Hi Amy

I cannot bring myself to watch that sad video after reading the comments! I am such a sap when it comes to things like that  I had that book Marley and Me and read it on a long plane ride once, well I should say I almost read it all. I could not read the last chapters at all which kind of negated buying the book in the first place :D:D

Hope all good on the Boriss front, he doing so well it is so good to read that :D

Trish.. but, this story makes you cry from happiness!! The story is just amazing & has a very very happy ending. :D

I know what you mean though. I have never watched the movie Marley & me & will never watch that movie. Old Yeller & Where the Red Fern Grows were the 2 movies that tormented me as a child. so sad..

Boriss is doing good. No news is good news.. knock on wood!!

This weekend should be exciting I am dog sitting my friends 10 week old baby boxer & her other 3 year old dog. So, I will be surrounded by 4 dogs going crazy all weekend.:eek: I can't wait! If I can get them to ever be still I will take some pix.

Oh yes definitely! We want pics of 4 dogs including a baby one terrorizing your household! Sounds like such fun! You're going to need a nap day afterwards I bet!

Just went looking for the pics of the dog sitting weekend **hint hint** :D:D

Old Yeller traumatised me as a kid as well, cried for ages... the other one was Watership Down where the otter got killed in the drain, hopeless with sad movies :(:( As much as I love animals I could never work in a vet's or be a vet, I would be howling on a daily basis which I imagine would not be good for business :o

Hope all good with in your household Amy :D xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I still cry at Bambi:o:o:o I'm either bawling through a movie or peeking through my turtleneck. Hubby is "like what's the point?":p:p

Oh yes.. I would make a terrible vet myself. I would be all :(:(:( all the time. They are special people to show love, care, concern without loosing their minds from the sadness.

I will have to post pictures from the puppy weekend.

It got a little bit insane at one point & the biggest dog had to go home. Pearl was being such a bullie. Not trying to really fight.. but, trying to be the dominate girl of the pack. She is so not good at it... :p

Anyway the big dog finally got tired of being bossed around & started a fight with my big bark little bite girl. She was pinned on the ground while he was biting her on the leg in total shock. She has never had another dog do her like that. I was in panic mode!! I got him off of her & took her to the vet to make sure she was okay. He wasn't really trying to hurt her because the bite marks were not deep at all. She just had to be cleaned up, get a steroid shot cause she broke out in hives & on antibiotics for 2 weeks. Poor little bossy girl..

I was too afraid to let the big dog stay in case something worse happened. Poor guy he was VERY passive until he finally just got fed up with her growling & barking at him.:o

Pearl & the puppy however got some serious good play time in & I got a couple of really cute photos. I will post them this weekend & let you know when I do. Baby boxer puppies are just ridiculously cute with their long legs & floppy ears. :D

Boriss did great.. He is indifferent to other dogs. He is more of a people person. So, he just steered clear of the others all weekend.

I have a question I saw Glynda posted this on someone's thread awhile ago. It is in talks of heart problems. Boriss has a slight heart murmur & he does the reverse sneeze thing. He has all his life. I always thought it was because of his smush nose Boston face. Should I be more concerned & watchful if he starts doing the sneeze a lot? He doesn't weeze just the sneeze.

Here is what I read from Glynda:
Unfortunately, Jasper is wheezing and backward sneezing a lot more which tells me that the heart is probably bigger and pressing even more on the trachea. It's time for a check up.

I just want to make sure I stay on top of things now that he is 9 & getting older.

Thanks! hope everyone is having a happy Friday!!

Oh my gosh, you certainly did have some excitement at your house. Glad that Pearl is okay and not injured from her escapades. Molly is bossy too and I have to watch her or she'll get herself in trouble in no time.
What is it with the girls. :)
Aww, Boriss probably saw what was going on and though this is Sooooo Not for Me! I'm outta here. Crazy kids. :) hehehe

hope you had a good week. I don't know anything about the heart stuff, so hopefully Glynda will see your question and be able to tell you more about what she was talking about.

I cry watching toy story....all of them. and omg finding nemo.....at the beginning....where he loses all his family.....
thats scary what Glynda said about the reverse sneezing.....and the enlarged heart. i have really mentioned that ALOT lately to shysies IMS about her reverse sneezing increase....but then again we do live in a forest and it could be allergy sinus issue too. She just had ultra sound double cavity and they checked her blood pressure and she had chest x-ray in october surly it would have showed if something was wrong. BUT you know what, i am going to add that to my list to double check and confirm that all checked out.....

Rut Roe.... all not happy at the sleepover :D:D Poor Pearl bit off more than she could chew haha... little minx! Kinda feel a bit sorry for big dog, but I would have sent him home with tail between his legs if my babies were threatened too. Pearl probably learnt a very good lesson about dog hierachy too :) Will keep an eye out for the pics. Hope she heals up nicely and no lasting effects. Maybe she had a wee crush on him :eek:

Sorry not much help with that sneezing issue, hope you get some advice on that one soon!

Amy and Boriss:
Boy you had a rough and tumble time with that group!!! I wanted to tell you the inverted sneeze is because of trachea problems. Tipper had it when her trachea problem started. I put her on Glycoflexlll after a few weeks she could sneeze again. This product is supposed to repair and build cartlidge. When they have a trachea problem the cartlidge or rings in the wind pipe have been damaged. As far as the heart problems, Tipper has a slightly enlarged heart from the Cushings. I read the posting by Glynda also. The heart is a muscle and this disease affects muscle. I am starting to think the licking of her lips and the sticking out of her tongue that Tipper does especially in the morning has something to due with some type of drainage or mucus in the throat. I have heard of so many dogs with this disease doing that. All I can think of is the pituitary gland can be reached to operate on through the roof of their mouths. So maybe there is some drainage some how from that. I wish this disease was studied by someone, and that there were difinitive answers to all these questions. Hope your baby is ok from the biting incident. Please remember that steriods do predispose dogs to Cushings, as Tipper had them for allergies. If there is something else you can use I would try it instead. I wish I could go back in time I would never have left the Vet give Tipper all the steroids as it has caused us so much misery now. God Bless You and your precious babies.

sorry I haven't had time to post. It has been crazy busy around here.
I put a couple of cute pics up from the babysitting weekend. :)
Looks like Pearl is going to have her first scar. :( I hope she learned her lesson not to try to bullie other dogs. She bit off more than she could chew..

I have a feeling Boriss's numbers are climbing back up. I am not liking what I have been seeing the last few days. A little panting, not able to last long on our walks without tiring out & a couple of accidents.
I guess it is time for another test. :( Probably take him next week.
Hopefully that is all it is & nothing else cropping up.

I am also going to mention the Glycoflexlll to see if I can help his snoring & sneezing. He might be dealing with allergies since it is beginning to be spring time here.
Is this medication something I can buy at the store or a prescription?
Thanks for the information!!

I have been missing my daily check-ins on everyone. I am a little overwhelmed at all the new threads :(. Seems like so many more pups getting the cush.

You can buy the glycoflex at pet stores and Amazon or online. I would try a sold air vaporizer- it has helped Tipper. God Bless

Hope Borris is doing okay. Maybe just a creep up and nothing else. You never know what those cortisol levels are going to do it seems. Just when things are going smoothly, they drink some more water, or eat more, and freak us out!!
Hard on our BP, that's for sure.

We miss you too Amy. It does seem to be a lot of new pups with diagnosis lately. It just makes you feel sad sometimes to think of so many people and their babies going through this.

Have a good week, don't over work

Hi Amy

Just had a look at your pics of the pet sitting weekend, wow what a house full you had... Bela is adorable and a mini me Pearl :) Hope Boriss is feeling better, will have paws crossed for his test results next week.. his dose might need a wee bit of tweaking to get his numbers back in line.

Have a good week, I was thinking that about all the new cush pups as well, seems to be a lot of new ones lately. It is sad to read all the stories sometimes but so glad they found us all to get advice from the angels here.

