Sharlene:
I completely understand about the work situation. I hope Molly like her new ramp, I am sure her window seat is her favorite place. The couple taking Grace went out and bought her steps to get up to the picture window in their living room to see out. They want her to sleep in bed with them! They sound lovely, but my heart is still broken saying goodbye to her. She and I understood one another very well. Blessings

And looks like negotiations are back on at work.

Oh that is funny Kathy. :) :) I always think it says, look at me, I'm cute, give me whatever I want: chicken please. :) hahahaha

She is doing good by the way. She loves being in her window seat (when she Wants of course) and the other day, she ran up and jumped on the couch before we could stop and then looked please as punch with herself, while she waited for hubby to sit down so she could get her special treat time with him. We have been able to stop her for the rest of the time with pillow blocks, but not sure how long that is going to last as she tried to do a jump up and over the pillow today and hubs caught her before she could get air borne. She also tries to jump off if she wants down, so we have to be quick and catch her.

This forced non jumping I think is really starting to aggravate her. She also wants to jump for her glucosomine treat, and I have to turn and get it with my back to her so she can't see, or she does the jumping thing before I can stop her.

She is a bit concerned that I seem to be crying at the computer all the time lately and comes over and lays on my feet if I am at the desktop computer. Normally she'll lay behind the chair on her rug. So, this is just the last few days and if I'm not crying, then she'll be okay and go to her rug. She really is a sweetheart.

AWW sharlene, we are all crying while reading posts these days. When family members are sad, we are all sad. :o:(

No wonder negotiations are back on. There is no doubt that you were wonderful at your job. You have your priorities straight. That's what's most important. I am all for you getting a promotion, as long as it doesn't take you away from us. Definitely selfish. :D they can only have you part of the time. I am willing to share. lol

I'm glad to hear that Molly is doing so well. It is a funny how we read the avatar picture differently. lol xxxxx

Our dogs are so attuned to our emotions aren't they? I have noticed Trixie especially reacts when I'm sad, comes over and gets close up to my face..they show real empathy in their own way. How sweet that Molly comes over to comfort you, she knows when it's needed.
Glad she's doing better and up enjoying her spot on the window seat. I am trying not to let Trixie jump off our bed in the morning. It's kind of high up and I just don't want any trouble with her knees or back, but I have to be quick if I see her near the edge. She does tend to hesitate for a few seconds as it is a high jump for her so I can usually get to her before she goes. Just can't take another thing to worry about with her. I found what looks to be a wart on her back leg, kind of on top the paw, so now that's got me checking out google images and worrying. It doesn't seem to bother her at all when I touch it..she's not licking or trying to get at it. Guess we will have to get it checked out. It feels like it's always something!
Hope you get the promotion which I'm sure you deserve...that is if you want it!! Good Luck with the negotiations.

Wow they still sound like they really want you for that job Sharlene, hopefully the come up with a convincing package or benefits and salary! Good Luck with that! You are in a good position to bargain!

Your Molly is such a sweetie coming over and comforting you like that, Flynn is not so good like that, if I am upset he will go in the other room... MEN! lol I like that she sounds she is getting her mojo back with the back pain, its a hard time trying to prevent the jumps... they are so darn fast sometimes!

Our babies can often see so deeply inside us and know that a simple reminder of their presence can bring us such comfort. A kiss, a nose touch, laying the head on our feet, that "look" in their eyes can lift us up and give us hope again. Of all the people on this planet, how blessed are we to have such companions at our side!

Hi Sharlene:
We got about an inch of new snow last note. It is never ending. We are to go down to 3 degrees tomorrow. This has been a really hard winter for the dogs, especially the Cush dogs. I went in my office this morning, was not a good idea. Grace really made a mark on my heart. I just close my eyes and imagine that sweet little face looking up at me and talking her kitty talk. Tipper is wound up this morning and that is nor good as we have to go for blood pressure etc at 9:00. I am hoping she settles down by then, I do not want a false blood pressure reading. Hope Molly is doing well, and getting around better after her laser therapy. It will be 2 months today that Tipper hurt her leg, and she is doing
Pretty well on it. The roads here ate icy so we will have to take our time. Blessings

That horrible sub zero stuff is here again. Did you see the other snow storm coming? Tipper is fed up with this winter. I am sick of not being able to walk her. I guess mother nature rules. How is Molly doing going out in this? I finally got Tipper's urine to take to the vet yesterday. He said it had some crystals in it and it could be because I refrigerated it. This has happened before. So the next test he wants me to just leave it sit out and no refrigeration. He said no tranquilizers for Tipper as I told him spring is coming and I need to do something. I am going to have to research it and see what else I can come up with. Blessings

No snow storm here, just bitterly cold. Some other areas (up by Judi) got some bad snow squalls today, white out conditions and major problems on the highways. We're just bitterly cold. -35C wind chills tonight, with -22C temps. so, not a good night to be out and about, or you'll freeze your tushie off.

Molly does okay, as long as we aren't on any ice. Our sidewalks are mostly clear, worst areas area the earlier thaw/freeze we got, so she can walk, but it's so cold, she isn't interested in staying out long and we don't take very long walks in this kind of cold. Roads are clear too so that is good.

She is really enjoying having access to her window seat again. She still isn't allowed to furniture jump though. One more week and then we'll reevaluate that option. Same with whether she can do the stairs up or down.

All in all, we are doing okay here. :)

That crazy super cold you have is blowing here tonight, the wind is howling out there and temps dropping fast! Brrr...there won't be any long walks tomorrow morning with the sub zero wind chills. We're possibly getting another big snow Sunday into Monday..here we go again!!
I have such a nice image in my head of Molly sitting and enjoying her view from the window seat. Trixie would love a spot like that!! I've always wanted to put one in my dining room..maybe someday soon.

Awww, I'll have to take a picture, it's her favorite spot and often we'll come up the door singing, who is that doggie in the window, woof, woof. Everyone that knows her looks to see if she is in the window and because she wasn't for awhile there, I'd have people asking if molly was okay, they hadn't seen her in the window. :)

When we put that in, I thought, ahh, perfect place for some plants. Yea, right. That didn't even last the amount of time it took the tools to be put away, molly was there, laying down and claimed it as hers. LOL Well worth it. If you do one, make sure it isn't too high, so they can jump up and down easily. Ours is 13 inches off the floor.

Another request for a picture of Miss Molly on her window seat please.

We're looking forward to the pic.

Well we ended up doing 5 miles thanks to hubby losing one of his ice spikes meaning we had to retrace our steps
Henry has been fast asleep since we got home, and was just about interested in his dinner.

My knee problems are down to inherited arthritis which probably means I shouldn't skate, but unfortunately I'm a terrier owner (and personality) so I do it anyway then suffer the consequences occasionally.

We came out of the theater last night and there was a lot of snow on the ground and it continued into the wee hours of the morning. Last night Molly had a grand time in the new snow running from sniff spot to sniff spot. This morning she still thought it was pretty fun, but we had to be careful as the sidewalk grader dropped a lot of salt down and that is hard on her paws, so we had to stay out of the salt and into the snow. With the end of snow though, has returned the bitterly cold temperatures. It looks like more snow on Tuesday for us and then it's going to be up and down temps, every time it warms up a bit, we get more snow, then we get the really cold again. Argggghhh enough to drive a girl and her dog bonkers!

