I just might cancel Christmas if my kids don't straighten up. Nobody wants to talk about it yet... well, I've got news for them. They either tell me by this weekend, or it's cancelled. :D
How is Miss Molly's new do?

Molly had a beauty appt.?? How did the nail clipping go? Love those stories about Molly exhibiting her attitude when it's manicure time! :D
Hope it went well...I'm sure she is looking beautiful as always! ;)

Molly, the diva, is not impressed with the new hair cut. I don't think she ever is LOL The tail now tickles her bare bum and she jumps and looks back at it. Then it's too short, so she gets cold, but she would rather not have the coat put on her. Of course she prances down the sidewalk once it is, but she pulled my blanket off me last night and curled up in it, so she'd be cozy beside me on the couch. I got another blanket, and let her have that one, she got it over and under her, so I figured that much effort she wanted it more than I did.
The nail clipping as usual was an ordeal. I held her and she made groaning sounds buried her face in my chest, and then would snap at the groomer AFTER the nail was clipped. For goodness sake. She never actually even tried hard enough to reach the groomer, so I know it was all for show and so did the groomer who knows her pretty well. She'd say, miss molly, what do you think you are doing, you know I'm not hurting you, I have never hurt you, now just behave yourself and this will all be over with in a moment. Yea, like that Worked. NOT. Back into the chest her head went till the next toe got clipped. It was funny hearing the groomer explain to molly that her dew claws don't hit the ground and her back claws don't make enough contact because she prances, so she has to get this done. I was laughing something awful and made it hard to hold on to the miss wiggle worm.
All is well, we seem to be forgiven for our transgressions now. LOL It's cold, she'll be wearing those coats for awhile!

Valerie, did you purchase your fleece lined stockings online? I went to Macy's today and I was told they didn't have them. I could really use them this winter. Does the waist band roll down? :D Thanks.

I just love reading about Miss Molly's adventures - it sounds like she has a great groomer.
Those fleece tights sound interesting - for those who have tried them, do you think they would work for skating?

Macy's is out of them online too, but this site has some.

hmm, there are different kinds so think some of them could work for skating.
Yes Molly amuses me a good bit too! LOL

Oh gawd, that sounds like quite the ordeal for her. I have figured the best way to trim Flynns claws is to stand him on the table, lift up a leg kind of backwards like you were filing a horses hoof, still it is a bit traumatic so I ask the vet nurses to do it after he has his BP checks and then he does not have to hate me for doing it to him. I snipped one a little too close when he was little and it bled  he has never forgiven me for that one.
I have you booked in for the sleepover, sounds like I am going to be running quite the bed and breakfast, the more the merrier :D

Sharlene:
It is a good thing that since she was little Tipper wore coats, T shirts, hats, etc. because now since her hair is so sparse she really needs to wear them. At the vets the other day they all remarked that she is the only Jack Russell they have ever seen that will wear clothes. Her belly is shaved most of the time from all these ultra Sounds etc. so she really has no fur underneath at all. I can just picture Molly getting those nails done. Why do all the dogs hate it so? I have to let the vet's do Tipper now as she will snip you a good one, if she even sees you looking at her feet she goes crazy. I dare not touch a pair of scissors either. I was getting a pair out to cut paper and there she was flashing the teeth at me. I have to bribe her with dog food nuggets to sit her on the vanity and let me trim her. I guess from all the attention they get the poor things can't help but get spoiled. Blessings

Trixie's opinion of coats is like Molly's opinion about nail clipping!! :D
This dog hates wearing anything!! I put on a coat or sweater and she stands there frozen like a statue. It's actually hysterical to watch her...head hangs and she doesn't move at all. So unless it's below 20 degrees with wind or there is precipitation she goes without a coat. I've never noticed that she shivers unless she gets wet.
Since she's a small dog I sometimes get the look  from other dog walking people...like I'm a bad mom for having my dog in the cold with no coat. She will just stand there barely move outside if she's wearing one and it only make the time out in the freezing cold longer for both of us!
Oh well...another bit of quirkiness from Trixie...what can you do!? ;)
How about that Molly...hogging the blankets!! :p I love her attitude...she know's who's boss!!! :D

This sounds like many pets we've had--put on the shirt/coat/etc. and they flop on the ground like they're paralyzed! It's hilarious. Elliott will let me put a sweater on her but then she rolls around on the ground trying to tear it off.

Thanks for the link Sharlene -think I might need them as my tootsies were frozen at the rink today :(
So far Henry's view of coats is that they are another toy to chew - especially when he's wearing one! Not sure how he'll cope once he's had a haircut and the temperatures drop

Sharlene:
Tipper will wear any type of clothing, and even doggles in the summer, but will not wear booties. She will act like she is walking on hot coals and walk holding one foot up at a time and alternating them until she falls over. I gave up and now use paw wax on her as her feet get so dry and cracked in the winter. It keeps her feet from drying out. What has Molly been up to? Blessings

It is nice to read that Molly is still up to her way of doing things. :D
I love watching dogs jump in leaf piles.. They get so excited! This is the best time of year.

I don't know what I would have done without you this week Sharlene, you are such a voice of reason in tough times and I love your sense of fun to lighten a moment, you are one of the real treasures of this board and we are all the richer for your presence, even staying up till 1.30am, that is the sign of a true friend and I am glad to count you as one of those xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You've got to get a movie of Molly with the boots and post it . That is too funny.

11-23-2013, 05:17 AM
Tia wasn't a fan of anything on her feet, she didn't even like you touching them she would pull them away like you had offended her. She cut her pad on her right back foot one year so I had to bandage it, she wouldn't walk, when I eventually got her going she would keep kicking out that back leg to try and get the bandage off the whole walk, took forever and we must have looked hilarious :)
Thank you for sharing your stories as you made me remember a happy memory of Tia and I do miss her antics xxx

Get those boots on now it's going to snow!!!
molly muffin
11-23-2013, 10:43 AM
Patti, I peeked outside and saw some small sand size particles of snow flying around!!!!!:eek:
Mel, it's the really funny hilarious things that make us laugh, smile and cry sometimes isn't it. That is so funny about Tia and her bandage. You definitely must have made an interesting pair on your walks.
Molly got a broken off pine needle in her paw one year that got infected (she was pretty young then 2 years old maybe) and she'd hobble around, do the back kick, lick at it, anything to get it off. I'd try not to laugh at some of antics and she hides if she gets in trouble, by hide, I mean goes into the other room to do the same thing she was getting in trouble for in the first room. Hubs and I will both look at her and say "molly, we can still see you, you know" and she'd huff and puff about it for awhile.
Now she is smarter though and if she gets a pine needle stuck in a paw (those pines are all over the place), she stops and hold her paw up till I remove the offending piece. No more bandages for her!! ROFL She does the same thing in the winter, if her foot needs to be cleaned and for a back one, she holds it straight out to be cleaned off. Not sure how she manages that, she isn't particularly graceful about it.
Yep, going to have to try some booties and video tape it. That should be interesting.
Awww Trish, I feel a mush coming on and still on first cup of java too! I wouldn't be anything but awake while you are going through something like that. Even had Hubs staying up and dozing on the couch. When I woke him, his first words was, "Is he okay now?" He might have just wanted to go to bed, but he knew that we had to know Flynn-Man was okay first. :p
I actually took a girl to task the other day on the street. She was pulling her dog, who was limping along on 3 good legs and one bad and she'd just pull and pull and pull, even though the dog was stopping and obviously having problems on the leg. I said, you need to go slow and take your dog home, this is too long of a walk and the leg needs to be checked out and seen to, something is wrong. She said, "oh she always does this" and I said," well, that Really isn't good is it. You are hurting her". Stupid kid. I haven't seen them walking on my street since then, but now I'm worried about her dog. Young dog too, goldendoodle it looked like. My first thought is an ACL tear. Hope they got it checked out.
I'm changing my foyer today. I've had it with looking in closets for scarfs and gloves and molly's coats when trying to go outside in the winter, so went and picked up a table last week that has some drawers in it. Now i have to find a place for the open table that is normally by the door. Hubs is suppose to pick up the new one after his physio appt today.
Then it is time to say adios to the rubber plant that is falling all over the place in the living room. Yep, I'm on a roll. Molly loves to help out when I do stuff like this too. She runs around and gets under foot and I have to stop and say, uh, molly move, you're in the way.
She particularly hates the vacuum snake and barks at it and runs and jumps over it, then barks some more. That's before we turn it on!
Okay, getting busy. Christmas shopping needs to be tackled too before any really horrid snow gets here!!!! Oh! speaking of christmas shopping! LOL where we? hahaha I found a cat puzzle the other day and ordered it for my stepdaughters cats. I think they'll love it. I also found a nice wooden gate that expands to the size of our entryway into the living room, so hopefully that will keep molly in that one room when we have any workmen here and she can't terrorize them.
Gots to run gang!
Hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin

We had a brief few minutes of snow and then it stopped and sun is out. Nothing on the ground. Just cold and windy. I head on the Buffalo news last night though that down towards your area will probably be the largest amounts.
Failure on the table, we had to take it back. The nails screwed in from underneath and went in too far and caused a couple bubbles that would crack, so back to the store it went and they are ordering in another one. Molly attacked styrofoam all over the place though and had a great time. I'm sure she'll be ready to do it all over again real soon.
hang in there. Hopefully the roads will be clear by Monday morning. Just drive careful. I hate driving on bad roads. :(

Ucky, just took Molly for a walk in the blowing snow. She seemed to love it but wasn't interested in going to far from the house. I think that north wind finally did her in, she still had her head stuck up in it though Addy. LOL
I am constantly watching the competition of my husband literally telling molly that "he is the alpha dog in our house" and her ignoring him, determined that she will be alpha, thank you very much. It's quite fun to see and I just say "yea, but remember who walks you and feeds you little miss, I am the Hunter/Gather that you best be respecting for your dinner". LOL She'll just sit and look at me politely. Hubs says it is not fair and I obviously don't realize that he is alpha either. hehehehehe Yes dear.
Those two can really amuse me. LOL

