Meeko, we saved each other!

Meeko is a mini long haired male doxie, he has brought so much joy to my heart, he is 11 weeks old and weighs around 7 pounds, he needs to get to vet soon for puppy check, then I will know for sure how much he weighs, etc.....( kinda dreading vets at the moment ) oh how my life has changed, I miss my Angel Simba so much, but am comforted in knowing he is healthy once again, and running free chasing bunnies....I will post more about Meeko soon......

Of course you miss Simba, it's a heart break to have lost him.
It's just too hard to get through losing him without a dog around to pet and hold. Simba's not suffering anymore...like you said running free, chasing bunnies!
It's just meant to be that this little puppy needed someone and you needed him too. Love the name you've chosen for him...Meeko..so cute!!
I'm so happy for you and your new little one! Can't wait to see him.

Meeko is doing well, he will do his business on our neighbors lawn but not on ours, silly boy, but smart too! He's a sweet little man, loves to snuggle and is just finding out its fun to bite, its a challenge starting over, but I'm so glad I got him....he had a vet check and they found ear mites, so I would say he wasn't taken care of very well :( not very happy...oh well got meds and killing those mites.....one funny story, he is a real clinger and the second day I had him he was whining while I was showering so I open the door and in he came, yes he took a shower wrapped in my arms :)

So back to the vet with Meeko, not only ear mites found 2 weeks ago, but now Coccidia a parasite that causes bloody poo, this is so not fun for my little Meeko....seriously, not a happy camper.....Simba had none of this stuff as a pup, so this is all new to me, despite all of this, Meeko remains confident in his biting, grabbing my pant leg when I walk..as long as he's biting I know he's happy...sending hugs and prayers for you all and your cush babies.....Miss u Sim!!!

I am so sorry to hear that Meeko has Coccidia. It can be hard to get rid of. It is already serious if he is in the bloody diarrhea stage. Many puppies have died from it because they do not have strong enough immune systems to fight it off. Please make sure Meeko gets all of his medications and pick up his stools immediately. The bacteria breeds in soil. Also, check for any stools that Simba may have left. They could be breeding Coccidia. I know that Simba had worms. Please be extra careful when Meeko is out and about. I don't mean to scare you. I just want you to be aware and protect Meeko. Xxxxx

Hey Kathy, I picked up all of Sims poos the day he died, and I pick up Meekos right away when he's done going, he likes bird poo so I have to hurry and get him before he gets that, Simba would always roll in it, so he got lots of baths....Meeko is getting leash trained so I have more control of what he has his eyes fixated on, he's on good food and good treats, so I think he's on the road to being healthy...vet thought he got it at kennel, just like the ear mites, but couldn't say forsure...since we started treatment, his poos are better already, geez I'm still a poo reporter.....thanks for the great advice!

Oh sorry to hear poor Meeko is having to go through treatment. Hopefully it will be over soon and things can be more normal. Everyone needs a break from poop patrol sometime!

Oh dear! Poor Meeko! How is he doing?? I think rabbits are the spreaders of coccidia. He should be feeling much better after a few days on the meds. If it's not one thing it's another!! :eek: Hope those poops are getting all firmed up! ;)

How I found Meeko, well the day I let Simba free, my oldest son was home from Des Moines visiting, and he was worried about me cuz I was a basket case...and he goes Mom you need a puppy, I'm like it's too early, but he called around anyways and found a male puppy that was 11 weeks old and nobody wanted so he would be shipped out tomorrow somewhere....I still said no.....after a restless nite, I went for a ride and stopped at the place where the puppy was...it was about an 45 min drive, anyways I walked in and go is the puppy still here and the lady goes yes, she held it one more day in case I changed my mind....well I really wanted a girl, but the minute I saw his sad eyes I changed my mind...he was mine at that very moment...needless to say from then in he has captured my heart....no he's not like my Sim, but Sim wants me to be happy, so loving and giving a pup a good home is just what Meeko needed and something I desperately needed...

I know that Buddy is in hysterics because I ended up with monkey girl. Definitely not a mighty guardian or hunter, but a sweetheart none the less.

These babies do not take the place of our beloved boys, but they do help give us a purpose to go on.

:D I remember finding a baby tooth on the rug every once in awhile when Trixie was a puppy. I suppose she swallowed most of them, but a few ended up on the floor. I don't think I even realized they fell out until I found those little teeth. You're so right Letti..they are little daggers!

