Well so far so good with Trixie on 10g 2x a day. Counting the days until the test though because who knows if the cortisol is slowly rising, I'm hoping it's not...no Cushings symptoms at this point.
Trixie is doing fine, lots of exercise while we are having this perfect weather...supposed to start 3 days of rain tomorrow so we'll do another long walk later and get the most out of this beautiful day.
Today's drama is that my March shipment of vetoryl still never turned up..
I realized it is totally wrong of Lambert to drop the ball and take no responsibility for the lost package. They took my money but didn't deliver and because the transaction was not completed they owe me the meds or the money. Of course I am waiting for them to call me back. I spent so much wasted time holding for the post office and when I finally do get to speak with someone there's no resolution. Their customer service is non-existent!
I should have never let Lambert tell me this isn't their problem because it is. Also they sent 1st class mail, no insurance and according to the P.O. they spent all of a dollar on shipping..which I got for free. So yeah, thanks alot for the free $1 shipping!!
Sorry for this rant I just had to vent!! Is this anyway to treat a regular customer?--not to mention all the referrals given to people here on the forum to use Lambert for their prescripts.
OK...no one from Lambert has called back in over an hour...so here I go again!
Hope all you who are in the midwest are safe from those tornadoes...very frightening to even be threatened by the possibility.

Maybe they should get several calls from us about this just to let them know they HAVE been recommended to our family here and we CAN put a stop to that. ;)

Barbara:
Please call Lambert and ask for the pharmacist. Tell him you want your money now! You have a earned the right after all this to really give it to them!! Tell them you are not getting off the phone until this is resolved. Go get em Barbara! Tipper has 2 different thunder shirts, neither did anything for my girl, but make her hot. She is one tough cookie to try and help. It is getting black here any I see rain drops on the road. I see the TV says bad storms coming this way!! Just great!

Wow, unbelievable about Lambert. That is so frustrating!! They definitely owe your money back, and an apology.
I have been using californiapetpharmacy, and so far (knock on wood!), it has been going very well. The meds are sent priority and always insured, and I get free shipping for spending over $75. They don't compound trilostane though, just sell brand name vetoryl.

Yay! Got my money back from Lambert, they are crediting my card today.
The sales person I talk to there was instrumental in rectifying the situation with the supervisor-who never got back to me. It was really not handled well but at least now I'm not out the money.
I should not have been so accommodating when they kind of said "well we shipped it so..." but I figured it would eventually get here and I backed off when I should have demanded they deal with it. Today when the post office gave me the run around yet again, I thought to myself-why am I doing this and not Lambert???
Today I told them it's the merchant who has the responsibility of getting the shipment to me..I don't buy it "in hopes that I might receive it", I expect the package to be delivered and it's their responsibility to do that.
Anyway.. at least they made good on it even though they should have done so right away.
I feel so much better! :D

WhooHooo Barbara! So glad they made good on the money they owed you. Bugger that it took so long though. hmpphhh!!
Awee, yay, glad that Trixie is doing good and no more paw issues. Molly sort of stretches her leg out in front of her when she stands up sometimes. Weird, I wonder if it is a tendon or ligament pull.
Enjoy the good weather. Molly has had a couple walks today and I plan one more before the rain starts tonight.

I did not see if you were to get this storm, but for Trixie's sake I hope it passes you up. Tipper is really acting upset and on high alert. Would not poop this morning either. I feel so bad she goes thru this. There won't be any walking today!! Blessings

Hey Barbara, good on you, sticking to your guns got a great outcome! Fantastic to hear no new paw problems or anything else... I bet you are counting down the days to test her again! Paws crossed for good results, hopefully your getting some nice Spring walks in... I bet the flowers are lovely in the parks there! xx

Hi and Happy May Day!!
We had the biggest rain storm last night...no thunder or lightening but it was a deluge, it rained very hard for hours. 5 inches of rain in Central Park yesterday-that is a lot!! Trixie did not want to go out last night and it took a couple of trips after 11pm before she would do her business out there! Can't say I blame her! She was so soaked when she came in I had to use the blow dryer on her, a brisk toweling was not enough to get her dried off.
There was a flood in one area of the park this morning...there is a little sunken garden with a raised circular pedestal statue and flower bed which is surrounded by benches. The water filled up all around it and it looked so much like a pond that a pair of mallards were paddling around in it!! It was attracting a lot of attention!
The cherry trees were exploding and it was beautiful but still a little drizzly and foggy when we were there earlier. The sun just came out, so we'll do another walk later...beats cleaning the house!!
Trixie has been 100% fine on 20mg...yes, Trish I am anxious to take her next week for an acth...it would actually be good if she requires less Vetoryl but we'll have to see. The limping-or was it leg weakness(??) disappeared completely. I'm pretty convinced it was from having her level go a bit too low. We'll see. I have seen no symptoms popping out after I took away 8mgs a week ago unless it's still too soon to notice it.. but so far so good.
I'm just grateful she's doing so well. She never had a big belly issue but she would get a little bloated looking between the enlarged liver and the weight gain..but it's all gone. She's looking so svelte again..right in time for her 10th birthday on Saturday! :) I'll post her newest picture.

Barbara:
Thank you for the helpful insight, it truly means a lot to me and helps me think this thru. I will be praying for Trixie to have good numbers so she does not have to have her dosage changed. We had that storm too, it was awful, but thank God no thunder. I think if we get thunder on top of all we have been thru this week I will be in the closet along side Tipper! All kidding aside, we cannot get her blood pressure going because the eye Dr. said that could be devastating. The stress of
all this is getting to me. Think positive for next week, and just pray on it.

I'm kind of late in the day announcing that today Trixie turned
10 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She had an extra long off leash walk in the park and because it was her birthday we patiently let her sniff at everything she wanted to and when she annoyingly barked at the turtles swimming in the pond we let her go at it about 3 minutes...that would be 2 and a half minutes more than usual, and we gave her extra treats on our way out...so a pretty great walk for Trixie!!
I wish I could've presented her with a big plate of raw chopped meat for a birthday supper but she got her regular plate of low fat food and lots of extra kisses! :p
For a birthday wish we hope her health stays as good as it is today!!

