Marianne, you make an excellent point! I usually rely on dogfoodadvisor as my first point of reference, and I have noted that he will rate all the products in a certain line, if the line is small. For example: he has rated all the formulas for the honest kitchen, but chose only one formula for the in depth analysis. Some of the lines are so very large, it would be impossible to provide an analysis for every single one.
It would be so nice if the pet food industry had the same regulations as human food - that way we could rely a bit more on some transparency in the ingredient and nutritional analysis content.

great that molly is doing fine!
i hope that between those samples there is one which she really likes and keeps her stool firm.
i don't use commercial dog food, so i do not know much about the different brands. grain free sounds good, molly is a little wolf, not a cow ha, ha!

Sharlene, I was just looking back at Molly's UTK summary, and I think you may have made a conversion error in terms of her cortisol.
ACTH (2 draws - this is due to the agent used by the vet) June 2012
Cor1 - Cortisol (base) 172 (30 - 300) 6.23 ug
Cor 21 - Cortisol (ACTH) - 1 hour 924 33.49 ug
Cor 22 - Cortisol (ACTH) - 2 hour 1014 36.75 ug
ACTH april 2014
Pre 29.5nmol range 2.1 - 58.8 1.06ug
1hr 283.1nmol range 65.0 - 174.6 10.26ug
2hr 345.6nmol range 65.0 - 174.6 12.52ug
I did not notice this before, but you have noted the UTK units as being nmol/l. Are you sure this is correct? Usually their reporting units are in the form of ng/ml. If so, this would mean that Molly's April cortisol levels would convert to the following units of ug/dl: 2.95, 28.3, and 34.5. :(
I would suspect this is the case, because her numbers are elevated quite a bit above the stimulated reference range (which I do believe converts to 6.5 to 17.5 ug/dl) and this is also pretty much consistent with her previous ACTH. Just wanted to double-check this with you. :o

You're right Marianne! Again. LOL I typed in nmol but it is ng, so in reality, it hasn't change very much at all from 2 years ago.
Is that weird? Should it be increasing over the years with no treatment? I thought it was very strange when I thought it dropped, now I think it is strange that is is the same. And there was something about that her base remains normal but I can't remember why that was significant, since I thought we see that alot and then the adrenal glands dump a lot (the post factor)
I really don't know what to do. I know I'm not having surgery done. I don't know if we should be treating her or not. The IMS I still need to talk to but was in meetings all day today myself, so couldn't and have to ask my vet to call back tomorrow to talk about the crystals, etc. Just no time and I find it so confusing. No symptoms either still, so again, back to a dog with no symptoms, do you treat or not. Most say no, Dr. Peterson says no.
I think I'm at wanting two things done. An LDDS end of june and then based on that perhaps start on lignans and melatonin as it is farily benign.
Food wise, from Fromms, I have found a couple doable ones, whitefish has a low fat content and no grain, it was the lowest with no grain and then the weight management and Senior reduced activity both are low in fat. So, possibilities there and probably the shredded chicken can if the store has that, would be the lowest wet food.
okay, it's been a very long day and I'm exhausted and a bit emotional right now, with the news of Squirt tonight, so I think I'll head to bed and pop in tomorrow.
Oh Susan, SO is the Medi cal Urinary SO food for dogs prone to crystals. Molly has done pretty good on it, but a few times now she has gotten the gastro upsets and taking her off it always has helped to clear it up. (except for that last bad one, where only chicken rice and antibiotics helped)

Marianne needs a prize Sharlene, she got post *2000* on your thread! Plus she is great at figuring out those numbers!
I agree about not looking at surgery for the time being, her nodule is small. In an asymptomatic dog I would just watch it too.. well that is what I am also doing. Flynn's left adrenal nodule has been there since before his right adrenalectomy, so that is 18 months now. Active surveillance is a very acceptable treatment option for this type of thing. x

Oh, I am proud and honored to be the 2000th poster!
But Sharlene, I apologize for dumping the cortisol figures on you right now when we're all in the midst of such a sad time. Partly, I'm inflicting my own way of coping onto you -- when I am sad or upset, I try to settle myself on a concrete task, like working on the puzzle of Molly's results. :o
Also, though, I knew you would be talking with the IMS and wanted you to have the correct information in hand. And what a puzzle Molly remains. I cannot disagree with a very conservative approach unless something changes. As we talked about earlier, the UPC may be the wild card in that respect. If it steadily increases and no other cause is obvious, then more aggressive intervention may be warranted at that time such as the maintenance dose of Lysodren. Just my feeble thoughts right now.
Many hugs to be shared among our family on this morning,
Marianne

Hi Sharlene:
Tipper eats the senior reduced calorie Fromm's if that helps any. I know we are all just not thinking right at this time. If you do go tomorrow talk to a vet please ask them what the likelihood is of an adrenal tumor rupturing? Vicki is also going to ask to get us some more info on what to do here. I read and read and the stats that I saw for mortality on this operation are way too high for my comfort. I believe our of the two scenarios operating is the riskier of the two. We are to get thunderstorms today so I will be ready with Tipper's meds. Blessings

It is okay, I'd rather that this be caught, than to proceed on bad info. So, thank you Marianne. I completely understand trying to focus on anything other than what is on all our minds this morning.
I haven't spoken with the IMS yet, but I did have a conversation with my vet.
Molly has has both struvite and oxalate crystals at one time or another, but has been doing well since 2007 when the bad batch of struvite crystals were caught and she was started on the SO food which stands for struvite/oxalate and helps to keep an even PH so as not have either. The bladder stones she had were small and have now passed The kidney stones are small and we'll have to keep an eye on them.
Due to her not having symptoms, we are going with right now following up on the UPC. She'll have a test in a couple weeks to recheck that and then another one following in about a month to recheck. They want to see 3 consistent high UPC's before saying this is a problem and not just a fluke of the day or something else going on.
In June she will likely have an LDDS test. If it is a functional adrenal tumor, it should show up on this next LDDS test.
I have just found a lecture paper, talking about how dogs with AT could have a normal 4 and 8 hour cortisol level. Interesting. I don't have time to read the entire thing right now. I will however, put the link here for the rest of you to check at your leisure: http://www.ivis.org/proceedings/wsava/2006/lecture9/Reusch2.pdf?LA=1
It is interesting in that she doesn't ever seem to have high levels in her body, only in the adrenal glands, her base has been within normal limits and that is likely why we don't see symptoms, it doesn't appear to be dumping until an ACTH is done. My vet said, molly remains one of the more constant mysteries to her, and both the IMS's that have seen her. To look at her, she looks fine, other than the knee and hip, which is actually both part of the same problem. (years of over compensating on the one side for the other side, has likely been the cause of the knee issue)
The tumor is small, and agreed that monitoring to see if it is growing is our best choice. My vet did not seem to think that a rupture was likely. She said, you can never say anything 100% but she didn't think it very likely. I'll also ask the IMS about this, but I know the IMS's thought when we spoke is that we would monitor too. I think if she Did thing a rupture likely then that wouldn't have been her recommendation. My vet said, this is very small, I don't think you have to worry about it.
Okay not much time at the moment.
hugs all and thanks

Sharlene, I have only a moment to post right now, but I don't think Molly's baseline results would explain the lack of overt symptoms. Many symptomatic dogs have baselines that fall within normal range (and conversely, many normal dogs may have elevated baselines if they are stressed during the testing), and that is why baseline cortisols are useless in terms of Cushing's diagnostics. It is only the stimulated result that is meaningful in terms of differentiating dogs with hyperadenal activity.

Well .... fooey! LOL My vet is actually the one who mentioned the low baseline, but I did point out that the posts were still high. (don't think she looked that over before calling me)
We're heading out for yet another dinner for hubs birthday. This is his third one this week, all with different groups of people and I need to check and see if he is up for a greek buffet luncheon tomorrow before we had downtown tomorrow night for the theater and "We Will Rock You" it's getting good reviews in Londan (UK) and I can't wait to see it.
Molly got the SO for breakfast and we had the not so great poop this afternoon. This morning after last night having some of the Fromms, she had perfect poop, it is definitely a food/gastro thing I think we can safely say.

Well heck Happy Birthday Valerie! :) We do birthday weeks too, sometimes months even, as things drag out and different people can get together at different times.
I love to make hubs laugh when I am still calling him the birthday boy. :)
Yep, Japanese tonight, tomorrow Greek and then the theater.
I really hope to rest on Sunday, going to need it, but hubs has mentioned opening the pool!! ack! Course then there was the mention followed of carribean rum punch, so maybe we need to hurry and get it open. LOL
Molly loved having everyone around this evening after the dinner out. She didn't even bark at everyone coming in, just popped right over and said hello. Who is this dog, she normally barks at everything!!
Oh she had that front paw act up right before we left today. Hubs said he thinks that it fell asleep on her. I massaged it a bit, I put her down, he gave her a treat and she continued to hold the paw up, then took off on it, with a bit of limping and then was fine.
got to run, exhausted here!

Glad you had a good time out for your hubs birthday. He sure had a lot of celebrations which sounded nice. It is dreary here this morning and I don't want any more thunder. I am not feeling well this morning so I am taking it easy. I have Leslie and Squirt burned into my brain, and it keeps playing like on a loop. This has really shaken me. It puts you one step closer to you own babies mortality. I hope Molly is settled down with the poops?? Wonder what is up with that? Have a good weekend. Blessings

Hey Sharlene, I wanted to come back and add a better explanation about the baseline cortisol info. Here's a quote from Dr. Peterson that gives more detail:
Basal cortisol concentrations, when used alone, are not reliable in the diagnosis of hyperadrenocorticism in dogs. Because of the episodic nature of cortisol secretion in dogs, basal cortisol concentrations fluctuate throughout the day, resulting in a high degree of overlap of values in normal dogs, dogs with nonadrenal illness, and dogs with hyperadreno-
corticism.1-4,17,18 The sensitivity of basal cortisol determinations in the diagnosis of hyperadrenocorticism is only about 0.5 (approximately 50% of dogs with the disease have high random cortical concentrations), whereas the specificity can be extremely low in dogs with severe nonadrenal illness. This severely limits the usefulness of basal serum cortisol concentrations in the diagnosis of hyperadrenocorticism. Plasma or serum cortisol values are only useful after dynamic stimulation with ACTH or suppression after dexamethasone.
http://www.researchgate.net/profile/Mark_Peterson11/publication/6294531_Diagnosis_of_hyperadrenocorticism_in_dogs/file/60b7d52acf3ee6045e.pdf
I know you're looking at the baseline in terms of symptoms and not purely diagnostics, but I'm guessing the same explanation would be involved. Since Molly's stimulated reserve is abnormally elevated, it is likely that there are indeed times (like when she is excited or stressed) when the cortisol release throughout her body is excessive. You've just not been catching those times on these baseline draws. As to why she does not evidence overt symptoms from this, I remain clueless but grateful!

Seems to be the food. The SO and maturity are both giving her the bad poops from what I can tell and when I use the Fromms food the poops have been some of the best ever. (the beef one gave an excellent poop I must say) However, and this is fine, as I'm using the sample up and will get some feedback from that trial run, but the fat content is too high for prolonged use, so I'll check out the maturity and less active senior food, as they have the least amount of fat content. (one of those you feed to Tipper)
I don't know if the kidney stones being small will throw off the UPC or not it's possible. Another question to follow up on.
It's true, we do birthday celebrations a lot around here. I think it is because neither of us have any extended family here, just our immediate, which is small, so our friends over the years have become our family, and each other, we do a lot for each other and spoil each other as much as we can and of course molly our baby.
Today will be a busy day as we'll be in and out, so I won't be on the forum that much.

