Greetings, all!

Before I get into a long post, I need to know that no one will judge Tiva's family for not actively treating her Cushings...that's a horrible way to start. My apologies.

I've been reading all of your stories for so long, I know that you are a warm and caring community. I can't count the number of times I've laughed and cried with everyone here over the years, so you're practically family to me. Guess I should've introduced myself long ago, given that feeling.

As a quick intro: I'm Tiva's mom. She's blessed with two, and an extended family that thinks the world of her, but I've been her mom since she was contemplating just how she would make her grand entrance into this world...from my lifelong best friend's furry kid.
:-D
Tiva is 13 years and 8 months today (it's after midnight, so that counts...every minute counts) and still amazing. Gorgeous yellow lab / chow / mix with the most amazing soul and attitude to spare.

She was first diagnosed 5.5 years ago, and we decided not to treat heavily, due to her already fairly-severe arthritis.

That's all for until I hear that it's okay with the group to go this route (treating mostly via diet and supplements). I'm just afraid she's about to leave us, and don't know what to do...

Welcome Jozephine, and Tiva too.
I am so glad you have decided to come and join us here though very sad that the reason is poor Tiva's difficulties.
I do not believe you will be 'judged' here, we all face our own battle with this complex, baffling, frustrating and exhausting condition. The strength we have as a community is through supporting each other through our choices, not through a belief in a single doctrine of treatment or commonality of approach.
As the Mum of a Cushdog newly in doggy heaven whose treatment unmasked severe difficulties with arthritis I can empathise completely with your approach. Indeed had I an idea that the arthritis would flare so badly with treatment I think I may have followed your path.
Please tell us how we can help. Love to you and Tiva meanwhile.

I'm new here too and I don't think this group would be judgmental at all. Everyone seems to have had their own experiences with this horrible, horrible disease and all the other things that seem to go along with it.
I sincerely hope that you will have Tiva for awhile longer, but whatever happens, you are filling her life with love and taking care of her the best way you can. Arthritis from what I have read seems to get worse once cortisol levels come down. It is always so hard to know what to do in any given situation. *sigh*
I'm sorry, did I mention I just wanted to say Welcome to the board and your coming out day. :)

Hi and welcome to you and Tiva!

To treat or not to treat is a personal decision, so we are not here to judge any one, we are here only to help in any way we can.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask as we are happy to assist. ;):)

Love and hugs,
Lori