Thanks Ladies..

I am hoping to get my boy into the vet next week for a test. I just have that feeling that he is creeping up on the numbers... boo..

He is getting is doing a lot of his old symptoms this week. Not wanting to jump on the bed at night. Looking around for food a little more often.

I had a feeling this would happen since I moved him to the twice a day 30mg morning & 10mg evening. I have a feeling he probably needs 30mg twice a day. Hopefully it won't end up being 30mg & 20mg. I would hate to buy 3 boxes of pills!!

I guess I will find out when I take him. ;)

Amy:
I know that feeling of buying all the boxes of pills. These darn things are so expensive. The only ones that do well when our dogs have Cushings are the Vets and the drug companies. This is such a big business that the pharmacy I get Tipper's from has it's own drug reps. that sell it to you!! You have to talk to one of them to get it! Hope it works out for Boriss, it seems like he can not get settled in at the right dose. It is so hard to keep changing doses. Prayers to you and sweet Boriss.

Also he has been panting this week. I just hate seeing them miserable. Hopefully we can just tweak his drugs & continue on. I am going to ask about the other meds you gave tipper as well.

Thanks!! I never get nervous until I see the panting. I don't like that. I know everything will be okay. I am trying not to worry unless the IMS gives me reason to worry. It only makes things harder when I start to have a worry fit. I am just breathing calmly until I can get him tested again. ;)

It's probably just a dosage tweek is needed. That happens a lot it seems. They will be just going along fine and suddenly Poof, they need a tweek. ;) No panic attacks yet my girl! Hang in there.

Hi Amy
I don't like panting either, always freaks me out more than it does Flynn! So hold on for the tests and see what needs to be done, hope you and Boriss and Pearl are having super weekend, has Pearls wound healed up OK? Thinking of you guys!

Hi Amy,
I just finally took a look at all the new pics, what adorable pooches!! That baby is precious. Looks like your house was a busy place. Bela looks so much like Pearl to me! And is Rosco the dog that Pearl scuffled with?

I hope you guys are having a good weekend and that Boriss is feeling good. I get nervous about the panting also. Keep us posted about his testing.

Hugs,

Hi,
sorry i have been unable to get on here in awhile. Time flies when you are busy working your buns off at work. :D

Yep, Rosco is the sweet boy that kicked Pearl's butt! :p He really is a good dog. She is just bossy. But, also very sweet.

Boriss is still having occasional panting sessions in the evening. He goes for his stim test on 4/16/13. I am tracking all of his different little things for the next week to have info for the IMS.

Some times I look at him & he looks so bloated. He eats the same small amount of food everyday so I don't think he is over weight. My husband thinks I'm crazy.. but, I say I am the more observant mama.

I have been measuring his belly several days in a row in the same place. Some days it is 22 1/2 inches & some days 21 1/2 inches. Is that normal? Could it just be gas or do I need to think about getting him on a liver supplement?

I hope everyone has an awesome weekend with the pups. Hopefully all of you guys up north are thawing out & starting to see signs of spring again.:)

Amy:
I observed the same thing about Tipper some days she looked larger and bloated and was a different size. I started measuring her too, as I thought maybe she was retaining fluid. Because of the Cushings she has gone from a medium harness to an extra large. It is too big around the neck, but she needs the xl for her girth. Tipper just started getting hungry again and drinking more water. She is getting tested Monday. She wasn't supposed to be tested until May, but due to the procedures in the hospital next Thursday I want to make sure her cortisol is controlled, and I have a feeling it is creeping up again. She cannot be put under if it isn't under control as it would not be safe according to the Vet at Dechra. God Bless you and sweet Boriss.

Daisy looks more like a rhino at the moment because she's so bloated. I picked up her reformulated Trilostane today and she had her first dose tonight.

Patti, smart idea. Make sure that Tipper is ok for the next steps.

Good luck ladies.

molly muffin

I do think that sometimes they are more bloated. It's strange but it seems that many many people talk about tummy rumbles and bloating, gas, etc. I wonder if that is a result of the cortisol and cushings or if that is a result of the medicine.
It's hard to tell too, because most pups go onto vetoryl these days. We'd need to compare to Lysodren mums and dads and see what they think, if they noticed that too.
I think when you know that you have something that affects their liver then it's not a bad idea to see about getting a liver supplement for them. I have molly on hepato support, which is what the vet gives here in Canada. You could probably ask your vet for a good liver supplement.

Glad to see you back. I know hate it that work here has been so busy too, but at least the snow has melted, well, there is some ice still in the back yard, but I'm ignoring it's existence. :)

hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin

04-05-2013, 11:28 PM
Thanks Patti, Valerie & Sharlene,

Boriss is still wearing the same size harness. I think he actually has started to loose some of that cush weight he had gained. It is just the bloating I notice on some days. Poor little piggy!!

I think I am going to ask the vet for the liver supplement Sharlene. I guess it can't hurt. :)
For some reason I feel like it might be the medicine. When I notice the bloating I try to give him the pepcid/famotidine to help relieve what might be a gassy stomach. Which Boston Terriers are famous for anyway.

Good luck next week Patti! I have a feeling Boriss levels have creeped up a little as well. It is so hard to tell with him cause he is such a picky eater. He isn't really digging the Blue Buffalo so he will ignore the food all do until he is so hungry he has to eat it. I might have to switch back to his old food. Trying to coax him to eat everyday is hard. Plus I can't ever tell if it is the meds or him just turning up his little spoiled nose to it.

Miss you guys.. I think HOPE things are going to slow down at work during the summer months. This is alway about the time of year I start wishing I had my teaching degree. Oh to have the summers off from work. My teacher friends make me so jealous! :p

doxiesrock912

Daisy has had the bloating off and on for quite some time so I think that it's more due to the Cushing's, especially since we've only tried the Trilostane for one week and will now start once again with twice daily dosing.

The meds may aggravate the problem more.

Boriss McCall
04-06-2013, 12:04 AM
I agree with you. He moved to twice daily dosing a couple months ago & it seems to work for him so much better.
I think he just needs a slight tweak & he will be back on his way to feeling right again.

I think you guys are heading off for your ACTH test a few days before we go, wishing you a good stim. A bit of tweaking is not so bad.;) I expect we will have to do that as well.:)

Hard to say with the tummy bloating and gurgles. Zoe's used to gurgle a lot but it does it rarely now. I could always tell when her tummy was bloated with gas because it was the only time she would pant. She stopped that as well so who knows:confused::confused:

Hi Everyone,
Lost of hard things going on the forum this week with family & pups. :(

I am feeling kinda blue today.. :(

Lately I have been just enjoying things & even letting myself forget Boriss has anything wrong with him cause he has been doing SO WELL.

Yesterday morning he squatted & peed right in front of me while looking at me. Not a good sign... I know with cushings they have accidents.. but, I was standing RIGHT next to the door. So, I think he was trying to let me know something is up.
I also let them him have free reign of the house while I was at work yesterday. Went to lay down on my bed last night & he had wet the bed at some point during the day.

I am trying not to worry.. hopefully it will be something as simple as a tweak of the meds. He goes to have his Stim test on Monday.

I just hate when things are going so well & then you get a big reminder that no your dog is not cured & well. Which I know there is no cure for this. I just like to think he is all good when I see him feeling good.

I know others are out there struggling with so much more. So, I am lucky. Just having one of those days were I HATE CUSHINGS & the thought of not having my boy forever makes me sad.

Amy:
I know exactly how you are feeling. You live with a false sense of security when things are good your mind is free for a while from thinking about this horrible disease. You put it in the back of your mind that they really have it. Then one day whack! It strikes back with a vengence. Like getting the rug pulled out from under your feet. I think when the babies are feeling well and not having any issues we want to pretend they are normal, and shut our mind off for a while. It is only natural as thinking about all this can make you go stark raving crazy. I hope all Boriss needs is a tweak of the meds. Your issues are just as bad as anyone else's on here because it is happening to your baby, so don't feel others have more pressing issues than you. Hope Boriss gets straightened out again soon. God Bless You and Boriss

Hopefully Boriss just needs a med adjustment. He could also have a UTI. I've heard that those are common with Cushings.