Orangish. Is that liver? I was thinking it is. I know her liver supplement is bright orange in color too. But when her poops go off they seem to be orange.

05-10-2014, 07:11 PM
Hi Sharlene
If liver is off and it has to be way off to change poop colour, the colour of poop changes to pale greyish and the urine to orangey or dark. That is because the bile which gives poop its brown colour cannot get through the liver so spills back into the bloodstream and excreted through the kidneys hence the dark colour in the pee. So don't be worrying about liver here! Maybe is a bug, might be time for a poop specimen? x

Sharlene, Daisy's poops were orange and then yellow diarrhea when she contracted guardia. I would look into that since it requires antibiotics to get rid of. Hope she feels better soon!
Sharlene, it seems like most every time Jasper gets colitis, his poops are orangish at some point. This is usually an indicator that I need to start metronidazole. Hope Molly's tummy settles soon.

hmmm, interesting. I'm glad it's not his liver. Guess I'll have to take a specimen in and get them to check it. It hasn't returned to diarrhea, but it has gone soft. Strange because she didn't get any SO food today just the Fromm's. Two times today now it has been formed, but very soft.
I'll see what the morning brings.
I'm sleeping in tomorrow I hope. I've already told molly she best be planning have a lie in too. (she seldom listens) At least she doesn't act like she feels bad, had a nice walk tonight when we got home.
Tomorrow we have stepdaughter and her boyfriend here. They plus hubs are cooking breakfast for me. (prob more like brunch as I have no plans to move too early in the day)
I am going to get little miss straightened out one way or another. :) I wonder if it isn't colitis, or a bit of IBD with her and how often she gets this. So now I wonder if it was the food or not. I thought I had it figured out, because after the first Fromm's that day she had the best poops she's probably had since she was young, perfect poops. Now I wonder though. Drat it.
Marianne, I am inclined to think that molly does have cushings (due to the consistently higher cortisol and now the adrenal tumor) but I am hoping an LDDS test in June will tell us if things have changed and she will now test positive on the LDDS or not. If that adrenal tumor is functioning, don't you think it would show up on the LDDS now?
Then we are still back to the same question. Do we treat or not with her not having symptoms still. I measure water intake, check her food intake and what she eats, how much. Even the Fromms which she loves, she didn't eat all at breakfast, but came back in and grazed later. I kept thinking I must be missing something but I can't figure out what it would be. :(
hugs all, enough of this for one night. :)

I guess its hard to tell if she is still eating a little of both. Maybe transition fully to one type of food and see how she goes... not too fast either. Maybe that is what happened after she had the Fromm's with her tummy getting used to new food it just had a little spazzy attack hence the lastest soft ones?

I did get a bit of a lie in on Sunday. Loved it.
Molly is doing great again. She had a day of wobbly legs in the back and paw holding up in the front, but then seems to have recovered with gusto. This morning I had to catch her mid air as she jumped right almost over my arm in her enthusiasm to head downstairs to see what her daddy was up to. Then this afternoon after I got home from work, she finally after a long winter, got to spend some time running and running around the back yard checking out all the new scents. She had a grand time and when I asked her if she wanted a lift up the stairs to go inside, she did a running evasive maneuver and up the deck stairs she went. (they aren't steep luckily but they are many)
Poops have been back to normal in the mornings. Solid as I could possibly want. So, hopefully that will continue. She remains on the probiotic and low fat Fromms food at night till I know she is sorted. I mix in a bit of the SO if she isn't drinking enough, which has always been one of her issues.
Who'd think a dog with cushings you'd be having to try to get them to drink enough water?? It isn't that she doesn't just not have the outward symptoms but that she is actually the opposite in things like drinking water.
But I am not going down that road yet. Concentrating on the kidneys first, then we'll LDDS test later this summer and then see where we are at. It always seem to be wait and retest when it comes to molly muffin. Such a pampered little scamp she is.
:)

Glad to hear Molly is better with the poops. You are great with attacking things and getting them done, so the plan of starting on the kidneys sounds good. When there are so many issues like Tipper has, you just have to start dissecting one by one or you will go nuts with the whole ball of wax. Sounds like Molly had fun with the new smells in the yard. Tipper was happy for the 15 on the porch the other day checking to see if any critters had been in her territory! Can't wait until Friday and these darn storms are out of here. Blessings

I'm just tired today and still have to get through tomorrow at work. arrgghhh Then a 3 day weekend... Whoo Hoooo!
Raining a bunch here, but no thunder. Hubs said he noted that when I react to the storm or anything, molly feeds off of my reactions. So, I'll try to chill more when thundering and hope that helps. It should, it did yesterday, but not any bad ones here like have been down in the states.
I need a nap, and molly is already napping. Think I'll join her in a minute

It started up here again, so I gave Tipper the stronger brew. She is sleeping off and on now. I hate to do that to her, but have no choice. I also ordered the Bach remedy. I never got it before because of the alcohol, and it has a lot in it. I decided to do a search for the alcohol free version and low and behold they have one out. I just ordered it for her. I have to test it on her skin first because it is very flowery in the ingredients and she is so allergic to everything. I hope for the rest of the evening it is just rain. Does Molly sleep in her own bed or with you? She seems like she would be a cuddly sweetheart to curl up with. Hope you have a good nap. Blessings

Molly usually sleeps in her own bed on the floor, unless hubs is away then she takes 3/4 of a king size bed and gets huffy (makes huff and puff noises) till I pick her up and put her on the bed. :)
Molly looks cuddly but in reality, cuddles happen on her terms. She likes to get up right next to your leg on the couch, but doesn't want to be on a lap, unless it is for a treat and as soon as the treat is gone so is she.
In the bed, she doesn't want to be near anyone and will manage to take as much room as possible (not really sure how she does that) but if you touch her she'll move if she is in a "mood".
Hope the strong herbs help. I'm not sure of what we'll do when the thunderstorms get bad here. I usually am up all night with her then too as she shakes and pants. Best is if she will go under the bed till the storm passes, but she won't always do that.
Hope it's not bad tonight.

Pleased to hear things are getting sorted in the poop department :)
I'm picking up some new food for Henry next week (I really like Fromm but want to give him some variety so I've ordered Dr Tims) and I'm hoping he's going to be OK with it. When we first got him the breeder was giving him some total junk so I switched him (gradually) from the day he came home, however he didn't do very well with treats so I've restricted his diet quite a bit, but now he's older I'm hoping to expand his palate ;)
HaHa - love the bit about Molly on the bed. I'm convinced that the smaller the dog, the more room they manage to take up on a bed!!! OH and I unexpectedly had to share a bed with Hamish at a hotel once - we had an inch each and spent the night trying to stay on, whilst he took up the rest of the bed and snored loudly.

Things sound good with Molly..poops all good now, yay!
Trixie does cuddling on her own terms too, very much the same as you describe with Molly.
I hope the storms stay away from your area so that Molly doesn't get stressed! I hate when they shake and pant, poor pups. I think you're right when they find a place to ride it out-like under the bed it's better for them. It's so humid here...storms due tomorrow. We'll see how Trixie handles it, she seems a little better lately when she hears the heavy rain but thunder is another story!

Yay for good poops!! Funny how some of them react, we had a doozy of a thunderstorm earlier this week, Flynn could care less but he likes fireworks too and looks out the window at them if he gets the chance. What's this 3-day weekend you have, think I am missing out on something here as we do not have one!! STINK!! I think we have Queen's Birthday to look forward to in a couple of weeks!
My trip to Wellington earlier in the week was a disaster.... my direct 7am flight was cancelled to Welly, the meeting started at 9am. But the airline said they would fly me to Auckland, then straight down to Wellington. So off I went on my round the island flights :D Got there at 10.40am and the meeting finished at 11.30 LOL... then had to wait 2.5hrs to fly home. Crikey, that was a long day for a 45min meeting.
Hope your Friday goes well and cya on the weekend sometime! x

That is funny to look at Molly you would think she would be a cuddle bug. Tipper is independent like that too, if you touch her and she does not want to be touched she moves also, like don't bother me! It is dark he so I do not know what to expect today. Last nite the hard rain got her started panting. She is associating the hard rain with thunder. I just keep ignoring her and do my thing, but inside I feel horrible for her struggling with this. Hi Sharlene-
Our first dog, a Pekepoo-was horribly bothered by Thunderstorms. She would go into the bathroom where we had put in sliding shower doors and somehow manage to get her short little self into the tub, behind the shower doors and stand there and shake and pant. It was such a sorry sight. :(
Bailey, regarding sleeping patterns, has recently started wanting to share my pillow. I have not yet figured out the cause for this. At first, she seemed to be spooked by an alarm that had gone off....just a little one. She climbs so she drapes herself across the top of my pillow. The other night she progressed so her face was in my face. Sometimes I wake up and she has migrated on around to where she's barely clinging to the side of the bed. There really isn't room for two of us on the pillow. I'm letting this play itself out for the moment. It's an abrupt change in behavior.
Hugs.:)

Our three day weekend is Victoria Day, the Queens birthday, so ours is just earlier than yours Trish. (I always think STINK why aren't we getting all the holidays other countries are!) LOL I'll be jealous when yours comes around and I have to work.
Susan, I wonder what on earth is up with Bailey and the pillow.
Molly has had a better year this year so far with the storms than last, but not as much thunder either. All the really bad storms have missed us so far. Yay!
Molly continues to do good. I'm having a dickens of a time catching up with the IMS. My work has been so hectic busy, that I can't get on the phone with her, or she is in clinic and can't get on the phone with me. Yowser Good thing there isn't anything pressing at the moment, but I'm sure if it was, we'd both make the time.
Well, back to work. I'm swamped today!

Glad to hear Molly is still being a diva and cuddles are on her terms, my brother Lhasa is the opposite if he could sit in your chest all day long he,d be happy :D
I've used the rescue remedy Bach flowers on all my dogs for various situations and I use it for myself in nervous situations  a vet once told me if you drop it on the ear flap it goes into the blood stream quickier. My own vet uses it in nervous dogs before procedures, maybe worth a try for Molly in the storms
Hope work gets better and your not to swamped have a lovely weekend :)
Enjoy your three day weekend!!!! I cant wait for ours next weekend. Sad that we have to get excited about 3 days off, it should be a five day weekend;););););) I hope you relax and just have a great three days.
How's the pool? I think we will either have to open ours or pumps water out, all the rain has it filled to the top:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I Know 5 day weekends would be perfect, work a couple days..yea, I'm on board!
Ugh the pool. I've never Seen it be so green algae filled before, must have been all the rain we got earlier in the spring. It's a perfect clear color now, but wow, yuck to start out. Still not heated up and hubby is testing today. It did clear up in one day once we got the cleaner in there for the bottom and the algae killer. It's actually kind of coolish today and grey looking.
I've been out going over the bushes and plants. I think we lost all the tea and climbing roses. A couple of the bush roses Might make it. 2 emerald cedars lost, 1 alberta cedar looks pretty bad. Guess it's time to redo some landscaping, maybe take the opportunity to make some changes. Ugh, sounds like a project!
I think I'll head out the nursery and see if I can come up with some ideas. Take the jeep just in case I Do get inspired and need to load up. hahaha
Have a good weekend all. I might not be around much if I get inspired!

Ha, this morning, we did 3 trips to one nursery, 3 trips to the other, bought annuals for the window boxes and I wasn't happy. Most of the wave petunias have no flowers yet, my window boxes are mostly green:rolleyes::rolleyes:
I hope you have better stock of plants then we do. It has been just too darn cold here and I still have not called the pool guy so I imagine our pool with be green as well:(
Good luck with the landscaping though it feels good to get out and dig and look at plants, doesnt it?

