Hi everyone,
Well, I lost one of my Cushing's dogs in Feb and now my other one (Rosie, aged14) is suffering from an awful on-going upset tummy. She has been on antibiotics which help a lot, and a low residue diet, but she is losing weight. Does anyone know of a good (preferably) home-made low residue food I can try? She won't eat dry food at all, but tolerates the wet tinned low-res food. Chicken definitely upsets her, so that's out too. I've tried rice but again she's not keen. Any ideas gratefully accepted! Thanks so much....

Hi ! Vomiting and diarrhea are both signs that your dog is overdosing on lysodren. Please CEASE giving the drug right away. Your dog could DIE from this. Please also take your dog to the vet right away and have an acth test to check cortisol. His/Her life could be at risk depending on how severe.

Please tell us how much lysodren your dog has been taking and his/her weight. Thanks so much. I will be thinking of you. Kim

Welcome
It can be a number of things ,it could be the medication he is on,it could be pancreatis, intestional. You would need to check when did this start? That may help you find the cause. the weight loss could be from the medication.
I have dealt with weight loss with my doxy,Apollo also, muscle wasting, pancreatis ,intestional issues. Slipper elm a herb can help with the upset tummy. Look it up on the Internet on how to prepare, think bowl about a cup of water had a teaspoon(not sure), simmer with a spoon until gets a little thicker, wait until cools, then add a little to food.
But please check on line on how to use for dogs. Can get at amazon.com. But first determine why the stomach issues and the weight loss.
Hugs Sonja and Apollo

Hi, thanks for the responses - Kim, it's not a Lysodren overdose, we have ruled that out, I've had extensive tests done over the last few weeks and all her Cushings readings are excellent. Initially a stool sample showed campholobacter (?) and she has been on maxilon to help with the vomiting, and an antibiotic to kill the campo. Her tummy is much much better now, but she's been on a low-res diet and is still losing weight so I want to find something to feed her that is low res but high calorie so I can build her strength a little more.
Any ideas?

Carbs can help with weight gain. My suggestions would be pasta, oats, potatoes, and or barley.

Hope this helps.

Love and hugs,