I'm recovering from a sinus induced ear infection. Joy joy. Those dang ear drops are freezing, it does't matter how long you roll it in your hand either. I am feeling sympathy pangs for molly. You too Sharlene? My right ear has been killing me at work today. Mine is usually caused by a fluid buildup and a couple days of decongestants does the trick. Today however, Sudafed's at home and I'm at work, so I suffer. An earache does make for a long day. I hope your infection clears up quickly. xxxx

Well, I went to the doctor last Thursday, because by the time I got the office I was having shooting pains straight into my head. I did a quick run across the street to chat with the pharmacist and got an over the counter to help get me through the day. Thank god my headset ear piece is on the other ear, or that would have been a real nightmare.

yea, fluids can cause mine too Barbara, or sinus pressure, which is also fluids and you get the pressure from behind but the fluid doesn't clear with the decongestants, builds up long enough to allow infection to set in. So in other words, keep a watch on that ear Barbara and if it gets going for too long, get some industrial strength decongestants.

Today I was doing good, went back to the office and by the time I left, 2 hours later than planned, sinus headache and I could feel the pressure in my ear again, and now behind my eye too. Thinking office should be off my list till this is cleared up, as it's a set back in my opinion. So sent email before I left saying working from home tomorrow and Wed, so we'll see how it goes.

Yep, Molly is a smart girl to escape the dreaded ear drops.

Oh Patti, I agree, ear aches are awful. I've had them since I was a child. Back then we didn't get the tubs put in I guess, because I had terrible ones and nothing was ever really done for them, other than antibiotics when they eventually would get bad.

It does make it hard to be sitting at the computer for every long periods of time I have to admit. Work can be a real long haul some days.

Oh that is a good idea the cup of warm water!! We are definitely trying that tonight .

Ear, still pressure but no pain. I wonder if something at my office made me feel more stuffy maybe. I scratched my eye at work yesterday, I think there was an eyelash and I instinctively rubbed it not thinking. Was a bit irritated this morning but now is fine.

I swear I told hubby that this is it. We have done our allotment of illness, and just crap health for the year. It's ridiculous how much has been going on around here to all of us and it is just not working for us at all. Time to move on and be healthy and happy. LOL (I'm still pretty happy over all even through this dumb stuff of ear, eye, I bet I'm due for nose!!!!)

Sonja sweetie, you stay right down there in California. I wouldn't wish this weather on you for an instance. :) :) Okay a mild breeze this way will work for me. LOL That is so cute about Arial on your lap while you work. Molly, not a chance, on my feet maybe, but never lap. Now I did have a cat that loved to sit on the keyboard. Would lay right down on it and just purr, even if you never touched him. He was happy guy. Gosh I loved that cat. Molly is not getting on top of my desk. Disaster!

Sharlene,
What's this?? You have an ear infection!!?? Maybe you need some Zymox Otic!! :D :D You know I'm just teasing!! I hope you're feeling better between the sinus and ears..it's all hooked up back there so one often makes another flare up!
My kids and I both have..wait for it...big tonsils!! So time to time we have of troubles with that. Was at the ENT doctor a few months ago when the whole works were painful..she did some crazy thing to check it out by running a tube through my nose..(I know-gross) down the back of my throat!!  YOW! It hurt like crazy. Afterward everything hurt...my ears, my eyes, my teeth!! Amazing how one can trigger another really easily! Hope your whole head feels better soon!!

Hi Sharlene-
I've been a tad busy and did not realize you were fighting off bugs. I'm sorry to hear that. Is this something where you'd be glad to saw off your nose? Knock on wood, I've been really fortunate for some time now. I think the Gods finally heard my pleas that I felt I'd paid my dues for awhile.

I wanted to thank you for suggesting I take baby steps regarding brother and future lunches. You are absolutely right. It went well. I'll let it sit for now and this year. We'll try something again next year. I only have 3 more weeks here anyway.

Chicken noodle soup. That's my get well go-to.

heeheh, that is funny Barbara, might be a good idea (Zymox Otic)

Nope, the nose is fine Susan, it's just inside the head, it gets all stuffy, no where to go I guess and presses on the ear. Today is the last day of the meds, so I hope it is cleared up, if not, back to the doc. The eye cleared up just fine, either a minor scratch or irritation with that. Must remember not to rub eye unthinkingly.

Susan, well I have experience with pain in the tush brothers. Gosh 3 weeks is all that's left, where does the time go. Course if that means spring will finally be coming out way...well... hahahahaha You bring spring and summer home with you!!

We have light fluffy snow this morning. I wish I'd had my camera with me for our morning dog walk. Little miss stuck her nose into a drift and came up with only eyes looking out of a pile of snow all over her face. She was quite pleased with herself, prancing down the sidewalk and shaking it off, only to find another good smell and do it all over again. I'd say she is feeling pretty good these days. I'm still limiting some jumping though and no stairs. I figured as hard as it is to keep her from being a spaz, she might need some extra healing time for that back. We don't want her to damage it any further or re injure it.

Hi Patti, yep, we should all be done for the year! :) :)
We'll melt and then freeze here and the sidewalk which has been dry from the cold will be a nightmare. I dread this more than snow. We need to have melt without having the freezing nights to get rid of this and really find our spring. That's not going to happen for awhile though from what the forecasters are saying. *sigh* We'll just have to make the best of it.

We could almost be twins. I've had ear problems for months. I actually thought it was high blood pressure. Doc gave me a prescription nasal spray and told me to take naproxen.... can't figure that out, but doesn't matter it didn't work. I can hardly stand to put the phone to my ears.

I was just saying over on Tracy's thread, that it's going to be challenging doing dog walks tonight. A water main over at neighbors across street has broken, water has flooding out for the last 1/2 hour to an hour, covering the entire street now, with a freeze coming tonight. It'll be an ice rink out there, so hope they put something down so cars don't end up in someones yard. We'll stay on our side and hope for the best.

Wow, that must be 2 celcius? I just checked you out on my weather app... that is a bit warmer than usual, glad to see it is finally in the positives!! But with that flood of water you are pretty close to zero and I can see why you are concerned about the ice skating rink developing!! Do you do measurements in celcius in Canada? I always have to check my weather app to see what it is in celcius as do not understand farenheit! Don't you just hate it when you forget something. I was just about to bake a banana cake to take to Dad and his nurses and uh oh, only one egg left as I forgot them last time!! So I will do a grocery shop this arvo and pick up some more and bake it for them tomorrow. They have been so lovely to him, Dad rung Mum this morning and said the nurses had taken him the ward TV to watch. Last time he was in I hired one and at least it gave him something to do as he is not a reader although Mum took him Harry Potter and he is enjoying that!

Yep 2 Celsius is where we are at now, -2 Celsius over night. The states is I think the only place that uses farenheit. It's pretty easy if you remember that
32F = 0C It gives you and idea anyway. So 32F is freezing same as 0C. Yea, we're pretty happy to have above freezing even for a day or two. It won't last and I looked at the extended and basically the same up till the 20 March so far. That is not impressive at all!!

Looks like we'll be around 0C for the next few weeks :( I was hoping the groundhog was right and it would stay colder because Henry doesn't get so dirty when the ground is hard. Around 0 plus sun means the snow melts and there are muddy puddles everywhere

yikes Tracy! That sounds like a heck of a storm.

I was getting my hair done today and my stylist was just telling me how he was home in England for 10 days and it was wonderful, raining and 8C. LOL He said one day of sunshine and him and his dad went golfing. I am guessing he wasn't around any of the flooding areas. LOL Might not care for the rain so much in that case.

Other than Molly hating thunder/lightening, I love a good rain storm. (if have a fireplace and am warm and snuggly somewhere)

The road did freeze over, but the guys were out there all night long till 8am working on it. (we didn't have water of course) and they had the road down to one lane and signs up to take it slow, people just creeped through, so no yard visits. That is really good~!

I slept through most of the work, just woke up once to some banging. It keep hubs and molly up quite a bit of the night though.

I agree, once the snow starts to melt it is full out mud and I noticed the last day or so, molly's paws are just YUCK when we get in.

Oh and no meds in my ear for 2 days and no ear ache!! whoo hooo!