This week is Trixie's stim right? I pray she shows good numbers and does not need an increase. Today looks like it will be great, nice and sunny, but not too hot for Tipper. Hope you and Trixie have a good time at rthe park. We are due for a bad thunderstorm tomorrow, hope you do not get it! Blessings

awwww...thanks everyone for all the sweet birthday wishes for Trixie! :D
Yes, Patti...as I write this Trixie is at the vet having her acth. I hate leaving her there and I'm hoping they call me soon to pick her up....it should only be another half hour or so. Poor girl tried to get back to the front door. :( She's going to get some good treats and have another walk once I get her!!
She's been well controlled on 10mg 2x day. I hope her numbers look good and match my observations. :)

Barbara
Isn't that funny how we worry about that? Every time I think symptoms are well controlled, I worry the numbers won't back it up, and then I'll be doubting myself.
I hope her numbers are good. 10mg 2x a day is a great dose to be at! I wish we were there with Tobey! She's at 20mg 2x a day (boy do I run through those boxes of vetoryl!).
Trixie
05-06-2014, 05:05 PM
yes, Renee I would be really happy to be keeping her on this reduced dose. I believe that this 20mg has been doing the trick. Even if her number is up from the last acth the fact that she's well controlled should uphold this dose, as long as the numbers are still in the normal range.
I have been measuring Trixie's water intake for a year now and I still do it even though she seems fine. She is drinking so normally now...about a cup a day give or take. It's my best gauge to her control as it was her most prominent symptom.
I'm curious to see the results...hopefully by Thursday. :)

Funny enough...Trixie did not want any extra walking...the stroll back from the vet was enough for her. When I tried to head over to the park by the river she was having none of it. Wanted straight back home after her time at the vet...awww...she's all settled in and having a nice rest, after treats of course!
It always feels so much better after the vet visit, doesn't it!!?? :D

Barbara:
Glad you got her home, she probably just wanted the security of her home after a day at the vets with a very unpleasant test!
So, more importantly than numbers is how Trixie is doing:):):)
It seems like the new dose agrees with her unless I missed a post. I try to follow when I can.
It will be fine, Barabra. Sometimes the acth test and vet visit throws them off a bit.
I did want to check to see what was going on as I knew the test was coming up.

05-07-2014, 04:37 PM
Thanks for checking in Addy. Trixie has been doing fine...I wasn't too worried about her wanting to come right home after the vet..she does that after the groomer too. I think after both the vet and the groomer she just wants to get back to her spot on the couch! :)
I will definitely be going with how she is and not on the numbers alone...it's now just about 2 weeks on a reduced dose and not a Cushing's symptom in sight! (knock wood!) :D

Trixie

Just got our test results in.
Pre: 3.0
Post: 3.4
Her November numbers were:
Pre:1.6
Post:2.7
Normal range for Trilo/Vetoryl Pre&Post 1.5-9.1
So- I think these are fine being that she is well controlled and so does the vet. I'll continue to watch that symptoms don't start to creep back in. I read on Dr. Peterson's blog that he doesn't care for numbers in the 2.0-2.5 range, which we were close to on the last test. He also says that with many dogs the dose can be decreased over time..so even though these numbers are higher than Nov. I am more comfortable giving her less medication if she stays controlled the way she is now. If that changes we'll reassess the dose.
Renee
05-07-2014, 06:16 PM
YAY! Those are perfect, perfect numbers!! And, yay for the decreased dosage while still maintaining good symptom control.

I actually really like these numbers Barbara, even better than the previous ones.
Numbers are important, but as we all know around here, it is not Just the numbers and Trixie was not as good on the previous dose or with her numbers that low (they might have continued to go lower, we don't know) so it is what is good for her, for our energizer Trixie.
If symptoms come back, then you add in a mg somewhere, but I would keep an increase low, since you now know what dose doesn't work as well for her.
So happy to see this! You made the right call!

So happy to see these numbers. I too think they are better than the ones before. You may have to get some 2mgs later if you think her cortisol is going up. I am glad she is doing so well on less trilostane. Her leg problems may be from lower cortisol like you said. Now you can take a deep breath!! Blessings

Oh good...I'm glad you all like how the numbers look. :) I feel it's kind of a safe place being that her symptoms are all controlled, and like you said Sharlene she could have gone lower after that last test..I suspect she may have.
Patti, I was thinking the exact same thing about having 2mgs on hand for the future if needed. I have a whole bunch of 4mgs which I had received right before I decreased the dose. Oh well. Like I said I'm happy to stay on the lower dose...hope we can hold steady there for awhile. :p

Barbara;
Tipper was beyond terrified the two nites ago. We had the worst thunder that shook our house for what seemed like minutes, and went on all nite long. I was thinking of Trixie and wondering if you got it too? So for two days Tipper was panting. I do not think the meds need changed, but rather her cortisol soared from being scared to death. She seems ok now. This is to last thru Thursday so I cannot wait until Friday and it goes away. Is Trixie still doing well on this dose? Blessings
Patti
Ugg these storms, it took hubby over an hour to get home the other night, cars were STOPPED on the expressway:eek: His hands were shaking, I have never seen him so upset.

Hi everyone,
Haven't had a chance to log on these last few days. I had to go pick up my daughter Katherine from college...another year flew by! I feel like we just took her for Freshman year and now she's finished Sophomore already!
Now between things that are still not put away from my parents house and stuff from my mother in laws apartment I can add all my daughters college stuff!!
I have major organizing to do over the summer...by the time I finish dealing with all this stuff Katherine will be on her way back to school!
Trixie has been doing fine, still controlled. Some kind of little tummy trouble last night...she jumped off our bed at 2am wanting to go out. I always think the worst..my husband took her out and I was waiting for them in the living room practically freaking out, I could not wait for them to get back inside. I was so relieved when my husband said all was okay. No diarrhea or anything but some soft poop, and he said she kind of strained a bit. I'm giving her a few doses of metrod. just in case this is a little irritable bowel or something. She's been fine all day, good appetite, only pooped a little bit today, getting closer to normal this afternoon.
We had some heavy rain but not too much in the way of thunder, though we may get that tomorrow. Trixie is definitely not as bad with the rain lately. She'll still sometimes hide under the kitchen table if she hears the wind but no shaking, that's no thunder and lightning though.
So..I must catch up with everyone posts, which is what I'm going to do right now. :D
oh!! 4got to say...can you believe that shipment of Vetoryl from March finally arrived?? I called the girl who helps me there to tell her...didn't really want to but also didn't want to be dishonest. At least I have 2 months ready to go now.