Now we discovered she's lost 2 of her little adult front teeth from the bottom...she looks so funny, like a jack o'lantern! I put a photo up of her showing off her new look. :rolleyes:

I hope little Meeko is settling in to a routine and I know he's bringing you a lot of love, he couldn't have ended up with a better mom :p

Meeko, is true to his name, a naughty little raccoon that gets into everything, he is named after the raccoon in pocahantas, disney lover here..but oh the joy he has brought to my heart, Simba would love him too! All of my bathrooms have toilet paper on counter, not on holder, yep he loves to unroll it.....and he loves my rugs, they are his private office for chewing and peeing, until I quickly scoop him up and throw is little black butt outside, just kidding I wouldn't throw him....he is still biting and my fingers shows the signs of a stubborn little doxie, when I say no he bites more....he gets water bottles stuck under chairs, then barks till I get it unstuck, yes he has me trained well....but everyday I remind him that I am the pack leader, he listens for a minute then goes back to chewing on my fingers....hope i get a grip on that soon....otherwise he eats good and poos good and drinks alittle too, I still find myself watching him drink and poo, cushings on my mind yet, takes awhile...thanks everyone for your encouragement...

Oh my gosh, I couldn't help but just crack up laughing. Meeko sounds so adorable, chewed fingers and all. Got to get that nipped in the bud eh (yep, pun Totally intended). :) Simba Would love him, and probably be exhausted by him too. LOL

It sounds like Meeko is a handful! It's time to assert yourself as pack leader or that little boy is going to run you ragged!:D It sounds like Meeko might be a little on the stubborn side. His nipping can be stopped (or curtailed greatly) with total consistency. Try reacting the same way EVERY time, regardless of anything else that you might be doing. Be calm and assertive, but never angry. He will feel your energy. I searched the web for solutions and picked the one I thought would be best for Rosie. You might want to do the same for Meeko. Rosie reduced her nipping by 95% in one evening. She only nips a little now when I brush out her legs. She hates it! Even that is not allowed.Soft mouths only. Teeth stay away from human skin. No exceptions! Rosie aims to please, so it has worked. You can do it Letti. Put in the time and effort now. It is worth it!

I am so happy to hear Meeko is taking a nibble at your fingers and unrolling toilet paper rolls and being a cute little one as he should. I am sitting at my desk smiling at the picture in my head and I know Simba is enjoying watching the ruckus too and approves.

I understand about letting go of the Cushing worry. My Koko drank a bit more water the other day and I felt my heart go plop to the floor until I chase the bad fear away.:o:o

So Meeko made a friend yesterday, he played with it for awhile, then decided to eat it, yep he likes crickets...made me think of Buddy chasing those lizards!! Anyways, Meeko went to the vet for more puppy shots, and he now has mites on the skin, so on medicine again, something his Mom gave him vet said...always something with this poor pup, I feel like I really did save this poor boy, hopefully get mites cleared up and things should be better....I wish that was the way it was for Sim, I miss him so much.....take care... hugs

Rosie has double ear infections left from the mites that are now gone. We are dealing with that now. Rosie wasn't taking very good care of either before she came to me.

I hope Meeko's mites clear up quickly. Vacuum and change bedding every day. That is the only way you're going to get rid of those suckers!;) xxxx

:D Meeko's enjoying snacking on crickets is he??? Reading your post reminds me of all the naughty things Trixie did when she was a pup!! It's a lot of work but so worth it. Trixie ruined many things in my house come to think of it. We always say damage caused in my home is a tie between my younger daughter and Trixie!! :D My daughter says it's Trixie by a mile...I'm not so sure but at least my daughter didn't chew up any chair legs!!
Wish I knew about the finger chomping,..I feel like I just read an article online about puppy teeth and nipping. If I find it I'll post it on this thread.
So glad you are enjoying your puppy..I remember that Disney raccoon..he was a rascal, guess Meeko is living up to his namesake!! :D

I learned this at puppy school. When the mother dog disciplines the puppy she puts her mouth over his snout sometimes. I put my hand over the top of his snout when he nipped and went ouch sometimes or a stern no. It only took about 3 times and the nipping stopped. I didn't keep his mouth closed, it was only over the top of his snout and
held onto the bottom jaw for 2-3 seconds.
Worked for me.... worth a try maybe.

Meeko is doing well, still being treated for a form of mange, his ear mites are gone, and no more bloody poo, so it's been smooth sailing for awhile...he barks when I say no, he's a character, talks back just like a kid....the biting is slowing improving, and he still has some accidents when I give him to much area to run in.... He's a puppy so it's been different, Simba was not at all like this naughty little raccoon, but he's brings joy to my life everyday, so thankful I have him!! Thanks for checking in on us!

Hey, I have been on vacation, finally home and time to check in!!!!
Meeko is on Royal Canin food from the vet, his poops are great so staying on it...He's a handful but right now asleep on my lap, I keep saying to myself, what did I do? but love him dearly!! I went to visit Simba again, I miss him so much it still hurts at times....Missed you guys...sending hugs and belly rubs all around :)

Meeko is doing well, I'm so sad to see more pups have crossed Rainbow Bridge, this terrible disease takes our loved ones....hugs and prayers...

Meeko is living life to the fullest, we got our first snow and he loves it, I can't keep him inside :) he is almost 6 months old and no more meds, he had a rough start but is doing well now...

I still miss my Simba everyday, but knowing that he is free of pain and chasing bunnies makes my heart smile, slow but sure but never the same....take care