Take care.

I hope Boris is feeling ok, and you too. Hopefully the stim test figures out if a slight tweak is needed in his meds and that he'll be back to smooth sailing right away.
We are still new to this but I feel the same as you..So far Trixie seems to be doing okay, but yesterday she would not stop drinking and every time she went back to that water bowl my heart would sink! Hate any reminders that Trixie has this stupid disease.
Hoping the best for all the pups!

I know it is probably just a minor set back. It just feels like a rude awakening when everything has been going so smooth. It lets horrible thoughts creep in. I need to ignore them. I have been doing so good at living each day I have with him. Some days just get to you.
Luckily she tests a urine sample every time he gets his stim. I will definitely have her check for a UTI.

Thanks for caring.. some days I know I wouldn't make it without this board & the encouragement we all get from each other.

Hi Amy,

Sorry you are having a blue day. We all have those days and well, this isn't a good one for most of us today.

I was going to say to check for a UTI. If that comes back normal and his ACTH is in a good range, than have a UPC complete Urine panel done. I think that is what I'd do but I'd go with the ACTH and UTI first.

Heck Amy, I've been living in my bubble too and not ready to come out yet. :) I'm sure one day I'll have to but just would rather not, so I completely get it.

I probably do need to get some blood work & panels done. Boriss has only had the stim tests since he started all this. So, it might be time to see how everything else is looking.

Hi Amy,

Blue days are not only allowed, I think they are part and parcel of the package! Yes we all get them, sometimes for ourselves, sometimes for others. Just remember there is always someone to hold your hand. My firends and family all think I am nuts and way too over the top about my boys, they don't understand that they are my children and the thought of anything bad tears me up! Sometimes there are even threads here I just can't read because I know I will end up crying again :o

Anyway, if you are in doubt, get those full bloods and panels run on monday when the stim is done, better to know what you are up against than not, and you might even get the good news that everything is fine, and Boriss is just going after a bit of extra attention :p

Take care honey, will be looking forward to those results.

Trish

And that Boriss enjoys his spoiled little life too!! Hope a wee tweak is all that is needed to get him back in line. It is funny how sometimes just a little thing or a small change in behaviour has us imagining the worst.

I am having such a lazy day today, here it is 1.20pm on a Sunday afternoon and I am sitting here drinking green tea still in my nightie... how embarrassing if anyone popped in, I doubt it though as its pouring with rain outside so think I am safe in my laziness!!! But that is out of character for me but I just feel like blobbing after the week I have had of racing about, nothing wrong with that though is there?!?! Sometimes I think that is what the babies feel like, they are getting older (like me haha) and just need some down time some days!! Hmmmm I have totally forgotten the point of this spiel (told ya I was getting old hahaha)... anyway hope your weekend is looking up Amy and that Boriss and Pearl are doing great!

Blue days.........i call them the day with the funky mella gruby blue type feeling...for short....blue day. Why do those days seem to last soooooo long!!!!! and happy dancing popping beautiful days zip zip zip zing by.
amazing how awesome life is when our babies feel great. We feel great with them. but if they have funk come along it creates the blue day and nothing holds beauty the way it would otherwise.
i am so over the top with my furbabies.....family and friends....exception of you all of course...... dont understand me. and i just dont understand them for not being able to clearly see these are my children. i think what is wrong with these people???? a mothers heart is a mothers heart it is not species specific. Grrrrr small minded people........the oddest of species. lol

I so totally agree with you! My friends really don't get it at all. One is very sympathetic and comes close, but her dog lives with her parents so even she doesn't get that close tie. Another constantly has to remind herself that what she feels for her sons is my version for my boys too. Other than that, it takes someone special to get it I think. I even feel guitly going out at night if I've worked a whole day. Can't leave them alone that long, not fair. I find babysitters instead :D (as in Aunties or Nanna - and yes, she is called Nanna for the boys) My mum has 5 grand kids, only one has 3 feet though, the others have 4 feet and tails :D

Oh well Amy, another way to approach your blu days is to have cuddle days instead. The days where you lounge around with Boriss in you lap and spoil him rotten for the day. Quality time.

ha.. that sounds like an interesting niece/nephew with 3 feet. :p

I hope this week is going good for all of you ladies. I guess we all fight the blues at one point or another.

so here is my report.. Obviously Boriss knows how to push my buttons & get extra attention. He had me all sad & worried for nothing. Maybe he was just having a senior day where he just felt like peeing were every he wanted to..

His numbers came back great.
Stim test results Pre 3.0 Post 3.7
His urine SP Gravity excellant
His urine culture test came back really good also.

IMS said she would never know anything was wrong with him if she didn't know already. He looks really good. :D

In 2 weeks we are going to do his blood work to see how all those levels are doing. Had to space that out between pay checks.

I guess Boriss really knows how to work me. He has never wet the bed. The only thing I can think of is he was home alone during the storms that day & decided to take it out on the bed. As for why he squatted right in front of me to pee.... I have know idea.. Guess he was crying out for some attention. Typical Boston Terrier move..:D

I am glad I did the test to put that worry out of my mind. I will be extra happy to get the blood test done.

Well that little guy sure knows how to push the buttons. LOL I'm so glad his numbers are good.

Storms will do that to molly. She'll go from not peeing in the house to just letting go, sometimes, not all the time, if she hears thunder.

It's weird, when we first got her from rescue she would pee in the bed sometimes, but then that just stopped and she hasn't done it since for at least 8 1/2 years. I think she figured out that if she did that, then she wasn't allowed on the bed, and she preferred to be there. I was told though that if it is occasional and not a health related urination, especially in the human bed, then it is behavioral for some reason. Did this happen after the puppy had been around or something?

If it doesn't happen any more, then I would think that there was a trigger that REALLY got him upset about something. Maybe it's if they can't communicate one way, they'll find another. Yikes! Lets hope that is it and the thunder was main factor.

Still it's good news for now, and we'll take it. :) Once you get past the next blood panel, should be back to normal.

Sharlene and Molly Muffin

Thanks Ladies!

Oh Sharlene.. knowing Boriss I am sure it was him acting out. :p I can't remember if it was around the time of the puppy. but, you are right it could have been. He does not like to share his attention or momma's lap. Unless it is Pearl.. He will make exceptions for her every once in a blue moon.
His new thing is he now thinks every time I put on my shoes to leave the house he is bound & determined to make it out the door with me.
I feel so bad when I have to tell him no.
It is kind of funny he seems to know when it is Monday thru Friday & I am going to work he doesn't try it. But, if he knows its after hours or the weekend... I better let him go out the door with me or he is upset try to squeeze out & run to the car. :p:p

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday morning he squatted & peed right in front of me while looking at me. Not a good sign... I know with cushings they have accidents.. but, I was standing RIGHT next to the door. So, I think he was trying to let me know something is up.
I also let them him have free reign of the house while I was at work yesterday. Went to lay down on my bed last night & he had wet the bed at some point during the day.

Pleased to hear the good news on his numbers - yay Boriss!