Good ol' US of A. We tried switching to metrics many years ago but for some reason it just didn't fly. It seems kind of arrogant of us to be the only country in the world not on the metric system, I think. It can get confusing. Glad to hear the earache is a thing of the past. I too heard there is snow possibly coming to the east coast maybe Wednesday. What a winter!

I swear Bailey has more fans here....she could start her own fan club. She has really been a hit with the neighbors. She's got them all fooled thinking she's so cute. Silly doggie.

Oh shoot Patti. Sorry you still aren't well. No snow for us last night. I think ours is tonight but then it will be 6C on Monday and melt. Molly had some daddy time yesterday as I was out and about doing some girlie stuff. Him and her both seemed to enjoy it.

Susan but of course Bailey has her fan club. It was bound to happen once they got a look at her and met her. You'll be getting letters over the summer asking when she'll be coming back to Florida. Lol.

Looks like we are going to really get into the melt freeze stuff here this month.

Some of our snow has melted and it is about 40 out right now. I have taken the dogs on 2 walks. Tipper is acting strangely this morning, real subdued and distant. Don't know what all this is about. Get ready cause the news just said this latest storm is going to have it all, ice, wind, snow. I know you are all too familiar with these. I am glad I went to the Dr. this morning and got that over with. I am taking it easy today. Tacos for supper, and just not going to do much. Tipper was crazy when I got home, she just does not like me to leave. Get Molly's coat ready, and stay safe. Blessings

Great to see you Tracy! :) Always miss you when you aren't around. Glad you didn't sink under a load of beer! LOL

Patti, yep, we're ready for the storm. I'm working from home tomorrow. Molly will go out for her last walk before it gets here tonight.

Speaking of dog walks, we got a good melt going today and yesterday. (ice though this morning was a tad tricky) So, white dog and mud, boy did molly have a great time on her walk. She found some grass and went nutso, must have peed 3 times on it and pooped too, then did the back kick all over the place and ran to the next grass spot. Stepped on a thorn, but she held her paw up for me and I removed it. The girl knows not to walk on a thorn at least! She was literally dripping mud though by the time we got back in the front door!!! My foyer is a mess, even with towels to try and clean it up. LOL But she was happy so that is good.

Now she has had her dinner and is taking a nap till dad comes up and she gets her special "daddys is home treat" on the couch with him.

I on the other hand, have a sinus pain behind the left eye, so I know that barometric is changing. grrrrrrrr dang sinus pains are as good as the old broken bone in the foot for letting you know about a weather change. *sigh*

Awww!! So happy to hear that dear Molly had such a great time in the mud!:D

I know what you mean about those darn sinus headaches, I've had my sinuses operated on a long time ago and tho the infections have slowed down I still get that pressure sometimes. My doc has me trying a new product called QNASL and it has made a huge difference with my sinuses.

Hope your sinus pain goes away.

mcdavis
03-11-2014, 10:05 PM
Oh blimey - hope the weather changes quickly and the sinus pain goes away.
They're still trying to decide how much snow we'll be getting over the next few days, so I took Henry to kennels / day care today - I wanted him to like going before he got much older. He had a great time - was rather reluctant to leave, but has been asleep since returning home.
I was less happy as I fell over twice on their very icy parking lot - once with Henry in my arms! Fortunately he was unhurt as he landed on me, but I have a badly bruised elbow, back ache and lots of other bruises are now appearing :(

molly muffin
03-11-2014, 10:21 PM
Oh Lori, I'll have to look into that QNASL and ask Doc if that is a viable option for me. I've been xrayed numerous times and they still can't figure out why I have so many issues with sinus's. It would be different if it were like a runny nose or something, but unless I'm sick I don't get runny nose, just congested head.

Oh my gosh! Be careful out there. The ice here was horrible this morning, after the melt yesterday then the freeze over night. You didn't see it till your feet went flying out from under you basically. I was walking off sidewalk in the snow in yards and just said fooey on it, this is the only way to get molly out to go potty.

Man, you are going to feel that tomorrow even more. That sucks. Ouch. Glad Henry had a good time though.

I've heard 5 - 8 centimeters and 10 - 15 centimeters and over at Niagara it is looking maybe 15 - 20 cm. We'll just get however much depending on which way the wind blows. LOL Hunker in and enjoy that it looks pretty outside for a few hours. :)

Hi all,
Patti if we had rain I slept right through it. I do like my sleep. :) It had just started snowing and we had a dusting starting when I woke up at 7:30. (got to sleep in since working from home today! whoo hooo, molly had a sleep in too)
Then, the snow continued, and continued some more, oh yea and then it continued some more, and we have alot of new snow now on top of the old. *sigh* Hubby had to use the snow blower. I could barely get the shovel through some of the big drifts to get a path down for molly at around 5:00pm. She did quickee pees and then had no trouble high tailing it for home! LOL I wasn't going to argue with her either. The snow on the paths was higher than her head, she looked like the queen molly trotting up it with her fur coat on tonight. Very regal.

Many flights are still cancelled tomorrow it looks like, so hubby won't be off and about, which I rather like anyway, when the weather is bad. Rather he didn't fly in storms ya know.

Molly is in rebel mode unless she is sleepy it seems and didn't want to be picked up and carried upstairs last night. Pfftt like she has an option. She was dancing around though trying to avoid the "lift", until she figured out that she wasn't going to win that argument. :) :)

Well, I'm exhausted. Full days work, snow vs shovel cage match, yea, a good nights sleep sounds perfect!

hugs all, sleep well, stay warm (or cool for you in those warm weather climates, you know the ones I'm trying not to think about, even though I did watch Beachfront properties on Home and Garden tv tonight, just to torture myself)

Hi girls

Sus, I think you huffed and puffed and got so dizzy you blew the wrong way... now we have a cyclone heading our way out the tropics!! It should not be too bad as once they hit our cooler southern oceans they tend to lose a lot of their nastiness, but it looks like we are in for a wet windy weekend!!

hahaha, molly would love the butterflies and probably the bees too knowing her.

Actually when we go on walks when the weather is nice, she always stops to smell flowers.

I might send myself over there if this keeps up. :) Actually we have to be approaching the end of winter soon. I figure we just need to close out march and get through april, when it can be damp and rainy and sometimes yes, even snow, but it doesn't stay on the ground long at that point.

It will be nice to get back into our outdoor activities. Molly likes going for walks with her dog friends and she'll get a hair cut for the summer too. Actually will probably do that sooner than later. It helps for the mud too. Not as much hair to get in. :)

Wow Sharlene, you guys had enough snow to cancel flights...what a winter!! We had a big rain yesterday and 55 degrees...and then the bottom dropped out and last night it went down into the 20s.
This morning was brutal because of the wind. Of all the cold days we've had this winter somehow-maybe because we just had 2 very warm days- this one was the worst!
I could not take Trixie on a log walk, the wind made it difficult to be out more than about the 10-15 minutes we spent going 2 blocks and back.
Of course Trixie was ready to continue on but it wasn't going to happen today!

I haven't seen gators to snatch a picture of yet, but on Bob's walk yesterday, he had to pick Bailey up when he spotted a gator. Yep, we got out yesterday finally, and I don't think Molly would have come home at all if I hadn't finally made her. It wasn't that we went far, but that she had so many things to smell and check out that haven't been there for awhile.

Molly jumped on the couch last night for the first time in I think at least 7 weeks. Seemed mighty pleased with herself too. It was so she could take a nap next to her dad and while waiting on us to be ready for bed. I think carried her upstairs when we were finally ready as she was too sleepy to open her eyes for very long at all. (she is such a suck! LOL)

Nothing too exciting planned here this weekend. Hubby has a new laptop he is setting up. We're going to see what we can figure out concerning some vacation options this year. How's Molly tummy?? Poops better yet?
Trixie had some bad ones-(not terrible but not good) late Saturday and Sunday...I went right on to the white rice/chicken meals for a few days and a two doses of metronidazole which did the trick. She's been fine since but I'm always on edge with her digestive system.
I hope Molly is okay today and getting back to normal.