Hi Barbara
Sounds like you have been busy with both girls this week, do you have Katherine home for a while now? Be lovely to have her with you for a while. That Trixie still giving you the odd scare, I wish we could get used to the ups and downs but they still can give us a heart flutter with a nasty poop!! Glad hers did not materialise too bad this time and the meds keep it under control this time. Flynn's have been so good lately I have taken the big step of letting him outside on his own, he likes it I think, has a good bark on his way out too. Suits me as the temps are getting down to freezing at night, looking forward to a few good frosts to keep the flea population down!! Hope you got a lot of storage space, sounds like your going to need it! xx

That does sound like a busy schedule. How great though to have Katherine home for awhile.
pffft I am still clearing stuff in my basement from grandmothers house in NYC, hmm..yea, 10 years or more ago now!! I know, procrastination and if I don't go down rummaging around too much, then I don't have to acknowledge that I still need to clear a bunch of it from boxes. hahahaha

Hi everyone,
Still coming out from under all Katherine's clothes and making room in the closets for her dorm stuff--or I should say trying to make room. She is home until the end of August when school starts up again.
So I've been keeping close tabs on Trixie...her drinking is still normal but I've noticed in the evening about a half hour before her 10pm pill is due she's has panted a little bit...just a bit but it wasn't exactly hot in the room. It's always hard to tell with her appetite because she's never been one to turn down food.
I'm going to keep watching and if I see that it keeps happening I may ask the vet for a prescript for 2mgs...and maybe do 12mg in the morning and 10 at night and see if that makes a difference. Just like Patti said, I may end up needing some 2mgs.
Other than the little panting episodes she's been just fine.
We never did have any big thunder storms here like so many of you did. Maybe storms here tomorrow...we'll see, according to the forecast we may be missing the morning walk. :( Hope all is well with everyone! ;)
Barbara
Hi Barbara,
It must feel good to have your daughter home despite her dorm stuff taking over the house:):):):)
I was wondering, does Trixie pant when she has tummy issues? I just wondered if there was a connection between her having to poo in the middle of the night and the slight panting you are seeing.
Zoe would always pant if her tummy bothered here so that rang a bell.;)
Hope you have good luck with the house. I postponed our pool opening for 2 weeks. I just have so much yard work I need to get done before having to take care of the pool too:o:o plus it has not exactly been pool weather around here, though yesterday it was 80 but that was unusual.
Did you do any painting at your mom's house? I keep reading about the popular neutral colors people use to sell their house but they don't really go with mine. We have a 50's ranch and I have Hawthorne Gold in the living room, Fresh Air Vanilla in the kitchen and foyer and both hallways off the foyer and kitchen. A custom yellow in one bedroom, gondola dark green in our bedroom and the other rooms are off white to match all the woodwork. I keep wondering if I should paint everything one color or pick a color and move up and down the paint strip from light to dark. Do you have any advice?
I hate devoiding my personality from my home:mad:

I am so glad to hear that Trixie is doing well at this dosage. I hope she continues on the lower dose, but ordering the 2mg is a good thing so you have some wiggle room with the dosage. I have a little pharmacy here from all the dosage changes! I bet you are happy to have your daughter with you for a while. Hope your moms house goes quickly so you have that off your shoulders. It looks like rain here again today, and we had the worst storm and rolling thunder last nite. Poor Tipper is struggling. Blessings

Hi Addy...about the panting--yes--she did some panting when she had the bad poop last week. I was actually a little relieved when she did have the bad poop because I realized that explained the panting. The last two nights she panted, and really it wasn't anything that lasted too long and right before she was due her pill. No bad poops but it could be just nothing. I'm keeping my eye on her, in fact I watch her like a hawk and I think she is still fine on this dose. I'm going to see if it happens the same way the next few nights but right now I'm not all that worried. I just kind of jump on anything I see that resembles Cushings symptoms in anyway. She's been fine, it was just those little panting episodes.
Now about the painting...haha :D Yes- we did paint inside the house. We removed wallpaper from bathrooms, (my mother loved wallpaper) and painted the walls white...not too bright, kind of eggshell. Very boring color but it just looks clean. My parents turned a 3rd bedroom into a big walk-in closet and dressing room and we painted that too. It was their retirement home so they took liberties with the bedrms. The 2nd bedroom became a guest room and housed my kids all the time. :) We also painted the hallway and the living room. My parents lived there since about 1986 when they were in their late 60's. They redid the whole place at that time but not much was done after that other than keeping everything in decent shape, but no renovating. It can easily go back to a 3 bedroom but we are not doing anymore work in the house because I think someone may end up really re-doing the whole place..maybe even adding on a second floor which can easily be done. It needs a new kitchen and baths but as I said we won't be doing it.
Thanks Patti, I hope it sells soon too!! We had some action the first week and since then it's been quiet. Hope now with the nice weather home shoppers will be out looking.

Hi Barbara:
Just wondered if you got the cooler weather yesterday? We had a cold front come in and Tipper likes that. I will be brewing her some herbs today as we are to get something going on here Tuesday. Blessings

Barbara, Flynn pants more when his tummy is upset. Generally he gets a bit lethargic and slow, goes to run but goes back to walk as I his tummy is sore, eats grass, goes off food if it is real bad.
I love colour in a house, but I do like the walls fairly plain so I would like eggshell and then shuzz it up with coloured accessories!! I have been looking at some feature wallpapers though, some gorgeous ones available these days. I have memories of Mum and Dad redecorating when we were young and spending HOURS peeling off wallpaper, love that feeling when a big bit would come off in one piece haha, but other times we would be pick pick picking for ages. Never had the fancy machines to take it off back then!! Nice memory of the family all working together and talking while we did it! xx

Hi Barbara:
We woke up to frost on the ground, and it is really cool. the furnace has been coming on too, after all that cleaning I did! Hope you have the cool temperatures so Trixie will enjoy her walks. We have garage sales here this weekend so I must keep Toby under wraps, as he wants to bark at all the people. Tipper had a decent nites sleep for once! I think no rain until Tuesday so I am glad, she needed this break before having a nervous breakdown. Blessings