One evening OH forgot to let Hamish out before dinner, so immediately after dinner he walked over and stood in front of OH, stared until he got his attention, then peed on the rug! Guess who got shouted at ;)

ha! it surely did freak me out. I can't remember him ever looking right at me & squatting peeing a river. :p
I guess really they are just like children doing whatever they can to get our attention.
He seems to be doing fine. The only other thing I can think of is he gets 30mgs trilo in the morning at 10mgs at night. Who knows maybe the 10mgs isn't strong enough on some nights??
I just am going to sit back & enjoy things for awhile & NOT worry.. I repeat to myself do NOT worry!! Life it too short for all of us & our pups. I am going to enjoy what I have. If I repeat this I hope it sinks in.
Next month will be his blood tests. ;)

Hi Everyone! ;)
Patty please don't you even be sorry. You have had so much going on since your first day on the forum. I remember how panicked I was when I first came here. Then you loosing Fella..:( That is just too much for one person to handle. I am glad you are feeling a little better. I know it will take time. hugs to you..
Thanks for checking on us ladies.
When we woke up on Friday Boriss was acting a little strange. But, I think I finally figured it out later that day. It has been warm & then we woke up to 38 degree weather that morning. He was shivering.. Hello Texas in May. That is NOT normal.
I did take him Friday afternoon to have his blood taken. I am really curious to see what that will all be like. He has been on trilo for 8 months now. Time flies by!!
I will post those when the IMS calls me with the info. Fingers crossed for all things good.
He seems to be acting fine now. He has only had one accident in the last week.
Pearl & Boriss are still as nutty as ever. Pearl's new LOVE & somewhat "extreme" sport for her bulldog self is a yoga ball in the backyard. She goes nuts!! We can only let her play for a little while everyday cause she gets way too over stimulated. She over heats pretty quick. While she plays with the ball Boriss is either trying his best to stay out of her crazy path or barking around her in circles. It is pretty entertaining. Oh the little things..
Everyone have a great weekend. One more day & it's back to the grind on Monday.

Trixie

Hoping you get excellent results from Boriss' recent blood test.
Wow...that is an extreme temperature change! No wonder Boriss had a case of the shivers.
Trixie has an insane reaction to those yoga balls...or any oversize ball for that matter. She also goes crazy for any paper bags...especially the old kind of big brown paper grocery bags. She shakes them, wrestles them and then shreds them up like a machine. She also gets way to worked up and excited so I usually only give them on rainy days.
Pearl and Boriss sound like a hoot! What a tag team they must be in the backyard.
:) Barbara

good idea!! I can't wait to try out the paper bag with Pearl. I am sure she will go nuts over that too. Right now she is not happy with me because I won't get up to let her out the back door into the yard every 5 minutes.
This is one of those times when a doggie door would come in handy. :p

HI All,
I got Boriss's blood work back. I made a mistake & forgot to fast him before the test. :o So, the numbers are possibly a little higher than they probably really are. I hope..

His last blood test was 8/15/12 with the following results.these are all the ones that were not normal.
ALB 4.2g/dL Range 2.5-4.0
ALKP 1172 U/L Range 10-150
BICARB 26 mEq/L Range 17-24
DBIL 0.0 mg/dl Range 0.0-0.2
IBIL O.O mg/dL Range 0-0.3
TBIL 0.0 mg/dL Range 0.0-0.4

Here are the results from 5/3/13 that were not in the normal range.
ALB 4.5 g/dl range 2.5-4.0
ALKP 870 U/L range 10-150
BICARB 26 mEq/L range 17-24
DBIL 0.0 mg/dl Range 0.0-0.2
IBIL O.O mg/dL Range 0-0.3
TBIL 0.0 mg/dL Range 0.0-0.4

The IMS feels like he is doing really well & "healthy" other than cushings. She thinks these numbers would be lower if I had fasted him. I could just kick myself for forgetting. Oh well live & learn. I will try testing him again in about 6 months.

I think I am going to start him on a liver supplement next month when I pick up his trilo meds again.
Everything seems good with Boriss. :D:D:D:):):)
Now hopefully we can kick back enjoy the summer & not melt away in the Texas heat.

That all sounds so positive - I can only hope the same for Remi. I think we are fortunate as all his other blood chems, even electrolytes, liver values (except alk phos) are in the normal range.

My vet told me not to expect too much with the alk phos for quite a while.

I'm happy to report that today was day 5 of the Vetoryl and Remi has had no issues. Actually, he is really playful today. He eats the same amount. Does seem to drink a little less and definitely restful during the nite.

Hi Sharlene! Thanks for checking on us. :) The Texas storms are always nuts. We had the sirens going off around here all evening that night. Luckily all we got was hail & really hard rain. Which we need the rain. My family lives close to the Cleburne/Grandbury area. Luckily everyone is okay. :)

I am so glad Remi is doing so well. Boriss did the same thing. After he started his meds he began to play with his toys & us again. I love that! That is a good sign. ;) We were lucky as well. Boriss is a healthy dog other than the cush thing. Hi All,
sorry I have not updated in forever. This weather has been nuts. luckily not right were I am.. but, all around.
I helped my friends set up a donation for the oklahoma tornado animals. That was fun.. There still seem to be SO many misplaced animals. :(
I have another friend that works for a vet & they set up a temporary shelter to help reunite owners with pets.
Boriss is doing good. Still a mischievous little mama's boy.
I still think I should up his evening dose since he gets hungry around 8pm & some nights sniffs around the floor for crumbs. I am going to wait & see how it plays out.
He is still on the 30mg morning & 10mg night split.
For now he seems to be doing good. :D
I am not looking forward to the hot Texas summer. We should be hitting 100 degrees tomorrow. Not ready for that at all.

HI all is well..
Last night Boriss was having some crazy allergy issues. Sneezing his poor little head off in bed. I finally got up at 2am & gave him some benedrly & that helped. He has been panting a little more in the evening. but, it is also starting to get hot. I hate when the 100's hit. It makes it so hard to keep the house cool enough. I found out last night way after the fact he spit out a good portion of his pill. ugg...

Pearl is just as ornery & sweet as a bulldog can be. :p

Patti.. where did you find a cold pack Harness? That would be way better.

The temps are beginning to heat up here in good old Texas. I hope the weather is kind to us this summer. I am not interested in breaking any heat wave records this year.:cool:

Everyone have a great weekend!

Sorry to hear your babies are feeling the heat. It is starting up here too, but not as bad as what you get. I got the cold pack harness on Amazon. oh my gosh... coming back to the board today makes me heart hurt. So, many sweet babies are gone. I know a lot of you are in pain at this very moment. :(
It makes my problems seem so nothing...

Patti I found the harness on ebay. I will be ordering them this week for both of my dogs. Right now we have been really lucky.. It has actually dropped down into the 60's at night. That NEVER happens in July.

Boriss is doing good. His allergies seem to be back under control. The sneezing attacks have stopped.

Poor Ms. Pearl is having it rough right now. The vet is pretty sure she tore her ACL. We take her to the specialist on Friday. Probably going to have to have surgery. ugg.. I need a tshirt that says all my money goes to my pups. :p

But, I am not complaining. It is something that can be repaired. Seems like nothing compared to everything going on here.
She is just in pain. We have her on painkillers until she can get it repaired. But, that silly girl.. even with pain we are having to force her to be still & not play. This could be a really long recovery process.

I hope everyone has a safe holiday weekend. I will keep you posted on Pearl.
Thanks for checking on all of us. Sorry I have been away. My boss went to Europe for 2 weeks & things were absolutely NUTS at work.

Thanks ladies..
Ms. Pearl is definitely going to have to have the ACL surgery. She is doing okay right now. The doctor had me take her off the pain meds she was on. He said he does not like to see bulldogs on pain meds because of their airway or something like that..
So, she is managing well without them. She is such a stoic little bulldog. I would have never know she was in pain except she started limping.
Hope to do the surgery in the next month or so.
Boriss is trying to be a good boy..:D They only get the playing freak outs every now & then. Life is going to be pretty low key around our house probably until the fall.

Boriss has been completely miserable in the evenings for a while now. crying for food & having accidents.. he had 3 last night before bedtime. If I don't feed him more he will cry to go outside so he can find poop to eat. He is panting a little bit more.
During the day he is controlled & doesn't have this cush behavior.

We still have him on the 30mg morning dose & 10mg evening dose.
I am going to call the IMS today & ask to change his evening dose.