Her poops are better, but as firm as they could be, still not bad like the other day either, so in between?

Not sure what started it, other than I'm waiting on her liver support meds to come in and she can't walk as far on every walk because of the ice out there. Just not sure. You know molly gets these gastro upsets and it's always baffling what brings them on.

No snow for us today. I think tomorrow night maybe. I'm stuck in crazy land at work, so haven't been online much as usual this week. Yay for better poops, sometimes there just isn,t any obvious reason for bad poops.

Great there is no more snow. We,ve had that much rain in the last two days that the river is really high, so I had to put sandbags down along the front of Mac,s owners house as they live right on the river, can,t have them flooded while there on holiday. Did my back in doing it so some heavy duty painkillers for me. :D

hahahaha, snow tonight for us, but then a quick shovel in the morning and it should be melted in the afternoon.
It's that melt/freeze combo that is doing us in right now.
Today though - WE WALK we have a melt going and so molly and I hope to have a nice walk this afternoon.

She is back on the florifora probiotic for the moment, poops okay but I'll keep her on it for a few days to make sure.

Do something fun and pleasant for yourself and your furbabies this weekend everyone!!! Just one thing at least :)

After Hamish had the tummy upsets from the Blue recall food I started giving him a tiny amount of pure pumpkin with every meal - he loved it and it definitely seemed to help.
4C here today so Henry and I are playing indoors because a walk will mean a bath and neither one of us it keen to do that ;)
It's the ice show tomorrow so I get to spend the day at the rink whilst Henry and OH have a boys day!

Today Molly had walkies and played in the mud and became a Mess for sure, but had a good time.

Hubby survived his interview the cbc today and his bruises are fading. He isn't a fan of public speaking. lol

I'm going to pamper myself tonight. If we get snow, then we'll play in the snow in the morning (molly and me and hubby, maybe our friends and molly's westie friend, maggie, too) :) :)

Good idea about the pumpkin! Good luck tomorrow at the ice show!!!

Everyone else chip in with the 'Addy, one good thing a day'!!!!

Hi Sharlene,
First off, thank you so much for always keeping track of me and Jasper and the constant support you provide for me and others on the forum. You are a doll! I don't often post on Molly's thread but want to let you know that I appreciate your support. :)

So I take it that Molly is feeling better if she is tromping through the mud?! Are her poops better now? We had about an inch of snow a couple of nights ago but it melted the next day. It is supposed to be cold and windy for the weekend, but anything is an improvement at this point.

I am doing some good things too. The main thing is getting some relaxation in today, and plans for lunch with my BFF tomorrow!

Big hugs from me and Jasper, and Shelby too xo

Why has hubby got bruises, did this lead to his interview? Have I missed something? Sounds interesting! :)

Ohhh just checked the weather app and it is snowing for you and -1C, eek, Addy is much warmer at a balmy 3C!! The time has changed you are now 7 hrs ahead of me, (minus a day) or I guess 17 hrs behind :D:D LOL I get so confused, soon it will be 8 hrs ahead as we have not changed back yet. Stink, I will probably hardly every see anyone for the long cold winter months

hahahah, yes you will. Remember we did mange to keep up last year. :) We all seem to have some crazy hours eh.

The deal with hubs is that he doesn't really like interviews and public speaking, etc and this was an interview for a story being done by the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) and he had the nerves before it, filming, lights, reporter. So I had texted him afterwards and asked him how it went and if he was a rock star. He responded that, bruises are fading, think I'll live, no groupies to be found, not rock star. I did hear that they took his wheels away from both him and the reporter. (the chairs in the boardroom have wheels and both of them were tending to move back and forth, which I think might have made the camera man feel a bit drunk, so he went went and got two chairs without wheels and made them sit in those.) hahahahahaha

Molly and I had a grand time playing on the floor last night. We played ball till she was pooped out and needed a nap. Then we lay together on the floor and watched tv, well I watched, she rolled around and got loved on, which was fine for her. So, alot of good quality time and this great!

The snow was just a dusting and is already melting, so no playing in snow today. Tonight is suppose to be -11C!!! yikes. I just keep telling myself to get through this week and then spring Must be right around the corner. hahaha. I'm hoping anyhow!

I have to go pick up molly's liver supplement today. Then I think I'm going to some things off Amazon for her, because you know, a girl has to shop and molly designates me as her personal shopper (diva that she is). :)

have a good weekend all!

Well there was around 5cm of snow when we left the rink this evening, and it's continued to fall so not sure how much we'll end up with. Fortunately we took Henry out for a nice long walk this morning so he's currently relaxing and watching TV :)

Did you end up picking out some things for Molly on Amazon??
How are her poops?...all firmed up by now, I hope. Freezing weather here today too...not so bad in temperature but the wind...very, very windy and making it feel so cold!
Has Molly been spending time up on her window seat lately? I hope she's keeping an eye out for Spring...supposed to be here already but definitely running late! :p

No rain here yet, but suppose to get some today and tomorrow. Our temps are finally suppose to be warming up. Lovely, I hope we can find the sun again too.

No way!!! really??? that is shocking. You might be in for a hot summer at this rate.

We're finally above freezing here, had some snow flurries this evening, but nothing stuck as it was 3C, now we have rain.

I'm just glad it's not snow and ice. I'll take above freezing any day of the week. :) When we went out for out last walk of the night, we met a neighbor out walking their dog too. We both commented that we hadn't seen each other all winter, where as normally we run into each other around 10pm all the time. So, I guess that things are getting back to normal again here.

It is warm and windy out. We are waiting for the snow to start later. Are you supposed to get any? Have you been able to walk Molly? Any after affects from the back injury or is that all finished? Is Molly jumping etc. like before it happened? It is hard to keep Tipper from jumping on the bed even though I got the ramp. I would have to put a barrier around the whole bed. Tipper got one good walk in today. She has been sleeping more than normal the last two days and that concerns me. I have to go see Delora tomorrow, she is miserable and crying. I do not want to go into a nursing home, as my immune system is really compromised and I get anything out there. I must go as I feel really bad for her. I hope I do not run into the evil son! Blessings

No wind here really yesterday, just a breeze. Today we are just cloudy with some scattered flurries later this evening and then tomorrow, sun and warmer (or cloudy and warmer, it's always a crap shoot) lol
Molly has been having good walks with the snow melted. We don't over do it or go very far these days, not like we would have a couple years ago. She gets tired and I'd end up having to carry her back. That happens sometimes in the summer if it is too hot and we go too far. :) :)

I think her back is good, I don't know that it will ever be As good as it was. She jumps for her treats, she sometimes will jump on or off the couch, usually she'll wait for a lift. She occasionally goes down the main floor stairs, but only once or twice as she gone up them since hurting her back.

Molly quite a long time ago, stopped being allowed to jump off the bed. Not that I'd trust her if I weren't in there with her, but she knows that I go to the end of the bed and say, lets go and put my arm straight out and she will run across the bed and jump on my arm, throwing both her front legs over the arm and waiting for the "lift" off and either down to the floor or carry down stairs.

You do know we are here to serve Molly right?? !! :) :) :) :)

We had a lovely sleep in this morning, hubs brought me coffee in bed and my ipad so I stayed even longer and molly took one look, flipped over on to her back and went straight into snore land.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Off course you are there to serve Molly :D I love the way she just throws her legs over for a carry. Like you I was always wary of Woody,s back after he hurt it, he was never allowed to jump for his ball anymore or do big zoomies in the garden for too long just incase.

