Hi all-
Just received the call from my vet confirming my little dog's diagnosis of Cushings. I'm going between feeling optimistic and crying-not sure what's going to happen next. Lady is an older terrier mix. We've had her for 8 years and when we got her no one was sure of her exact age (she was a stray) We figure she's at least 12-15 years old but it's just a guess. The vet is going to call me tomorrow with more details of what we're going to put her on-he wants to try Trilostane and says it has less side effects than the normal meds used. Any feedback, thoughts, etc are appreciated. I'll check out the rest of the info on the forum too. Just trying to not feel like it's a death sentence for my girl.

Hi and welcome to you and your girl,
So sorry for the reasons that brought you here but glad you found us. First off--Cushing's is NOT a death sentence for your sweet girl and with proper treatment, dogs can live out their normal life expectancy.
In order for us to provide you with meaningful feedback we need to know more about your girl. Can you round up copies of all tests that were done and post any abnormalities listed. Also, could you tell us what symptoms your babe is dispaying. Is she on any other herbs/supplements/medicines? Any other health issues? How much does she weigh and what dose of Trilostane is the vet rx'ing.
Please know we are here for you and your girl and we will help in any way we can.
Love and hugs,
Lori

Hi and welcome.
Definitely am curious about her weight and the vets recommendation for amount of Trilostane to give.
Mine has just been diagnosed too. What other symptoms did Lady have?

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and support-my vet confirmed today like you Lori, that Cushings is not a death sentence and is something that we can hopefully manage. He just called in her script today and I will pick it up tomorrow and post the dosage. Lady weighs 25 lbs. She has been on heart meds for about a year due to a murmur we've been monitoring. We check her blood every 6 months and this time around one of the results showed a peak that the vet thought might be Cushings. She's on Lasix, so the excessive drinking and peeing we thought were originally due to that. She also gets me up anywhere from 2:30 am to 5:00 am to pee and then it can be out again every hour. She pants so bad and can't get settled which is so disturbing to us (and I'm sure to her) Her back legs are also unsteady so I've been carrying her up and down our stairs to the house. I feel bad because originally we thought she was just showing signs of dementia and now it turns out it was really Cushings. We're going to start the medicine on Friday so we're home to keep an eye on any side effects. I'll post the dosage tomorrow. Thank you again-I feel better already and not so depressed about her diagnosis.