Big hugs to you and Zoe :-) I know you care :) We have been very lucky so far that Molly hasn't shown the normal symptoms of cushings. Long may it continue. I don't know if we are on borrowed time or if there is something else going on. I try to focus on the positive and what is good in her life. I figure that we don't know what the future will hold for us and one day we might be right there in scary territory.
If and when that day comes you can expect a basket case here more than likely.
It does make me feel better to know that if that day comes there will so much knowledge and support for us right here on this forum. She will have the best chance for me not to screw up and to make good decisions because of every one of you.
I am grateful every day for every single one of you. It is almost unbearable of thinking of any pain or heartache for those who have come to mean so much, both human and furry.
I admit that I have a tendacy to bottle up my worries and not show them much on the outside. I am therefore over all better probably at giving support. :-)

I just loved reading about dogs + boots as it reminded me of Hamish - we put a set of boots on him and he did the kicking out of different paws then a very odd walk around the lounge. I did try to video it, but it was kind of hard when we were falling about laughing and he was just looking at us in disgust :D
What I did find worked for him were the Paws boots which are just like unblown up balloons. I bought a pack of 12 thinking they may last a few walks each but then read a suggestion about patching any holes with duct tape so I ended up using 8 over an entire Winter and we were doing around 3-4 miles every day on hard packed snow / ice. I used to rinse them after each walk and only had to patch 2 of them. Unlike the proper boots he didn't even seem to notice them, and just walked quite happily with them on.
It will be interesting to see how Henry reacts as I've only just persuaded him to wear a coat out of doors  although he did love frolicking in the snow this morning and came indoors with a white beard ;)

Hi Sharlene,
Your post made me laugh...:D!! What did Molly have to say when your husband claims to be the alpha of the house!!?? I think I can guess. ;)
Trixie is an alpha girl to the max! Even lifts her leg thank you very much! We had a few snow showers here last night but nothing more. Trixie also points her nose way up in the air when it's cold. You think it's harder for them to smell in the cold? I was thinking it was that, or just trying to get a big whiff of the wind so she can "see" what's going on.
I have the same issue with cold weather gear and the foyer! I have tried every type of set-up...drawers, baskets, all kinds of bins to make it easier for getting on gloves, scarves, etc...nothing seems efficient. It all looks messy and I'm still searching for a glove or something when it's time to get out the door. I guess it's because when we all come in we rush to take it all off! I'm still working on this issue...maybe I'll figure something out before spring! :D:D
Stay warm!

Hi Sharlene:
I suffer from the same thing, but you come out of my garage into the laundry room. So it is the place where all the dog coats are and the boots etc. I have tried everything to keep it neat so I got a coat rack for the wall and it had all the dog coats on that helps a lot. Are you freezing up there yet??? Blessings

Yep, pretty cold today. The wind was blowing pretty good and just cut right through the coat it seemed.
Our front door opens right into the foyer and house, so it's a challenge trying to keep it from looking messy, especially in the winter or rainy months, when there are boots everywhere it seems. We have a large coat closet there, but it seems to always be overflowing. Beats me how we can have so much for just us.
Sometimes Molly will bark at hubs when he starts in on his "who is alpha" routine and sometimes she will play growl at him. They do have some real contest of will though and he always wins when he is serious, but she seems to know when that time is too.
A bit of snow for tonight they said and then probably some tomorrow night too. We'll see. It can be real hit and miss sometimes.

I am in the holiday spirit. :) Just a posting freak. LOL
Actually think I am fighting a sinus infection, so will probably had to bed soon. Didn't have time to get to the doc today, probably not tomorrow either. Busy work day. *sigh* Hopefully I can fight it with lots of fluids to loosen things up till then.
Molly is having a snooze next to me. It's snowy out and a bit icy in spots. She did a bit of a tumble on the ice earlier. Scared the bejeebes out of me and I picked her up and carried her when we can back from our walk, so she wouldn't get on the slippery stuff. We'll see if she is stiff tomorrow or not. It was her weak leg that went out from under her and she went down on her side rump. Poor thing. Think it scared her a bit, she got the shivers. Was fine as soon as we came in though. I've been looking for the Pawz booties to try with her. I'll carry her up the stairs tonight (like I don't always anyway) just so she doesn't strain it any more than it has been tonight.
Well, finish checking a couple thread then off to bed.

Hi, I was just about to put a blanket over you as thought you must have dozed off in your chair!! Bugger about the sinuses, drugs and lots of them I say... pain killers too. Now if that was Miss Milly feeling poorly, you would have her to the vet in a shot, so make time for yourself Sharlene, we can't have you getting worse!
Aww poor Molly, icy already huh, that sucks. Hope she just got a fright and is fine tomorrow. I don't think there are many threads from the last year you haven't already checked!! :D:p:D:p

Poor Molly, slipping on ice is frightening.
Hope that you feel better soon!
I think that the quick temperature drop is making many people sick. My father has a sinus infection and I'm coming down with a cold.
Hi Sharlene. Be careful with the sinus infection. Mine went to my ear and I'm being tortured daily. Never had an ear infection in my life and it isn't fun. Heavy antibiotics and ear drops for now, I'm on day 3 with no relief.
Sorry to hear about Molly slipping. I let Keesh out the other day and he literally slid down all 3 steps in the backyard. I'm a bad momma, didn't realize they were covered in ice. He was ok though.
Hope things are well with you. I've been crazy busy, 6 birthdays in immediate family, anniversary and 5 weddings to get done in December.... think I'll get shopping done Christmas Eve??? :)

Sharlene:
Sorry to hear you are fighting a sinus infection. That is no fun at all! Too bad you have to work too. I know what you mean about Molly falling on an icy patch. With Tipper's back legs being bad, she scare me too when walking. This is what I do with her. I shovel a path from the back door in to the yard and shovel a big patch in the yard for the dogs to go potty. When we go out the back door there is a small concrete walkway that gets iced and you cannot get it off. I keep a real log rug folded by the door inside and when I open the door I throw it on the concrete over the ice so she can get a grip and not fall. When she is done I put it back to use again. That is the only way I can take her out to go when icy. When I walk her I am always looking down at her and if I see ice , I kind of lift her with the harness over it. The harness makes it a lot safer as you can manipulate them before they slip and get hurt. Maybe you could try one on Molly. Tipper has a real soft kind that really supports her. It is a worry when you have dogs with bad legs out in this weather. Hope you feel better and get rid of that sinus trouble. Send the cranberries down! Blessings

Molly is fine today, so think it was just a scare. I carried her up the stairs last night and she was a bit needy during the evening, but none the worse for wear, except now she is a bit leery of the front step. It's a patterned concrete, and gets slick. I think it was actually slicker where hubs shoveled than if the snow had stayed there for a bit. He was being helpful though, so not saying a word.
It was dry this morning, so that is good and she was fine.
Thanks for the well wishes. Mine Always goes to my ear Judi. I've had problems since I was a kid with ear aches and ear infections and sinus's just always get to me too. I've had xrays repeatedly, allergy tests, everything to try and get it figured out. Nothing so far.
I got a chest infection back in 1998, and between that and what I suspect was mold in the bungalow we had then, I was on an inhaler for years. It was after I was on that inhaler that I started with sinus problems. When we moved to this house, I weaned myself off the inhalers and haven't needed them again, but the sinus problems continue and yea, I get sinus infections pretty easily. Maybe once a year at least, usually this time or spring, with the weather changes.
Well, enough about that. :) I'm muddling through, drinking lots of water, so far I haven't had time to go get meds, as I'm working from home, but definitely working as others are off today. (this is my lunch break at 3:30pm) We'll see if I feel worse tomorrow I'll go then, if not, then maybe it'll clear up on it's own.

You are one of the main soldiers in this fight so we can't have you coming down with anything!. Please take care of yourself and Molly. That was terrible about eh mold and the inhalers. That stuff can do bad things to your body. I have seen on the news many people sickened form the black mold that grow in wet spots in you walls etc. and is never detected until a leak or something wet shows. It is in the teens do no walking right now here. Glad her Royal Highness is ok after that tumble. Blessings

Hi all,
Well the rest did me good, because I woke up feeling better than I have all week. I'm guessing it never got to full infection status, or I would have needed antibiotics. Instead I drank a lake worth of water, and it seems to have gotten cleared out. Also I slept on my other side last night. It's very weird and part of what they try to figure out, is that if I turn my head to my left side, then all my sinus's drain to the left and nose blocks up on that side, turn it and lay on my right and it all moves to that direction. Crazy eh, but they can't find out Why it does that as all the pathways look normal. Oh well, I just have to be different. :)
The Diva is doing here thing. The night it happened I checked to make sure there wasn't any joint issues and then gave it a good massage. She was running around like normal this morning and the sidewalks are cleared so she had a good walk this morning. I even let her out without her coat on, and of course like Barbara was busted immediately by a neighbor saying, where is molly's coat!! ROFL!
Will be off to do some shopping today now that I feel better and then to a bday party tonight. Gads I have to get a donation ready for pick up by Diabetes Association Monday too. Can't forget that! I love that they call and then you just put anything you want donated out and they pick it up. Several associations do that here and it works out well for everyone concerned. They earn money and I get things cleared out. Sometimes I do truck loads over to Good Will too, especially during the holidays. Then I have a food donation to get together for food bank. I'll do that through my local grocery, who will be doing the deliveries to the food bank. Several other programs I want to get things ready for too, including our local humane society. I wish that Molly would be better about letting me bring home fosters but as she has gotten older she has become very territorial and I think at this point, she would be more traumatizing to them. So, I have to do what I can in other ways now. Anyway, as you can tell, that is where my mind is focused today. :)
Cold here today too Patti. We just had the garage door people out to replace springs that broke on Thursday. (couldn't get the door up and down YIKES, my car was inside, of course! LOL)
Love and Hugs to all!