My question for you guys that are giving meds twice a day..
Are you giving an even split? for example 30mg am & 30mg pm.
I am going to ask the vet to bump up his evening pill & I can't decide if I should try 30mg am & 20mg evening which would mean 3 pills a day & more money or if we could do a 30mg am &b 30mg pm without hurting him.
I feel so bad for him..

Amy:
I am so sorry Boriss is having a bad time again. I would think the 30 morning and the 30 evening would help him as the 1st dose is basically going to be out of his system before the second one at night. The night dosage you have him on must not be enough to hold him until morning. I know it is bad enough when you start them on the dosing, but now tweaking. It is always something to contend with. This disease keeps you on your toes for sure. Hope Boriss starts to feel better. Are you consulting the vet with the dosage? Maybe Dechra could guide you on this so you feel comfortable with whatever is decided. Blessings

Sorry Boriss is having Cush symptoms in the evening. :( Does he have his evening dose with his meal? Since Trixie doesn't get her evening dose until 10pm I give her a very, very small meal of canned food again with the med. She knows that food is coming and is waiting for it right on time at 10pm.
I give Trixie an even split of her 24mg a day. So, she's getting 12mg at 10am and 10pm. We're only a couple weeks into this so who knows if this dose will continue to hold her. If Boriss is getting a total of 40mg a day do you think he could do a 20mg/20mg split? I guess if the 30mg in the morning is working well all day you don't want to mess with that.
Are you using Vetoryl or generic Trilo? I am now on 10mg caps of Vetoryl and 2mg caps of Trilo. It's all so expensive. I am thinking once her dose is proving to work..a couple more months..I'll switch to 12mg compounded caps of trilostane to save some money and hope that there won't be a difference. It's all so worrisome. Maybe you should start with just making that evening dose to 20mg and see how it goes....then you would just be going from 40mg to 50mg and he clearly needs more in the evenings so probably going to help him and not hurt...another 30mg in the evening might be too much of a bump up? How does he do overnight?

What were his last stim results?

I did 30/20 with Zoe with plans to switch to 30/30 but then she dropped down to 4 ug/dl so we left her be.

In hindsight, I wish I would have left her at 40 am and back loaded the pm dose like you did. If you have room to go to 30/30 go for it otherwise your can try the 30/20. Last time we spoke to Dechra, they warned Zoe might have to have a lower dose as she has dropped twice now on the same dose. A 25% increase would mean you go to 30/20. 30/30 is a 50% increase.

I called the IMS. Since we watch Boriss so closely she is comfortable with the 30am/30pm split. We are going to schedule him for another test once he has done this for 2 weeks.

The last stim test his numbers were creeping up again. He was a little over a 5 post. Which was after I switched him to the 30mg am/10mg pm split.

I can tell by his wacky behavior that he is off. He seems so miserable. We are always good about giving him his pill with food. So, I think it is absorbing okay.

I think he is just one of those dogs that it takes some time to even him out. He was up in down in the beginning as well. Hard to believe next month it will be a year since he was diagnosed. For the most part things have been really smooth.

He is just driving himself & us nuts right now starving again. I hope this does the trick. Thanks for all the advice & ideas. :)

Sounds like a good plan Amy...and you do know best from seeing how he's been. I love to hear how Boriss is doing after a year...and mostly smooth sounds good as we're still tweaking along.

Right after I posted you a little while ago I saw that Trixie used the puppy pad. She did last night too but thought maybe it was just a fluke.
So here we go again...we have had about 7 days or so with less drinking and no peeing on the pads, and then yesterday and today more drinking and no using the pads.
I think I might cry! We move up a dose and it seems to hold for 5-7 days and then we get back into more drinking and peeing. How long did it take Boriss to settle into a dose? Did you have this same type of experience...holding for a week and then not??? It's so discouraging!! :(

Barbara,
Try not to get too frustrated & worried. :( Some of our dogs take time to get that just right dosage. Overall the year has been okay. I was distraught when I came to this forum thinking he was a goner. Thankfully all the things we read are not true. But, the accidents in the house & the constant hunger are not fun. When he starts panting is when I really let my mind start racing with the what if's. Which I have really tried to keep out of my brain & just enjoy the life we have together right now.

We give Boriss the packaged meds not the generic ones. I was told I needed to choose between the two. We started out with the generic pill that was compounded then switched when he was on a regular mg dosage that the pill had to offer. He has been on that for awhile now.

It took us a bit of tweaking before we found something that worked for him. His numbers were awesome at 40mgs in the morning. But, I found by evening he was getting miserable again. So, I asked the vet if I could try the 30/10 split. It has worked a little bit. But, honestly he has not had good control in the evening in a long time.

Either this 30/30 will work for him or I have a feeling we may have to bump him up to a 40/40 split.
I hate bumping it up. But, I can see how miserable he is. Especially when he is so hungry that he will go outside & eat poop just to fill up his belly. :(

I know you & Trixie are going to find the right dose & then all the worry will be history. When Boriss is doing good I totally forget that he is sick. He is usually so happy & fun to be around. Just hang in there. ;)

Thanks Amy,
It makes me feel much better knowing you and Boriss have done so well this year and it's always good to be reminded that the tweaking is just part of the whole package . I called my vet and of course he left for the day and is off tomorrow. Isn't it always that way!??
Maybe it's better...I'll watch Trixie over the next few days and see how it goes...maybe it's not as bad as I'm thinking it is. The heat here is also making it difficult to judge what's normal or not.
For now I am staying on the Vetoryl brand...plus I just ordered a months supply from Dr. Foster/Smith website. I do combine that with the generic caps in order to make up her dose.
Hoping the new dose for Boris does the trick at keeping him regulated comfy in the evenings. ;)

Yes, Daisy gets 7.5mg twice a day as close to 12 hours apart as I can manage. I do give her a small snack mid-day so that she's not starving.
Trilo leaves their system fairly quickly so Boriss being hungry at night on the lower dosage makes sense to me.

How is he doing on the 30/30? If he loses his appetite and/or becomes lethargic, maybe 20/20 or 25/25 would work better?

I am sure it will. :) Boriss's avatar is one of my most favourite ones on the forum, it always makes me smile when I see him sitting up like that :) such a cute boy! Hi Friends,
thanks for the encouragement. Last night was better. We started the 30/30 split yesterday. I know it might be too soon to tell.. but, no accidents last night. yay!!
He also wasn't loosing his mind for his breakfast this morning.

I just hope when I go out of town on the 21st for 5 days I have trained my husband enough to watch Boriss like I do. :p
It is funny how we think we are the only ones who can possibly give them the care they need. He is going to get sick of me calling everyday to see how the dogs are. Last time I went out of town I sent him a text every time it was time for Boriss to take his pill. :D

My brother & I are taking my niece to NYC & then around New Jersey & the surrounding states. We lived in New Jersey as kids & are going to go see our old house and all that fun stuff. I can't wait.. I just hope it is not crazy humid like it was last year when I went to NYC in the summer.

I will keep you guys posted on the pups. I just got word yesterday that insurance would cover Pearls ACL surgery. That is such a relief because I had know idea how we would afford that & Boriss.

Everyone have a great weekend.

Which is totally where we have been the last couple of weeks.

Patti.. I think the split is doing its job.. fingers crossed!

Barbara & Patty.. I am no stranger to humidity that's for sure. But, it is even worse in NYC when you are walking everywhere. Last year I thought my skin was going to melt off. I hope ya'll get a break soon.

Hopefully the cooler air will fly in with my plane on the 23rd. Although coming from Texas there isn't much hope for that.:p But, I will only be in New York for 2 days with a friend. Then I will be heading out to all the surrounding states & the country side. Hopefully it will be a little cooler when we leave the city.

HI Everyone,
I just got back from the East coast. The weather was so amazing! I got there & the cool breeze rolled in. I had a really good time.

I took Boriss to the vet before I left for a little lump check. He is getting so many. They are just fatty lumps that sometime come with age. Nothing to worry about I found out. But, I had to check.
Basically I paid the vet $50 to let me know Boriss was old & fat.
He actually told me that. He was a vet that Boriss doesn't normally go to. I was a bit irritated.