Just got back from 3 nurseries. All I got was a bunch of geraniums. They look good but boy prices are higher this year! Think I will go back to the big nursery though as I just had brilliant thought of black cedar mulch for front and back yards. 20 bags and a bottle of ibprophen might do it!!

Henry's the same as Molly when it comes to water, although he does show a lot of interest in the bathtub when there's no risk of a bath ;)
You're all putting me to shame with your gardening tales, however my excuse is that no matter what we do our one flower bed gets overtaken by an enormous fast growing weed, so anything which is planted is soon overcome and killed off. I've given up, and just spend the summer pulling it out and waiting for the next batch to appear
It's sunny and warm here today so we've been clearing out the garages making space for another car

Ohhhh gardening, I quite like it too!! I actually have a big geranium with tiny pink flowers on it that I need to deal to today before it starts over running the driveway. My pots are all dead so a trip to garden centre maybe next week if I can get them all cleared up today, another gorgeous sunny day but frosty to start. But I am liking frost at the moment as think of it as natural flea killer!! :D Awww Molly helping in the garden, they are some of my favourite times pottering in the garden with the Flynn by my side! He does like to dig, I just need to train him to dig in the bits that need digging!! I nearly twisted my ankle yesterday when I rolled it in a new hole!

I guess everyone will be outside taking care of whatever happened over the winter. I am going to enjoy the day with Tipper and Toby. That is cute about Molly with the water. That is one of my regrets that Tipper can no longer use her pool and play with her fish and try to kill it, she just gets too excited and works herself into a frenzy which is not good now. It is very cold here with frost on the ground, hope it warms up. Blessings

Yes we will be outside this afternoon doing more yard stuff. :)
This morning I am going to do laundry or try to and get that out of the way. I have to pack up some things I am sending out and Diabetes Association is sending around a truck tomorrow to do pick up for them. I have most of it laid out on a bed, folded up, just need to box and bag it.
Molly continues to have good poops for which I am thankful. We had fireworks last night. She didn't do the shake thing at all, but had a bit of nerves, jumpy, and then once we put her on the couch by us, she flipped over onto her back and went right to sleep. So that was good.

LOL I Always love it when it is done, it's just the process of getting there that is exhausting. :)
However, pool is open and progress on the yard is being made. It's going to take some time to get the bushes/sm trees out that didn't make it from this winter and then redo it. The weather was finally good today so that we got more accomplished.
Then out of nowhere, lighting in a clear sky and thunder, then bham, in came the rain. Molly freaked, we ignored her, she recovered and then the kids setting off fireworks started and now she is underneath my feet.
We made the decision to cancel the Europe trip this year. Too much stuff going on at work on hubby's plate, so it's not going to happen. That is two years we have cancelled vacation plans because of cruddy timing. A new CEO that is making changes, definitely represents cruddy timing.
We'll see what else the year hold for us and possibilities, but for now, a big away trip is a no go. Oh well, life happens right.
I do know that I'll be away in September for sure for at at least a long weekend. That is a family event that I won't cancel for anyone or any work. I think he'll be going with me :) :) If not, oh well.

Sorry to hear your vacation is cancelled. Maybe just go somewhere closer for now? You know it's a funny thing but Tipper knows the difference between fireworks and thunder. What a whopper of a storm last nite, nothing but rolling thunder all nite long. Tipper is really struggling with this weather, I hope the Bach's Remedy is here on the 30th to try it too. Did you have this weather last nite? If so I hope Molly did well. Is she still doing ok with the poops on this food? When are you going to take her back for a tumor check? Whooo hoooo!!! I can't wait for this week to be over. I worked from 8:30 - 3:30 constant today with no break. Then drove home and back online at 4:00pm to work till 5:00pm. Whew, you know it's bad when co-workers stop by and drop off a coffee and doughnut at like 2pm, because they see you going at it nonstop. Thank god for co-workers!!
Nope, not a swim yet, hubby has though. He is some kind of strange creature, was up at 5:30am, did a work out, had a swim, sent some emails then up for a shower and to work. I told him that was VERY UN-natural! LOL
We took Molly once up to a friends cabin for the weekend. She did okay but she doesn't like automobiles and traveling. If she did we would definitely take her anywhere we could drive too. She gets so scared though, shaking something horrible that we don't do it. I think that the cabin on the lake sounds wonderful!! I bet Koko would live that too and probably do wonders for you and hubby too, Addy. Do it!!
Oh I'm sure we'll do something Trish, you know us. LOL I'm already trying to decide where we can go for say a long weekend at the end of June. Last time we went to Prince Edward Island and it was wonderful. Awesome Lobster, and Anne of Green Gables area is so lovely. I'd be there all summer in a heart beat if possible.
Haven't hooked up with the IMS yet. This week was bad for me for personal time. I called her this evening and if possible she'll call back.
I want to mainly see, if I can do a free catch for the next UPC, ask if the kidney stones might be affecting that value. (i can't get molly to a vet first thing in the morning without her going to the bathroom). I want to let her know that I'd like to do another LDDS to see if the adrenal tumor is secreting cortisol. (that would leave, non secreting or pheo if not) and then based on what that comes back as, discuss whether we want to try the melatonin and lignans to bring down the other sex hormones. I know it won't do much for cortisol level and that with high cortisol she isn't truly atypical cushings either.
And still NO symptoms of cushings. This does drive me crazy on a daily basis. LOL
I guess her next ultrasound would be in about a month or two? have to look at when we did this one.
No storms here and molly is fine. Her poops are Great for now. Her appetite though is sucking. Unless there is canned food involved. (i added some shredded chicken Fromms (lowest fat content I could find of that brand) and a bit more of the Fromms kibble to her breakfast that she didn't finish to get her to eat tonight.
Ohhh you have to let us know what was cooked up for in the morning Trish.

Sorry you have to cancel your planned trip Sharlene. You never know why things work like they do...with travel I always feel the way it all happens is what's meant to be. So maybe when you next go it will be an extra fantastic trip! :)
Trixie is not a traveler either. She gets carsick sometimes and when we get to the destination she's hyper and pulling all over place to sniff out everything...not exactly a mellow, go with the flow type of gal, so taking her anywhere that's not the usual is no fun for me.
I have always wanted to check out PEI, ever since reading Anne of Green Gables. Wow...the lobster and mussels there must be fantastic. We have a mussels restaurant two blocks away that has a location on PEI as well, all the mussels come in fresh from there and the seafood is soooo good there.
Someday I'd like to go to PEI...especially as I can't stand the heat anymore and I think the temps there in the summer would be just perfect..not too hot! :o I've been to Vancouver a couple times, and up to Whistler. Love Vancouver so much..what a great city and so clean and beautiful. Whistler was fantastic, it was years ago and that was the last time I was skiing, we had a blast there.
Where in Europe were you going to go?
Sorry Molly's appetite is not up to snuff...is it that she just doesn't care for the food? Is she perking up for any foods...treats of some kind? I hope that improves soon!

Flynn does a free catch for his UPC, I get the first one which seems to work OK... I get a supply of specimen jars so I can catch it straight into that to keep it clean as possible, I also don't get the first bit of the flow so hopefully to lessen any sediment that has settled at bottom of the bladder. It's a bit easier with a boy though :D
Awww wish she did not get carsick, then she could come too for your little jaunts! But the PEI sounds just lovely, nice place to get away from it all!! See you on the weekend :)

I think Molly is just being a bugger and trying to hold out for canned food on her kibble. She does like the Fromms, so this good and it is giving her digestive tract what appears to be the best settling she has had for awhile. Oh yea, she is always gung ho for treats and anything canned, but she'll leave her kibble in the bowl all day. It's not her teeth because right around 7 - 8 pm, she is back in the kitchen at the drawer where she gets her dental stick from, which she gets once a day. I think if her teeth bothered her that she wouldn't be wanting those and her poops are so firm, that I don't think there is anything off with her tummy either. She is just being you know, molly. :)
We were going to go to Budapest to visit my brother in law and his fiancee, and spend some time in Vienna.
We'll go somewhere close by for a couple days or so and be happy. We really like to be home in the summers anyway. In September we're going to California, so it all works out.
Gads, heard about the virus down in the Carribean so don't wan to go there. I wonder if Bermuda or Bahamas are having any problems with that virus. I nixed the idea of Cabo San Lucas, which I'd thought about but too long of a flight for a couple days. Might be on my calendar this winter though. (if things remain good with molly that is) I love to travel and wish that molly did better with it. I'd love to be able to put her in the cabin on a flight with us and take her everywhere. She'd throw a major doggy fit I'm sure if I even considered that. My cat flew and wouldn't acknowledge me for days afterwards, but put him in a vehicle with my golden and they were set to go anywhere.
Looks like we'll have a nice weekend here! More gardening? :) My Friday is decent and making up for the rest of this work week. A friend keeps sending me links to dirty lyric songs on youtube (jokes) and is keeping me amused.
I love Vancouver Barbara, even better I love Vancouver Island and Victoria. We go often, as we have family there. PEI is pretty darn fabulous though and if you get a chance to go definitely do so.
Quebec City is another place that isn't too far and is absolutely wonderful. Another place we've been many times.

I give her the pedegree denta stix, small.
I tried her on the greenies, but the way she chews on them, I figure she was going to end up chocking on one. I have to watch her with that as she will try to swallow anything she has in her mouth if you get too close to her and she thinks you're going to take it away. She's been that way since I've had her so figure it was something from her previous life, protect what is hers.
There are some enzyme dental chews you can get too that are good, but molly gets overly aggressive with them and we had to stop giving them.
I'd think anything like that would work. Molly has been on these for at least 7 or more years.
You should definitely do a trip up to Quebec City and stay in the old town. In the summer time it's lovely! It's lovely in the winter too, in Feb when they have the festival, but it's way too bloody cold for me at that time of year. Great food! And the Plains of Abraham are very expansive. You can just see the seige and the fight for the city. It's awesome and if you get to Quebec City, then head out of town and take the hwy up the coast along the St. Lawrence, you can go all the way up to Taldussac and go whale watching, which is wonderful there! I do love that area of the world.

So finally touched base with the IMS. She said she had been swamped with last weekend being a holiday weekend here and a lot of very sick animals coming in. She worked 50 hours in 3 days, so, I feel for her and was very understanding that molly isn't an emergency and we can talk when we both have time to really devote to the conversation.
First, Patti, because I know that you specifically wanted me to ask, she felt that at least with Molly a rupture wasn't likely. Never saying never of course, but she had only seen one ruptured adrenal tumor and it was one that had taken off and started to grow and the dog was on trilostane treatment at the time. This however, for us is a small tumor and likely benign or she felt that molly would be showing symptoms. She doesn't think an LDDS would do any harm, but she expects it to flat line again. She does not think this is a functional adrenal tumor due to both adrenal tumors being bilaterally enlarged and no sign of the other adrenal shrinking, which Should mean that this one isn't secreting cortisol. However, that is not to say it won't grow or change, so we'll redo ultrasound in a month. (that would be 3 months from last ultrasound)
UPC, yes I can do a free catch, she wants a urinalysis at the same time for each check. She felt that it was unlikely that the kidney stones would cause an elevation, because when you see that, you also see an increase in red blood cells, which molly only had a trace that was likely due to the needle and not stones. She didn't think it would be a factor, unless the urinalysis showed high red blood cell count.
We will also be doing liver test, especially ALKP/ALT and if I want to do a mini liver panel that is fine too, but we want to know where the values are at, and then we'll start the melatonin and lignans. Now the reason for this treatment is not to address the high cortisol and she is not classifying molly as a typical atypical because of the high cortisol, but she does think this is a fairly benign treatment, that won't hurt molly and the goal for us is to see if these, over a long term, would have any effect on Molly's liver values (if in fact it brings down the sex hormones, etc). So, for us it's about the liver right now.
The other option of what is causing the high cortisol for molly could be an underlying systemic disease. One of our biggest problems is that molly does not act like a dog with either cushings or a systemic disease.
She doesn't want to do a biopsy of the liver if not needed as she finds dogs with higher, uncontrolled cortisol can have bleeding during biopsy, it is risky. She also doesn't recommend operating on the adrenal gland at this time.
If none of this works with the melatonin/lignans for her liver, then we might try a very low dose of trilostane, monitored by ACTH to see what effect that the low dosage is having on her cortisol If any. That is an option in the future as she said she thinks we have time to try other options first.
I know there are probably things I forgot or didn't mention to her. I was trying to go through my notes that I had from our thread here and cover it all. Low Alderstone with adrenal tumors, usually functional adrenal tumors, we don't think molly's is. High sex hormones, would that be causing some cortisol to raise, some, not necessarily a lot though.
So, there you have it. We have a plan. Such as it is. Molly is a dog who doesn't exhibit any problems and it seems that makes it much harder to diagnose definitively.