Hi Everyone:
It has warmed up and Tipper got to walk finally. She was like a bucking bronco out the door she was so happy. There are some places along the side of the roads that have no ice so I made sure she walked there and Toby followed her. I have to go Wednesday to the hospital for my scan about this stone so I am going to the grocery to get some things needed for the new diet Tipper will be on. I am hopeful that this will help her body fight this disease. She is taking a rest now after that walk, and has that new ball of Toby's tucked under her paw, just so she can annoy him. I think I am going to skip tonites dose of trilostane and give her the 27mg altogether in the morning. It's worth a try, and she has had 30 before this so I know 27 will be ok. I am cooking her some veggies now so I can bulk up her food a bit without the calories. Maybe both of these things will change the tide who knows? Blessings

Pleased to hear your sinuses have not got worse Sharlene, water, such a miracle drug eh!! Cheap too :D:D
You sound like you have a full on day, shopping... with these bills lately I am thankful my family does a secret santa so I only have to buy one pressie although I will be getting something nice for Mum and Dad as they do so much for Flynny and me! Thanking my lucky stars it is payday this Thursday!
That's a good idea packing everything up for charities, I like that idea and must do something similar! Your a good person Sharlene so I am wishing you a most successful shopping expedition and hope you don't end up in a queue as long as Kathy's the other day :eek: xx
Glad you're feeling better. So... out shopping you say. Whatcha buy me for Christmas? Same thing as last year only bigger?? - LOL :D:D:D

Rest helps everything Sharlene.
I was awake until 7:18 this morning, I just couldn't get comfortable. After the furlets were taken care of, I went back to bed for a little while.
'Tis the season for colds etc.
the nasal water spray works wonders for me if I use it like a netti pot and then spritz 5 times a day:):):):) Of course then people look at you funny - walking around spritzing your nose all day:rolleyes::rolleyes: But it does work:D:D:D:D

Hi Sharlene,
Thank you for your Thanksgiving wishes!! Glad you are feeling better...and so happy Molly didn't get hurt on the ice. I had a sinus/ear thing going on in October. Ugh..I was miserable. Ended up going away on it's own too after a lot of saline spritzing! It's good for the immune system to forgo the antibiotics but I got to the point after a few days that I really wanted some...the Dr. said not needed though!
How about all the doggie coat police people out there?!! So many people are into whether a dog has a coat on or not?
I guess I do that with people's kids, but I never actually say anything.
On Thanksgiving morning we saw so many families walking over to the parade, it was cold..felt like 15 degrees and some kids didn't even have hats on, which was crazy..but guess what?? Trixie was wearing her sweater! She kept walking funny, doing some bumps and jumps trying to buck it off. When that didn't work she was side stepping and doing other weirdo moves...kept my husband and I laughing the whole walk!
Since then it hasn't been all that cold, lucky for Trixie...now that she had the sweater on for one day she's holding back by the front door in case some scary clothes are nearby! ;) So funny!!

Oh that is funny about the door. Molly has been doing the same thing. Won't go all the way to the door and looking to see if I have her coat out or not. Once she doesn't see it, she goes right on up, but boy she's sure on coat patrol. LOL
Wow, 15 and everyone out walking to the parade. yikes and a brrrrrr.
Yea, I hate sinus things. I do have some saline and need to start spritzing, so this doesn't come back. No time to be sick with the holidays here.

That is too funny about the coats. Tipper is so used to her coats she waits for them, and she lifts her front leg up and back to get them in the sleeves like a child would do. When we get some serious snow I will take he picture in the snowsuit, she is so cute in it. Blessings

That will be great to see the snowsuit pictures. :)
Molly does the leg lift for her harness. Not for her coat though. And if she is really in a spat about it, she'll just lay down and roll over on her back so you can't get it on her. She'll tuck her head around different ways trying to be all cute, like that is going to save her. She knows it won't, but she tries anyway. Little diva that she is.
Tonight as I was trying to catch up on the forum she was barking at me to come play with her, so I too a break and went and played ball. She won't play very long, not like she use to and she doesn't want to go get it any longer, but she loves if you throw it in the air and she'll bounce it back to you off her nose. She's pretty good with that nose. :)

Awwww she sounds like a little dolphin or seal :D:D
Flynn is not keen on clothes either. It really is not cold enough here to wear them but I do have a raincoat he wears if it is pouring. We have one very expensive looking all weather coat that is sheepskin lined, oilskin covering, it even has pockets! I swear he could trek Antarctica in it and be toasty warm. He could pack his snacks, a blankie and a pocketknife in his pockets and he would be all set!!! A friend gave it to him when her dog passed over, so I just do not have the heart to tell her it is a tad over the top  I put it on him if we visit her when its raining xxxx

Sharlene:
It is funny you should say that about Molly. Tipper has gotten so moody lately that if you get her harness to take her out and she is not ready or wanting to go she lays flat like a pancake on the floor holding her front legs down tight to the carpet so I cannot slip the harness underneath. These babies are just too smart for their own good. Blessings

Omg Patti! The visual of Tipper flattening herself and holding herself down mad me laugh! Daisy will wear coats that wrap around and secure with Velcro. I've had some adorable sweaters for her but the little turd climbs out through the neck part (even one that was a turtleneck). She does it so fast that I have only seen her hind end escaping by the time I notice.

Okay I'm starting to feel the pressure of the holidays. We need to get so much done this weekend since we're out of town next weekend but with two christmas parties today, we're trying to divide and conquer. I send hubs one way to do one thing and I go the other. :)
Not sure if it is working or not.
Okay how is this for funny. Molly was invited to a dinner party by some friends and they said she could bring us too. I cracked up laughing when I got the invite. LOL
Since she will be staying at the vets next weekend, I'll be having labs done on her. Cross fingers, everything is still, well, if not great at least reasonable. I still have to get an ultrasound scheduled for her, but I don't know, procrastination. She's been acting like she is fine, and I hate to think that anything could be off in her. (denial much?) But things come on so fast as flynn showed us, that I know I need to get it done. We're getting into bad weather and not fun to be driving over to oakville in icky weather.
Well, got to run, we're out the door again to the next party. (this was my in between time)

Have a good time shopping, wonderful parties with Molly, kudos to the friends for inviting her.:):):):)
Hopefully Molly's labs and US will be just fine:)
Hope you are enjoying your parties Sharlene.... you too Molly !!
I know what you mean about procrastinating. Keesh is doing ok, and I guess I don't bother with further testing cause I just don't want to know. At this point I don't know what I can do for him anymore, so I give him what he wants in his kibble, love him to pieces and let him know his Mommy just adores him. He's warm, comfortable and stubborn... seems like nothing changes

So, the big question is, will Miss Molly take you to the party??
and does she need a party frock ;)
In other news, we're just back from a trip to the States and whilst there was no sign of the fleece lined tights or trouser socks in Macys I did find some in Sears and also in TJ Maxx..... Thank you so much for telling me about them - hoping to have cosy toes for my ice dance test (and I need all the help I can get!!).

Good luck on your ice dance test. I know you'll be awesome! and warm. :)
hmmm, molly says she will take us, so kind of her you know, perhaps a new frock is in order. Something frilly perhaps. ;)
My friends lost their golden retriever to cancer a couple years ago. She was one of mollys best buds. yes she has a few of those. LOL Very sad and they were devastated. They adore molly (as you can probably tell). :)
Thanks guys, I'm hoping to have her chem test on Friday and results next monday or tuesday.

Molly always told me I was suppose to chauffer her around, you mean I can get her to drive??!!!:eek: Not sure how safe that would be, she is pretty easily distracted. I can just see a cat or dog on the side of the street, we'd never make it! LOL :D
Actually we'll walk, they aren't that far away from us. :)
hmm, I should get Molly to wrap, but again, the first time the ribbon comes out that would be the end of it. She's much better at unwrapping. :)
*sigh* now that I have done the shopping, the wrapping and mailing needs to get done and again, here I am procrastinating. I'll end up having ship FedEx to get things where they need to be by christmas the way I'm going this year.
Plus we're out of here next weekend, so trying to get everything done, plus work, and organizing all the other employees vacation time and making sure we're covered, is all driving me up the wall this year. I always end up covering while others take time off at Christmas it seems. *sigh*
Well, going to finish checking threads on the forum and then upstairs to wrap and get one bo at least in the mail, I hope, tomorrow.
It's so cold and wind just cuts right through you here right now, and even though I'm inside I can't seem to feel warm. Molly wanted to stay outside in the cold and wind this afternoon.
I think it's that llhaso in her that Addy was talking about. I'm sure a shih tzu would be inside nice and warm, not turning her head into the wind and wanting to go "that way".
hugs all,

Well done on getting the Christmas shopping done. All my cards and presents were mailed a few weeks ago - the benefits of being an expat!!
Just washed the two pairs of fleece lined tights I got at the weekend - I decided to try two different brands and have discovered that one pair are at least 50% longer than the others - will be interesting to see how they fit  (and problem is I can't work out which pair is which!)

Just thought I'd upload a picture of molly actually smiling for the camera. That Never happens and who even knew she could or would!
Strange while I was in the kitchen getting her dinner ready, I could have sworn that out of the corner of my eye I saw her shaking, her entire body head to tail. When I looked straight at her she wasn't doing it. I've seen her do that before when she is on the window seat in the early morning waiting to go outside, so maybe it is an excitement thing. She never does it though when I am looking directly at her. Of course.