Do any of us really need to be told/reminded when our dogs are old. NO!! Believe the fact that he is 9 years old & has cushings is always in the back of my mind. I don't need the extra reminder.
Boriss is now on a diet cause he needs to loose 3lbs.

Other than that everyone is good. Pearl will probably be having her ACL surgery in late August or early September. She is doing good though. I almost dread doing the surgery because she doesn't seem to be in any pain at all. But, I know if I don't do the surgery it might make things harder for her when she is older.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

Glad to hear Boriss is ok. Tipper has gotten those lumps her whole life, and has had so many removed, In fact she has about three right now. Hers are fatty cysts, and it must be genetic, as they keep on coming. If she were not sick the vet would remove them while doing her teeth. She no longer goes under for dental we stopped that because of the Cushings. Hope Pearl does well with her surgery, these little ones are such a worry. Blessings

So glad you got the cool weather while here in NY. It was such a relief when that awful heat wave ended!
Trixie has a fatty lump on her side too. It hasn't changed a bit and doesn't seem to bother her at all if I touch it and push it. It will be looked at when we go for her check-up and blood work in a couple weeks. I wish it wasn't there!

Barbara.. The weather was hot the first day I got to NY & then the next day it cooled off so much I couldn't believe it. We had a really nice time.
Now I am back to an awful heatwave here in Texas. It is oppressive right now. The dogs don't go outside for more than 5 minutes at a time.
I am ready for Fall!!
We have our AC going non stop & 5 floor fans blowing at all times. Sometimes I wonder why I still live in Texas.

We feed Lucy a lot of green beans for low cal snacks...sometimes right out of the freezer. Also apple slices and cooked egg whites seem to work for her.

I should receive my Compounded 40 mg Trilo tomorrow in the mail.
( I was doing the 30mg Vetoryl in AM 10 mg Vetoryl in PM split).

But we will be on the road for the month of September for vacation and I thought once a day dosing would be easier. I'm not sure I saw much difference with the twice daily dosing.

The endless hot weather sure makes it difficult to objectively measure things like energy, water consumption and panting.

Lucy also has lumps like marbles....

I am so tired today..
I was up almost ALL night last night. For some reason my brain decided to pick last night to worry about what would happen to my dogs if my husband & I got into an accident.
My family are not dog crazy & would probably end up taking mine to the pound. At least that is how I feel. I don't have much trust in them caring for my babies like they are my kids.
So, I found a friend that loves Boston Terriers & just all dogs in general. She will be my god dog mom. :) She also works for a rescue group that fosters dogs. I trust her to take care of my babies...
I worry that if a cush pup ended up at the shelter they would not place him in a home. They are just so expensive & it takes a very special person to take that one.
So, now I am in the process of writing a will for our dogs. :p
Yes.. I am THAT crazy dog mom/lady.
Anyone else ever written a will for your dog?

Amy, I wake up in the middle of the night with thoughts like that too! I hate when that happens because you cannot get back to sleep with those kind of worries running through your head.

I woke up the other night worrying about a bunch of things and one of them was what will I do if I have to leave Trixie overnight at some point. She hasn't been with the dog sitter in a really long time. Now with medication needed 2x a day the thought of trusting someone else kept me up for a few hours! In the morning it didn't seem as awful and luckily we're not planning any trips anyway....but I hate when these thoughts pop into my head at 3am.
Seems like you came up with a solution and now your pups have godparents! :) I think it's a great idea to write a doggie will...lots of people do it!

Great idea, Amy! If more folks would do this, fewer pups would end up in shelters. Too often just what you described happens - the family simply dumps the dog at a shelter. If it is old or ill, its chances are low of being adopted quickly which usually means.... :( My Tash was taken to our vet's office and abandoned when her mom passed; Josie was put on Craigslist when her mom passed. We just can't always count on those who love us to love our babies like we do...or like they deserve to be loved. So taking steps to protect them is crucial.

Way to go, Mom! :cool::cool::cool:

I feel so much better about going out of town next week knowing that my dogs have god parents who will love them almost as much as I do. I wrote a little will for them. I told my brother if my dogs should ever end up in a shelter I would haunt him & the rest of my family forever. :D

I am really conflicted about Pearl having surgery. We have been putting it off to wait until after our vacation. but, now she isn't even limping. I think when we get back & things are settled we are going to get a 2nd opinion. We haven't been able to go for walks in a couple months because it is way too hot for them here in the summer. So, I guess when we start going on walks again next month we will be able to see better how that ACL is doing.

The other night we had a storm & our electricity went out from 7pm to 3am. Electricity out in Texas in the summer is horrible. Lucky for us it had not gotten over 100 that day. but, I had to get up in the middle of the night twice & wet Boriss down in the tub case I thought he was going to pant himself to death. poor guy..

Anyway we have now had Boriss in treatment for a year! WOW!! I remember like it was yesterday how distraught I was when I found you guys. Boriss is doing great. (knock on wood)
I just want to thank everyone for encouragement, laughs, tears & kindness. This board is amazing.

We are headed to Los Angeles for the week. Time to get a little beach action before the hectic fall season begins.

Very pleased to hear that Boriss is doing well on his treatment - I think you need a party for him to celebrate that milestone.

I think the dog god parents are a great idea - I really wish that I had someone I could ask. I'm in the process of writing a will but it's not helped that I'm a Brit living in Canada..... As I don't have anyone close to ask my current plan is to have a breed specific rescue take the dog and money to be provided to the rescue to cover any future needs the dog may have. There is a great rescue in the UK that I would trust but I've yet to find anywhere in Canada, although the breeder did say they would always take dogs back if required.

whooo hooo vacation time! :)
A year already. Wow time sure has flown. I'm so glad that Borris is doing so well too. He's a sweetheart for sure.
You know with Pearl, inactivity is the cure for a torn ACL, when surgery is not going to be done. So, by limiting her activity and her long walks, this has probably helped quite a bit. I think they say 6 weeks of inactivity, and then reevaluate the ACL. So, you might want to just keep those walks limited and see how she does and if she continues to get better, then see what the vet says.

Have fun in LA! That city can drive me crazy sometimes, but I always have a blast when I'm there. LOL

I'm back! My dogs still have to put up with me being their mom for a little longer. :D Thanks everyone for your kind words on Boriss's anniversary.
I think my friend spoiled them while we were gone. We started them both on green bean diets this week to help loose a few pounds. I know if Pearl's ACL is truly hurt than having a few pounds off will do her some good.
You are right Sharlene we are going to reevaluate her situation in the fall. She seems like she is managing well right now. I just don't want to not do the surgery if she needs it & affect her quality of life later with arthritis & mobility.
so, we shall keep a close eye on that. :)
I am so happy Boriss is still trucking along with his spoiled self. Patti i will be super ecstatic when we make it past the 2 year mark. After all when I first read online about cushings it said that he would only last 2 years. I am so glad I decided not to believe that crap & found this forum instead.
I still have my days were I let doubt creep in. But, for my own sanity & to be able to enjoy Boriss every day I have him I try not to let my mind go there.