Sharlene-I've been reading along with you for quite some time now and I remain confused. This cute little Molly does not exhibit any problems. From what I read, unless I am missing some lines here or there, most of her tests are negative. She tested positive on the ACTH test at some point. Is that the only thing that is out of whack? I know she can be a bit "particular" at times, but so can I :) . I know she strained her back last winter. You just seem to be having a lot of tests and either I haven't been paying close enough attention or I've just really missed something. Can you help me fill in my black hole?

Really pleased that you managed to talk to the IMS and now have a plan for Molly. Just out of interest, are there any cortisol related illnesses that Molly's breed are prone to develop?
The latest picture of Henry on the beach was taken on PEI not too far from Cavendish. We've made loads of trips to PEI - there's a great dog outfitters at the gateway village where the lady once altered one of the coats for Hamish.
We did Quebec City and the drive to Tadoussac about 10 years ago - think we'll have to do it again sometime as I was reading that you can do a kayaking trip to see the whales.

Susan, I know it does seem over much when you think of how Molly acts. So, here is why we started down this road:
My vet has been insisting for several years now that molly likely has cushings, due to her elevated liver enzymes, continuing to rise. She said pot belly and thinning hair. Molly's belly goes down when she loses weight and increases when she puts weight on, so I never thought about it. I know she still gets long hair, and needs groomed regularly, her shaved areas always grow back, so I discounted. Her LDDS test that we had each time the vet wanted to check, were negative, so we kept saying not cushings.
Then she had an ACTH and it came back high. I came here and joined in and had an ultrasound, liver enlarged, both adrenal enlarged. Still no symptoms, repeat LDDS, negative still.
Just last month, an ACTH showed her cortisol and sex hormones all high (LDDS in December was still negative)
I've had her liver enzymes monitored regularly since they started to go up. Now they are going up again and the IMS hopes that the melatonin/lignans will help, but it's an unknown. Is cushings causing her to have high cortisol? We don't know. Is it a disease? we don't know. She thinks a liver biposy even if we did one, would show steroid damage due to the high cortisol and not tell us anything more than what we know now. Recommendation is to not have one. Now she has an adrenal nodule too, but we think non secreting.
So that about sums it up. high cortisol positive, ldds negative, liver enlarge, adrenals bilaterally enlarged, adrenal nodule. What do we do about what is going on inside her of her with symptoms not present?
:( I know it seems like there isn't anything wrong at all with molly by her actions and I am thankful for that every single day and watch her like a hawk, dreading any change. Yet there is something, somewhere causing her to produce cortisol. We just don't know what it is for sure.
The fear is that eventually this will cause even more problems inside of her. So anything we can do, to get a handle on stopping or slowing down the damage to her internal organs, is where we are at.
Hope that help explain the situation. I know that many probably are wondering why all the testing with molly when she has no symptoms. It's because what is happening inside of her will eventually cause real problems. I wouldn't have known if I hadn't pursued the ultrasound. I got the ultrasound because my vet had already sold me the vetroyl to start molly on and only by being here did I learn that I should have further testing and Not start her out on vetroyl for no real reason that we knew of at that time. That was what, 3 years ago now.
Here we are, years later, I'm still confused. Everything I know says either molly has cushings and just is in a low percentage of not showing typical symptoms and one of 5% that return negative on LDDS, or she has an underlying disease that is causing it and that we don't know what is.

MC, I don't know about kayaking, not sure I've seen any of those out on the water. We did the zodiac, which was a lot of fun. We we went ahead of where we thought they would come up and cut the engine and they showed up all around us. It was both thrilling and scary. They are HUGE and made us seem very small. Could have flipped us at any point. I love that drive up the river. We've done it several times and always love it. For awhile we went up to Taddussac almost every year. Molly is a mix, shih tzu/llahso. Rescue, so no real definite history for her.
I don't know if there is anything her breeds are prone too.

Yay, glad you managed to have the chat with the IMS!! I find this all very interesting that you have been given similar recommendations as mine just gave me, reassuring they think along the same lines! But you have the benefit of knowing exactly where you are with the adrenal panel.
So my understanding is the liver tests will be repeated for Molly and if still high, start the melatonin and lignans. I need to do a bit more reading to find out how they both work exactly. Might be a project for tomorrow.
I wish I could have the adrenal hormones tested but cannot here in NZ. So if we did the same as you we would be going in a bit blind and that is scary mind you if it is not going to do him any harm, maybe worth a try? Mind you Flynn also has very good reason with his various liver nodules to have elevated LFTs, but there has always been the lingering thought of various IMS that something else was going on.
Good to hear the UPC can be a free catch, I have found the first pee in the am, before he drinks and hydrates has given best results. FWIW I agree about postponing liver biopsy and surgery. How did she explain it was not cortisol excreting, with Molly's high cortisol on ACTH?
So we sit tight for another month, then do it all again!! I do like the sound of your IMS Sharlene, gosh she has been putting in the hours so nice she had the time to chat! xx

I know it may seem as though I am fixated on kidney issues, but in reply to Susan's question, I'm going to add the possible spilling of protein into the "hidden damage" mix. I know you are monitoring that, and I think with good reason because I would think that increasing elevation in protein loss would be another prime reason for lowering cortisol, regardless of cause.
Sharlene, I see that the IMS is still totally steering away from maintenance dosing of Lysodren should the decision be made to add something beyond lignans and melatonin. Has she explained why she would prefer trilo? In Molly's situation of of already very large adrenals, an adrenal nodule, and elevated intermediates, I would prefer maintenance Lyso if she were my dog. Heck, maybe Lyso might even decrease the nodule since it has been known to actually necrose adrenal tumors in some cases. Due to lack of overt symptoms, I understand the hesitation to load her, but I do believe UTK would be suggesting maintenance Lyso in this situation [see my clarification in a later reply] and I don't understand why your IMS does not seem to want to even consider it as an option.

Sharlene:
You got a lot of information about your Molly, sorry it is not really clear what is going on. I hate when these babies are a mystery. Am I understanding that if the alderstone is low that that is normally a non functioning tumor or is it the opposite? Also I am concerned about Tipper's tumor growth in light of what Marianne said about the Trilostane vs the Lysodren. Now that is making me a little nervous too. It is a shame that nothing is really black or white and leaves so many grey areas. You are so good at this Sharlene that I am sure you will get it figured out. Hope you have a good weekend.

The kidney is actually our first concern at the moment. Thanks for adding that Marianne as it can indeed be a product of high cortisol to have protein loss and kidney damage. Her thoughts is that this could be a kidney damage problem not stones causing the higher UPC. We'll see what the next two test show.
Lysodren maintenance hasn't been ruled out. Her concern is that whatever lysodren does to the adrenal glands will be permanent and she wants to start with the melatonin ligand first. The liver test Trish is to get a new baseline reading before starting the melatonin lignans and then follow up to see if there is any change.
Then if that doesn't help and we have to wait months to see. Then we'll move on to next steps.
She thinks benign because if it was secreting then she thinks that gland would be larger than the other and it isn't trending that way.
Not sure if I covered all the questions or not.
She said that she feels we have time to try and get it figured out as long as we monitor appropriately and adapt as needed. Her motto is cause no harm. So she thinks that with no symptoms she wants to be careful in what steps we take and not tip the scale too far towards something that would not be beneficial while trying to manage the kidney liver.
Thanks for all input it is appreciated. I make notes of any thought and questions advice given and then bombard her with them. Lol. We talk so much other stuff on here that I don't want the serious stuff to get over looked so no fear. I do take notes!

Thanks for the additional info, Sharlene. I just want to correct a misstatement that I made earlier, in that for cases of elevated cortisol, I believe UTK would recommend either trilo or loading doses of Lysodren. So maintenance Lyso dosing would not be their suggestion other than in instances when it is the elevation of other intermediates that is the issue. But since your IMS is sort of treating Molly like an Atypical case right now, that is the basis for my interest in the maintenance Lysodren.

I totally get that Susan, my brain regularly hurts trying to figure it out. :)
Oh yum, steaks. I'm thinking of that for tomorrow actually. Today we are both wiped out from yard work. I got a bee in my bonnet (so to speak) and hit the nurserys this morning. I made one trip and came back with loads of plants, dropped them off, set them where I wanted them to be and told hubs I was off to another nursery to check out what they had. When I came back hubby was in the garden planting what I had set out and on a roll. So I set out the other stuff, and then we started pulling out bags of the black mulch we had bought last weekend and a full blown project was born. :)
Now we are both too tired to even look at the grill, so I'm ordering chinese. Nothing like a hot bowl of won ton soup (this local place makes the best) to really get that good feeling going. So, my plan for the night is to curl up on the couch with hubs, find a good movie and eat chinese till I can't move. Burp and start all over again. (sorry if that sounded gross, but you know how it is with chinese. You eat and 20 minutes later you're hungry again). :)
Molly is already munching on her dinner. I put her on the leash and she laid in the shade and watching hubs doing the planting. A proper supervisory position and I'm sure she'll need a nap soon to recover. hahaha
Marianne, from what the IMS was saying I don't think she wants to do a lysodren load with molly. She might consider a straight to maintenance, or trilostane if the melatonin/lignans doesn't work, but she doesn't seem to want to do a load, since she isn't sure yet, what is causing the high cortisol.
I Think that she is hoping it is the sex hormones that is actually contributing to higher levels of cortisol and that this might have some effect, but I think that is just a hope, not a full blown theory even.
Wow, you know you're tired when you write this and then walk away thinking you posted and come back going..hmm...where is that post I made at.
Hubs is in the pool and I got distracted with his yucky laundry. LOL

YUM Won Ton soup, I used to make it but lost the recipe. Must hunt that out again, I ordered some a week or so back and it was not as good!! That sounds like a great plan for the evening, nothing like chilling out after a hard days work in the garden. I have put that off this weekend as the bin is already full!! Need a bit of winter colour though, I think the extent of it today will be finally planting my tulips that have been resting in the fridge for at least a month! Love BBQ weather, nothing like the smell of it of smoky meat :D Sounds like you deserve a glass of that nice wine too!
Sharlene, thanks for posting all the detailed information about Molly. It is always a learning experience with her. So happy that she feels good and doesn't have symptoms.
Just reading about all you accomplished today makes me feel like I need a nap! We have had a beautiful day here too, but I haven't taken very good advantage of it as far as the yardwork.