A lovely lye in is great, Mac was up at 6 am this morning and I was like its Saturday go to sleep but nope we had to get up, maybe I shouldn,t have learned him my routine lol :D

Those back injuries are such a nuisance for them... Flynny won't jump into the car, but he does jump out. Can't get on my bed either, it is one of those high ones though but he likes sleeping in his own bed anyway. Most of the time he can do the couch, but sometimes he just puts his paws up there and waits for me to lift his butt. He hurt his back many years ago and I notice there are times when it must bother him just like us humans that have ongoing residual back ache.

Awww lovely brekky in bed, top marks for hubby!! xx

No snow here. We are currently at 45F and nice and sunny. The back yard is especially nice facing the south, and the front is cold, facing the north. It's so different, it's funny really. If you walk out the front, you likely will want a jacket and if you go out the back, you can be in a t-shirt just fine on the deck. Weird huh. :) Needless to say I am out the back not the front.
We should be in the 50's tomorrow with sunshine. Too bad I have to work. :)
We're still going to be cold at night, but it's not too bad. I think maybe one evening they said we might get snow, but that could change by the end of the week so I'm not worrying about that either. :)

Molly is loving this weather and we had a nice walk with one of her dog friends at around 11:30pm last night. You never know when you'll run into someone out dog walking around here. :)

How nice to have the South facing back yard! All of my main rooms face South...so I have sunlight streaming in all day (if it's sunny!). It heats things up a little too much in the summer but no complaints when I have such a bright and sunny apartment!

I bet Molly will have a spring in her step if you are getting some nice moderating temps like we are. It's a welcome change for sure. I do like the change of seasons though...I'm not a winter hater, I like the snow too but I guess this winter tested everyone's resolve! It was a rough one, but I'll take it over the 3 H's we get here in the summer though...hazy, hot, & humid. Boy I hate that stuff!! ;) Still no resolution to my missing Vetoryl shipment...everyone's been nice but no one is helpful! Ugh.

I don't mind snow, but I hate ice and these really awful cold temperatures. I'm not a big fan of humidity either. We get a bit of it here too.

Molly had a fine ole time tonight. The closet door in the foyer was open and she managed to get 6 pair of shoes out and scattered all over the foyer. I had shoes everywhere. Then we had the grand argument as she was getting brushed and her bangs trimmed about brushing her tail. She hates to have her tail, brushed, touched or any any way messed with. Just a pain about it. I won though and the tail is finally brushed and puffy. In fact she is a fluff muffin all over right now. But lord does she ever let out the toots when she is getting brushed and doesn't want to be. Girl can clear a room, so cute and yet so deadly. Pranced just fine on her walk though, came home, had her joint supplement (i got the new order of cosequin in today) and is now in nap mode. Not real sure what she did that exhausted her so much!! LOL Probably the argument over the tail. LOL

LOL Trumpet bum, if only! At least then there would be some warning! No, these are silent but deadly.

No worries Tina, hubby and I, one or the other have been known to jump from the couch ourselves and run out of the room, laughing and usually saying something like "Molly!!! My gawd dog, did that come from your body!!!"

She does have a shoe fetish, she loves shoes, preferably recently worn ones. She doesn't go for the chew, she goes for the trying to fit her entire body inside of one. She has been known to wear herself out and fall asleep with her head resting on the shoe, still dreaming of getting inside of it. You know the only thing she Will chew is a spike heeled shoe. Those are perfect for her to get her mouth around. (no I don't wear spike heels, I'd likely break my neck if I tried, so she doesn't get much of a chance, but guest beware!)

ROFL Kathy! Well if the shoe fits!!

It's been a pretty hectic time around here the last few days. Hubs was away, I'm working and doing some special projects, we have a new CEO that is either causing tons of anxiety or not enough, hard to tell, but it makes people pretty antsy. That leads to the trickle down effect I think. It's way too soon to tell what changes will occur but all departments seem to be on edge. Can't blame them I suppose.

Yes the weather is lovely here, for now. LOL The yard is cleaned up of all the winter mess and boy was there a lot of mess. hahaha

Molly is booked into getting groomed on Friday. We'll be able to see her eyes again!! I'm looking forward to getting her looking cute and less furry again. That stuff is horrid to try to keep the mats out of in this spring weather. Rain, mud, and white fur, with a harness, means we are in brush mode constantly and she was growling at me as I was trying to brush her ears the other day. I said, that's it, I'm calling her groomer, we both need to be saved. So I called the groomer and said, Deanna, it's Sharlene, SAVE me and molly! She cracked up laughing, but got us in this week. LOL I explained about mollys back and all to her, and she understands, having had two shih tzu's that had back problems too. Asked if I'd been sent to the doggie chiropracter yet. I was like, NO! and not going either. I'm fearful with that bone degeneration spot on her spine of any kind of manipulation.

Anyway.

Talk about a little diva. So I give her a couple bites of plain chicken breast on top of her dry kibble today. I looked over and notice that she had picked out the chicken breast and when she got a bite of the kibble in her mouth, she was turning her head and dropping it on the floor next to her dog bowl. I was like, Molly Muffin! You clean that up right now. LOL Well, she didn't right Then of course, having to have the last say and all, but when I checked later, she had eaten the stuff she'd spit out on the floor and then left the rest in her dog dish.

She grazes on her dry food off and on during the day. She has wet on top of it to get her to eat at all in the mornings and take her liver supplement. The she a bit of wet on it after her late afternoon walk to get her to eat a bit more.

She has Never had the cushing appetite that we all talk about, unless it's her decision. She scavenge for chicken though and go nuts if she smells me cooking meat in the kitchen, but really could care less most of the time about dry dog food. Go figure. I probably wouldn't want it either. LOL

So, I'm trying to stay as caught up as I can be on the forum, which doesn't leave much time for me to write on my own thread and you know, we're just doing the same as usual around here. :)

hugs all

Hi Sharlene,
haha :D leave it to your little diva dog to pick the chicken out of the kibble. I like how she just dropped the kibble bit out of her mouth like -yeah, you can have this back- !! heehee she's knows what's good!! Trixie will pretty much eat anything that's coming her way! I put down her plate..mostly freshly cooked cut up chicken with a side of canned food..she always eats the chicken first (obviously) then scarfs down the dog food. She never leaves a crumb and once the plate is clean she hunts around the kitchen for anything that may have fallen on the floor!

How did the grooming go? is Molly all ready for bikini weather!?? Any photos coming of the new cut?? :D For once our groomer actually shaved Trixie's back very short like I always ask for it to be! It's all velvety that way, and the cut lasts longer. I think at my groomers they never want to cut too short or you won't have to come back as soon as they would like you to!
Hope you all are having a nice weekend...3rd day in a row here of perfect spring weather and we're all loving it! :) :) :)

Molly's hair cut went well, she looks just like she does in every new picture when she is groomed. short with a full face. Until then, she looks like she did sitting on the yard picture, fluffy and hair everywhere. She runs away as soon as she seems a camera come out the little witch! I'll have to see if I can catch her unawares at some point. My groomer is so funny with her. She gets down on the floor and gives molly belly kisses and tells her what pretty eyes she has. I'm laughing the whole time and I said, I can never tell if you are grooming her or wooing her. hahahahah She was giggling and said, with molly it's a dual combination, you have to woo her a bit before you can groom her. She has been her groomer every since I've had her.

Right now, she is having a snooze in the sun on her rug. Snoring away as usual. That girl does like her nap times. She perks up when she decides to do so and not before. For instance, it's a 50/50 chance that if I decide to take a nap, she grab a toy and start huffing and puffing and/or barking at me (if I ignore the huff and puffs) until I get down and play with whatever toy she has in her mouth. This last for about 5 - 10 minutes at which point, she is done and I'm wide awake. Try to get her to play when she isn't in the mood (like before my nap) and she doesn't pay a bit of attention to you and puts on the full ignore, don't bother me mood.