You are right the beaches in San Diego are gorgeous. We just have not been to LA in a very long time & decided to go see old friends. Hi Amy,
Sounds like you had a nice vacation and seems like Boriss and Pearl did too! Getting spoiled was probably just fine with them! :)
So now that you are a year into treating Boriss I was wondering about how long it took to hone in on the proper dosage?
Once Boriss had his symptoms in check did you still see some things here and there or did everything become normal again?
Even though it's not crazy excessive I still see that Trixie's drinking is more than what she used to drink, and the hunger thing- which has always kind of been normal for her- is also still fairly prevalent and obvious.
It's only been about 5 months on medication for us and I'm not expecting perfection but wondering what others experience with drinking, eating, panting and other symptoms.
How's the green bean thing going? Trixie is the heaviest she's even been now at 17 pounds. Before Cushings the most she ever weighed was about 14lbs. I hate to deny her treats (low fat) when she's hungry!

it took us awhile to get the meds just right. Lots of tweaking! ugg..
But, his last tweak was 2 months ago & he has been doing great. knock on wood.. His water intake went down in the first couple of months & never went back up. His hunger & accidents is what gets me. Mainly the hunger. I can't stand to see him starving. He still has nights were he wines & begs for more food. But, at this point I can't tell if it is behavior or cushings. He gets really unhappy when I don't give him more & will lay in the kitchen on the floor for hours. I hate it!
He had a night like that last night. I am not sure what triggers it. I think sometimes boredom just like humans. We haven't been able to do much of anything fun with the dogs cause it is so hot outside here at the moment.
I will be getting his stim test sometime in the next few weeks & find out how his levels are. I think he is doing good other than the occasional evening of wanting more food. I am not sure that will ever go away. He is just a little piggy anyway.
The green bean diet is going good. This sounds awful but... I only do it in the morning when we are both at work. That way they won't be begging me for more food all day long. I can't take that. We don't do it on the weekend. I give them a regular feeding in the evening. They are getting enough calories & nutrition. but, just like me they hate being on a diet. :p They do however love the green beans.
Good luck with Trixie. It truly does get easier. Eventually you will get to the point were you forgot they have cushings when everything else is all going good. Some days it is so hard for me to believe he is sick. Then other days I remember & it makes me nervous & sad. It is one of those day by day things. Hang in there!

Welcome Home Amy! Really glad you had a good vacation. Sounds like Borris and Pearl did too, a bit of spoiling though can be nice. :)
Green beans is the one thing that Molly really does turn her nose up at and refuses to ingest. I tried it, but just a no go. She will however, attack it, throw it in the air and kill it repeatedly. :)
Well we all have to find our fun somewhere I suppose. No more green beans for her, I was finding them under the chairs and anywhere she could "throw" them.
Gads Texas heat! Hopefully that will break soon and you'll get some cooler weather in.

HI everyone..
sorry I have been MIA. Work is nuts.. but that is nothing new.
Yes!! we are still burning up here. ugg.. I can't wait until this weekend. The low at night is going to be in the 60's. I am ready to be able to start walking the dogs again. I know they are getting depressed stuck in doors.
They are both doing good. Pearl has lost 2 pounds on her green bean diet. yay!! Hopefully weight loss & being quiet all summer will keep her from having the ACL surgery. so far so good...
The true test will be when we take our daily walks. If she starts limping she will have the surgery. Fingers crossed!!
Boriss is just as spoiled as always. :) Still doing good on his meds. He has the occasional nights were he cries for food. But, for the most part he still acts like a crazy boston terrier. :D

Good reports on both your pups Amy! The weather here has gotten perfectly cool...even a little chilly early in the morning and I love it!! Only Trixie loves it more than I do! She has been so much more comfortable now that it's cooled off. These last few days she's been out a lot and no panting! I think we still have a few warm days in the forecast but seems like we're through with the 90's for awhile.

We're still hanging in with the medication but probably in need of a tweak. It's the evenings before Trixie's 10pm dose that some symptoms pop out. It always makes me feel good to read that Boriss is doing so well on the medication, I hope Trixie follows his lead! Acting crazy like a Boston terrier is good news! :D
Hope your weather starts to cool down real soon so your two can get outside too!

It might be time to tweak Boriss's meds.
I was trying not to worry.. but, then my husband noticed too & he always things I am over analyzing. So, if he notices it is probably real.

Boriss has been panting a lot the last two days. Last night he was snoring so loud & breathing a little bit fast while we were sleeping.

I also realized today after counting the months it has been 5 months since his last stim test. He has been doing so good we haven't needed one.
So, he is going for a test tomorrow morning. I am also going to have her check to make sure lungs & heart are doing good.
I am trying not to worry. I just hate seeing him pant. I know it is warm outside here. but, this is the first time I have seen him pant like this in a long time.
I wet him down this morning before I left for work just to cool him off a bit.
So send the good vibes for my little man.. I hope I am just being over sensitive to his panting. If we need to tweak his meds a bit to make him comfortable I am okay with it.;)

Hi Amy,
UGH...so frustrating when you see those symptoms creep back.
Sounds like all Boriss needs is just a little tweak in his medication to get those symptoms under control. I know how the panting and drinking can just start the worries right up. Hope it's smooth sailing at the vet, will be looking forward to hearing how it goes.

they have these mats that are cooling mats. you can get them at pet stores or like a tractor and supply may have something too. Its sorta like a thin little water bed mat for animals then there is this other one that is some sort of material that defers heat away from body helping them cool. and you can also get the neck cooling wraps. Hope to night goes better, and hope it is only because of weather that these symptoms are happening.

Hi all..
We got the results back. His numbers are better than they have ever been.
Pre 1.8
Post 2.3
Since this is the case we won't be changing anything.
I am starting to think he is just determined to keep me on my toes a few times a month to make sure I am paying enough attention to him.
I really don't understand the panting he was doing. The only thing I can think of is he is having allergies & it makes him lick his legs like crazy. I always try my best to make him stop. By the time I catch him & get him to stop he is so out of breath from licking like crazy.
But, she seemed to think everything was good. His heart & lungs sound good.
Sometimes it is just a mystery. Maybe he is just sick of the Texas heat like me.
Fall is on its way..

Trixie
09-24-2013, 04:48 PM
Amy,
The numbers look great for Boriss! So the panting is a mystery...or when the medication is wearing off a bit maybe Boriss gets a little warm and pants? I can tell you that since our weather has turned cooler Trixie hasn't been panting. By writing that I'm sure I just jinxed the whole thing and later today she'll probably start panting for no apparent reason!! :D:D
I guess Trixie is actually pretty well controlled but some days she's not as good as others. I find it hard to take any symptoms in stride, but I'm trying.
Hopefully it will cool off in Texas soon!! Glad Boriss is doing so well! :p

Hi Amy,
Those are really good numbers for Borris. Have you tried Benadryl for the allergies?
They lick, they pant, they lick, they pant with allergies too, so that might be the cause that.
Well, and he is a stubborn and determined little guy. hahahaha

Amy:
I think Boriss' numbers look great too. Have you ever run your hand over him when he is panting? I have done this with Tipper and have found some hot spots on her like her back or her head. The vet told me when you feel this it is inflammation. I have noticed that when this happens to Tipper sometimes she pants, so check Boriss and see if this could be the culprit. Blessings

He seems to be doing really good. Patti... I will have to check that out. I have touched his stomach & paws which feel hot when he is panting. I usually wet him down on the belly with a cool rag & that helps.
I am starting to think they are both having some allergies.
I started Pearl on Zyrtec it has helped. Might need to give it to Boriss on his panting.. licking nights to help.
I am really happy about his numbers. I am pretty sure he just has me whipped into submission to give him extra food even when he is not really hungry with cush symptoms. He is messing with me. lol:D

I have found myself leaving the room when Tipper starts up for food. When she can't see me she stops obsessing over it and lays down until it is time for her to eat. I have had to do this more and more lately, but it works. Thank God she has not started barking when I leave her. Tipper is persistent, and will jump in your face, scratch at your legs, and keep it up until she gets food. It is enough to give you a nervous breakdown I swear. I have to give her credit, she is tenacious and will never stop. Hope it gets better with Boriss, as I know how hard it is. Blessings

I can't believe time has flown by so fast.

Boriss turned 10 years old today! I am happy to still have him here with me. I just pray we keep the party going for years to come! ;) He is starting to get silver eyelashes & eyebrows. So, weird to see him aging when it feels like he should still be my baby boy.

He has been panting more than usual lately.. not really sure why because his numbers are perfect.
I am going to take him in for an all over old man physical to make sure everything else is good.