When Zoe was on melatonin and lignans, after 3 months, her estradiol was normal and the other intermediates had gone done somewhat, did not touch her cortisol which was sky high though.
I hope it helps Molly. Which lignans will you use?

I wish I could find it, I actually bought some chicken stock in the groceries yesterday thinking I would make my own. A chef gave it to me... it had stock, spring onions, wontons, sesame oil, soy sauce, hmmmm that's all I can remember... oh and a beaten up egg which you dripped in slowly at the end to get that eggy look if you like that. I need to go to an Asian store to get some wontons, none in the supermarket.
Addy, what changes did you notice in Zoe with her intermdiates coming back down?? Did it change her lab values like LFTs or renals?

In the beginning, Zoe did not have high liver values, just high cholesterol so I cant really say. The highest her liver values ever went was about 800 - that was also during the time of her really bad IBD flare and she was on a pretty high dose of metronidazole for 3 months so I dont know how much that also may have contributed to her highest reading but then after we removed her tumor and her cortisol was easier to control it went back to normal on the Vetoryl but it had already come down to 500 before then and she was on a much lower dose of metronidazole daily.
It is worth trying I think.

Tis true, his new job is pool boy. :)
Molly had a couple days of kind of not feeling great, off her food a bit. Turned the AC on and yesterday she was right as rain and full of energy playing. So funny she had a piece of paper towel she was attacking, then she lost it and was looking all over the floor and behind the door for it, even barked at me to find it for her, next thing I know she was chewing, she'd lost it in her Mouth the entire time!!! Molly is cute but I don't think necessarily brilliant.
Today I notice she was being a bit ginger on her back legs again, and off her food a tiny bit (not a lot or enough to cause concern, but we know right) I'm guessing she stepped wrong and twinged it, probably running up and down the steps to the window seat.
Just had a torrential down pour here that lasted maybe 5 minutes, a river running down the street. Now the sun is out and most things are dried off already due to heat/humidity.
So we've decided that we'll still get away for a few days, even though we can't do a long vacation right now and we've decided to go to Newfoundland and go whale watching. They have the largest migratory whale traffic through there of anywhere, and are in the thousands, all different kinds. If we get lucky and see some icebergs that would be cool too but not sure we will has their season usually ends in june and we can't go till end of june. Still it's all about the adventure, getting away from work and enjoy life. :)
I love that the summer activities are starting around here. We're heading out thursday night to hear a friends friend, sing at The Old Mill, a group of us are going, so that should be fun. Not sure if my hubby will make it or not, but we'll see. Then there is a charity country western dance a couple weeks later, that we haven't decided about. I don't think they would let me bring molly but wouldn't she be cute.
So, life is moving along. I'm sure molly will get over her off day. Poops are wonderful and that is always a sign if those go haywire on us.

I expect it to be back to normal tonight or tomorrow. I think it is her legs bothering her. Now that I know from the IMS that they are both a factor, you can see them get a bit wobbly when one bothers her and she relies on the bad knee to over compensate. Sure enough she just went running in to the living room to grab a toy after slinging water from her beard all over me.
Long as those poops are solid, I know it isn't gastro upset, so it will resolve. :)

Sharlene, how do you find energy to go out on a work night? I must be getting really old. Sounds like a lot of fun though.

Sorry to hear that Miss Molly is feeling a bit under the weather, although very pleased to hear that the poops are OK despite that. Maybe a bit of hydrotherapy in the pool?
Your trip to Newfoundland sounds great - I haven't been but maybe one day.... OH went a few years ago and saw loads of caribou crossing the roads.
We just picked the new car up and I'm so not excited, although I'm trying to show some enthusiasm for OH's benefit- is that bad??? I find it difficult to pretend
It's not helped by the fact that it's an ex-demo and was unbelievably dirty when we picked it up, so they sprayed some toxic stuff around (although did nothing about the actual dirt) and now there's no way Henry's going anywhere near it until I've got the energy to give it a very thorough proper clean. In the meantime I did suggest putting the roof down and driving to the local car wash ;) Oh well, it's only meant to be OH's daily driver so I suppose I don't have to like it - in fact it would be a problem if I did given the appalling roads around here :p

Addy, I can go because, it's tons of fun and because I'm in total denial as to how tired I'll be the next morning :) :) :)
Booked in a bbq for Saturday night with friends. I don't know how it is where everyone else is, but here, it's like we hibernate most of the winter, coming out only for the holiday party season, then back into our caves and then watch out once the good weather starts, because we're all rearing to go go go once the sunshine is out!
I think molly feels the same way, as she had a great walk this morning, full of energy, solid poops, sniffing all the trees and then running to the next one, ate her breakfast, except not all of her dry kibble, which is fairly normal, she's always been a grazer, not a stuffer. So, guess we are back on track.
Uh oh MC, not loving the new ride eh?!! Well, you have the lovely stang to satisfy those, lets go cruising the hwys and back road urges. :) :)

Today just started out bad, hubby is stressed at work and that ends up with us feeling it here at home too. I'm a bit stressed about work too. Our department could end up on the cutting block of the new CEO and there is just no way to tell when we'll know, this year, next year or what is going on.
All in all it ended at the shoe store and a pair of Ivanka Trump sandals in my possession, along with a few others. The nice thing is that I get to wear them tonight to the Jazz thing. Plus I'm not driving, so some girly drinks for me. Hubs will meet us at some point, after his meeting, but in the mean time I'm going with friends and we're meeting more friends there, so a big group of us to support this Jazz singer who is a friend of a friend. We love music so we'll go support friends playing, singing no matter where it is. This time it is in a very nice bar at an inn. (lucky us!) You should have seen us the night we did a jazz crawl. Rented a bus and went from stop to stop all over the area and into downtown Toronto. I got home at like 4am. Dead tired and a smile on my face. We do have some good times I have to admit.

Oh yea, Patti, Molly is using the steps now. She has no choice really as I have a long body pillow on each side of the steps so she can't just jump up. She isn't totally thrilled but has adapted to get to her beloved window. LOL
Will catch up on some threads then outta here. (yep I'll be dragging tomorrow but like I said, Denial is my friend!)

Sharlene:
That is really cool that Molly is using the steps! Tipper on the other hand will at times use the ramp and others she won't she is so stubborn and thinks her way is the only way! It was cool her yesterday and this morning, but the humidity is to return big time next week. These cooler temps are so much better for Tipper. Hope you had a ball watching the singer. Blessings

Well, that just won't do Sharlene. We won't be able to laugh at your auto correct/ typos. :D I have been trying to get that bra on Rosie. It is like wrangling a pig at the county fair. She will have none of it!:D:D:D I hope it's fixed soon. Xxxxxx

hahahahah, Kathy!
It is when I am not on the computer and instead on a phone or ipad that you get the most autocorrect typo's. Fear not! If the computer goes kaput any more, then you're likely to see more typos as I try to stay connected with the phone. Of course my phone was acting up too. *sigh*
hmm, you mean one leg at a time doesn't work for bra'ing dogs? huh. How about that. Now pig wrestling. That is a visual indeed!

Good morning! Blardy computer problems, such a nuisance at times. You do very well typing on your phone, I revert to txt talk on there as it is so annoying typing on the tiny keyboard :D:D
You will have to tell us how the jazz was, good night? Not too much recovering needed the next day?? What a beautiful old building :)
Seems to be a week for work hassles, had my fair share too  Still 3-day weekend now, thanks Queen!
Pleased to hear you are swimming and shopping and Molly doing good too! x

Jazz night was very good. That girl has a perfect pitch to her and some awesome vocal cords. I bought her latest cd. (of course) We had a good group, 10 of us there and sat around on couches and chairs and kept finger food and drinks coming all night. Then the friend who invited us picked up the tab for everyone, which was very nice too. Great time had by all. It is a nice building isn't it. We go to dinner there and sunday brunch sometimes, special oldies dance/dinner nights, put on by a local radio station, where they broadcast from the dance floor. Fun stuff!
Recovery was a bit tough this morning, my denial shot right out the window when I hubby woke me and said I'd have to go to the office today, still had to get molly's urine sample and drop at the vet. It was Not my best day by far. Of course my director dropped in for a chat today too.
So far my connection is holding good. Cross fingers they fixed it. It was an entire area from what I could tell and even if you don't use their services but someone else, they own the lines that brings it into your home. So, affected a lot of people. yea, tmi on telephone, cable, tv issues there right. LOLOLOL
Molly btw, was not cooperative with the collection process. Every time I'd reach down to put the container under her, she'd clamp up and move on. I was walking up and down the street with a plastic container with a bit of urine in it, putting it under every time she'd decide to go, on and on and on, till I finally said that is it, I hope I have enough. She also wouldn't do any other business this morning, but boy she had to when I got home from work!! LOL she was like, yea, lets go walkie NOW mom!! NOW, NOW! (punctuate with barks at me and the door combined, girl knows how to get her point across just fine when she wants to)
It's weekend Trish!! Lovely Queen, having a birthday and all. I enjoyed ours and hope you have a grand time too!

Haha crazy dog lady following her dog with the container... someone wrote here once that they were doing the same and some kind neighbour told her she did not have to collect up the wee's just the poops!! Can't remember who it was now but it cracked me up... least I only have to do it in the privacy of our own yard!!
What a fab night and no bill at the end of it, love your friends!! :D:D

Sharlene:
I bet the neighbor think you have lost your marbles with that container!! I cut a new Dixie cup down to about an inch high. Them I get a piece of sticky tape and wrap it inside out in a circle and put it on the end of a yard stick. I stick the cup to the tape and voila' I just walk along and don't have to bend over so she does not hear me getting near her precious Koochie to get a sample!! It works like a charm. Sometimes I even tape the sterile urine cup to the end and so it that way. Have a good weekend with Molly. Blessings

Sounds like a lovely evening, and how lovely of your friend to treat everyone.
Patti - that is a brilliant idea. When I had to get a sample from Hamish once the vet nurse said she'd do it so we were both following him down the (rather busy) street with a shallow dish. For a dog who normally stopped at anything and everything upright, he was awfully reticent!!
I'm shattered - I've been cleaning the cars' interiors, including the one where Henry decided to sample OH's large bag of bagel chips whilst we were on vacation...... unbelievably it was worse than the time he tried the banana cake

We were out to a bbq at a friends house last night. Always good to catch up with them, as they are a couple of our BFF's. :)
Molly is doing good, back to not wanting to eat so much though of her dry kibble. She wants to wait for the wet to go on it and then will eat that and a bit of the dry. Just not overly interested in food right now, seems to not be a big deal to her though, she has off days of eating, so not worried really.

