First I want to say this is a great site.
I have two Jacks, One is a female Molly 14years old and just as crazy as she was the day I got her. Bless her.
Jack is a male just turned 11years old last week, he has been in the hospital for 5 days so far. He has had diabetes and has for 6 years.
He gets 7cc's of Humalin twice a day, he has been ok up until the last 30 days, he has lost 2 pounds and the vet first diagnosed him with pancreintits, now he thinks its Cushins, being his glucose levels cant be stabalized and he has all the symptoms of Cushings.
The dog has his good and bad days, I read the symptoms and it seems this may be the issue. The vet is keeping him until Tuesday being he has sent test to the lab.
I hope and pray this is whats wrong.
Thanks
Ray

Hi and welcome to you and Jack,
Is your vet performing a spec cPL test on Jack, this test is specific for diagnosing pancreatitis. If Jack does have pancreatitis this condition along with the diabetes will be need to be under control first before any tests for Cushing's are done.
Could you tell us exactly what symptoms Jack is displaying that leads your vet to think it's Cushing's? Other non-adrenal illnesses, such as diabetes, share many of the same symptoms as Cushing's so confirming a Cushing's diagnosis can be difficult to do.
Please know we are here to help in any way we can so do not hesitate to ask any and all questions.
Love and hugs,
Lori

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Do you by any chance have copies of the bloodwork that was done on Jack? I'd be interested to know if the Lipase was elevated or other values high/low.
I totally agree with Lori, that the test for pancreatis that she mentioned should be done to see if that is it or not.
Cushings tests can be false positive if there are other illness present at the time of testing.
I do hope that Jack will be okay and come home to you soon. I know it is very worrying when they aren't right there next to you.
I have a Molly too. I always think of rambuncious bouncing joy when I think of a molly. :)
Again welcome

Ray:
Hello and welcome to you and your Jack Russells. I too have a wonderful and precious Jack named Tipper. She is my whole world. I have been devastated by her diagnosis of Cushings, and I am doing anything and everything within my power ti keep her going ok. I know what you mean about crazy, as my Tipper is as crazy as the day I got her, and that is what is most endearing to me about her. Her independence, free spirit, intelligence beyond what you could imagine, and her extreme loyalty are traits not found in many dogs. She is my once in a lifetime treasure. I wish you and your babies success in dealing with the Cushings. Just put one foot in front of the other and pray a lot. God Bless You and your babies.

Hi Ray and welcome to you and Jack! :)
If you are not a member at our sister site, K9diabetes, please go over there now and register. They are the experts on diabetes and can offer some excellent advice. http://k9diabetes.com/forum
Also, don't waste any money on testing for Cushing's right now - the odds are you will get a positive result but that could very likely be a false-positive. Cortisol will rise in the face of any stress including out of control diabetes. ;) An elevation in cortisol does not always mean Cushing's - not by a long shot!
I'm glad you found us and hope to hear more soon!
Hugs,