Other than that things are good. We have decided not to get Pearl the ACL surgery anytime soon. She seemed to heal over the hot summer laying low. She isn't limping.. yay!!

We are taking them to Austin for a family vacation in a few weeks. That should be fun! I love being able to have them with me out of town.

He is doing really good on his dose. He hasn't had an accident in a couple of months.
He still begs for food at night sometimes. But, like I said I think that is just a bad habit he has at this point.

He is going to the IMS in November to do a senior physical, blood work & an all over check. He has a lump on his back that has grown. She is going to check it & make sure it is another one of those fatty ones.

I am going to keep all that stuff out of my mind until after vacation. First we concentrate on some fun! :D

Yay vacation time!! I am off next week for a few days to a conference right up the top of the Island to a place I have never been before, I will have everything crossed for this one that nothing goes wrong as I do not have a good track record with these things... think earthquakes, mad dashes back from Australia to Mum in hospital, postponed at last moment with family members illness :D:D I remember swearing in April I wasn't going to anymore... but I really have to keep myself up to date with the latest so off I go again plus I have been invited to give a couple of presentations so I am busy prepping my powerpoints! HI EVERYONE!
Okay you were all right. I can breath now... the lumps were nothing more than fatty lumps. I guess he is just going to be one of those dogs that keeps getting them the older he gets.
Boriss had a senior check up right when we got back from Austin. Everything checked out so good! The IMS is so happy to see him doing so well. She said he is doing better than any of her other Cush cases. She said she would never guess he was 10 years old & think he is doing great. His blood work came back really good.
Next we are doing an ultra sound to check his organs & on the same day he will be getting his teeth cleaned. Hopefully that will happen in the next couple of weeks.
I am so happy that my old guy is doing so good. Now we can look forward to the holidays & time off from work. :D

Hi there! I am new to this site, but I have a 12y/o yorkie that has Cushings. It was diagnosed approx 1 year ago, but it was early stage. My vet recommended Anipryl (selegiline generic) to "manage the clinical symptoms". That worked well but recently I've noticed an increase in symptoms, so we will likely start on Trilostane... HI Everyone!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I know some of you are starting out with some hard things. :(
It is going to take me forever to catch up. I can't believe I have been away so long.
Here is an update on Boriss….
He is doing great. In December we had another ultra sound & teeth cleaning.
He had a rough go with the teeth. We ended up having to pull 2 teeth. I hated seeing him lay on the sofa looking so feeble & in pain. But, a day or so later he popped up & was back to his old boston terrier ways. Really it is so hard for me to believe he is 10 years old. He is just now starting with the whole gray hair here & there.
He has been on a diet as well & successfully lost 4 pounds!!
The doctor was very impressed.

The only bad news I have is he is in stage one of kidney disease. Nothing terrible is going on & nothing can be done about it. The doctor just noted it because the shape of his kidney has slightly changed. Nothing to fret about yet. His urine still looks great & the gravity is good.

I was going to put all the exact stuff from the ultra sound on here.. but, of course I can't remember where i put it.
Everything looked good for his age other than the kidney shrinking a tiny tiny tiny bit. I am not going to worry about that until I have to.

Right now we are just enjoying life together & he has super clean teeth which makes his kisses much more enjoyable. :D

Pearl is doing great as well. We haven't seen anymore signs of her ACL giving her trouble. We are so glad we did not get the surgery for her at this point. I really think down time helped her body repair the tear.

I can't wait to catch up on everyones pups. I am crossing my fingers for all things good in 2014.

good news all around!
Daisy is due for a teeth cleaning as well. I bought this stuff online from Petsmart that you add to their water and it is supposed to help loosen tarter. I'm not sure how well it is working but her bad breath is completely gone, so it must be doing something.

So nice to hear Good news. Thank you for posting!

Lucy probably can't undergo anesthesia for her teeth cleaning. There is a vet here in Phoenix that does no anesthesia gentle dentistry…I think she swaddles the dog somehow. I can't imagine. I would like to freshen her breath tho…maybe I'll try that stuff from Petsmart.

Trixie gained about 5 pounds since she was diagnosed with Cushings..trying to cut back on portion size with her....but she's always hungry, always begging. She was like that before Cushings too.
Really happy to hear great things about both Boriss and Pearl! :D

Hi Amy:
Glad Boriss is doing well other than the kidney change. Does that always mean kidney disease is starting up? Blessings

Yay how cool to log in this morning and see an update from you Amy. I have been wondering how Boriss and Pearl have been doing!! HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all too!!

Awww Boriss has a wee bit of silver... George Clooney style I am sure!!! It will just make him more distinguished. Did he have blood tests done to look at renal function? Might be worth doing next time he has his checkup for peace of mind. Still it does not sound like too much to worry about to me :D I love it when Flynny has his teeth done and they are all shiny and bright!! Aren't a bright smile and fresh breath awesome! Good the bad teeth are gone, they can cause trouble so pleased he was not down feeling sorry for himself for too long!! Lost weight too!! He really has been doing well which will be because you take such awesome care of them both!

AND Pearl's leg is better without surgery! YAY, just goes to show what a period of rest can do for these doggies with sore legs :D:D

So lovely to see you Amy and get an update, don't be a stranger!! :D xxx

HI Everyone..
I am so sorry I have been MIA for so long. This has not been the best year ever.
I will start out by saying Boriss is still doing great. ;) He still my little needy.. funny freak boy.
I had another ultra sound a few months back just to see how he was looking on the inside & all is still doing great. Now let me find some wood to knock on real quick.
He still take 30mg am & 30mg pm of the Trilo. He has days were his knee hurts because he has started arthritis in the back leg/knee. I hate those days. :( but, we have back up pain meds on the days he needs it. So far it is working great. We don't want to put him on anything he needs everyday just yet. So he still has help with the glucosamine & fish oil.
He is doing really good for a 10 year old boy.
The crazy part of my year has been the hubs..
My husband got into a terrible motorcycle wreck toward the beginning of the year. He is good now. finishing up his physical therapy.
but he had to have a couple surgeries.. one to rebuild his nose & eye socket & one on his shoulder. He was wearing a helmet but it was an open face helmet. so, if you ride motorcycles & wear an open face helmet do yourself a favor & get rid up it. :) It is all full face helmets from now on.
He looks the same as he did before.. but, the recovery has been long. I never thought at 40 I would be giving my husband a bath. ha.. But, he is fully recovered now & I am back at work. It was a tough couple of months.
I know I have lots of catching up to do. I hope everyone is doing well & the pups are all happy & good.

Hi Amy:
I am glad to hear that Boriss is doing well. That is terrible that your husband got hurt so badly. Has he been home all this time? That is funny about bathing a 40 year old man! I am glad to hear from you. How is your weather doing? Probably hot and humid! What is going on with Pearl? Hope she is doing well also. Blessings

OMG Amy!!!! HUGS! I am so glad to hear that your husband made a full recovery and is back to himself again. I know how very scary that is. My husband will likely have arthritis due to a bad motorcycle accident. His elbow had to be completely rebuilt and his foot was a mess. I'm sure the riding boots is what saved his foot. He is fine now too, but yes, it is a long haul recovery.
A bus ran a stop light and hit him. This was when he was much younger. I agree with the full face helmets, they do help in a bad accident.

Glad to hear that Boris is doing good still. Funny Freak Boy. I just died laughing at that.

It's real good to see you online again! Sorry it has been such a trying year for you. :( Really sucky.

hugs!

Amy!! How lovely to see you posting but OMGOMGOMG your poor hubby! That is just awful to read about the bike accident... darn boys and their toys!!! Hope you confiscated the keys :D:D Sounds awful with facial and shoulder surgery. So pleased to hear he is back to feeling OK.

And Boriss is good too apart from the occasional aches, few of us fighting those here lately pups and doggy Mom's, so he is in good company! And Pearl doing OK with her leg?? Often wondered how you were all going so it is just lovely to read your news this morning, welcome back we missed you!! xxxx