Funny how they have their definite foodie preferences!! Flynn is the same in preferring wet food. He does like the dehydrated food though. Is Molly's weight steady through her ups and downs with intake?
molly muffin
06-01-2014, 09:35 PM
Yes she seems to be okay weight wise. She has probably fluctuated about 2 lbs over the last 7 years at most. With most of her weight dropping during boarding, when she refuses to eat almost any dry food and then back up when she gets home and will eat dry again with the wet. She also doesn't eat as well or as much on days I am at the office compared to days that I am home. That is the only way you can actually tell that she doesn't like me being away from her for too long.
I did laundry and now am watching really terrible natural disaster end of the world movies. In that I can't believe this one studio "Asylum" cranks out these bad of movies over and over. yea, I know I'm watching them but it's almost like a funny by this point. Truly horrible acting too.
On the other hand, I LOVE Judi Dench. She is the awesome. I read that she is almost blind now and has her scripts read to her and she memorizes them. She hits it all on cue too, you'd never know. That is a true professional with an excellent memory.
Molly is actually having some problems today with her bad knee. If not one thing it's another, so she doesn't want to walk to far, I can see her being wobbly on it. I thought I was going to have to carry her on the return of a walk with a doggie friend. She sat down and didn't want to move. I gave her a bit of a leg massage, into the correct position and off she went like nothing was bothering her.
Maybe that is why she has been off her food today. (although wants her treats just fine and has had her dental bone) so calorie intake is okay.
hugs

Yes Judi is fantastic, in this one she is a funny little old Irish lady looking for her son that was taken off her by the nuns in the 1950s, but she can equally do the whole imperious royal Queen too!! Such variety in her acting. Love her!
Not so keen on the sci-fi ones though, so think I would be off playing in the corner with Molly at your house right about now! :)
Good her weight is stable, not good with the limp!! Flynn is doing it more and more after getting up, I am not letting him jump out the car anymore. I always lift him in but he has been fine jumping out but just do not want him to jar it. He walks his off in a few steps too, it is only when he has been lying down a while. Haven't really gone over this with Mike as it comes and goes so much I forget about it a while. I wonder if they get spasm or something, like how you rubbed it away and they can walk it off sometimes. Dunno what the heck these episodes are!

Truly she is an all around actress, can play any part so well.
Spare me from dogs who are too smart for their own good. So, molly wants to play toss her kibble. So I throw a piece, she pounces, attacks, eats it. But one piece she pounced, threw it in air and it went down the floor vent. I distracted her with another piece, but then she went back to the vent and was barking at it for me to go get the piece she lost. Finally I got two pieces from her bowl, tossed her one, then went to the vent cover, took it off and she came over and watched me very carefully, and I put my hand down the vet and came back up with tada a piece of her food. Tossed it to her, put the cover back on. No way was that the original piece but she seems okay that I retrieve something for her. Mighty hunter here you know!

Hmm, don't think we got those storms. Molly slept through the night, I did too, and even though it was raining outside this morning, it didn't look like I'd missed a storm. I really think molly would have woke us up if it was like that though.
I did have a rather rough night, nightmares or bad dreams, something. Whatever it was, it's not good to be too close to me when they occur. (which isn't often) as I tend to take out whatever is near while doing battle. Hubs got it last night poor guy. I didn't see a black eye even though he swore I was all over the place and got him in the eye at one point. I have Epic dreams? Very detailed and like a full blown book. Seems I'm active during them too. oops. No wonder molly doesn't sleep right beside me. LOL She's smart. hahha
I do have to find out if the IMS still wants UPC number 3. She might, since the first was high, then this one so low. Only thing I changed was the food, to the lower fat content. interesting eh.

We're a-okay here. Weather has been cooler here too, perfect walking weather.
I notice that molly has more trouble with that rear leg that has the luxating patella. She just seems to wobble on it, so I try to give her support when she is on grass via her harness. It's only on the grassy areas, as that isn't even or hard surface. On the sidewalk she is fine. She is not adverse to letting you know she needs to rest it either. She'll just stop and sit. I massage and we go on. I think next winter is going to be pretty rough though with this leg. Anticipation eh. :)
Looking forward to a warmer, sunny weekend. More yard work. We're moving into the back yard now and my idea that I just want to clean it up since we lost so much stuff anyhow, so a nice clean look should be good to have.
We've opted for a date night to the movies on Saturday. We're going to try out the new (well new to us anyway, since we haven't used it before) VIP movie experience. Big seating, like as in recliners, menus, drinks and food brought to your seats by servers, including wine, etc. Not something I'd probably do often, but it sounds like a fun thing to try.
We finally got our hotel in Newfoundland booked. Boy, don't try to go there around Canada Day, it's impossible to get a room in a decent place it seems. I swear I must have found one of the last ones inside the city. You can always get a place out of town by the airport, but who wants to do that for getaway.
http://www.winterholme.com/Default.aspx so this is what I found and even then we cut the trip a day short as they only had availability for certain days.
On to booking some whale watching excursions and checking the iceberg locater to see how fast those bergs are melting and how far north we might have to go to find one. I've never seen an iceberg before and seeing one from the shore would be good.
We don't go for another couple weeks, but I'm in prep mode.
hugs all, have a fab weekend!

Way fun, loving the idea of a VIP section at the movies!! I would have to careful I didn't doze off in my comfy chair :D
Has Molly's leg been xrayed Sharlene, can't remember off hand?? Does she run ok on it?
Please pack us all in your bags when you head away won't you, I would love to go whale watching. I have seen a few off our beach over the years, mainly orca and more commonly dolphins too never the real big whales though, except one that washed up dead on the beach. Flynn was very interested in that, he looked like he was going to take a bite before I dragged him away . Our local Maori always take the jaw bone of the whale and bury it for cultural reasons. We get the odd seal too, just last week one bit an elderly gent on his leg when he got a bit too close, he needed surgery but that was not on our beach though :eek: I remember Dad walking Flynn years ago came across one and Flynn was getting a bit too close to it for Dad's liking!
molly muffin
06-06-2014, 09:40 PM
It was the IMS or the Neuro specialist who discovered the leg problem on the left side, the right side my vet found and yes it was xrayed, the joint groove isn't cut deep enough, it's a birth defect. So, since they xrayed and ultrasound a few things that day I'd think they would have done the leg when they found the problem or been very sure of what it was. They said grade 2, no need for surgery unless it goes to a grade 3.
She runs okay on it because she has Always run like a rabbit, both back legs together, but she walks like well, a dog. hahaha.
Yea, it turns out a bit to the side when it gets wonky on her. darnest thing.
No way, falling asleep is what I do at home during the movie. I'd have to be awfully bored to fall asleep at the movies. yikes. I can see where that might be a problem is those seats are Too comfy though. Still this is a sci-fi thriller, Edge of Tomorrow I think it's called. I'm not a super Tom Cruise fan, but I LOVE Emily Blunt. This is her first action movie I think and it's opening weekend, so we're going to give it a go. We need a date night for sure. Work has been so awful for hubs lately, that if he wanted the moon, I'd find a way to give it to him.
I love whale watching. As long as it is safe for the whales. The zodiac was way close to them, but with engines cut, the came to us, wild. Those were minke whales, but this area if a huge migration area, so humpbacks, which are HUGE.
I love the orca too, saw the out in the straits off Victoria BC.
Eeek Patti, you're life is way too stressful. I'd have had a heart attack by now trying to do all you do and the worries you have.
hugs all, have a good weekend! Do one thing for yourself and something with your furbaby this weekend. It will make the world seem so much better.

Pleased to hear you've got your trip booked. We saw a couple of whales from the ferry at Tadoussac, plus Sluice the whale who swam into the generating station at Annapolis Royal back in 2004 (just happened to be driving through en route to Digby and saw crowds of people), but OH has always had bad luck on proper whale watching trips so now refuses to go!
Just out of interest, when you say Molly runs like a rabbit what do you mean - I've been concerned about the way Henry runs since we got him as it's very different to the way I remember Hamish running - of course every time I try to video it he runs normally! but basically both back legs go out together and are angled outwards (I know, that description is dreadful) - it reminds me of a rabbit.

Molly's legs are together and both straight back. She has always run this way, since I've had her at 11 months. She just flies and man can she dig in and pull you. I swear she needs a minature sled attached to her sometimes.
Lyme has been very bad, so hope the tick is negative.
Oh yes in Tadoussac the whales are right there. There was one little cabin left on the beach, and our friends owned it, so we'd have morning coffee and watch the beluga whales in the bay, but definitely can see them on the ferry crossing if it is the right time of day. We haven't been back in years, I imagine they still have that cottage though. They would rent it out when they weren't using it.
You'll have to get Henry back on track with the revolution. When can you safely give it to him?

Yay for the excellent news on Molly's upc!! So happy to see those very good results! Vacay plans sound really nice and the hotel looks really beautiful!
Can you believe that Bergamasca on The Dogist...Lola??? I've seen her around. I have to say I am not a fan of that matted fur dreds...yuck they look like they just pick up all the dust and dirt that they get near, but they also seem sweet and gentle. Herders...guess they look like the sheep and maybe the sheep like that! :D
Did you see Edge of Tomorrow yet? I am the same as you...love Emily Blunt (love her husband too) but not a fan of Tom Cruise. The movie looks good and I believe got favorable reviews. We'll probably see it over the summer. First on my list is "Chef" which I hear is great, especially if you like food!! :D Haha...right up my alley! :p

Sharlene:
Yes Toby sleeps in my room in a crate, or Tipper would be into it with him. The cats sleep in the family room or the cat room when it is real warm. My rescue cat Lucky knows not to come in my room, and when gates are closed it means Tipper is behind them so he never ventures past the gate as he is scared to death of Tipper. She just has to make a mean look at him and he cries. I noticed Tipper hopping like a bunny when she goes down the steps after that ACL tear. She does not do it when anywhere else though. The Laser therapist told me that they point their feet out etc. to compensate when that patella acts up. She told me to make Tipper walk in circles and figure 8's as that strengthens it. Also she said push he back and forth in front of you when she is standing still, just gently. It is not real bad for them to tolerate as she said it goes back in usually right away, and is not something that goes on long. I think Tipper adapted to it years ago. From all her Jack Russell jumps I think made hers start to act up and go out on her. I had asked two Dr.'s about it too as I did not want her to be in pain, and they said let it alone, it doesn't happen that often and is not chronic pain. I hope you and Molly have a good weekend and enjoy this nice weather. Blessings

Hay Sharlene
I hope you saw your movie and enjoyed the VIP section. I love reading about you and hubs time together, it sounds like you have a real lovely relationship warms my heart to read it :)
I wouldn't worry too much about the leg, woody had a patella issue and it would pop out every so often but the stubborn git would just lift his leg and then quickly force his leg to the ground thus popping it back in, my vet showed me how to pop it back in and I only needed to do it once.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend :D
Ok Big Question-
Are you happy with Revolution for Molly? It takes care of fleas, ticks and heartworm issues with minimal side effects?
What dose do you give - I think Koko is about 20 pounds.
Have fun on date night. Fill us all in on the movie and VIP seats

Hey Addy, of course I am not Sharlene :), but since you are asking about Revolution, I thought I would share a link I found yesterday that lists and compares the treatment offered by both Revolution and also Frontline. Revolution looks to be very comprehensive in some ways, but doesn't offer as broad a coverage for ticks -- it only kills American dog ticks. So if you are worried about Lyme, it does not help because it doesn't kill deer ticks. Frontline kills four types of ticks, but doesn't cover heartworm, mites, mange, etc. They both cover fleas. Anyway, here's the link in case you are interested.

Thanks Marianne,
Then that wont work because we have deer ticks too. What concerns me is the Heartguard makes Koko vomit without fail. I dont know what else I could use for heartworm.