Hi gang. I'm back! Flights delayed due to the weather, so didn't get in till 10:30pm and then had to get the drive and walk cleared. Finally got to bed around midnight and then up early to go get molly. More snow on ground to clear before leaving, then vehicles that didn't want to start, arggghhh Got the little miss and she is doing good.
I got a call Saturday morning that she had an ear infection, so rang the vet to make sure they didn't use any micin drugs on her, but they hadn't, they use the same thing she had before. When I picked her up this morning she was hanging out in the groomers room, with a bunch of toys, having a fun time. So, I guess she did a-okay.
We hoped the results would be in this afternoon, but no call so far. I asked them to faxed to me and the vet to call and discuss. I'm not overly worried about how long it is taking as i'm sure they had some lab people not able to get in to work, so things might be backed up a bit.
Snow, snow and more snow. *sigh*
The winery was ...eh..okay, not as good as I'd hoped, but then a friend told us about another place and so we went over there and they had a Santa and jsut blocks of homes done up, amazingly with tons of lights. One place even had a Santa and elf ferris wheel, with candy canes that led up to it, if you can imagine. :)
I'm trying to catch up on the forum and between that and work, I am a bit swamped. Hopefully by mid week i'll be back on track. :)

Well sounds like Molly was having a fine old time, you are very lucky to have them look after her when he take a wee trip! Stink about her ear problem, wonder what made that flare. Fingers crossed for good results tomorrow, will be looking out to see what they are!
Man, the last thing I would feel like doing after delayed flights would be shovelling snow, what a sweetie your daughter was making a start on it that's very kind of her :D
Shame about your winery not quite measuring up, I am organising a work party this Friday for about 30 ppl at a winery called Clearview, I have been before and it is lovely! It has been a bit of a business getting it all sorted but think we have it done!! I just have to decide if I want smaller round tables or a big long one out amongst the vines!! Tough decisions :D

Sharlene:
That Santa on the Ferris wheel sounds like fun to me. Sorry the winery was a bust. I wonder how Molly got an ear infection? OD they take them out to go potty outside? It would be my guess if they do that some staff member left her rub her ear in the snow and water got inside. Tipper is know for doing this. I use Panalog it is safe and gets rid of it. It is an older drug, but works well. I asked the vet one day why dogs want to rub their ears in the snow as soon as they see it. He said " because they can." So I bet money that is what happened. Hope it gets cleared up soon. It is so frigid and snowed again last nite here. We are to get more too and Friday it is to be 40, now figure that out! Blessings

Barbara, don't count out a white christmas yet, we're suppose to get more snow after the warm up later this week.
I didn't get the lab results emailed to me, seems some issue with the scanner or something. I'll get them on Saturday when Molly goes back for a retest, however, the vet did call me to discuss and the gist of it is that those two numbers we keep watching, are inching up.
ALKP - 1479
ALT - 167
I'll have to compare to the others but the vet said, that even on the Heppato Support that she keeps going up and that is a bit of a concern.
Her urine specific gravity is good, at 1.032 She still is not showing cushing symptoms.
I asked if anything else was abnormal and she said no. So, now we are trying to find a time during all this crappy weather to schedule the next ultrasound and consult with the IMS. :(
We specifically will be looking at a comparison of the last ultrasound for any more enlargement of liver, adrenal glands and lymph nodes. All were enlarged previously. Also, the concern that an adrenal mass or liver mass exists that just hasn't shown up on the ultrasound as of yet. (gawd I hope not)
We'll also check the gallbladder since there was some sludge previously but not enough to cause a blockage and her bili's are all fine on the blood work, so probably Not that, but you never know for sure till you see it.
hanging in there.
hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin

Hi Sharlene
It will be good to see the last few ALP to look at trends. But inching is better than racing up! But I totally agree with you doing ultrasound and IMS review. What is she having retested?
Great she is concentrating her urine well.
Will keep a look out for the full results. Such a worry aren't they, although they keep on with having fun while we get (more) grey hairs analysing all the numbers!! Hope you get some peace of mind when all the results come through, plus the scan xxxx
goldengirl88
12-18-2013, 08:40 AM
Hi Sharlene:
Sorry to hear Molly's numbers are inching up. It is always a numbers game with us Cush moms. We are all about the numbers and looking for that magic bullet to make them normal again. I don't think I have ever read or heard about a disease that affects so may parts of the body as Cushings. I guess some cancers would, but Cushings is right up there on the most terrible list for me. Hope her numbers come down. When Tipper's were a little high the Hepato Support seemed to not be bringing them down so I switched to the S Adenosyl and that seemed to bring them down faster. Could things like Hepato Support and other things we give on a daily basis loose their efficacy after using them for a while? Just don't know the answer to that one. Blessings

Oh darn those liver numbers!!! Ok...well like Trish says, inching is better than the racing. You know I'm in the same boat with the high liver counts and ugh, I hate thinking about it. :(
We'll retest Trixie after the holidays, I just can't face it right now.
Molly seems just fine though, right?
The good news - no other abnormal numbers and no Cushings symptoms..so a big yay for that!!
I'm hoping all will be okay and the answer to the numbers creeping up will be nothing serious.
The park was beautiful this morning after yesterday's snow...Trixie was just as happy as could be prancing around the snowy fields and chasing snowballs that I was throwing for her. The temps forecast here for Sunday 65 degrees! No thanks... in the 60's for Christmas week?!! I do hope you're right about a white Christmas being possible. Make sure you send us some cold temps and snow on Christmas Eve okay!!? ;)

Hey Sharlene,
Molly is always going to be an outlier! You should be used to that by now! ;) I hope you are able to figure out her liver numbers, but no other abnormalities or Cushings symptoms is fantastic! Fingers and paws crossed that all checks out okay on the ultrasound. Xxxxx

Sharlene:
We are to have weather in the 40's today and for Friday so at least Tipper can walk before those other systems hit us. I am going to get all my stuff done today if I can get Tipper's sitter. I hate to leave her as I feel she is not doing well lately and it scares me. Hope you have all your stuff done and it is winding down a bit. Hope Molly is feeling better from that infection. No fun for the Royal Highness to be sick at Christmas!! Blessings

Sharlene, could you box up some of that snow and send it here to arrive on Wednesday AM? We had a dusting on Wednesday but it was gone before I got back from my quick trip to VA and in VA it was just ice, where I stayed. Black ice, actually and I almost went ass over teacup walking to my car in the AM.
Sounds like Molly is doing really well. Will Santa be bringing her something noisy this year?

Hey Susan, Oh you know Molly has prezzies under that tree. A new bright pink harness and a brown fur coat (she will wear it darn it!!), some treats, found some good herring, no grain, omega 3 and 6, glucosomine and other good stuff treats, and a few of her regular ones. (she does not get these all in one outing LOL) and yes, a noisy toy to keep her happy. :)
She's doing pretty good. We were just doing (does everyone remember Hammer Time?) Well we do Walkie Time, at the front door, while she bounces on the door and I bounce across the foyer floor doing the Hamer Time Dance.
yea, we might be a tad crazy. LOL
You can have the snow!!!! Can I box the whole yard worth up? hmm, maybe leave just a big for Christmas eve and Christmas day but that's it! Then outta here!
hugs,

You sure know you are a Cush mom when you are putting Glucosamine treats under the tree with the Omegas!! Hope little Miss Diva loves her new coat when she tries it on! Has she been trying to get into the presents? How is that ear coming along? Stay safe and get your flannel tights on for the next two systems coming!

Molly's ears were checked by the vet this morning. No outward sign of any infection left, but still a tad pink, so we'll continue for 3 more days to get rid of anything micorscopic that might be left in there. Over all good and her lymph node in her neck appears to have gone down. (it was a bit enlarged in August)
So over all good. Discussed getting that next ultrasound, which will be the new year based on my schedule and weather issues.
I'll post a new comparison test history. Her ALP and ALT are the highest they have ever been, Albumin just a tad out of range, and it has fluctuated over the last two. So main thought for myself right now and suspicion, is that she might have more sludge in her gallbladder than she did in June. Just something I've noticed on the forum here, is that when there is more sludge, the ALP Always has gone up. She had some sludge previously, not enough to cause a blockage, but that is one of the things we'll look at on the ultrasound and also her liver and lymph nodes are the next thing to check out thoroughly. We Expect that her adrenals will remain bilaterly enlarged to some point, as will the liver, because we think she Is producing cortisol over normal amounts, but the reason is unknown and pituitary cushings still remains a possibility.
So there you have it gang. Molly acts normal, a bit older perhaps, but still basically happy, and her numbers, are going up, which is indicative of something, we just have to keep trying to figure out what that is.
hugs all

ALT 132 (6 - 118) - June 2013

Hmm, she didn’t give me the urinalysis other than the microscopy part, which is fine, but she had said,
Urine specific gravity 1.032 protiens all fine – December 2013
So, her albumin is back up a bit, and her ALT and ALP are the highest they have ever been even with the heppato support. Thyroid, glucose, cholesterol, bili’s all within normal ranges.
Due to weather and work schedule over the holidays I won’t be able to get an ultrasound till the new year.
Discussion with vet said, that perhaps with molly getting older, and her not showing any symptoms of anything wrong, these values might end up being her new normal, unless the ultrasound shows a problem with the things we want to check, liver/lymph nodes/adrenal glands/gall bladder. Kidneys are working fine, and nothing else Really shows up in the blood work or urine to suggest what might be causing her liver values to increase.

Hi Renee, I always re-post the history so I don't have to scrolling through the thread and my papers each time I want to refresh my memory. I agree, I think we all agree, molly has been baffling us all for years now. We started being told in 2011 that it was cushings, and some things say yes, some things say no. Which is why we monitor blood work so frequently, so see if anything changes enough to point us in a definite direction. Sometimes that is all you can do. IF she had typical symptoms, along with the ACTH and ultrasound, we'd be on medication. If we only did the LDDS, she wouldn't. Since we've done all of them, and no symptoms still (typical anyhow) she isn't, but we continue to monitor as it could change one way or another at any point. It's a doozy eh.
Hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin

Hi Sharlene
Just having a look through the results, so good to have it all in one page. I do wish we could insert tables in here. I saw someone do it once but I have never figured it out!!
Pleased her little ear is nearly healed up!
Flynny's albumin has been on the high side at times, a comment from IMS was that not much puts it up other than dehydration so I wonder if she was fasted for the tests it could cause it?
Her ALP has been up since the beginning of these tests, like May 2010. That is 2 1/2 years now!! So I would have to think if it was anything real nasty like tumours etc then it would have declared itself and done something a little more dramatic than the slow rise we have seen. ALT relatively stable. But I get what your saying about wanting to know what is going on and agree ultrasound is the way to go. Maybe the mild liver enlargement is causing it, did she have many doses of steroids when younger for any reason?