The weather is lovely here today and yes, we too are in danger of way below freezing temperatures and snow on Tuesday. brrrr Molly has been walked this morning and we'll go again around 5 or so and then around 10pm. She always goes out at least 3 times a day, snow, rain, ice, sunshine, wind. No matter. She runs around and plays in the back yard if are out there with her.

hugs all, have a great day everyone

This has been a sad day. We lost one of the neighborhood dogs to pancreatic cancer. His owner is just devastated. Lex was the cutest little guy, and one of molly's buddies that we walked with in the mornings during the summers. 8 am and out we would go and molly would see him coming down the street and he'd see her and they'd pull us to get to each other for a 10 second sniff hello, then proceed to promptly carry on their business while his owner and I chatted and she'd give molly treats, which everyone Knows is the way to her heart. She lives alone now in a big house and she is missing Lex something awful. We were both crying today, so over all, not a good day. It was a surprise and seemed to come out of nowhere. :( one day fine, then pancreatic attack, stopped eating and they discovered the cancer. He had always had regular checkups. His owner would never let him suffer and she said as soon as she knew that he was suffering, she went ahead and did what had to be done, even as her heart was breaking.

Think I'll go love on molly a bit more.
see you all tomorrow, need a break tonight

Yes it is very sad for my neighbor and I worry about her since she is alone in that big house now. Lex was certainly her mainstay. He was her buddy.

Poor molly has lost a few doggie friends and a people friend since she has been with us, and each one she Still goes up their driveway heading to the door to see if they are around. It's kind of sad actually, she misses them and seems not to forget that this is where they lived.

I bit the bullet and took Monday off so I'll have a 4 day weekend. I think I just really need a break. With it being Easter weekend, we have a family dinner and friends from out of town that we will be visiting, so figure I'll need a day to rest up before going back to work. ;)

Tomorrow we are suppose to have rain, changing to freezing rain, changing to snow. Luckily it will melt and not stick around too long, but if I wake up to that stuff, I'll be working from home tomorrow. hahaha

Molly loves it when I'm home so no hardship for me there. :)

Not a clue what to do for dinner. Salmon maybe, or I could do a roast or something. I really have to think about that soon right. :)

Molly has an ultrasound appt tomorrow.
I know I've been procrastinating with the bad weather, but losing Lex scarred the bejeebes out of me and her liver enzymes did go up a bit on the last bloodwork. Then when she hurt her back, my vet was saying that you could see on the xray that the liver is pushing the spleen, so that can't be good. I want to see what's going on with our little muchkin diva.

I am home for an hour, but molly is still there. I saw a new IMS today and I really liked her. http://www.vetemergency.ca/docs/bio_D_Naigamwalla.html

We went over everything, molly's history, whats going on now, what has gone on in past years, etc. She took a lot of time actually with me. We talked the cushings angle, since that is what is on the radar for the last few years.
She thinks molly doesn't show the typical symptoms of cushings, which we knew and she doesn't want to treat with no symptoms and the repeated LDDS test all coming back negative. She said, maybe once they wouldn't but eventually it would show a positive and molly's doesn't. Yes we have the issues of liver, etc and hopefully today will answer some of that.

So today Molly is having:
ultrasound
BP
Lung xray
Atypical cushings test to be sent to Tenn (the most expensive test I'm having done)
Urinalysis
Neuro consult for her back

I think that is it.

So, for the cushings forum the most interesting thing was the discussion of atypical that she brought up. I said, but her cortisol is high, that would make it normal cushings right? She said, yes and no, if something else is causing the high cortisol (live, kidney, gall bladder, etc) she could actually have both. If she has atypical in addition to something else. Or maybe not. She did mention that every atypical they send all seem to come back with outside normal ranges and other vets are seeing the same thing, which is causing some discussion amongst vets of whether the ranges, protocols need to be reevaluated on that test. So that was interesting discussion.

I told her I was part of a cushings forum and she thought that was pretty cool, that owners Should know the ins and outs of what is going on or possible with their pets. So, nice there was no push back against other opinions and yep, you know we brought in Dr. Petersons opinion of not treating without clear symptoms. (she totally agrees) Discussed Dr. Oliver, the father of Atypical, she is a fan. And Dr. Bruyette in California, again a fan and doing great work in the field. So, her and I were very sympatico in what we were thinking and where we are at.

So, all the test including atypical is to basically, cover all our bases concerning molly's health and see if we can figure out what is going on.

No heart murmur by the way, so yay!

I'll know more after the evaluation today, the ultrasound is completed and I meet back with her at 3pm this afternoon.

I came home to do a few work items as I have to pay for todays adventures. LOL Yea, molly as put me back to work. hahaha That Diva!

They also have food to give molly as soon as the ultrasound is over.

hugs all, I'll let you know what they say, when next I check in.

Sounds like you have found an excellent IMS, and you are certainly leaving no stone unturned!

I have found this article, written by UTK Professors, to be interesting: Variability of Estradiol Concentration in Normal Dogs (http://works.bepress.com/barton_rohrbach/106/) It basically says that elevated estradiol can be found in normal healthy dogs.

Will be waiting anxiously with the others for sweet Molly's results.

We're back and I had a pretty long meeting with the IMS. Yes I do really like her, and we had a very good meeting of the minds I guess one would say.

She'll be emailing me her discharge write up, which is good, because even though I was trying to take notes, it wasn't working very well. Not sure when we'll get that as she said she normally does discharges from home and she is on duty tonight, tomorrow and the Easter holiday. No rest for the IMS. :)

So.... it could be better and it could be worse. That is what I am telling myself.
Anyone can tell I like to procrastinate the do not want to deal with it stuff in my head. I've so far, browsed and responded on every thread. Went through the facebook group to make sure everything is fine there. Enjoyed a lovely picture of Squirt, which momentarily freaked me out as I worried what had happened. Nothing, Squirt was just having a snooze and looking adorable. And then I could think of no other reason to not come to my thread to update.
So here goes:

The good.
No heart murmer
No back pain.
Liver enlarged but no nodules seen on it.
Bladder stones have passed with no problem.
Her BP was okay, they did 3 tests to make sure. 138 - 144 and they think that she was having some stress reactions so the reality is probably lower than that.
lung xray is good
She doesn't have classic symptoms of cushings.

The Not as good

luxating patella, back left leg, stage two, so no surgery recommended at this time

A kidney stone in each kidney. Left one is small, right one is smaller.
If they don't move, there won't be a problem. If they move to create a blockage, then kidney surgery (which she felt is invasive and often causes other problems) a stint via surgery at University of Guelph, or send us to the states to either Purdue or NYC, AMC to try to have it zapped with sonic to break it up, currently not offered in Canada.

The liver is enlarged, probably more than last time, but hard to tell exact diameters on the ultrasound even though "high res" but as I said, no nodules seen, but it is pressing on lungs, which causing some breathing noises.

The adrenal glands are bilaterally very enlarged more so than the last ultrasound.

Looking at the ultrasound, liver and adrenal glands she would say she is definitely pituitary cushings.

Add to that: Molly now has a left side nodule (tumor) 1.3 centimeters on the adrenal gland. Currently non invasive to the vena cava. She thinks most likely is benign, but of course no way to tell for sure. Since both adrenals are enlarged, she does not think primary adrenal cushings, as one is usually larger than the other in that case, while mollys are just both huge, therefore, likely pituitary and adrenal tumors.

Molly Might just be in that 5% of dogs, where the tumor of the pituitary is in an area that does not respond to LDDS, it is unknown why she would continuously test negative on all LDDS test and we will likely be retesting that. We could do an MRI as that is the only way to know for certain.