I am happy with the Revolution. Molly has never had a reaction to it, she's never had a tick or a flea either, in her 10 years with us. Of course, being in the city, we don't seem to have deer ticks, or not that molly would maybe come in contact with?
We use the brown box one, (has the JRT on the front picture, for dogs 5.1 - 10kg.
I liked the movie, Emily Blunt did a good job as an action character. I feel like Tom Cruise plays the same character when he plays action characters. He's got it down pretty good.
Okay, so very nice to have those big comfy seats. If you get the ones at the very front, they recline too. Ours didn't recline, but it wasn't missed. Plenty of room to stretch your legs. I had a girly drink instead of wine, strawberry, banana, with vodka. Only thing missing was the umbrella. There is a menu at your seat when you sit down and someone comes by to take your order, anything from drinks, to popcorn, hotdogs, or hamburgers, pineapple upside down cake was even on the menu. They even had valet parking. (we didn't use it, but it was there!)
We enjoyed it. I don't know if we'd go all the time, but it was fun as a treat to do. There is another theater type that you can reserve your seats in too and the seating is nice. Not as nice as this but that is the one we often will go to. It is nice to not have your back killing you after sitting in one spot for a few hours with no getting up and down.
It's funny. I grew up with sport, watching them on tv, etc, horse racing, car racing, american football, but hubby is just not into watching a lot of sports on tv. We have a basketball team, a baseball team, hockey, canadian football teams all in the city here and he will go to the games live and love it. (the Gray Cup is of course a whole different thing and that he'll watch) or if our neighbor has him down for a guys night and to watch a game, then he'll go but I think just for the comradarie. (my neighbor LOVES sports, period, his son is a baseball player and playing for Louisiana State currently, and he's played the Blue Jays AA team, or whatever that is. So, we do support him. :) Anyway, wow, way to get off track here. So, he was asking me why I was being all frantic about getting the results of the Belmont, checking before we went in and as soon as the show was over. I'm like, well it is the triple crown, how can you NOT! LOL He is probably grateful I don't make him watch auto racing every sunday any more too. :)
So this knee thing seems to be a lot more common than I thought it was. She just seems so wobbly on grass or uneven surfaces. I guess that is normal too. Okay, so I won't freak as much over that then.
Well I just had a wave of sleepy come over me, so bed time for me gang.

So glad you had a good time, it sounds wonderful for a treat to do that. It is already heating up here today and I am going to be watching the weather and the sky. Tipper has been pretty calm for a few days, so I don't want her getting started up today. She is still getting up as I fall asleep and going in the closet. I have not heard any congestion when she lays down now, but have not been able to observe her a lot while sleeping either. Does Molly do ok when you go out and leave her? Is she really clingy when you get home? Tipper was Miss independent don't help me with anything I do it all myself girl, until this past year when she declined. Now she does not want me leaving her and needs to be in the same room all the time. Blessings

Oooh - that sounds like a fun time. Do they serve throughout the film?
Hamish had the knee thing too - it didn't happen very often but when it did he would lift his leg and OH was great at massaging it back into place (I was lousy!).
I hate watching sport on TV - I'd rather be doing than watching (although I do most sports very badly ;) ). Only exception was Formula 1 when Schumacher was racing - we went to the US GP once and I decided it was better on TV because you missed so much from the stands.

They take orders until the trailers come on but not during the movie. It is enough though.
True, car racing like formula, indy, anything road course is better on tv. I like going to live sport events too. Just something about getting caught up in the high spirits of winning and losing.
I just didn't have a clue so many dogs have these luxating knees.

You do more cool stuff and have more fun in one weekend, than I do all year. I think I shall live vicariously through you from now on. That means I get your hubby too. There's not many like him around! Be sure to clue him in on our arrangement! ;):D
So sad about Daisy Mae. Needed to lighten things up a bit. It's okay to throw your hubby under the bus for the cause. :D

True, in the spirit of needing to raise spirits, husbands are free game. (and we surely do all need that tonight) Be warned though, he loves nothing more than to find a series on netflex and watch every season nonstop.
We have a few good ones on here I must say (Other Halves). I'm always thrilled at the gentle, kind loving souls that go along with some of our doggie families.
Next weekend, I believe is country western, dinner/dance. I do not know know what to wear! Pretty sure I don't have anything in the closet to fit That one. Unless I can just throw on a pair a jeans? I am taking Friday off though so maybe I'll be able to find something. Think the dollar store might have some of those kid cowboy hats?

OH I think jeans will be just fine, with a pair of boots, a big belt with a metal clasp. Plaid shirt and a hat for sure! Comfy too!! Do you and hubs like to dance?? Line dancing?? Be a fun night! :D:D Get hubs a whip and spurs, a leather vest like the rodeo!!
I love most sports too, except not car racing!!! I think it stems back to when we were kids and went to the local speedway and the car whizzing by kicked up stones and dirt and I did not like that  put me off ever since!
I never knew about all these knee issues either, sounds painful putting it back in :eek: but sounds like many manage just fine as I am sure Molly will.
Hope work goes OK today Sharlene, Mondays blech... at least mine is done, only 3 more days as I have to travel Friday for the meeting in Tauranga so kinda short week! xxx

Nothing more country than jeans and boots and a cowgirl hat. Sounds like a lot of fun. I think I'll pick that weekend to trade with you!!! Is Addy wanting just heart worm protection or does she need flea stuff for KoKo also? I do not use any flea stuff on Tipper since she got Cushings. She has too many things going in her system now. I do however give her heartworm protection. She has never gotten a flea in 2 years now. I only walk her on the road and in short grass. I know they sell wipes to keep fleas off, but they have a strong smell and not sure she would want that in the house. They are from Vetri Science. Tipper lumps seem to have just gone into overdrive the last few months growing. Do you think the Trilostane could affect their growth?? Hope you get thru the Monday blahs at work. Blessings

Patti I haven't seen anything that says that trilostane would effect the growth of lympoma's one way or another.
Maybe Glynda or someone would have more knowledge about that
I'm sorry that they are growing, I think they just tend to do that and go through almost spurts from the feel of them.
hmm, yee haawww peeps. I think I am suppose to wear a skirt for the dance, but I need to check with some others that are going.
I like line dancing, but haven't done it since the 80's, maybe some early 90's. Hubs loves to dance, but not line dance. He said that isn't his thing. We'll see about that because in all honesty the man loves to dance, period and I can't see him sitting at a table if there is a song on that is moving. (although he's more a rocker than an CW dude). :) (or so he says) hahaha
Yea, I'm quite reassured by the knee issues that I've found out about on the forum here and not going to keep worrying so much. I know she is wobbly on it on uneven ground and will just have to make allowances for that and go on. :)
You just realize that there are so many thing that can become an issue if you don't pay attention, so trying to curtail those possiblities, at least limit them.

I never realised the knee issues were so common, although the vet didn't seem overly concerned when she diagnosed it, and just showed us what to do if it happened. It also didn't seem to bother Hamish - he would happily do a 4 or 5 mile walk and just stop if the problem arose and once resolved continue along as if nothing had happened.
I think you'll be fine as long as you have the cowboy boots - they look good with anything.
I'm currently spending the evening staring out of the window - at lunchtime a car sat outside the house for around 15 mins, then returned at 3pm then again at 4pm and after sitting on the road for 15 mins backed onto our drive and sat there for 5-10 mins. I decided to go out and ask what they were doing but as soon as they saw me approaching they sped off the drive (without stopping to see if there were any cars on the road) then ignored the Stop sign at the junction. I called the police as OH told me they were also outside at 7am this morning!!! Fortunately I got the license plate and could describe the car reasonably well, but it's a bit worrying as I have no idea what they could be up to. The police were really nice and spent around an hour checking the local area, and have said to call immediately if it appears again. At least Henry has a bark that's way bigger than him ;)
molly muffin
06-09-2014, 09:09 PM
OMG, that is scary! What on earth could they be up to. Wouldn't thieves be a bit more circumspect about their activities? The driving off, without checking for cars and running stop sign doesn't signify anything good in my book. I'm glad you called the police. Where they going to run the license plates and track down driver? I hope so. Nip this stuff in the bud, whatever it may be.
Don't mess around okay. If you even suspect anything call the police. (speed dial?) make sure the doors and window are locked and you have something by the bed, like a baseball bat or whatever works. I am counting on Henry here!
That is a bit of a problem since I don't own any cowboy boots. :( I use to, but not in a long time. I think Hubs does though! go figure.

Best reason I can think of for a shopping trip ;)
OH and I both have some cowboy boots courtesy of a visit to Wall Drug!!
The police didn't say what they would do about the license plate but they were watching the house when OH came home. It's just such strange behaviour - OH's current theory is that it's a spurned lover spying on the people opposite us! I think he's trying to get me to worry less.....

I am fairly sure it was a woman, maybe 30s or 40s, however I'm still trying to work out if the passenger window (and therefore there was more than one person) was open when it was on our drive.
I took Henry round the drive when the car was there at lunchtime, because I assumed it was just someone on their cellphone. I keep telling myself that if they intended to do anything to me they would have done it then, but I'm still rather worried.

I hadn't thought of the camera - good idea, although I'm not sure I'd be able to get a good picture if they drive off as quickly as they did today, but it might deter them from coming back. I'm hoping I already scared them off, by going out today, although I would prefer to get something from the police which guarantees they won't be back.
I don't think I've seen the car around but it was just a small white SUV so nothing particularly distinctive / noticeable, apart from the fact that it was very clean and shiny.
The interesting thing is that I put a car on the drive when they were there at lunchtime, and it was still there when they backed up on to our drive, so they should have worked out that I was in the house.....

Thank you - it does help, however it's the running the stop sign that makes me think it's more likely to be something illegal.... unless their target arrived home at that point, but the police searched the area within 15 minutes of them driving off, and there was no sign of them. Also that would mean there was only 1 house that they could have been watching (the people living there only moved in last November and I don't know anything about them).
Maybe it's a private detective as one of our neighbours (who I try to avoid!) keeps telling me that a lot of husbands in the area are playing away, although I would not expect them to park on our drive when they knew I was home, as that really draws attention to them. Hmmm - maybe a very poor detective ;)
As you can tell, I have a very vivid imagination ;) ;)

06-09-2014, 11:32 PM
LOL Very bad indeed. I don't know, but if your house is the one of interest, then seems weird that they would pull in your drive with the car there. Which makes me think, maybe another house. hmmm, never know with new neighbors. Never know with old one sometimes either.
I swear this is the truth, I lived in Washington state for a few years, nice neighborhood, small town, knew my neighbors, now I didn't hang out with my next door neighbor, but we said, hello, talked across the fence, etc. So, I moved away after 3 years, and one of my other neighbors calls me maybe 6 - 10 months later, and said, you'll never believe it, they had a meth lab in the garage of your next door neighbor. (she lived across the street). I wouldn't have ever suspected, but then I tend to Usually think of the best of people. Police raided it, thank god, that could have blown up at any point, and there were young kids there too. So, you just can't tell sometimes.

Wow - my parents always used to say you never know what goes on behind closed doors!
One of their neighbours worked in a furniture store and used to 'borrow' furniture most weekends (we're talking full dining sets, armchairs, lamps, etc.) - they had a long path from the driveway to the house and we used to see them carrying the furniture in / out. Several years later my Dad got to know the people who owned the furniture store chain and they mentioned they had a few problems with that particular store, but he guessed they had no idea of the true extent of the 'borrowing'.
Well the mystery deepens as I can't think of any reason why we'd be of interest - just a very boring middle aged couple with more than the average number of cars and a super cute puppy dog, so it must be one of the neighbours. If so I don't suppose we'll hear anything from the police, but my imagination might be getting some exercise :D

A mystery is always intriguing as long as it doesn't involve ourselves. :)
It doesn't hurt to keep a look out though and if they show up, maybe you can get a picture from the window. Without having to go outside. Not sure that I'd want them to see you Take the picture since there is no way to know what they are up to.

I have the camera ready just in case they show up tomorrow - if they're on the road I'll be able to get the vehicle from the house, however if they are as close to our garages as they were today I'll have to wait for them to start driving off before I can get the license plate! Our drive is almost 3 car lengths long and they were parked around 1/2 a car length from the garage door - the police were rather surprised when I showed them how close to the house the car had been.
Henry has been out on the patio (at the back) barking at animals in the night, but I haven't stopped him as quickly as I usually would because I want them to think we have lots of big dogs!