Oh good lord, no one could go through and read all of this. It's mostly giggles anyway, as we don't have too many issues with Molly.
Molly symptoms according to the vet is pot belly and thinning hair. That's it. She doesn't over drink, she is prone to crystals and doesn't drink enough in fact. I have to give her SO food or she Really doesn't drink enough.
No ravenous appetite either, she picks and chooses through her food and grazes through it during the day. Her weight has been pretty constant, and the only issues she generally has is ear infections started this year and she is prone to some stress colitis when she is boarded, seems to pick up some bacterial intestinal bugs pretty easily, nothing chronic though.
So, that is why we haven't done anything with her medically, other than liver support. Her liver numbers started going higher a number of years ago (not where they are this month though, sheezz) about the same time she got the first bout of crystals and intestinal bug.
She has a couple lipomas we are watching that we've also tested to verify that is what they are, and she has a hip joint that the groove isn't formed deeply enough in from birth, you'd never notice unless she tweaks it, but arthritis will be an issue for her in that leg most likely.
A bit of sludge in the gallbladder, a couple small stones, neither big or enough to cause blockage on last years ultrasound.
That's about it.
So mostly Molly's thread is about how funny she is, unless something comes up. She is one of our forum diva's for sure. :)
hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin

No, Molly has never had steroids since I've had her at 11 months old. Doubt if she did before, based on what I know of that situation.
Fasting, she might have been, they did the testing while we boarded last time.
I'm not overly worried about the Albumin unless it were to shoot up.
I think the only one that freaked me and I know that it can go up, is the ALP that she had dropped down into the 918 in June from 1229 Dec 2012, and then a jump of over 500 points up in 6 months was a bit much.
A mildly elevated level of AP is found in normal dogs and cats when they are immature.
When AP is elevated in mature pets, most causes are associated with a liver problem that prevents bile flow (such as cholestasis in cats ) or bile duct obstruction (gallstones) – particularly when GGT enzyme is elevated equally or greater.
Other causes are Cushing’s disease, Corticosteroid medications, Hepatic Lipidosis (fatty liver disease) in cats, Colangiohepatitis /Triad Disease in cats, FIP in cats, Hyperthyroidism in cats, hypothyroidism in dogs, Less commonly: diabetes, kidney failure-related hyperparathyroidism, liver and bone cancers, liver-toxic dietary toxins (like aflatoxins), widespread granulomas, abscesses, pancreatitis, upper intestinal inflammation, anti-seizure medications, autoimmune diseases, gallbladder mucocele, occasionally with mammary tumors, healing fractures and an occasional liver reaction to anti-arthritic NSAID-medication. Mild persistent elevations are more of a worry in cats than in dogs.
Alkaline phosphatase levels sometimes go up in dogs with failing hearts and in genetically-based, copper storage diseases of Dobermans, West Highland White and Bedlington terriers, as well in pregnant cats. Some of those can be ruled right out, so liver, gall bladder, gastrointestinal, heart would be I think likely culprit possibilities unless cushings Is in play. Other possibility is the vet saying this could be if nothing shows on ultrasound, molly normal. I don't know if I really believe molly normal though, just in general, there is a reason, question is whether or not that reason is something to be concerned about or not.
I'm not freaking over it though. :) I'll behave. hahahaha I will get her in as soon as weather and work allow, prob jan or feb for the ultrasound. They are crazy booked up and people on holidays at the clinic right now, so nothing worked out scheduling for immediate.
Thanks for looking over Trish. It's so valuable to have opinions from others too. We look at so many of these test results on the forum and yet when it comes to our own, it's like doubting what you know. LOL Does that sound a bit weird? I think it does.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend and ready freddy for the holidays. You guys know what I am doing right....... yep....Procrastination 101~!
I should be wrapping gifts and I have found a million excuses including a nap, not to do so. (I'm blaming the nap on molly, she looked way comfy in the blanket on the couch)

I know exactly what you mean, when its your own baby it's different, the ability to rationalise can fly right out the window which is why I value all your the groups opinions so highly!
I wonder about those lipomas and fatty liver, Flynn has tons and while we know the cause of his high ALP/ALT I wonder if they also enter into the mix.
Oh gawd, Mum just rang and wants me to take the electric wine chiller thingy over... cannot find it anywhere  think it might have been a present she gave me... one of those ones that I have never really used and put somewhere  going to enter the garage and that is never fun there is so much junk in there!!!

Holy mackeral! Had a major ice storm in Toronto yesterday/last night. Woke up to ice on everything!!! I think over 250,000 in Toronto out of power, trees and power lines down everywhere from the weight of the ice.
We still have power obviously and hope we keep it. We'll probably know more if we get the higher winds this evening and still keep power. It doesn't look good if you loose it though, can take days to get it back they are saying. We'll see, I'm hopeful we keep our as our lines are underground (thank you mississauga for the upgrade!) It's the feeder lines though that might get us if they aren't buried.
Molly is not having an easy time of it with all the ice either. I took her to the backyard as there was no way she'd manage the front, I barely could. Her feet sunk through the ice on top of the snow and she was terrified of all the creaking sounds, so sat down, didn't want to move and started shaking. It took much coaxing to get her to do her business, then I carried her back inside. She slept till 10:30am this morning too! Which is not like her, but we were all awake late last night, since youngest daughter and her significant other was out and about delivering cookies to his parents and then decided to grab a coffee and go over to his condo downtown and do some painting. In an ICE STORM! gads girl. I was thinking I might strangle her if she made it home. (they have a place just a few blocks from us). Well, she made it home, I decided not to strangle her after all, but will keep it as an option if she ever does anything like that again! I got 50 extra grey hairs I'm sure.
Anyway, we were all up till around 2am on pins and needles for them to get home safe. Kids. Gonna be the death of me yet.
Anyway, cross fingers we keep power and molly can get in and out a bit at least. I have a crockpot of beef stroganoff going, plan on doing some laundry, just in case, have some wood stacked by the fireplace if the power goes and batteries for the big flashlights. I'm as prepared as can be. Guess we should have bought that generator for the fridge after all.

Hi Sharlene-we've been treating an ear infection on Bailey also. It was beet red a week or so ago. Very nasty looking. We started treating it with medicine left over from an earlier infection and it seems to have taken care of it. I always worry that the baths are the culprits. (my baths of her.)
Your weather sounds really nasty. I'll take some of that stroganoff though!:D

Did you see the photo on TV of the hawk frozen in the ice storm? I guess he had a broken wing and was just covered in ice. They rescued the poor thing. I think he will be okay.
We had that same ice storm, it was scary. We went through 4 bags of ice melter stuff. Thank goodness I have the sling harness for Zoe or she would have never pooed.

Oh No I didn't see the bird with the broken wing. I hope it will survive and recover.
I don't even know how much de-icer we have gone through already and have to put more down as it warmed up just enough to cause drips on the driveway, and now that is refreezing and Molly still has to go out tonight for her walkies, not sure how that is going to work out. Arggghhh I have a harness that I lift her with, but it's still tricky and the driveway is sloped downwards, so always a challenge to get up and down in ice. :(
ho ho ho indeed!! LOL
Our power flickered once so far, and came back on, so that wasn't too bad. Mississauga says that they will have power restored by midnight to everyone, but Toronto is saying it could take days for them. Glad we're in Mississauga. So far our roads have been salted and the sidewalk salted and plowed.
I can just imagine how bad that ice will be if we get snow on top of it. Ack!!!!! I know the temperatures are suppose to start dropping tonight and keep dropping through Wednesday at least. I don't see any above freezing temps for awhile in the forecast.
Well, back to wrapping prezzies.

You had an ice storm and we had a heat wave!! 71 degrees today here in Manhattan! Crazy. The news just showed the ice skaters in the park skating at the rink in t-shirts. Dislike! It was impossible to know what to wear outside today...it's not like I'm about to put on shorts in December.
Anyway..I appreciate the info you posted re liver numbers. It scares me a bit...I keep hearing the vets voice saying "well Cushings is under control, so I would have expected the liver numbers to go down".
I'm also curious about lipomas and fatty liver...like Trish mentioned. We will have another blood test done in January..I'll be holding my breath for that one.

We made it through the night with power, so that is a good sign.
My office is on backup generator though and my friends house has no power either. I hope we get it back today. I'm thinking work even from home today might be a bit of an issue, we'll see.
My biggest problem through all this has been molly and trying to find safe areas for her to go outside and do her business. She isn't a one pee female dog, she is an alpha and has to mark. This just isn't possible. Even the snow is ice covered and dangerous for her little legs to try and walk on. It doesn't look like it is going to warm up at all either, so we'll have to figure something out.
Barbara, that is so weird to be in the 70's at this time of the year in NYC!! Astounding!

I told hubby I was going to allow Zoe to just pee on her rugs but we managed to shovel and ice melt and that sling harness was a God send. I think I ordered it from Dr. Forsters and Smith last year. It is short handled so I just loop her leash through it. I'll find the link. May be a good thing to have on hand for emergencies.