Yes-- both Addy and Trish had it right on, panting was a tiny bit of tummy trouble or should I say an intestinal upset.. it turned out no more panting episodes after it cleared up. Glad it was not Cushings panting because I'm really happy having Trixie on the reduced dose.
The panting (and there wasn't much of it) had everything to do with a passing bout of whatever....colitis, irritable bowel, bacteria overgrowth, or maybe it's just something that happens once in awhile with her digestive system.:confused: The vet gave me the flagyl/metrod for just such an instance and it works like a charm.
Trixie had some semi- bad poops...no diarrhea and actually nothing so terrible, I've seen way worse. Being that we have to pick it up here in the city I get a pretty good look at it right after she does it!!:rolleyes: She had some mucous and a tiny tinge of blood on the poops so I right away gave a few days of metronidazole and it does the trick. She's been fine since and no indoor panting.
No vomiting and it did not effect her other than the little bit of panting I saw.
It was very hot yesterday and though not in distress on our walk, I can see the heat gets to her more quickly than it used to, but she's fine. Today is cool and cloudy and it feels great because I can't stand the heat anymore either!! We blasted the a/c yesterday!
I bumped my elbow and hit the nerve so hard I felt like I got an electrical shock. So for the past week I had the worst nerve pain-ala tennis elbow- with pain in my wrist and 4th & 5th fingers. The computer makes it worse so was not on as much as usual. Just catching up with everyone today. Hoping to see more good news than bad!

Barbara:
I did that once to my elbow, I know exactly what you mean about that electric shock feeling, wow that hurts. So glad Trixie is still doing well on the lower dose.I feel the least amount you have to use, the better. It is sad how the heat gets to these pups now. Tipper used to want to be out all day, now all she wants is in the house with the air on. Hope your fingers don't give you trouble for long. Blessings
Patti
Ouch, that sounds like it hurts. Nerve pain is a major owie.
I am pleased it is not Trixie's Cushings and super glad that the metronidazole set things right.
You had quite the heat wave, I think DC was even hotter. We had mid 80's Monday then a storm blew in and today we thought we may have to put the furnace on:eek::eek:
Get well soon!!!:)

Hi Barbara
Hitting your funny bone is not funny at all.. is it!! OUCH!!! Wonder why they call it a funny bone, hmm something else for me to google :p
I do wonder if Trixie has a touch of IBD with her little bad poop episodes? Hopefully they are few and far between if it is. They are always such a worry when they become unwell, do you think it gets worse with certain foods or anything like that?
Hope the NY weather is treating you well this week, not too hot and you have been out and about with our cute girl :D
I have that website Humans of New York on my FB and often wonder if you and Trixie walk by some of the places they show :)

I love Humans of New York Trish!!
Good point about the IBD for Trixie. I think Molly might have a touch of it too the way that she gets these poop upsets. Reminds me to check the ultrasound for what it says about intestines, stomach, etc
got to run, bad movie still on

I know, you gave me the link once!! I have since found out there is a similar one in Auckland too, probably all over the world! Such an interesting collection of photos from day to day life. Just goes to show, you might walk past someone in the street and never know what is really on their mind, I find it really interesting!!
Flynny's US report initially said mild thickening of small intestine, that gave us a hint of the problem.
molly muffin
06-01-2014, 09:58 PM
Nope that is not it then. Small intestine is normal, colon is normal., stomach is normal. Bile duct normal.
Barbara you should have Trixie's last ultrasound report to see if it showed anything.

Hi everyone...here I am trying to catch up with posts again. So yes, Trish--Humans of NY is fun and I also follow that page on FB...I like The Dogist even better!! Great dog photos...mostly NYC but other places as well. I really want Trixie to get photographed for The Dogist. I don't know who "The Dogist" is, but he/she seems to shoot in the places we walk all the time! We must have missed out several times already.
So as usual I am watching Trixie all the time for subtle changes. I feel she may be showing a little bit of symptomatic stuff in the evening towards the time her 2nd dose is due at 10pm. I'm seeing a little panting and some rapid breathing and everything else (tummy, poops) are fine. The rapid breathing was something that was very noticeable before she was controlled. Even right now she's sleeping here next to me and I notice her breathing is a little faster than normal. It's not nearly as bad as back when she was uncontrolled but shes been breathing normally for months now.
Maybe I need to add back 4mg to the daytime dose?? We went from 14mg to 10mg on each dose...so maybe she could get 14mg in the morning and the 10mg in the evening? I have a whole bottle of 4mgs...or should I start with 2mg and see? I would have to get 2mgs as I don't have them on hand. I have been watching for a few nights now but haven't added anything yet..wanted to gather some opinions first. My vet is off today but I'll check with him Monday. Her drinking is still normal about a cup to 12 oz a day. What a difference from a year ago!!! In the last couple days she drank more than in the week before though..hard to tell there being she's out walking and it's warm out. I just don't want things to start back up internally, ..especially the liver numbers which took so long to come down. I may try adding the 4mg tomorrow on the morning dose only and see how it goes, unless you all think that I shouldn't.
Sharlene...the last ultrasound, when she was in the hospital showed a slight thickening in her intestine...they said this could be a little overgrowth...they didn't say anymore about it. They didn't seem concerned but next time we do one I suppose it should be checked. Everything else was normal..that was back in early March.
The poop incidents have been sporadic maybe we have some bad poops once every 6-8 weeks?...she usually has some mucous, that's the tell tale sign and when I give her the metronidazole.
My husband is home early and the weather is about as close to perfect as we get so I think we'll give Trixie a bonus walk to the park! Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Sounds like a great plan! A walk in the park is always good and considering the parks you have available... well, I'd be out there too. :)
Oh wouldn't that be fun if Trixie got her picture on the Dogist!
You could try the 14mg in the morning or in the evening, it's only a half an increase to what it was 14mg twice a day. Wouldn't hurt to probably get some 2mg to have on hand though, just because Trixie seems to waffle around between those ranges. It would allow more tweak ability I think.
Go enjoy!