The actor is currently playing at the theater here in Toronto in a murder mystery involving the vatican. I'd love to go see it. He was such a hoot as Poirot.
I loved the P.D. James series of mysteries The books and the shows were all good. Frost is wonderful too and Morse. When we lived in the US we used to get a few Canadian channels, and one showed the same episode of Frost (Dead Male One) EVERY week - we used to get really excited that it might be a different one!
This is just so sad http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/06/10/dave-ross-dog-danny-funeral-moncton-photos_n_5480803.html

Oh that is funny about the same show every week! You'd think they'd change it up a bit. My sister is in the states and she loves PBS because of it's mystery theater nights.
That is incredibly sad. I hope Danny retires, but working police dogs like to work, so maybe working with some other handlers will help him too? He was whimpering during the funeral. I think that is one of the main things that broke so many peoples hearts.

We had a show here with a JRT named Wishbone, it was a cute show. Well Tipper and Toby already walked and it is dark out it looks like 9 at nite. I found the instructions from the cardiologist for Tipper's dental. It says fluids must be limites less than 1/2 surgical maintenance, no barbituates and alpha 2 antagonists. Respiration must be closely monitored at all times. So because she has the heart murmur too much fluid could cause congestive heart failure. I just wonder what that is going to do to her liver though?? Without xrta fluids to cleanse it?? Hope you do not get todays storm. Places are already flooding in Pennsylvania. Where I used to live two streets over a black bear was running loose thru yards. I could just see Tipper meeting a bear! The fur would fly as she would go after it I know. Yikes, flooding doesn't sound good. We didn't get that much here, but we did get the thunder and lightening Molly was stressed this time and I ended up laying on the floor with her at 1am. No wonder I am sore and sleepy today. At least my headache is gone, so that is good. That wasn't good.
Susan, he dance is Saturday night. Should be fun.

Oooh - I'd forgotten about Inspector Lynley. I love that and have the box set of it too.
I've never watched Bergerac - think I need to give it a try. How do you like the new Barnaby compared to John Nettles? I think Sykes is now the star ;)
I also have the box set of Murder in Surburbia - have you seen that?[/QUOTE]
i have never heared about murder in suburbia. is this a british detective too?
i haven't watched the new barnaby episodes yet. but i will.
and i found a box set of mc callum in my dvd crate.
it was a short series, but fun to watch.
we will have to plan a british detective night soon, a forum meeting, ha, ha!

Well last nite was not too bad just some rain. No thunder thank goodness. It seems Tipper has left the nest and has become a closet sleeping dog. Last nite when I went in to check her, she looked up at me like get out of my closet and leave me alone! Have you found something to wear to the dance?? I bet it will be lots of fun! When do you go to the whale watching?? Hope Molly is still doing well, as that takes a load off your mind right there. Blessings

Murder in Surburbia is about two female detectives and is quite tongue in cheek / amusing. Oh - a british detective night would be fun. Kind of like a book club...
Sorry to hear about your night on the floor Sharlene. I hope that Molly is doing well today. Any update on your outfit for the dance tomorrow?
p.s. still no further sightings of the stalker so hoping it wasn't anything to worry about (although I'm still looking a small white SUVs suspiciously, and re-assessing the neighbours ;) )

Hahahaha, MC, you crack me up. I'd be watching and assessing too, though. Can't help it if you have mystery in your blood and sounds like more than a few of us around here do.
Think i'm going with a white long skirt and a jean shirt, with a white tank under it. Not sure on the shoes, but I should find something with as many as I have in my closet. We're going to decide for sure on outfits tomorrow.
I had today off, as I had a few appointments today. Then came home worked on my weekly report and started on a big project for work. That kept me busy till 9:30pm and I'm not even a quarter of the way into it. It's going to be mostly after hour extra work so, might be a bit of a ghost around the forum for a bit. I'll try though.
molly is doing okay. Life continues moving along. I wanted to make the taco salad tonight, but timing didn't work out for me to get anything done.
Tomorrow is that dance, and sunday is a bbq, so will be a busy weekend and I might try to get some more work done.

Hi Sharlene:
I guess the dance is this weekend? Hope you found an outfit. WE had no storm last nite thank goodness. Tipper fell asleep on the bed. She woke up, looked around and realized she was sleeping on the bed. She immediately went to the closet. Cool here this morning, and the way Tipper likes it. My neighbor had a colonoscopy at which point they found a bad vein and repaired it. He is also anemic, and will have some tests this morning before coming home this afternoon. His daughter is to come for fathers day to visit him. Hope you have this nice cool weather too, Molly will like that. Blessings

yes the dance is tonight. Molly loved it this morning when my hubby and I were two stepping around the living room, hallway, through the kitchen, dining room and back to the living room. She thought that was great fun. :)
Hubs announced this morning that he has found a western apparel store, so we'll be going later, to pick me up some boots, a western shirt that I can wear with jeans and I haven't decided on a hat yet or not, but hubs said he wants one, so maybe. Then I'll accessorize with my turquoise jewelery. I still have some left over from my days in New Mexico and my brother who use to be a dealer for western jewelery. He lived in New Mexico most of his life. Well, when he was older anyhow. So I'll figure it all out this afternoon. It should be fun and you know, we love fun.

I have a lot of turquois jewelry from New Mexico etc. I have a huge Squash Blossom Necklace, unlike the ones they sell today that are cheaper. My stuff must be 30 years old. Who knows could have bought some from your brother!! I should sell it as I have no where here to wear it to. A friend of mine bought me a Stetson Cowgirl hat in a few years ago. It is black and beautifully made. Your hubby sounds like he is really getting into this even if it isn't his kind of dancing. I bet Molly wondered what the heck are my parents doing when you were steppin it. It is so nice here. My neighbor just went to get the elderly man from the hospital, hope all goes well. The dogs are liking this weather. Blessings

Whoo, pooped cowgirl. I am not sure we left the dance floor except for dinner. Lots of fun.
Hahaha Trish! A whip would have been funny.
I remember once, my stepdaughter came home from a date, the window blinds were open, and we had some friends over and were all in the living room dancing and singing "I think I'm turning Japanese I really think so" She was mortified.
He also sings "fly me to the moon" to me periodically. Yea, he's a keeper. Tasha, my golden, Loved to Dance with us. Molly will only be interested for a bit, but Tasha could go for a long time.
Well I want to get through the forum posts before going to bed, then another big day tomorrow, bbq and swim party for dads day.

Sounds a fun night!! Got your exercise in for the week by the sounds of it!! Are you doing the pool party tomorrow?? Fingers crossed for a sunny day! :)
Hi Sharlene,
Okay, I'm pooped just reading about your evening, LOL! You guys have more fun than anyone I know! Glad you and hubs had a great time. Did you end up getting cowboy boots for your outfit?
Wishing a Happy Father's Day to your husband. Hope you guys have fun at your pool party tomorrow and the weather cooperates.

Yes, hubs took me shopping and bought me some canadian cowboy boots. He said they will last me a lifetime. Then he added in a leather vest and a hat, so he definitely had me styling. Now we are talking about going out to calgary for the calgary stampede at some point. Probably not this year but maybe in a couple.
Yes we are having the pool party and bbq here. It is suppose to be decent weather but you never know. The nice thing is our back yard faces south and with the high fence, it is a micro climate back there usually. Always warmer than the north facing front yard.

OMG, I love the Calgary Stampede!! They televise it here and I pretty much watch it every year. That would be awesome if you get to go, it looks like tons of fun. Yep, those boots probably will last you a lifetime Sharlene. I have a pair of Justin Ropers that I've had for probably 15 or 20 years and they're still in great shape.
Hugs,

Hope your BBQ was a hit yesterday. Now reality sets in and it's back to work!!. How did Molly do for the BBQ does she mingle or stay in the house? We are looking at storms today again, so I have to be ready for Tipper's meds at anytime. Tipper had a good weekend with no storms so that was good for her. She continues to sleep in the closet though. Do you think because they want Tipper's fluids limited during her surgery it is going to cause liver issues? Blessings

Well, the stalker has returned  Hubby is fairly sure he saw it early this morning, then it drove up / down the street a few times during the morning before returning to it's favourite spot outside our house around 12:30. I got some pics and called the police who said they'd send a car. Just after I spoke to them Hubby arrived home and as soon as I saw him turn into the street they drove off!! He said it was a well dressed middle aged woman.... so the police said it could be a private detective - if so, they're not very good given how noticeable they are making themselves!!
The police haven't mentioned running the license plate, but I'm wondering if they have and that's the reason they mention the detective, although if they had spoken to car owner / driver I'm surprised they would return here

Molly did fine with the bbq since it's all family and she knows them. She mingles on her terms, like while cooking and eating she was right there helping out. :) :) She also greeted everyone and had a good time and then she was done and went off to find a good spot for a nap.
The family just mentioned having a kid pool party when our grandson is here for Labor Day, and I think I will put molly in the kennel if that is a go, as a bunch of kids running around messing with her would not be a good situation. She is fine just with our grandson but I don't think a bunch would work out too well. (doggy day care is probable for that situation).
Oh wow the stalker is back. Didn't you say it could only be one other house that a detective would be checking out? They obviously know OH's car if they took off as soon as they saw him. hmmm... the mystery continues. I guess they think there is something on the street that they are interested in, but man, trying to figure it out is tough!!
I'm definitely pooped today. Long day at work after a busy weekend. I think we need a vacation! hahaha :) soon, very soon. :)

Doggy day care definitely sounds like the best plan for Molly if you have a kids party.
Well, the stalker returned around 30 minutes after OH went back to work, but only for a few minutes then they drove off and I haven't seen them since. However I've worked out that they can actually see two of our neighbours from their vantage point on the road, but only one of those from our drive (which may be a red herring)
I've convinced myself it's probably a private detective, which means they shouldn't pose a threat to us so I'll probably never know the reason....
Oh, and I did tell OH that I wasn't having him followed ;):D

I think someone in this neighborhood is having a spouse watched. I think that is a good idea for Molly with many children coming it could be a bad time for her. Hope you are getting back into the work week ok. I remember those days of absolutely hating Mondays. Blessings

I just saw the weatherman show how you guys are sending us some storms across the lake!!! Now what's up with that??? Tipper said she wants cool with no disturbances!! It is so hot and humid. Did you see that double tornado in Nebraska?? Hope this passes us by for Tippers sake. I wonder what your Molly does when it storms and you are at work? Tipper would have a hole dug thru the floor all the way to China! Blessings

I did see they had bad storms in Nebraska which made me worry for our Nebraskans on the forum of course. Tina I think is there. Isn't Kim also? not positive.
Yea, we have really dark skies, very warm out, big winds. Occasionally we have had a spurt of rain that lasts minutes at most. Molly is chilling and doesn't seem bothered so that is good.
I'm working on a big project this week for work, so have been burning the candle at both ends it seems and getting very little sleep. If I get silly I'm going to blame it on that.
Still finding time to play with molly though. : :)
hmm, maybe a spouse or who knows what, maybe insurance claim even.

What a note, storms, hail as big as golf balls, wind, lightening, you name it we had it. I was on the front porch watching when the tornado came, I could see where it was as I was telling my neighbor the sky was all green. We had a struggle getting to the vets today. The roads were like lakes and it was storming like crazy. What a ride, the vet got to see what Tipper gets like! We talked over her operation. Hope you and Molly did not have this weather. Sounds like you
are working your brains out at work again! Tipper had a hard morning and she is napping in the cool air. Blessings
