Hi there,
Petey has healed well from his German Shepard attack and the Melatonin has worked wonders for his hair growing back after he lost a lot.
Poor Petey is now so itchy and there is nothing on his skin like any bites or fleas, he's just going crazy,we tell him to stop and then he'll rub his whole body on the carpet and anything else he can rub on.
I know allergy pills would probably upset his tummy but I think it just might help, any suggestions?

Hi there yourself! :)
Is Petey a cush pup? If so, I'll move this tread to the appropriate forum.
Meantime, Welcome!

Hi,
It hasn't moved as I don't yet know if your baby has Cushing's or is suspected of having Cushing's, or if you are simply asking about itching. Once I know that, I will know whether or not your question needs to be moved. ;)

Oh! sorry I had a brain fart! I thought I have given all Petey's info but after taking a look, it was on another web site........they knew all about Petey.
Petey is a 10 yr old neutered male Yorkie, with suspected Cushings, Thyroid was Low normal, liver enlarged, and no Diabetes.
He has every symptom (even the small ones) of Cushings. I have him on 95% homemade diet of organic chicken, brown rice, a grain I can't pronounce, oat bran, fresh veggies, ground flax, omega fish oils (3 times a day) digestive enzymes, a product that has over 70 mineral and vitamins from and antioxidants from ocean kelp and blueberries and flax seed. I also have Petey on Melatonin for his hair growth (which worked great!).
Every summer Petey gets the itches and starts to go squirrely, he has no bites or bumps that I can see or feel and because I forgot to write down (last summer) what I did for him, I wanted to know if anyone else's dog goes through this and what they do for it? and is giving Diphenhydramine/Benadryl or Chlorpheniramine safe or not? I don't like the idea of giving him a drug but if it helps him from being driven crazy from itching......
I appreciate any help.
Thank you, Teresa, Petey's Mum

LOL No problem! As one who is intimately familiar with brain farts, I understand! :p I will be moving this to the Questions and Discussions forum and I will include Petey's name in the title so it will be easier for you to find. If you would like the title changed to something that is better for you, let us know.
Hugs,

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Yes you can give Benadryl safely to a dog.
Is it only in summer that he gets itchy?
I see that you have a note about Peety on your profile under visitor message. I'll add it here so all information is available.
Hi, I'm new, Petey my Yorkie has Cushings, he's not fully diagnosed but has every symptom in the book! He's 10 yrs old and I have him on a all natural therapy that seems to be working well, no more bloating, no more weak legs, no more weight loss (diarrhea),no more vomiting and full of spunk!

yes, Petey only gets itchy in summer, and it started about a week ago so it's not like an allergy to grass or something, he used to get the little itchy bumps but I can't feel any....he hasn't eaten anything not on his menu, because we all know what happens if we try to add something!

OK, I feel like an idiot, I figured out why he is itching so bad.............little things called fleas........ Since my cat passed away last summer we haven't had any sign of them, silly us!!
Thanks everyone! Maybe next time I'll have a real problem I can't
solve!

Hey, don't feel bad.;) I was just going to suggest fleas as a possibility when I read your post earlier. I don't know where you are located, but the fleas have been relentless in Southern Calif. this summer, according to the vet. I just adopted a puppy a few weeks ago. She arrived with fleas. It has been a chore trying to get rid of them. Hugs,

Hi:
I just wanted to welcome you. Sorry your baby has fleas. I have heard from others this year that they seem to be really bad. I guess it is the weather. I know you thought your baby has Cushings. Do you have any testing that was done/ If so maybe you could post it so the others on here will be able to help you. Good Luck Blessings