Have a great weekend...I imagine your weather is beautiful too. The weather here today we call "Canada Weather"!! Blue sky, cool breeze, no humidity..it's so nice. I wish the whole summer would be like today. It's going to warm up tomorrow a bit but still good weather for the Belmont Stakes!! Hoping California Chrome ends up with the Triple Crown. Hi Barbara:
Well you probably already know what I am going to say. I would get the 2mg. I would not give one mg more than is needed to do the job. It is so tricky with these dosages. You think it's all going great and boom the panting starts! You are like me you notice every little thing that is different. I am worried Tipper is low on her pre number from her reaction to some mowing today. Now she is nervous about people mowing and that never happened before all these storms. I think she is half crazy from noise now. I hope you get the right dosage for Trixie and her symptoms stop. Are you going to do the ACTH in 2 weeks after changing her? Blessings

Barbara, that is the same as Flynny's scan, with the slight intestinal thickening. Good idea to have them take a closer look at that area for the next scan. Hope you hit the magic dose for her with a little tweak! x

Real cool here last nite in the 40's again. Lots of dew outside. I hope you are getting these cooler days as I bet Trixie will want them back when July and August come around. Any more Cushings signs popping up? Blessings

Hey Barbara, what fun to be in NYC today with the excitement of the Belmont and what a lucky daughter you have to actually go.
colitis- look for stool with a small tail, is the first poo of the day the best poo? Does it look shiny at all ? These are signs that Trixie maybe be headed for the mucus stools, then loose stools.
trilostane- I pretty much agree with Sharlene's opinion. You can always try 4mgs in the am, knowing you can switch to adding 2 and 2 if you need to.
I will have to check out these Facebook pages. I dont go on it much but I admit to be being curious.
Maybe the couple will change their mind about asking for the pool to be opened. We pay about $500 which includes all the chemicals and the first vacuum (worms, yuck) of course any repairs are more and that does not include any type of service to our heater which it seems is on life support but it is 13 years old. But we have been with these guys for 13 years so. Our pool is filled to the top from all the rain.
It wont be pretty when they come next week. This is the latest we ever have opened our pool. Last year we asked what would happen if we did not open it. They told us it would become a mosquito magnet and it was not a good idea.
Go Chrome!!!!:D:D:D:D:D
Hi Barbara,
Oh gosh, how exciting for your daughter, that should be a wonderful experience. But I agree, you have to be young to be able to handle crowds like that and then to wait that long to get on the train to come back home! I'm looking forward to the race too and I'm totally pulling for California Chrome, it should be so exciting. I will be watching it from the comfort of my couch as well. :D
Glad to read that Trixie is doing so well. You are doing such a nice job with her Barbara. I don't know enough about Trilostane to comment there, but it sounds like the others have it covered. I'm doing a little catch up on the forum today also and am needing to use the voice feature on my iPad in order to post because I can't type right now. (Long story, I'll be posting on Jaspers thread in a couple minutes). So it is a bit of a challenge getting adjusted to this but it does pretty well, I usually just have to go back and do a few corrections here and there.
I do not have a Facebook account, do you think I would still be able to see that Dogist page to see those photos? It sounds so interesting, I'd really like to give it a try if I could. I don't know too much about Facebook since I don't have an account.
I hope you are successful with selling your Mother's home without having to mess around with the pool. Boy that really sounds involved, and you guys have done so much work already.
I wish I could a get recent pic of Shelby so I could put it in our album and you could see her. She looks so much like Trixie, it is unbelievable. She hates to have her picture taken now and runs immediately if she thinks I'm even going to try to sneak it. Sometimes when she's sitting and looking up at me I look at her and I say out loud to her "you look just like Trixie". :)
Enjoy the race Barbara, and have a great weekend!
Hugs,
Tina and Jasper

Hi Barbara,
I am such a worry wart, I saw your post on Tina/Jasper's thread that you use the chicken broth that comes in a foil box, does it contain onion or onion powder? I just wanted to make you aware that dogs can get an onion toxicity known as Heinz-body anemia. I've read where small amounts of onions ingested should not be a problem but who knows for sure?? And like I mentioned, I am such a worry wart. :o

06-09-2014, 02:58 PM
well Lori you are correct!! I use all different brands...whatever I find on sale and the one in the fridge now is "Kitchen Basics" does say vegetable stocks added (carrot, onion, celery). !!! I know dogs should never have onions and you know, I have never checked for them!! I am always so watchful of the fat content and I usually check every label on everything I give Trixie!! First checking to make sure whatever she eats is made in this country and then always looking for fat and any added sugars...but I didn't check for onion!!!
So glad you pointed this out. Thankfully I barely add any to the water I use to cook the chicken...usually a few splashes. Pretty sure Trixie will eat it whatever way it comes...that splash of broth is probably more for me than her...seems like it would taste better and it definitely smells better with the broth.
I'm just checked online the other brands I use some list the same-vegetable stock which includes onion. I see Swansons does not list onion or vegetable stock and Low sodium Campbells condensed canned does not either but does say 'flavoring". I will further investigate and figure out which I can use...or use none!! Thanks Lori!!

Barbara:
They used to put some onion is baby food years ago. I feed it to my cats when they are sick so even though they don't do it anymore I check the labels. For cats it is even worse they get really sick. Hope you and Trixie get to walk if you are getting this storm today. High energy dogs are miserable when they cannot burn off that energy. I know Tipper get depressed and pouts. I am glad Trixie is controlled again. Tipper was doing a little panting yesterday when it started getting dark outside I think it was just anxiety as she has not done so since. She is drinking more water than usual, but not a any great amount. Blessings

Hi everyone! I haven't checked in for awhile. Between stuff from my parents house and my mother in law's place I have had major organizing to do. It didn't help that my daughter came home with all her stuff too. Sometimes it's good not to have a garage or attic because I can't just bunk stuff away...I have to clean out and purge, but right now I could really use one more large closet! Anyway it has taken all my time these last few weeks just to undo the girl's room. Had to get rid of desk top computers in the house, relocate printers, get rid of old electronics, box up doll collections for storage...all that kind of stuff and I"m still not finished. Thank goodness there are nearby places to donate and Staples to recycle the old electronics. This all comes after doing my mother's house for months and my mother in laws too. Needless to say I am SO sick of stuff!
Now that's my excuse for not posting and I have to catch up on all the news here.
Trixie is doing great....(always knock wood after I say something like that). She does not do well in the heat and we had some hot humid days, so we try to get in a decent morning walk before it gets too bad out. Today is a perfect day here..cool breezy morning, and she had a great walk. A number of weeks ago I added back 4mg Trilo (of the 8mg I took away) so she's on 14mg in the AM and 10mg in the PM. It's still going fine with that dose.
We had some violent thunder storms this past week. Trixie definitely reacted and spent time hiding in the bathroom or under a table. She is less stressed by it than she was last summer, no shaking or drooling, so it's an improvement.
Hope all is going fine with everyone and your pups. I'll be catching up on threads later tonight. Still haven't sold my parents home...hoping we will before the summers over.