I hope you do not lose power. If so you will have to go to your office!! I know what you mean about the ice. We have so much standing water in the yard that Tipper takes and hour to pee. She keeps smelling the ground or should I say water and cannot get a scent to go. When I take the dogs out it is almost up to Toby's knees. This is horrible. now tonite the teens so I guess it will all freeze and I will be having a terrible time because of Tipper's leg. I hate this weather, up and down. I hope we get a few inches of snow so Tipper can get some traction. Be safe and warm with Molly and Hubs and have a wonderful holiday season. Pretty sure if I haven't already then I'm close to bursting. :) Wow, amazing amount of food. Not sure how we manage to have that much and eat all day long, year after year. :)
Yes, molly modeled her new coat. Pic up. She seemed pretty pleased with it. She is still trying to figure out how she is suppose to help me get her into the new harness.
She just had a whopper of a time barking all over the place while I played Kaibo's videos. LOL Now she is back to laying on her rug under the mas tree. Almost same exact position as last years photo. She is a girl who likes consistency.
We had snow all day here, big fat flakes, it looks exactly like you'd think Christmas should look like out the window. I think it is suppose to snow tomorrow too.
Tomorrow is going to be my lazy day. I love Christmas, but there isn't a heck of a lot relaxing about it. Either you are cooking or cleaning or opening or something it seems from the time you wake up. Tomorrow, though, boxing day, peace, blessed peace. hahahaha (I hope) Have to say, potential son in law, is a fantastic cook, as is youngest daughter. Home made tiramasu, cookies, yummy stuff. Cornish hens and ham, portugese potatoes, brussels and hussels, brown sugar glazed baby carrots. All good stuff and most of that I just had to help out here and there with.
The only thing that I saw got passed to Molly today was some ham, so if that was it, then we are probably going to be okay, but she like the others seemed to love it in the morning, and then get tired by mid way through the day. Enough that she would take herself off to her window seat and go to sleep, or lay upside down in the recliner and not even bother going to the kitchen to try to scrounge more food.
I hope everyone had a wonderful day. Peace and happiness to all.

I have just been checking out the Christmas pics of Kaibo and Molly, so cute!! Honestly these holidays are exhausting :D:D Your food sounds delish and I am actually starting to get a bit peckish now.
Molly's coat looks sturdy Sharlene!! Hope you got some nice pressies too! x

Sharlene! Finally joining your thread. :p Molly is just too cute. I'm glad you had a good Christmas. I agree with you though, the day after Christmas is so nice to just relax, clean a little, and be lazy. Christmas can be a lot of work!

Sharlene:
Sounds as if you had a great Christmas, and the food was sounding yummy too. Hope to see a new pic of Molly modeling her new coat. We had those huge snowflakes too and they were beautiful sort of like you were sitting inside a snow globe. We are to have 40's for the weekend so Tipper will get her long awaited walk unless the leg starts up again. Blessings

Renee and Vicki, welcome to molly's home (her thread, but home sounds so ... comfy) :)
Patti, I posted a pic of Molly in her coat. Inside, but it was her first model of it, so we had to get a pic. :)
We're going to warm up for the weekend, then get cold and start getting more snow on New Years day. Sounds like it's winter time! :) don't think I'm excited about that, I like to look at a good winter, not live in it. :) (drive to the mountains for a day of snow, come home) Some things are kind of nice about the west coast where you can do that. :)
Bloody mary, but it's taken me all day to catch up on the threads! LOL I'm still working on it, and if I have missed anyone (gazillions I'm sure) apologizes :( I love you all!

Welcome Tracy! :) It's a warm giggle place, until my not too frequent spaz attacks over something molly did, didn't do or should do. :)
hahahahaha now that's a treat for sure Trish! Come to think of it that is real close to my plan for the evening, curling up with molly, a book and something. Waiting on hubs to figure out the bellini. :) (did find a store that might have a mix, but have also found a good idea too, that I'm going to try out, which is blend up some peeled white peaches and put into baggies in the freezer, pull out and add prosecco when ready to drink.) ta da
Okay, off to find my couch and dog and book

Aww shucks, well nothing wrong with a giggle now and then and a sense of humor has gotten me through more rough patches than I like to remember. :) :)
Oh yes Tracy, I've noticed when you have the llhaso/shihtzu cross that they often look alike. It can be a bit strange too, because you get a bit more height and body bulk than the shihtzu and the face has a more prominent nose, (good cause not as many nasal problems, but just entirely cute, as both the llhaso and shihtzu are. Although I do think that llhaso's have a more aggressive protective personality while shihtzu's tend to just be sweet. Molly got the llhaso personality for sure. Little muffin can be quite the terror at times.
okay, on to catching up on the forum this morning, while laundry and closet cleaning and package wrapping areas need to be straightened up. oh my, just writing that makes me think there is going to be a nap in the works for today, before tonights wine and cheese party.

Now this is not a frivolous request, but I need a late (I think) 1940's outfit, what the heck do you do to find something like that?? Jive was 1950's wasn't it? I'm confused because it says 1940's but then says jive in the new year? What the heck is one suppose to make of that. Once New Years is past we move into the January winter parties, so one is 1940's jive into the new year and the other is Glamour your way into the new year. I can manage the glamour, tons of dresses with sparkly things all long and what not in the closet, but this 1940's jive thing has me thrown for a loop!
Molly is again going to be spending a couple weekends at the vets coming up since all of these are out of town shindigs. Fly and party I call them. LOL I haven't even seen the invitation for the one in Toronto yet! Scared to find out at this point.

Was the 1940s not all pencil skirts, and hair up in rollers type thing with tights being drawn on down the back of the leg with a eye pencil. I wasn,t born in the 40s but is it not all about the war time :D
molly muffin
12-28-2013, 01:23 PM
See that is what I thought too Tracy. I think though that there is a big difference between pre war 40's and post war 40's from the fashion pages I've looked at. I don't see Jive in there at all (big band yes), so I'm thinking the organizers have gotten some of their decades a bit off there. LOL

Hey Sharlene, I think the party people are right as far as linking jive with the 40s -- think swing, jitterbug and the Lindy and you'll be on the mark. Wikipedia says jive dancing actually originated in the 30s with Cab Calloway, it expanded to Europe with U.S. servicemen during the war, and did roll over into the 50s. But the 40s were definitely smack in the jive era. So maybe if you Google some of the dances, you'll come up some images from the era that will help you. Here's the Wikipedia link: :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jive_(dance)
molly muffin
12-28-2013, 04:11 PM
Oh thanks Marianne! I was thinking jive came after big band sound. Big band, I was thinking was more the 30's, and Glenn Miller, but it says that Glenn Miller introduced his own jive sound in 38.
So, now to style of clothing for this. I looked at fashion pages on 40's style and it seems to be all over the place sometimes. Now going to go google jive dance 40's and see if that gives me some clues.
Renee, well, it has it's exciting Moments for sure. These are actually all work related events in different cities. We do Winter Parties, after the hussel and bussel of Christmas and New Years are past. Last year was a Huge combined party for all our office across Canada in one city, and that was awesome, colors blue and silver. The year before was a masquerade party in one of the cities, that was very cool. People even rent costumes, etc, and really get into it. It makes though for a very busy January and some exhausted Mondays. hahaha I'll take it though! :)
okay, on to the google.
Thanks gang

You will have to book in and have your hair done for the party Sharlene, I am also imagining those big curls done in rollers.... I remember my Mum saying they used to draw those lines done the back of their legs because they could not afford to buy silk stockings! Sounds great fun! Good company to fly you all to a party that would cost an absolute fortune, how many go to the parties? All we got at work was a BBQ breakfast and that was it
molly muffin
12-28-2013, 05:18 PM
I thought about booking in for the hair like we did for the 80's rock party (hubs went with blue hair, I did glam rock, hair and makeup), but don't see how I'd have time to do that and then drop molly to board and get to the airport on time. Ack!
The combined party last year, the company flew everyone in with a guest, that was a huge company anniversary party though, so definitely Not the norm. (they use to do that every year but got too big and too many people to do that now). Now every city has their own winter party. 3 people will be going to all the parties this year from our office, of which I'm one. Normally I go to ours and one out of town, but friends asked that I try to make both, so I said okay.
Okay, found this one on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHANNkKBSNU

Oh yea, he is going. We work for the same company, different departments though. I think he knows everyone in every office and I'm one of the lucky gals, married to a dancing machine. The guy can go all night. I'm the one pulling my shoes off and having peeps deliver me drinks on the dance floor to cool off. LOL
We usually fly in, go to the party till however long it last, we all stay in whatever hotel the party is in and then the room parties start up after the regular party. I've been known to get on the plane home with no sleep at all and be a zombie once we do get home. Once I had actually changed clothes and started to climb in bed at around 4am, when a call came to head up to anther room, so jumped out of bed, pulled on some leggings and a sweater and back out we went. The man is a party animal a couple times a year. LOL
I'm sure it will be a blast. Molly hates us in January because she spends so much time boarded. LOL

I solved the 1940's outfit problem!!!! How you ask? Well, I called in a professional. LOL When it doubt, go to those in the know is my motto, so yesterday the hubster and I went over to a costume shop, that provides period costume and set rentals and spoke with them about what we need, the era, colors of choice, to wig or not wig (not a clue yet), and they'll put together a selection for us and call when ready. That solves that issue. We might look at some additions for our glamour costumes for the following weekend.
Yea, I looked at our calendar and we're pretty much busy every weekend for the month of January and if we get to sneak in a week down south in mid February, then I think I'll chill around the end of Feb. That is the general plan now. Toronto party is this weekend. No theme, just a dinner out with the gang at a nice restaurant.
Molly is not happy with the weather either. She can't find a place to poop, held it too long today and then had diarrhea. I'm sure she'll be fine now that her belly feels better, but we had a poopy bum mid morning.
Tonight is my relax evening. Hubs is out with his friends playing racquetball and I have nothing on my calendar except a cup of tea and a good book, just started reading Dan Simmons "Abominable" So hope to be appropriately engrossed in an thrilled (it does say thriller) by said book. :)
Kathy, not spoiled a bit our little diva. :)

Happy New Year to you too Sharlene!!
I posted on my thread about Trixie's problem with the new sweater...it's an epic fail. Haha..on top of not wanting to wear anything she has now been groomed...so, not too much fur on her. She wasn't shivering this morning, it was moderately cold-22 degrees. Snow and much colder in the forecast here so she will have to wear something over the next few days!
How is Molly doing with all this cold?
Your super cold temps are headed this way with some blizzard conditions for us on Friday. That is always hard dog walking weather..and I suppose it's not "walking" at all..it's just "quick-do what you need to do asap so we can get back inside!"
The 40's party sounds super fun...should be some great dancing to the big band music!