She doesn't want to treat with lysodren, as that is very dependent on being able to watch for symptoms that molly doesn't have. No way to tell if she were to go too low during loading.

Trilostane she said, will normally cause the adrenal glands to enlarge, but might let the liver shrink, as the liver is a very resilient organ.

We might try the flax and lignans depending on what the UofT test comes back with.

So there you have it. We have some things to think about and we have some things to keep an eye on. It's not good, but others have had and continue to have it worse.

Molly on the whole, she said, is quite the character, full of life and interested in everything and everyone. She becomes this beautiful dog it seems when I am not around and at which time she becomes very protective of me. (showed the vet tech her teeth when he went to touch her while with me, and was a completely doll in the back when doing the ultrasound) She had a nice snack after her tests. In fact, I went out to the front to wait for them to go get her for me and the lady at the desk looked at me and I said, she'll be out in a minute, she's having a snack and they just laughed and thought that was wonderful and went back to look at her. (vet tech and IMS both said, she'll be out, she has to finish her snack, she's hungry) Molly obviously knows how to win hearts.

This has been a long day and I don't even know how much I've taken in. There was one point when I said something to the IMS and just stopped and had to catch my breath and start over.

She said to relax for the next bit and we'd see what the tests show and go from there.

Thanks for being around today everyone. I might be a tad bit emotional at the moment, and I'm sure I have written a book and yet still feel like there is more to say and yet nothing to say.

hugs

You know how out of whack I am, that I typed all of that and then had it in the preview pane and never clicked submit. I then went and laid down, took a 15 minute nap, took molly for a walk because she was bugging me and then thought hmm, wonder if I posted that. No reason to even think that other than, my mind is elsewhere I suppose.

The thing that is bothering me is that molly has No signs of cushings other than what the ultrasound shows. None, doesn't over eat, doesn't over drink, no potty accidents, urine isn't dilute, not lethargic, eyes bright and interested. And yet she might have Both a pituitary and adrenal tumor??!!! That is blowing my mind. How could she have both and no signs of either.

I know I need to chill out, but it's all so confusing and it shouldn't be. I've been living, breathing cushings, every single day for years now on this forum and yet it is my own dog that is going to surprise me and be the one that is completely different from all the textbooks. Even the IMS said, Molly doesn't appear to have read the text book at all.

Wow, wow, wow!

What a day, what a day.

Sorry, repeating myself. I can imagine you must be incredibly overwhelmed with your head spinning Sharlene.

I am sorry about the bad news. LP is not so terrible. I went through LP surgery on my Ichiro as he was grade III. Kidney stones, Tobey has those as well, but they have remained as they are, and no vet here will even discuss kidney surgery to remove kidney stones. Of course, she has numerous small ones, not singular stones.

About the cushings.... hmm. That is a true stumper. I wonder if Molly (and I don't even know if this is possible), is just the type that her body can and does process the excess cortisol without issue (no excessive symptoms), except for the stress it causes on her liver? Just like some people can be 'carriers' of certain diseases, and so they never display many symptoms, but it's still there? Is that possible? I'm just thinking out loud at this point of course.

Of course I am happy about the good results, and I am just as sad about the other. I am understanding that Molly is in the same predicament Tipper is in, with not one but two tumors?? You know they said Tipper was not your typicalmCush dog either, just like Molly. Was this tumor present on her left adrenal on the last ultra sound? Are they going to monitor it to make sure it does not grow? You have a lot of information to go thru. You know even Dr. Bruyette said Tipper's numbers etc were not that of a typical cush dog. Hopefully this is just an adenoma, and it is not secreting anything. I know how you feel like your head is going to explode from all the information to digest. Hi Sharlene - well someone once said to me that Flynn's scan results made them feel like a deer in the headlights, ditto to Molly's report! It is very thorough and kudo's to your vet team for working through it with you, have put some comments below. x

So.... it could be better and it could be worse. That is what I am telling myself.

The good.
No heart murmer YAY
No back pain. Yippeee!
Liver enlarged but no nodules seen on it. Excellent, no nodules :)
Bladder stones have passed with no problem. Good girl Molly with your drinking!
Her BP was okay, they did 3 tests to make sure. 138 - 144 and they think that she was having some stress reactions so the reality is probably lower than that. Awesome, makes the adrenal nodule less likely to be anything nasty like pheo
lung xray is good Whoop, whoop, great to have good lungs!!
She doesn't have classic symptoms of cushings. Which makes deciding whether to treat or not that much easier

The Not as good

luxating patella, back left leg, stage two, so no surgery recommended at this time Darn wonky legs, they have been a bit of a scourge here

I can do kidney stones :), be good to know how big they are and which part of the kidney they are sitting in. If they do not cause blockages they often can just pass on their own which Molly may well have done previously. Her bladder stones could have started life as kidney stones and she has got rid of those quite nicely. I was also wondering if her back is good if that episode of pain she had may have been due to these??

The liver is enlarged, probably more than last time, but hard to tell exact diameters on the ultrasound even though "high res" but as I said, no nodules seen, but it is pressing on lungs, which causing some breathing noises. Hmmm yes it would be hard to tell this one, did they do updated LFTs?

The adrenal glands are bilaterally very enlarged more so than the last ultrasound.

Looking at the ultrasound, liver and adrenal glands she would say she is definitely pituitary cushings. But no symptoms, or positive tests

Flynn did not have one particularly smaller either, but no cushings for him. When was her last scan done Sharlene to see how fast this has come into the picture?

So if treating was decided upon, would the main goal be to shrink the liver? You are much better at this sort of stuff than me, but I agree in absence of symptoms and high cortisol it could be quite dangerous?? Isn't the main goal of treatment to lower the cortisol and in Molly's case with the cortisol normal you could run into trouble?

We might try the flax and lignans depending on what the UofT test comes back with.

So there you have it. We have some things to think about and we have some things to keep an eye on. It's not good, but others have had and continue to have it worse. That's all very well and good but it does not stop the worry about your own dog Sharlene!

Molly obviously knows how to win hearts. She surely does, she was won mine that's for sure! :D

She said to relax for the next bit and we'd see what the tests show and go from there. I like your IMS Sharlene, she sounds very thorough and wants to get to the bottom of all this.

Thanks for being around today everyone. I might be a tad bit emotional at the moment, and I'm sure I have written a book and yet still feel like there is more to say and yet nothing to say. There is always more to say!! I love your post with all the details, as I am a details girl myself :D

Hello all and thank you for the replies, they certainly help. In answer to a few questions.

No the adrenal nodule wasn't there on the last ultrasound done in 2012.
We were going to do the repeat ultrasound in Dec 2013, between hubby getting pneumonia, then molly hurting her back, it didn't get done till now, so a difference of about 18 months (?) for this to show up.

No LFT's were done this time Trish. We had the Dec results which showed the ALP and ALT had gone up some. The ALP increased almost 500 pts.

She has had high cortisol since 2011 we think, confirmed in 2012, but no reason for it, since she has never and still doesn't show cushings symptoms. Her LDDS tests are what have been negative.

We thought maybe she hadn't gone full out, or maybe it was something else causing the higher cortisol levels. The IMS said, the only sign of cushings that Molly has, is the ultrasound and the higher cortisol, but no outward symptoms.

On the last ultrasound her adrenals and liver were moderately enlarged, no nodule seen, and now the adrenals are much larger and the nodule has shown up.

We'll know more about the kidney stone locations and size and the nodule and adrenal and liver size, once I have the report in my hands. That should give us the details.

There is really nothing to be decided until I can see the report and look at what is actually said on it, locations, recommendations and size of various things.

I wonder if the nodule didn't come into existence due to the higher cortisol levels. The thing is that the cortisol levels don't seem to affect molly outwardly at all, but do internally.