Yucky storms, but glad that Trixie seems better this year with them than last. We've only had a couple storms that has any thunder and lightening so far this year. Mostly it is just rain that comes. I'm fine with that and so is molly. :)
So glad Trixie seems to be holding well at this dosage. That is great news!

Great news on Trixie!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
We still have some of my mom' stuff in our basement, so does my brother. It can be a process. College kids adding to the pile - oh my- what to do with all their stuff:rolleyes::) It is amazing how much "stuff"
we can accumulate! I have made countless bags of stuff for our Goodwill and have not made a dent. The worst was going into the girl's closest and seeing an endless row of swimsuits that dont fit anyone anymore parked next to an endless row of my mom's coats that she cant wear anymore. STUFF!!!!!;):):o
I love early morning walks. I bet the city is beautiful in the early morning. I can just imagine the sounds and smells and the light.

Hi Everyone! :) Sorry I haven't checked in for awhile but I have been thinking of all of you! Seems like this summer has flown by...feel like I just picked up Katherine from the end of her sophomore year and next week I'm taking her back up to school already!
Trixie has been doing great. (knock wood knock wood knock wood) I never take her health for granted, I'm so grateful she's well. We've been so lucky with the medication and she's been well controlled on 24mg a day. I give her 14mg in the morning and 10 in the evening.
She's had a couple minor tummy upsets but nothing too bad. After last winter's bout of pancreatitis I admit that I freak out at the slightest hint of a bad stomach..just don't want her to go through that again! The vet does think she has a touch of irritable bowel and have given me the okay to use the metronidazole as needed. If I do need to use it I'll say that it works right away for her...very effective. Over the last 3-4 months I've only needed to use it three times...so she's really been doing fine.
Luckily it's been a cool summer..(so far) and we've been out and about every morning for the usual walk in the park and Trixie has not grown tired of it. I'll post a photo or two of her enjoying her outside time.
Still haven't sold my parents house yet..but we are hoping an interested couple may at least make an offer. They've been back twice and asked for a lot of info. Keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't drag on too much longer. I miss both my parents like crazy.
I have to catch up with posts..well at least some! Hope everyone and their pups are doing well and enjoying these last few weeks of the summer time. :D

Hi Everyone!!! I feel so badly to have neglected the forum for so long!! Way too much time on Facebook and posting on the Cushings page there..anyway here I am and I have so much catching up to do. I'll be reading posts all weekend!!
Trixie has been doing great. Knock wood! :) I will probably try and get her in for an acth before the end of the year, but she remains on 24mg of Vetoryl a day..am/pm and pretty much back to normal. She's been so puppy like everyday...looking to play and always ready to get outside. Same old, same old...long walk in the morning and the usual routine. She's had a couple of her weird colitis type things over the last 4-5 months..but nothing that lasted more than a day after I give her a dose of metronidazole. The vet gave me a prescript to have on hand for these instances which have actually been few and far between. I've learned that when she wakes us up in the wee hours to go out that she's having this issue. Other than that she's been just fine. I'll post a photo my daughter took of her this week...begging for steak, which unfortunately she can't have. I'm still watching this dog like a hawk...a bit obsessively...and I still measure her water everyday..old habits. I'm still amazed when her total water intake for the day is under 8oz! I remember when it was 50oz.
It's been a little over a year ago that my mom passed away...can't believe how fast this year has gone by. Still haven't sold the house. :(:( That first offer we had when we had just listed is looking pretty good right about now...but water under the bridge. We have a couple of people who are hopefully going to make an offer but now we are into the worst time of year for selling. I've also learned that lots of people say they want to make an offer...but they don't. I try not to think about it...we've had a couple price reductions and if nothing happens soon we'll do it again. I'm just going to remain positive, and know that the house will sell...maybe not for the price we would like...but we will sell it.
So--pretty unexciting here...no big trips or big changes to report but everything is good here in NYC. My younger daughter is up at school..almost halfway through her junior year and then one more to go. My older one is here with us and working...saving money so that maybe one day she can get her own apt. but that's going to take awhile! We don't mind and my husband just loves having her home. We keep hearing the predictions of another wintery winter...Trixie won't be happy when I make her wear the dreaded coat/fleece!! :D Hope all is well with all of you and your pups!! I'm going to begin my catching up asap.
Barbara :D

Well look at you. Successful and no problems now for a long time. That is great. You're a good mummy Barbara.
Oh yea, Trixie will hate the cold and coat season. Molly will too I'm sure.
I sympathize with the trying to sell the property. It can be an awful hard situation. Spring is a good time to sell right? Do a bit of clean up and plant flowers so it looks all spiffy, then go for it again? Maybe take it off the market for the winter? Some around here do that. Course the flip side is it is a pain to have a property sitting empty. Arggghhh
So good to see you popping into the forum.

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!! :) I'm especially thankful again this year that Trixie is still doing so well and I wish the same for everyone's pups! :)
For the first time since I started giving her medication I forgot to give the morning dose the other day!!! When I went to give her evening dose I realized I didn't give the morning! Something I do so automatically...but something must have been different that morning..I don't know what but whatever it was we skipped a dose. Didn't seem to make any difference at all...but it was just funny after almost 2 years...not quite that long, but we're getting close.
Yeah, Sharlene spring is a good selling time but I think we'll have to sell before that--taxes and upkeep, we can't keep it going for too much longer...so we may just have to lower the price to the point that it will just sell. We'll see. Whatever will be, will be...there are more important things in life than how much we make from the house...I can't keep it on my worry list, I just want to be done.
Hope everyone and all the pups too have a nice holiday and a happy start to the season. It's 60 degrees here today but by tomorrow night --snow! :D:D:D

Yea, I hear you, sometimes it's better to just get it over and done with. Sell that place. :) :) :)
Trixie is a our little minx. Trixie the minx. LOL sounds about right. She has done so well on treatment and you are such a good mum to her. Missing one dose won't cause any problems and as you noticed yourself, didn't even phase her. :)
Great to hear from you. Happy Thanksgiving!

