Hello everyone!

I really could use some guidance right now. My baby girl, Naduah, who is a 9 year old Pomeranian who was diagnosed with Cushing's a few months ago. She has had problems with urinating in the house a lot so I tried Trilostane for 2 days. Within those two days her need to urinate became more excessive. I took her off the meds and now it has increased even more! She can't stop drinking, has to go potty every 30 minutes...To make matters worse, I look into her eyes and she looks sad. She sometimes appears like she is hobbling. Her days vary. One day she is spry and trots in the house after a potty break and other days Naduah sleeps and sometimes hobbles.

I want to do what is best for her but am weary about Trilostane and am concerned. I wish there was a natural alternative. I feel like if I go to the vet they are just going to tell me continue giving her the Trilostane and not really knowing how it affects her.

I really could use some guidance from someone other than a vet. I sometimes feel apprehensive about relying on the vet because I feel they think the immediate cure is to give drugs. Maybe I am being a hypochondriac but I am worried that something else is going on biologically that I am unaware of and really need help! I don't want to go to the vet and have them tell me to try Trilostane again only to find it doesn't work and that I have to go again and that they were wrong and I am making Naduah feel worse!

Hi Jennifer, and welcome to our family!

I just noticed that you had posted this reply on another member's thread and I have taken the liberty of moving it so that you and your baby will now have a thread that is entirely your own. This way it will be much easier for our members to reply to you directly. :)

Hi Jennifer,

Welcome to you and Naduah from me as well. I am so sorry for the reasons that brought you to us but glad you found your way here.

Could you tell us more about your sweet girl, such as her weight and the dosage of Trilostane she was Rx'd? Also what symptoms did Naduah display that lead you or your vet to test for Cushing's in the first place? Is she taking any other herbs/supplements/medicines? Does she have any other health issues? I was wondering if you could get copies of all tests that were done on Naduah and post any abnormalities that are listed, we are especially interested in the results of any tests for Cushing's. I apologize for all these questions but the more we know about Naduah the better our feedback can be, ok?

You are not alone on the journey, so please know we are here for you and Naduah. And do not hesitate to ask any questions because we will help in any way we can.

Looking forward to learning more about your girl.

Love and hugs,
Lori

Hi and welcome from me too.

It sounds to me there is something else going on. But, first things first...as Lori mentioned, please post the results of the tests performed to diagnose Cushing's.

Have other conditions been checked for - diabetes? Is Naduah on any other medication?

Unfortunately if your pup has Cushing's - drugs are a necessity, unless it is adrenal based and an adrenalectomy is performed (this surgery should not be done lightly and only by a board certified surgeon with loads of experience in this).

Keep us posted

Hi Jennifer and welcome to the site, though I am sorry you and Naduah are going through all of this.

As Lori mentioned earlier, if possible, please get hold of copies of the blood tests that were run to diagnose the cushiness and post the results here for folks to look over. Generally, the more information you can provide, the better the level of help that you will get in return. Cushing's is a very difficult disease to diagnose accurately as there are so very many other things that can mimic the symptoms. Could yo list what symptoms Naduah demonstrated that led to the diagnosis? Were the thirst and peeing the only things or have there been other things that led to the vet visit?

The good thing with cushing's is that there is no great rush to treat it. It is a long and slow progressing disease, so it won't matter if you hold off for a bit - provided you can stand the obvious symptoms. If you are concerned however that there is something else going on, then it is important to get a full picture, starting with the blood results. Also, were any other tests performed? As in an ultra-sound, urinalysis etc? again, if so, grabbing hold of those results will help us be able to steer you along.

Last question for now, how much does Naduah weigh and what dose of trilostane was she put on?

That will suffice for questions for now, but please take a deep breath and know you are not alone. The wealth of knowledge amongst the members here is just awesome, so any questions you have along the way - no matter how big or small - please feel free to post them up and someone will be along shortly to answer. For now, take care and give Naduah a big kiss and cuddle from all of us here.