Well Sharlene from the dog forum in Canada is a big hit with my family :D:D
I did the spaghetti, bought the fresh stuff, mixed in olive oil, cherry tomatoes, basil and the cheese. Then had the meats, prosciutto, little salami's, smoked salmon on a side plate with salad, olives etc. Ohhh also made fresh croutons and home made bruschetta for starter. Then brandy snaps, meringues and choc dipped strawberries and cherries. The loved it, I told them how you came up with the menu :D:D There were eight of us so one very happy family and they said to tell you thank you and you improved my cooking!! Cheeky buggers!
Plus I bought fresh peaches and made it into the puree for the bellinis, I froze it so it was kinda semi freddo. The first lot they said was not strong enough so the next batch had more of the peach schnapps in it.:eek:
We had a lovely evening, my brother's cat Timmy (the one with lymphoma on chemo at 14yo) "gave" my brother Greg a toy for Christmas... this toy is a helicopter thingy, that flies , hovers and has a camera attached and takes photos or videos through a programme that runs through his phone that connects to the hand controls :confused::eek: It looks like a blardy UFO with flashing lights, it can go 200m straight up into the air and can zoom along at 50km/hr. Anyway I am telling you this because we were flying it about in the school tonight, Flynn was running around having a fine old time and Greg was hovering it over him chasing him along so I am really hoping I can share the video with you when Greg downloads it all and sorts it out!! That Timmy is a very generous cat!
Anyway, thanks for your suggestions Sharlene.... I've already had requests they want the same next time they come to dinner!! :D xxx

I just threw out ideas, Trish made it her own. :)
It sounded so good that I had to make something similar for us tonight. :)
Tomorrow night is another dinner out, salmon for me. :) I had a chicken pesto that was divine for New Years eve. (the key is whole roasted pine nuts, yummy) :)
Alas, though the story here is the bitter cold and the wind chills. Molly and me both freezing out there, even with her coat on. Tonight we went out earlier as it is suppose to get even colder over night, snow blowing. Molly did her thing pretty quickly then wanted to run back to the house. I had a down coat on and a scarf over my face trying to just keep the cheeks from freezing (the coat has a down hood on it too) Glad I picked that one up at the outlets this fall. wish it came down to my ankles though as the wind was cutting right through the pants.
Earlier I picked molly up and carried her home and she was shivering, so I pulled her in close to keep her warmer. It's really rough out there right now for animals and I hope not to hear of any being left outside in this.

It breaks my heart for dogs that live outdoors. It's a problem in Alaska, and other places, for sure. But, we have this amazing dog rescue up here that does outreach for dogs that live outdoors. They provide insulated dog houses, straw, food, interaction, and education to the owners. Such an inspiration!

We're surviving the cold weather. Not a fan though, really not, will be looking into vacations south for sure. :)
Currently Molly is going out into the back yard to do her business, there is some wind break back there at least.
I'm sick, not fun, so if I don't answer anything too promptly, you know why. Yea, I made it to the dinner on Friday night and having much left the house since, except for a run to the pharmacy. (Yes have my flu shot)
Must be better by weekend!!!! So, I'm working from home for the first part of this week at least. We'll see how it is by thursday.
Poor molly, I think she started to get another ear infection. I saw her shaking her head and on Friday night when we got home from the dinner out, sure enough she had thrown up like 3 times. Poor thing. She hasn't done it since, but if her ear was bothering her and she got an upset tummy, that would do it.
Anyway, molly and myself are going to work at feeling better this week.

I am betting that Molly still has some microscopic bacteria in her ear from the last ear infection that didn't get cleared up completely. I'm doing a week regime dose both ears and then will have the vet check them this weekend, when she is suppose to be staying over while we are away.

Hi Kathy, saw your update on how you are feeling. Sounds like you are doing better than most in your situation would be but still pretty sick. That coughing is not good, so hopefully it will end soon.
Yea, my husband is currently in the "i can't believe I caught this from you stage" in other words not happy and he doesn't do sick real elegantly. LOL
I sigh a great deal and he moans a great deal. ROFL!!! We just get through it but having us both down at once is not the best scenario.

Other than ridiculous sneezing fits and some residual coughing I seem to be doing better. However, hubs said he is dying. I don't think he is getting much better. It isn't looking good for the 1940's todo. Molly scheming?! hmm, maybe if she got wind of it :)

Oh my goodness Sharlene...we have the same thing going on here! Trixie's been head shaking and scratching her left ear. Yesterday it was much worse than today. I was afraid she was going to scramble her brains with all the head shaking that was going on. She was groomed a week and a half ago and she always comes home with her ears bothering her after that. I think when they pluck that fur out of there they irritate her skin. I have to talk to them about that next time.
I was able to get a good look with a flashlight and my magnifiers last night...there was scab there that she must have scratched open, but nothing else noticeable. I'm hoping that's what was causing the itchiness. I put a dab of polysporin on it and so far today I'm not seeing all the head shaking and scratching. Hope we're over whatever it was.
She's bored though and definitely has cabin fever.
She seems undeterred by the extreme cold. The outerwear continues to be a problem as she will not put nose to the ground while wearing the coat/sweater. So we go out with it on, and then I take it off. At least when I'm holding it people don't think I'm totally insane for having a naked dog out in below zero weather!
Trixie tried to pull me toward the park and needless to say, that wasn't happening today. She doesn't even shiver outside...maybe she's got some Husky in her bloodlines!! :D
Now I have a sore throat...caught from my husband who does not know how to manage a cold when he gets one. I see the cough drops I got him right here in the living room, which means he didn't bring them to work! What good are they if you don't use them???
I hope Molly's ear settles down....it's always something isn't it??
Feel better and stay warm! I'm not looking forward to our next walk though today the wind has subsided, thank goodness!!

I'm glad to hear that you're starting to feel better. :) Your husband has that guy disease. It is well documented. Many men actually believe they are dying when they catch a cold. If they had to have babies, there would only be one of them, because they would be dead after the first one.:D LOL Now, I am in trouble again!!!!
Poor Molly. Ears are such pains in the butt. :o I have been using an ear wash that Glynda suggested for Rosie, to keep her ears clear. She had mucked up ears after mites and infection, tied up with allergies when she arrived. They had to put her under to clean them out properly. Her ears have been clear since I started using the wash. Rosie fights the minute she see the bottle, so I have to saturate a cotton ball just to get a few drops into her ears. I use it once a week.So far so good. If you want the name of the wash, let me know. I am at work, so I don't have it right now, but can get it for you. xxxxx

Oh no, poor Trixie. I'm currently on a clean it and medicate it so hoping it will be better soon.
It's not looking good at all for this weekend. Hubs hasn't left the house since Tuesday and is coughing something awful. I think today might be his worse day yet. He cancelled his out of town meetings tomorrow.
I've talked him into see how we feel on Friday and I've contacted the costume shop, but honestly, it doesn't look good.
On a bright note we are suppose to be above freezing by Friday and at 8C on Sat, so that is good at least.

Poor hubby. It sounds like he's really sick. :o Molly will be heartbroken if you don't go to the party. :D Ha! She'll be doing the happy dance! It did not break Rosie's heart when I couldn't go off and do all the Christmas festivities. She thought she hit the jackpot because she had me all to herself. She didn't care how sick I was because I was home with her 24/7. I hope you both are better soon. Xxxxx

ROFL! It's a mysterious and deadly illness I'm sure. ;)
Yes he is pretty sick. I don't think he's sneezed once, just coughing and moaning (muscles hurt). Me, I'm sneezing my fool head off, gads!
When he gets a fever, he feels it in his joints. Too much damage over the years :( So, I'm just doing what I can for him.
I'm bringing out the big guns. Buckley's cough medicine. Kill or cure. The commercial says it all "taste awful but it works" :D:D

Hey, Sharlene, I come from a long line of Okies who breaks out the Vicks Vapo Rub when we have a cold with hacking coughs. When I was little my grandmother would slather it on the bottoms of my feet, put socks on me and tuck me in. She would smear it on my chest and throat too. It worked quite well. I still do it when I get sick.
If you have some in the house, give it a try on hubby when he goes to bed.
molly muffin
01-08-2014, 11:20 PM
I got some! Will slather him in it.
Oh I did try putting it on the bottom of his feet last time he was sick. I don't remember if I didn't put socks on him, or if I did give him socks and then he took them off to take a shower, but he hit the tile floor in the bathroom and about busted his *&^%%. Needless to say that he won't let me do that again!
Thanks for reminding me of the vicks!!

Sharlene:
I love Vicks it is my go to product. I use it on my head for migraine headaches. You just have to remember to clean it all off before going out in the cold as it will draw the cold to the spot it is on and make you really sick. Hope you are all doing better, hope Molly got rid if the earache. Blessings

After spending the morning being evaluated at the urgent care center, we will definitely have to miss the party. On well, maybe next year :) Both of us are still running fevers off an on. Hubs hasn't had a good nights sleep since I guess last Sunday, he's not in good shape. We were both given bronchial inhalers as this virus acts like an asthmatic attack, constricting airways. You can get air in, but not out.
I haven't had that problem so much so I'm not sure I'll use it if I don't have to.
I'm not getting great sleep because he keeps me awake a lot. Like last night, the vicks didn't help him much as he was taking a hot shower at 3am. I had it on me though and I could feel it sinking into my skin during the night, felt pretty good too. :)
Molly I am sure thought we were not nice smelling at all. She'd groan and mumble over on her bed. (she also doesn't appreciate if the tv is on or too loud when she is trying to sleep and will also let you know)
I have been dosing on the couch, but hubs isn't able to fall asleep, every time he starts to he starts coughing. :( I feel rather bad for him at this point.