Oh dear Barbara, think a lot of us have forgotten a pill one time or another! ;) Senior moments hahaha... like me this week, put the new icecream in the fridge and not the freezer DOH!! Saw NY on our news with the protests there, hope you and Trixie are nice and safe and doing well heading up to the 2 year anniversary, she is amazing and so are you! xxx

Hi Everyone!! Each evening I have all good intentions to sign on and catch up and find myself falling asleep with the lap top teetering on my knees every night!! Anyway--Happy New Year!!
It's almost 2 years that Trixie was diagnosed...she's been doing great and looking good!
We just did an acth and complete blood test..still need to do a urine and we'll get to that soon. I was thinking Trixie's level might be a tad high before the acth, but when the test came back she had a pre:2.1 and a post:2.1. My vet felt just fine with these numbers and we hung up the phone...I picked up my copies yesterday and I'm not so sure about feeling okay with the 2.1. On the normal range post Trilostane (1.5-9.0) it fits in fine..but what do you guys think??
I will tell you she is not at all acting like she has low cortisol....like I said I thought she may have gone up a bit judging by her appetite (which was, and IS always "healthy") energy level is high..doing our usual long walk each and every day..drinking is normal..about a cup-8oz to 12oz a day. Her weight is good-16 pounds..she seems absolutely perfect..(knock wood). She's currently on Vetoryl- 14mg am/10mg pm.
I reread Dr. Peterson's page a few times...he gets concerned with anything under 2.0..and this is pretty close. I am thinking of taking away the 4mg in the morning and see what happens...I don't actually think it would matter so much as far as her cortisol rising but maybe taking it away would be safe as far as going any lower..??? Thoughts are more than welcome!
Trixie's blood results still show fairly high alkp..though it is half of lasts years results. I will most likely give Denamarin again..which I stopped just to take a break from giving pills..but I think I should start again. Her cholesterol is in normal range but triglycerides are high..again less than half of last years number but lipase is normal. I have fish oil caps but I am so nervous about giving them because of Trixie's very sensitive gastro system...we've been doing so well I didn't want to start up any episodes of diarrhea or vomiting but I do believe the fish oil would be helpful in lowering the triglycerides.
That's my dilemma of the day. I am a little disillusioned with my vet...he's been fine...but that's it-fine. I don't get a lot of feedback..the other vet-female- who is there is much more forthcoming, I've seen her for various minor stuff but he is the senior guy and deals with Trixie's Cushings. The staff there is passable only so maybe it's time for me to consider someplace else. Have to maybe do some research on switching..
On a non-canine note-we finally sold my parents home. Of course we didn't get near what we hoped but I am over it...I just need it to be over and have the responsibilities of a house off my shoulders...we should be closing by end of March.
I have so much catching up on posts to do...but I hope to read through some now. Hoping everyone's pups are doing well! :)

I'd be a bit antsy too with that 2.1 ug/dl, you could definitely try taking that 4 mg away in the morning and see how she does. Since this would be a dosage change I would probably have another ACTH stim test done in a month or so just to see where her numbers are.
So happy to hear that Trixie is doing so well on treatment, WOW 2 years since Trixie's diagnosis, OMGoodness time goes by so quickly.
Even with treatment some cush dogs ALP never do drop down to normal levels, so don't let that worry you too much, I know that is so hard to do as we always worry about our furbabies :D
You are doing such a fantastic job with Trixie, we are so proud of you!!!

Thanks Lori!! Time does fly by quickly! We've definitely been lucky that Trixie has responded so well to vetoryl. I'm so grateful...I still remember how much she drank everyday before she was controlled...I think of it all the time when I freshen her water dish...and I still measure her water everyday just to be sure things aren't changing.

Glad you got the house sold even tho you didn't get what you anticipated. In this market, I'm not sure anyone does! We took a beating on my mom's house and the sentimental attachment meant it was worth a WHOLE lot more to me than any market would support. :p
Good see you here, too. You do such a good job helping on the FB page but it's nice to see you at home. ;)

thanks Leslie!! The sentimental factor is huge isn't it...luckily for me I did not grow up in this home..it was my parents "retirement" home, but my girls grew up going there all the time and spending summer weeks in their pool..so there is an emotional component to the whole thing. I am just glad it's done..well almost, I don't want to wake up everyday thinking about a house I don't live in!!
Yes, I have to sign on here more often than I do!! I don't know where I would have been without this group...I would have never understood half of all Cushings entails...it's helped me manage Trixie and has gotten us to this 2 year point--(almost 2 years) :):):):)
B.
So glad you posted and with good news! Ugh, we keep trying to get our house ready to list and things keep derailing the process.
I will have to write you for advice.;):)
Terrific news that Trixie is doing well. After two years on Vetoryl you may end up tweaking down, sometimes they need less medicine. I personally am not worked up about her pre and post though it is a blunt response. I don't think we ever figured out what that could mean. If you are not seeing any side effects or new symptoms, I might be inclined to let it ride, just get her cortisol rechecked a little earlier, perhaps then usual.
I know you posted on my thread, I haven't had a chance to comment.
Crazy week in addyland:D

Nice to see you popping in.... NY was on our news last couple of days with the big storm expected, sounds like it did not dump too much on you... so hopefully Trixies walks in the park are not curtailed for too long!! Glad the house has sold, it sounded such a lot of work getting that sorted out. Honestly Trixie is a such a poster pup for Cushings management, that whole low and slow approach with a well educated Mom has really proven so successful... :D:D you are such a great example of how to deal with it and the newbies can learn a great deal reading Trixies thread!! xx

