My vet thinks my dog has cushings. Liver enzymes were elevated, she drinks a lot and is always hungry. Also, she has a big belly. He ruled out other diseases but the cortisol came back low. He was quite surprised and is going to consult with an internist. He still thinks she has cushings. Has anyone experienced this with their diagnosis? Sheis a rescue dog that I have for a year and a half and has had these symptoms since I got here

Hi and welcome to you and your girl,
So sorry for the circumstances that brought you here but glad you found us.
I was wondering if you could round up copies of all tests that were done on your girl and post any abnormalities that are listed along with the reference ranges and units of measurements...e.g. ALP 500 U/L (5-100).
The symptoms that your girl is displaying are the signs of Cushing's but it is one the most difficult diseases to get a confirmed diagnosis for so I am glad your vet is seeking additional advice. Is this internist an IMS (Internal Medicine Specialist)?
How old is your girl and how much does she weigh? Does she have any other health issues? Is she taking any other herbs/medicines/supplements? Sorry for all the questions but the more we know about your sweet girl the better our feedback can be, ok?
Please know we will help in any way we can so do not hesitate to ask any and all questions.
Love and hugs,
Lori

Hello and welcome to the forum.
As Lori said, it would be a big help if you could post the abnormal test results and tell us a bit about your dog.
This is a great group of very supportive and knowledgeable people. I'm very glad you found us as cushings is so hard to get a firm diagnosis on, thyroid, diabetes also have the same symptoms as cushings and need to be ruled out too. That is why the test results can be very helpful when trying to figure out what is going on.
Again, a big welcome to the forum.
hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin

Thank u all for your quick response. I will get all the results from my vet in a few days and will post them. Jackpot is around 7 years old but we r not sure since she is a rescue. She is female and weighs 12 pounds. I have her almost a year and a half. When I got her, she was malnutritioned and had an ear infection and kennel cough. We just thought she needed to be built up since she was found on the street filthy dirty. I thought the thirst and hunger was from her past, not knowing when she would eat or drink. She licks a lot.me, the floor the couch etc. her coat is fine and there are no skin issues. Thx all for your help. I need to give her the best chance I can. She has experienced enough in her short life.

You are such a sweetheart to take her in and give her a good home. What breed is she?
Well, it's hard to say if it is cushings or not, without some test results to back it up. It's very hard to get a diagnosis on cushings, other things can mimic the symptoms.
