum, I'm hoping someone can help me out. My dog has been tested for cushings and the test (the one that they draw blood every 4 hrs) came back as possible cushings as the results were borderline. I have decided not to put her on meds as of yet and start out with a change of her dog food and have her retested in a few months. My dog is a 12 1/2 year old other wise healthy Boston Terrier who is currently eating VéRUS Weight Management Brown Rice, Lamb Meal And Oats Formula Dry Dog Food which has 17% protein. She is not overweight but she is a senior.
Vets recommendation is a low protien dog food, I went to the pet store after I did some homework and found out that most people recommend high protein dog food for cushings dogs. I was confused as my vet told me the exact opposite so I called the doctors office back to make sure that I heard her right. I talked to a tech who repeated low protein. I am so confused and overwhelmed as to what to give my dog. I have started buying chicken and cooking it and giving that to her as well as the dog food listed above. Does anyone have any advice for me?

I'm interested in this too. I feed Elliott Wellness dry small breed but wonder if I should switch to Wellness Core, which is higher protein.

Yay for Bostons :)

Hi and welcome to you and your baby! :)

Typically, we want a low fat and moderate protein diet for our cush babies - fats being more important since these pups are prone to pancreatitis. If I were you and she is doing well on what she is currently eating, I'm not sure I'd be in a hurry to change unless there is some other reason the vet is wanting to lower the protein intake.

Hugs,

The nutritionist told me low density and medium protein, the vet told me they worry about the kidneys with these Cush pups. Blessings

Hi and welcome. I've always heard you need some, like moderate protein and lower fat content.
