Brucy my little boy has been drinking lots and lots water and appears bloated in the midriff region. His face seems to have shrunk a little too. He is always hungry and can't hold his bladder.
Doc suspects Cushings. Other than that the only problems are that he is a little stiff when walking and pants after a little exertion.
Doc quotes $130 dollars for a month's supply of Vetoryl.
I can't really afford that at the moment but I really need to try to get the medicine from somewhere cheaper.
I would really appreciate some tips as to where to obtain Vetoryl.
Brucy is a standard dachshund and is 11 years old.
Do you think Ketaconazole helps in this situation ?
Are both these drugs combined in treatment ?
Thank you everyone in advance.

I don't know of anyplace cheaper, but without tests how do you know it's cushings. The people on here will tell you what to do. Good luck and welcome to this great place.

Hi and welcome. Have you actually had a positive diagnosis on Brucy? The same symptoms could be present for other diseases and issues. You would need some tests for positive diagnosis and then also to know the proper dosage for your dog.
Different strengths=different prices.
If you get to the point where your vet has confirmed Cushings from test results you can shop around online for the medication that you choose. I just got a months supply of 10mg Vetoryl for $95 from Dr. Foster and Smith. Then there is compounded doses of the generic Trilostane which bought online is far less expensive.
Hope you can figure out what's up with your little guy. Others will be posting to help you but without any test results, bloodwork or ultrasounds it's hard to know what's going on with Brucy.

Hi Jay and welcome to you and Brucy.
Please see my comments/questions in blue below:

There are a lot of components that are taken into considerating when confirming a diagnosis. Did your vet do any testing or did he diagnose Brucy strictly on physical symptoms and appearance? If no formal testing was done, I would strongly recommend that you not start treatment until appropriate tests are done. If testing was done, can you please round up the test results and post the abnormalities here? The more information we have, the better able we can offer appropriate and meaningful feedback.

Do you live in the U.S. and what dose are you looking for? Dosing is dependent on a dog's weight. How much does Brucy weigh?

With FDA approval of Vetoryl in the U.S. and other countries, Ketaconazole has dropped out of favor due to it's lack of efficacy and adverse effect on the liver. It is ineffective in approximately 30% to 35% of dogs as it is not absorbed into the GI tract. Never, ever combine Ketaconazole and Vetoryl as both are adrenal enzyme inhibitors and to do so would most probably throw a dog into an Addisonian crisis and land a dog in the hospital for a few days or worse.
Thank you everyone in advance.

We'll be anxious to hear more about Brucy and see his test results. Once you let us know where you are located, we may be a in a better position to help you find a better price for Vetoryl.

Jay:
Just wanted to welcome you. What testing has Brucy had to confirm Cushings? These are powerful drugs you do not want to give your dog if Cushings tests have not been performed and confirmed the diagnosis. If you have test results others will want to see the results, so could you post them? There are many reputable pharmacies online to get Vetoryl from. Is that what you are looking for? I will get back to you when I have more time. Blessings
Patti