The IMS said that without symptoms she doesn't like to treat and that is what Dr. Peterson said too. This was before we knew of the nodule. The IMS doesn't want to jump into anything until all tests are back and we can have a clear picture of what is going on. I am loath to do surgery if it is a benign tumor that doesn't continue to grow and we'd have to monitor every few months with an ultrasound to know that for sure. We also don't know without an MRI about whether there is a pituitary tumor or if something else is causing the cortisol to be high. (this was discussed along with the could she have atypical and something else going on too)

My current plan is to not over think it till we have test results on everything back and I have the report. That will tell us more I think. Then I'll consider whether a $2000. MRI scan should be done too. Man those things are expensive (I think that is the cost, could be more)

Molly is the same as every other day. Playing, bugging me when she wants something, like it's dinner time right now. She hasn't even finished the dry stuff from this morning, but wants the good stuff put on top now. LOL She's had a walk, pranced around the neighborhood, dropped off the mail where needed. You wouldn't know a thing was wrong with her.

And one thing I would have to say no on, is the question for surgery, can you accept losing her if something happens during the surgery. No I couldn't accept that when she is so normal looking and acting.

She sure is a mystery that's for sure.

I love surgery as it has saved Flynn, but that being said if a nodule was not looking nasty and invasive and my dog had no symptoms I would not be doing it either so totally agree with you there. Flynn also has that pesky nodule on his remaining adrenal. There it will stay unless it starts playing up.

So we await formal report, get up to date bloods, LDDS, LFTs etc and then discuss further with IMS about way forward including further imaging?

Agree with Trish :D I kick myself everyday about doing Woody,s surgery with no outward symtoms either. So we will wait patiently for the written report

Woody's was nasty though Tracy, something had to be done and I would have done the same as you so don't kick yourself too hard OK>!

http://endocrinevet.blogspot.com/2014/01/seizures-and-bilateral-adrenal.html

Could this dog have Cushing's disease?
Hyperadrenocorticism (Cushing's disease) is a clinical diagnosis and is based primarily on the finding of compatible signs (e.g., polydipsia, polyphagia hepatomegaly, hair loss, pot-belly). In a dog suspected of suffering from Cushing's syndrome, we confirm the diagnosis by using one or more of the adrenal function tests (e.g, ACTH stimulation or low-dose dexamethasone suppression tests) (5-7).

One should never make a diagnosis of hyperadrenocorticism based on the finding of large adrenal gland size alone. Remember that the stress of any nonadrenal illness commonly leads to an overactive hypothalmic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Therefore, any dog with chronic stress or illness can develop bilateral adrenocortical hyperplasia as a physiological response. I know that some radiologists like to diagnose Cushing's disease based on adrenal gland size, but this just cannot be done using this criteria alone (5,6). Dogs with Cushing's disease certainly tend to have larger adrenal glands, but large adrenal glands alone are not diagnostic for this disease.

I know you already know this- just a reminder how it all may come in to play for Molly.:):):)

I'm gonna interrupt the videos just long enough to make this quick comment before I forget...:D

Sharlene, I've been reading and re-reading your summary and am still just as perplexed as you are. Molly has been a puzzle to me since Day One, and remains so!

I am very proud of you for deciding to chill for the time being, until the UTK and written reports are all available to you. Then, when you have all the info together in one place, it may be easier to start plugging in puzzle pieces.

I will say this in advance, though -- given Molly's lack of overt symptoms, I still totally understand the hesitation about launching into either trilo treatment or a full Lysodren load. If it does turn out that the cortisol needs to be reduced, though, one option that hasn't yet been mentioned is a maintenance Lyso protocol, just as UTK has historically recommended for management of Atypical cases when cortisol is not abnormally elevated. In that way, you could shoot for lowering the cortisol somewhat but not with the same risk of overdosing that would accompany a full load. Especially if the UTK panel comes back with other elevations, maintenance Lyso really might be an option that could provide a degree of control across the board. Just a thought to throw out there!

(And now back to the videos and popcorn! :D :D)

Trish
04-17-2014, 08:03 PM
Oh yeah, I been meaning to google chocovino to see if I can get it here. Also not heard of it before this forum! That blue coat Addy, is actually purple but it is so wet in that video it looks dark blue!! Mum got that for him on one of her trips to Christchurch, it is made out of the same stuff they make horse blankets with. So it is his own mini pony cover, he wore it yesterday for the first time this year to go to Mum and Dad's as it was teeming!

Put Koko's video up please... I have to find that one I did for you of him playing with his puzzle!

Have you got any Woody ones Tracy?

Haven't had dinner yet. Hubby is flying home from Ottawa at the moment. I got sidetracked by a call from Molly's IMS while I was out shopping and I sat in the car yakking with her for about 1/2 an hour.
No worries, Molly's urine came back fully concentrating, (as is normal for her). But a protein of +2, which she has been up and down before, anyway, the IMS wanted to add on the Urine Protein Creatnine Ratio test to see the actual numbers and know if we need to keep an eye on that or if that is her normal.

We talked pheo's, non symptoms, not wanting to surgery if not needed, all of which she understands and agrees with. She said, you never know with a pheo if you go in if they'll be great or have complications, which made me bring up, yes you know it, Flynn man. :) She said, that is awesome, he must have good parent and a good team of surgeons and I was like, oh yes, the best, we are all jealous of his vet, whom his mum can email or call or whatever whenever and he calls back all the time. It's a love fest for us. She said, and I just really wanted to hug her at that moment, she said, Sharlene, you have my email and you can email me any time at all if you have any worries or concerns or just want to discuss molly's day. I love your molly. I was like, awwwwwwww

Anyway, she said not to think about an MRI yet as it's too early to do that and no guarantee for that amount of money that they'll see something.

I didn't think about the maintenance lysodren possibility, good thought Marianne.

You are absolutely right Addy, no symptoms, no treat is the standard and I did discuss that with the IMS who agrees with that. And Addy how sweet of you to check in from work. Why are you at work? Aren't you suppose to be home recuperating? nasty virus, takes time to get over you know. (worrying about Addy's health too)

Lori I brought up that study you posted about the Estradiol too and she said, she has seen that too and it is why Tenn wants to see at least 2 of the hormones elevated before they go down any diagnositc road of atypical cushings.

I think I have covered all the bases of our discussions. I left my poor hubby texting away while he was waiting on the plane to finishing loading, while I went off and chatted on the phone! LOL Looks like we are moving into spring, he has the guy coming to wash off the deck tomorrow, and said he has to turn on our outside water tonight. He plans on making a beer run as we have friends around at some point this weekend too. Although, some of our friends have run off to Florida for the weekend and another took off to New Orleans. Brats!! I am envious of them. LOL But we have others coming in from out of town, so will be in and outs.

I am trying very hard not to go all freaky over molly. Just wait on the tests to come back and go from there.

Oh did i mention how you know I post the whole history when molly has a test done on her thread here? So, I printed that out (the last one and most up to date) and took it in with her file. The IMS loved it and made a copy of it, said wished everyone had something so thorough and concise. I said, we encourage maintaining a running history on the cushings forum. She said not to worry that I couldn't look at Molly's situation as an outsider, because you really can't, you're too close to it. She said she is the same with her dogs. She has to have others do the treatments as she is pure parent.

Okay, enough of the book, again! I will have to get videos of molly, lord, I don't even know how to post a video. and I know I still owe everyone the window pic too.

I'll just pull out the popcorn, white cheddar here! and watch everyone elses for now. :)

hugs and thanks you guys, it means the world!

OMG, Addy, you havn't had bellini's Oh you must have! Peach bellini.
You can throw in some fresh or frozen peaches into the blender and make it all mushy like, sparkling wine is key ingredient though! Must have that.