Oh gee thanks Trish. Trixie continues to do well...you know we have the occasional gastro flare-up...had one over the weekend...poops were not terrible..but slightly off...and then one vomit.. I always panic thinking we have a pancreatic thing like we had one year ago...(it was a year last week that she got so sick) anyway..thankfully I have the metronidazole on hand...one dose and she's back to normal..but I kept her on it for a couple days. Nothing else happened and she was pretty chipper and hungry even though something was up..at least for a day.
The thing I have been worrying about with Trixie is (well a non health worry..I always worry about her health!) I don't really have anyone to leave her with now if we have to go away. I have to work on finding someone I trust, which will not be easy.
I have a dog sitter but since we have not gone away in so long I haven't needed her, (we're kind of off vacations while we continue to have tuition bills)...so I called to check in and was getting a weird vibe when I told her I might need to be away for a day or two (luckily that trip didn't come to fruition) and she said yes..but not until the end of our conversation, she just seemed kind of reluctant to say "sure I can take her, of course" that's what I wanted to hear. Maybe I'm paranoid...and I guess she's there for me if I need her...but I think I should start asking around about other possibilities.
We're not going anywhere but I have some family things which may pop up and I don't want to be without someone. The biggest problem is the thought of leaving her with anyone sends me into a panic....seriously..I feel sick thinking about it. I'm so attached to this dog and I know her every move and since she's had Cushings she hasn't been on any overnights with the dog sitter...she stayed there the day of my mother's funeral service..but we were home by evening time. So...I'm venting my thoughts as I sit here worrying about this. I'm always so jealous when I hear about how some of you have great places and people you trust when you need to leave your dogs. I did have that once but not sure I still do. :(
What a downer I am!! Yes, Trish we were supposed to get the biggest snowstorm in NYC history...didn't happen..oh well. More snow due this weekend...nothing terrible but super cold temps coming as well. Trixie isn't fazed by it...still wants outside as much as possible, and she loves the snow. I got her the little balloon type booties today to protect from the salt and ice and even more than that-- the dirty streets...because somehow people feel they don't need to pick up dog poop when it snows!! Can't figure out why that is! Disgusting...and the buildings can't hose the sidewalks down because it will make everything icy! Trixie's going to hate these things..but we may have to give them a go anyway!
Well I've gone on and on!! Hope everyone and pups are all well!! :D:D
Barbara
Glad to read the update and that you both are well. I know how you feel, I never had anyone to care for Zoe and Koko and I still have no one for Koko. Before Zoe was diagnosed with Cushings we found a doggie hotel where they had their own room with cots and I could order TV for them and they had their own little fenced in patio area to go out in. We never got to try it because then Zoe kept getting sick with one thing after another.
It is like leaving your kids for the first time, we get so protective.
I hope you can just try the sitter for an afternoon, the maybe one night and work your way up. I don't know why she would hesitate though, seems odd.

Oh I think that is a good idea Addy, to work your way up. You could try that Barb and see how Trixie does.
Addy that sounds like it would be a wonderful place for koko if you ever did want to get away and couldn't take him.
I have my vet and that is it. No one else I trust. I went through 2 pages of sitters and couldn't find one that I'd leave molly with. It is hard isn't it.
The wedding is April 11, it's coming faster than I'm ready for. LOL
It's good to see you on here Barb. We miss you and Trixie when we don't get our fix. LOL
Big hugs! and a belly rub to our beautiful girl. Oh those rubber things are Paws? That is what I'm using for molly. She doesn't like it either, but they work.

Yes, I constantly count my lucky stars I have Mum and Dad who love Flynn as much as me, they are always happy to have him come stay. Sometimes I get a nagging suspicion he likes it better there, where he is pampered and spoilt like the Prince of Dogs he is LOL
I only left Flynn at a kennels once, when he was young when we were all away at some family thing out of town for a weekend. When I picked him up he stunk like a skunk, him and his bed was soaking wet and he was clamouring to get out of there. Never been back since.
Do not know what I would do, he has not had vaccinations for 3 years now. So they are a must if he is kennelled at any stage. I talked about vaccinations with the IMS just recently, we do not need rabies here but the others like kennel cough, parvo... he said they are definitely fine for at least 3 years, there is currently research underway that might show they only need them every 7 years but the final outcomes is not available yet from the research but he said it looks promising. So he does not want Flynn to have vaccinations with all the other things going on, his immune system has enough things to fight. Suits me!
Hope you find a nice place for her, or even better a house/pet sitter. heck, I would come stay in your lovely house and do it... just fly me over and I will be there with bells on to pamper pretty Trixie!! :D:D:D

I totally understand being paranoid about leaving your pup! Our Lexi & Spencer were never away from us, unless hospitalized. And even then, Spencer would freak out so much that someone would have to hold him the whole time!!
Having family all over the country, we travelled often. Once we got our first RV, that was so much easier! Our pups had their familiar home away from home!
I hope you are able to find a comfortable resolution for you and Trixie!

I can't believe how long it's been since I have been here! Had to come on when I heard the sad news about Flynn.
It's been over 3 years since I first posted here and Trixie began treatment. She's doing fine and is now 12. Still doing her walks in Central Park and right now very unhappy with the kitchen renovation that we've got going on...she's mostly regulated to the family room where we have a temp "kitchen" setup. She has been barking her head off most days at the workman...who she can't see but that doesn't stop her from acting up!
She was recently attacked by my neighbors dog...we share a common elevator foyer with them and the two dogs are territorial over the space. They never cross paths thanks to our careful avoidance with the help of our elevator men...anyway bad timing, a dog walker with the other dog and in a split second Trixie was in the other dog's mouth. It was really scary. One puncture wound that thankfully didn't tear so no stitches needed..but it bled like crazy and poor thing when they took to get the area shaved and cleaned she howled and cried and I was beside myself. She recovered but is pretty paranoid of the foyer...so we are super careful all the time.
Other than that Trixie's been great..and her usual gastric trouble has been non existent since I started using Proviable..a probiotic. It's unbelievable what a difference it's made. ACTH tests are consistent and she's in great control. So grateful for that. :)
I'm mostly on the Cushings FB page...but I have to catch up here and visit more often!! Hoping all is good with everyone and sending thoughts to anyone who has lost their pups or who are struggling with the disease. I'm so grateful for everyone who helped me get to this place with Trixie...we've been so lucky with treatment but all the help I got here over the 3 years made all the difference for us. :):)

Barbara. Time just seems to fly by. You are a god send on the FB page and help so many people and dogs. I see it daily. Thank you!!!
Omg that is terrifying about the attack with Trixie. Glad she ipokay now and didn't need stitches. I assume is she is giving the worker a hard time for being in Her kitchen then she is feeling pretty good. She is such a doll.
I always love to see the oictur s of her walking in the park. What a gal.

Well Barbara, I thought you dropped off the face of the earth.
So glad to hear that Trixie is still trucking along, but also sorry to hear that she was attacked. I needed to read this today, so thank you so much for dropping in to post.
Our Boy Flynny will always mean so much to us all. Losing him today breaks my heart. It helps to read good news about Trixie. She will always be known as our Central Park Walker who hated to wear a sweater! Keep on trucking Trixie!