Isn't it funny how our little critters let us know when they aren't happy with something or are being disturbed. Rosie will stand and stare at me until I turn off the big light in the bedroom, then go get in her bed. When I start coughing crazily in the night, due to Whooping cough, she will cry and moan as if to say, enough already! A girl needs her beauty sleep. LOL
I don't think you're missing out on much missing this party. I get the impression that you bring a party wherever you are. ;) xxxxx

Morning Sharlene, how are you all doing? Hubby sounds the worst the poor man. Is Molly coming right, bet she is getting lots of snuggle time with you all home. So bummed about the party, but you would not have much fun feeling yuck and it sounds like you have plenty more to look forward to and hopefully a wee trip to warmer weather!
My sister is 60 this year and my Mum 80 in December. Mum has always wanted to go on a cruise around NZ then across to Australia I am looking at taking her with my sister probably in the Spring to celebrate their big birthdays! I wish dogs could go too :)
molly muffin
01-10-2014, 08:46 PM
Hey Trish! Oh wouldn't that be fun, a cruise for the girls! :) I'd totally be into doing that. Our family has talked about it a couple times, my sister, my niece, and my nephews and their families. We just don't seem to be very organized. Well, the ones that would need to do the organization are the ones with the most arrangements to make. I figure that's not us. We're like, tell us when and where to be and we'll be there. LOL
Hubs is a very sick guy, and he feels so bad about the party. There is some behind the story stuff, of a conversation 2 years ago with the organizer of doing something from 40's etc, and then tada this is the year they are doing, and I had a message from the organizer whom I had the conversation with, saying, we're doing it!! 1940's! and now I can't go, and he feels Awful, so he said, why don't you go ahead and go, I'm like, yea, I don't think so and he said yes, go, I'll fly you up first class even and you can be this other guys date, the CEO because his wife seldom shows up for these shindigs. (this is a common joke, that I'm both of their dates when she doesn't show, he's a good friend)
That was Very sweet of him, considering how horribly sick he is and I just said, no, most of the fun in going is going with you, so I'll stay home and we'll see how next weekend looks and if you feel good, then we'll go "glamour" montreal. :) I emailed the costume shop and said, you know I really appreciated all she did and would totally use her for another event and then got hold of this years organizer and cancelled, because they need to cancel our suite and stuff too right. Not fair, and I wouldn't want the company to get stuck with the expense. (not that I'm sure someone wouldn't use it!) :)
Hubs is more important to me than a party and his temperature is stuff mostly one, sometimes it goes down, then it goes back up. I tried to make him eat fresh cut pineapple for it's natural inflammatory benefits. He did Not go for that, said it was sour. Think his taste buds are off, because it was fine to me.
Ibprophen hasn't worked, so spoke with pharmacy and going to try to rotate between acetaminophen and ibprophen and if it goes up any more, I'll take him to emergency.
Molly, can't decide if she is in heaven or if we are annoying to her. She seems to like us being around but can only take so much of the attention, then she's like, people people, get a grip already. I'm not sick, you are! LOL She kills me. Think her ears might be better. They never did turn red, so caught it early.
oh wow, wrote a book. Again! LOL

For the last couple of hours been researching this cruise idea, I have never done one before so it is exciting. Dad does not want to go, but we are going to make him :D:eek::D and my brother is interested too and it is his 50th next January so that will cover all the big birthdays my family has this year!

They didn't give him any antibiotics, just the bronchial thing that he can do every 4 hours as needed and another bronchial that is twice a day. Both are for more ease of breathing. They said the chest xrays showed clear. I think he might need some, so we'll see if this fever doesn't break tomorrow. I mean that would be 4 full days of running a fever off and on. I can usually get it down for about 4 hours, then it pops up again, which is what urgent care said it would do for about 4 days, up and down. arggghhh I just worry though as I don't want an infection showing up anywhere and I already know one person with a lung infection from this thing.
I am trying different combinations, writing what I give him at what time, for what reason and reaction. To see if I can hit on the right thing.
I might have it, we'll see what the next temp reading is, but he might be napping now, which would be very good for him, he hasn't slept in ages.
Trish
01-10-2014, 10:50 PM
Good idea, leave him asleep the poor man. It does sound nasty to be feverish for that long though. Even if it is a virus a secondary infection would not help at all. Is he coughing anything up that could be cultured?
molly muffin
01-11-2014, 01:07 AM
Dry cough, both of us. The bronchial inhaler they gave us seems to work to clear the air passages.
I just checked temp 30 min ago, it's lower than it was earlier. He is currently snoring, something I haven't heard him do in days, so that is good. I agree, that was the reason we went to urgent care, which is like an emergency room, but not in the hospital, they do day surgeries, etc there and have everything needed for diagnostics, and they said nothing in chest. Didn't take any samples for culturing. This is the urgent care associated with local hospital.
I'm hoping that sleep will help him more than anything and I'll stay with him to make sure he gets it.
Thanks gang

I wanted to see the picts too....but it's best you not share your germs with anyone else.....nor pick up any new ones. Sounds like hubby's fever may have broken. That would be good. I had the flu one year and had 103-104 for 4 days running. I was miserable. They wouldn't let me even take a shower until the fever broke. YUK!!

Fever did not break, hubs was not doing well, wife was pulling out hair, dog was grumbling at everything.
We went to the ER, another chest xray, verdict - pneumonia. Eye infection too, no idea where that came from as he hasn't left the house since Tuesday and I don't have any eye problems, but there you have it, it came literally out of no where. Now on antibiotics. Oh and the chest xray on Thursday, not clear, borderline. If they'd started antibiotics then, we would have been on the mend by this time, as it is, it will be awhile before he is back to where he should be.
Oh Susan, New Years Eve was just spent with good friends, an Italian restaurant, and then some trivia around the dining table, laughing and having fun. :) It works for us, every year. :) We can be low key! :)
Drat, even hubs was ticked he missed getting to see the CEO in his dads WWII uniform for the 1940s party, so hope someone took pics!

Those docs are so worried about giving antibiotics for viruses, that they hold off too long, causing bigger problems. I did not go to my doctor when I was so ill, because he's one of those that holds off on antibiotics. I went to urgent care instead and that is where they discovered that I had whooping cough and antibiotics were started right away. I was told that if I had waited another two or three days before starting antibiotics, I would've had pneumonia also.
I am glad that your hubby finally got the meds he needs, but he should've got them last Thursday when he went the first time. Hid pneumonia could and should have been avoided, poor guy. Now it's going to take it much longer to recover. That sucks! I am so sorry Sharlene.:(
I do hope you are feeling better and don't need antibiotics too. What a shame. Xxxxxx

01-11-2014, 10:59 PM
I'm okay, still coughing and congested in my chest, but no fever.
Yea, it was urgent care that didn't give him the meds, and emergency at the hospital who did today.
I called it cookie cutter diagnostics, because there were Loads of people in both places with the same sort of symptoms, but not exact ya know. I think they just didn't pay attention to the xray enough, the doctor today took one look and said, Thursdays wasn't clear, it was borderline and to go do another then he'd talk to us. That was when we came back and he said definitely pneumonia and start the antibiotics.
Family seems to be freaking out now. I tend not to be overly dramatic and alarmist, but I might be the minority around here.

He slept for about 2 1/2 hours last night, so that is progress. :) I got about maybe 3 hours sleep straight.
With all the coughing and up and down all night, molly isn't getting good sleep either. Not something that you'd think would make a difference so much for a dog, but molly doesn't like her sleep disturbed and gets super grumpy about it. Poor thing.
I should add that I've switch molly over to a evo herring formula for her glucosomine treats and she seems to be doing very well on them. I've noticed an increase in energy, playfulness and jumping height.
One might think this is something that our normal playful diva molly needs to be concerned with, but actually it is.
Some days she wouldn't want to play, just sleep, you could tell that she felt ick, not really herself. Sure sometimes she was herself and we love that, but some weeks she would be off. She seems to be more on than off since I started these.
Since Evo is a high protein, low carb, grain free diet (food and treats), I can't feed it exclusively, as any time there is even a suspicion of cushings, one needs to be aware that there is also a potential for pancreatic issues to arise, so a careful balance there. I think that the SO though, doesn't give enough protein.
I'm adding a bit of blue kibble in with her SO in the evening. It's hard sometimes, trying to find the best balance of type of food, nutrition and what is needed because of health issues too.
Anyway, something to try and work on and see how it goes.
hugs,

Sharlene,
Glad you two had at least a few hours of uninterrupted sleep. Hopefully things will start to turn around. I just read online (as my husband has had a cough) that the average for a cough to hang on is 18 days. Of course my husband only had a mild cold/cough, nothing so bad like you are dealing with, but the cough took so long to go away.
Does your husband still have a fever? When you are an adult having a fever is really debilitating. The last time I had one (a few years ago) and it was not even that high..maybe 101?? I was so miserable, I could not believe how really awful I felt. Kids handle it better..it feels much worse for an adult!
Hoping you all get well soon, goodness Molly needs her beauty sleep!! haha just kidding! ;)

My nephews wife who is an RN, sent a message this morning saying that they are seeing the cough last sometimes a whole month!
We're hanging in there :) He's very sick, I'm keeping an eye on his breathing and if need be will head to emergency again. His fever broke this morning and he didn't have one all day till 6pm this evening. Then it went up and I gave him some Tylenol and it's down again, so hopefully will stay down as the antibiotics have time to work and that was only just begun so I'm being hopeful. The cough is the worst and not being able to lay down at all to sleep. (kathy can relate to that one)
Hope your hubby's cough goes away soon. Even the colds feel worse this year.
